The Milky Way Galaxy contains anywhere between 200 and 400 billion stars. A tiny fraction of those can be viewed right here, in the Hogwarts Observatory. This circular room was locked for a long time, but Professor Antares opened it again when he became a staff member at Hogwarts and now after his leave Professor Roslund maintains it - complete with a huge telescope that was a new addition then. As it is difficult to operate, students need permission from the professor before they are allowed to use it, but a number of smaller telescopes that anyone and everyone is free to use are stowed away in cupboards lining the rounded walls along with empty potion vials and other astronomy items and supplies.
Large star charts are pinned up on the walls as well. Not all of these belong to the school. Those that do not have a great number of notes and calculations added to them - although Professor Roslund is a teacher now, he is still able to supply colleagues and his mentor with data and measurements. You are, of course, free to study his charts, but make very sure not to remove or misplace anything.
Stargazing, naturally, is an activity best pursued at night, and as such, the Observatory usually remains unlocked. Of course, there are superseding school rules that limit the hour at which students can still be out of bed. If you desire to study the wonders of the cosmos later than that, you need a note from Professor Roslund. Should a student be found without such a note (or, alternatively a creative excuse), he or she can expect... trouble.
In the same way that a library is more than just a building where books are stored, the Observatory is as much a place of scientific inquiry as it is a shrine to the grandeur and beauty of the Universe. Professor Roslund, when he doesn't use the telescope for work, often comes here to think, or for some peace and quiet. Please respect him and any other teacher or student spending his or her time here in this way by not running around or shouting.
"Good...I would hate to think a dance instructor was the profession I was meant to go into," Gideon teased back with a laugh, doing his best to ignore the given nickname. He made a face at her pokes and playfully grabbed for her poking hands with no success. "Dont make me capture and tickle you missy," he remarked with a smirk as he looked at her before down to both of their feet since they were now next to each other.
"Okay...so ye take yer right leg and move it from being straight to about a 45-degree angle so yer heel is on the floor and your toes are facing upward off the floor like so," Gideon instructed once more slowly and as clear as he could, demonstrating said movement. "The back to straight standing. After yer feet are together once more, ye switch to yer left leg, moving it to an angle like kicking, with yer heel to the ground and yer toes up before returning it like so," he added moving as he spoke each word.
"Yer do that set of steps twice for a total of four movements. Two with each foot," he finished, hoping he was clear enough to understand this time.
She put her hands up to signal concession to Gideon when he threatened to tickle her. That was the last thing she wanted presently. Selina was very ticklish in her sides and it seemed that with each person who figured it out, whether it be Violet, Kurumi and now Gideon, they all seemed to wield Selina's weak sides against her like a weapon. So she would behave and be a good student. After all the quicker they finished the quicker the two could just talk. She liked that part better than this homework part. Alas, homework was one of those mandatory obligations that came along with schooling.
Her eyes flickered to his feet and she counted each of the counts as he danced to the best of his ability. When it was her turn she rolled over all of the steps he had taught her in her mind. Once it processed internally the external feet started to coordinate with her head. She slowly started to go through each step until she finished number four. When it was pretty much done, she looked up at Gideon and asked, "Is this right?"

She pulled out a diary her grandmother had given her years ago. Everytime she pulled out a piece of paper, one more would just... appear. It was a forever lasting journal.
She pulled out her quill and an ink pot, writing;
Quote:
Today is the first day of the New Moon. I have noticed it affecting my magic and my senses in a good way. Firstly, I feel as though I have been able to sense things, for instance when I got out of bed this morning I just had this image flash through my mind that I was going to step on a slug. I jumped out of bed and fell flat on my bottom! I had jumped onto a snail and my feet flew out from under me. It really hurt, but it was funny.
I didn't sleep much, I woke up at 6am! Six am! I usually wake up at 8.30 regretfully, wishing I could just stay in bed. I linked that back to a pamphlet my mum sent me which said during the Full Moon people tend to sleep less, and wake earlier.
After I read that the Full Moon also may help with 'Intuition' and 'Divination', so I poured myself a cup of tea and got my Tea Reading text out and saw a Fir Tree, which I read to mean 'Artistic succes'. It was a small tree, but today when I went out to take photos for my Potions homework, I really found my artistic side. I got to chose the right moments to take the photo, and although I haven't developed them yet, I think they will be good.
Anyway, I feel like writing this is just coming to my head and if I don't stop writing I never will... things just keep popping into my head. Oh well. I'm hungry and want to go for an adventure walk!!
Zhenya Burton
She put the journal away safely, to put more entries in once it was time.
Zhenya slowly made her way up to the Observatory. She was amazed at how beautiful it was. She looked into the telescope, but couldn't identify any of the stars or planets...
She sat down and pulled out her journal;
Quote:
Today is the First day of the First Quarter Waxing.
I've noticed that I'm more hungry. I crave food at the moment, which I think might have something to do with the moon phase. Last entry was on the New Moon, and I noticed then, looking back, that my appetite was increasing.
Last night I dreamed that the Garlic cloves I planted a few days ago would be sprouting when I went to check them. I woke up thinking to myself 'How is that possible?', but when I went there today to check on them and water them - they were sprouting! I started reading up about the first Quarter and it said "Dreams are more realistic, and might be prophetic" and - they were realistic and prophetic! WOW!
Anyway, I feel more energised, so I'm going to go on a quick late night walk... hope I don't get caught!
Zhenya Burton
She closed her journal and looked up at the starts for a few more moments before getting up and leaving.

Gideon knew better then to push when Selina gave in to his thread of tickling and backed off her poking, raising her hands in defeat to show her surrender. At least he had managed to find one thing he could use to keep her in line at times though he was really teasing seeing as he'd only tickle just enough to get her distracted enough to go back to what they were doing ...no further.
When he was done demonstratining, he had turned to Selina, his turn to watch her feet carefully.
Gideon counted over each step in his head to make sure everything was there, nodding when it was. "Aye that's right," he confirmed. "Now the last and perhaps easiest step is walking....well random crazy walking," he remarked having no other way to describe it. It was literally just moving your feet around and in the end finishing as if one had turned in the process. The fourth year did his best to mimic the action, however by what he remembered in the class, there really was no rhyme or reason to the last movement.
"So all together its four steps to the right....four steps to the left...right kick...left kick...right kick...left kick....crazy walk," he instructed as he did each in sequence once more to show the whole dance together. Gideon may have stumbled a bit at one point and another, kinda wishing they had the music to make it easier to get it to flow, but he survived in the end.
"And there you have the Cupid Shuffle," he said with a mini-bow as he turned back around, having completed his end.

Crazy walking? Selina could do that. In fact she was pretty sure could do that part of this dance well. After all her and Kurumi had been flailing like idiots the previous night in the Dorms. At the thought of the chat in the dormitory Selina's face colored a tad bit. Her and Kurumi were being extremely girly and she had even said somethings about her instructor presently. It was an extremely girl talk type of night.
She snapped back to his instructions and nodded at him as was checking on her progress. It was easy enough. So she followed through with his last section of the dance before she ran through the entire dance with him. She took four steps to the right, four steps to the left, kicked four times and then walked it by herself, whatever that meant. When he was done he gave a small bow and she lifted her chin in the air like a snobby aristocrat, "Brava! Brava! 'Twas brilliant my good sir."
Then she dropped the facade and said, "That was good. Only one more to go now." Which was good because Selina was starting to get hungry, but she would not tell him that. He would probably either laugh at her for not eating or be extremely concerned that she skipped dinner. Either option was not something she wanted to hear right now so she pushed she shoulders back, tossled her hair and prepared to teach, "Right! Okay the cha cha slide. Now this one is easy, but it has a lot of steps. So the first thing you have to do is walk to the left to the beat of the music." She drew her wand and waved it in the air to conjure up some music out of the old gramaphone in the corner of the tower, "Then you have to walk backwards." She did so, "There is no set number of steps, like the Cupid Shuffle, you just walk to the left or to the back as many times as you can to the beat before the music changes."
She turned to look at him and said, "Am I making any sense?"

Gideon couldn't help but laugh as Selina remarked at his bow and finish, giving the air of sophistication like she had been watching an actual dance and applauding. "Thank ye....thank ye," he said before nodding simply as she moved on. The boy quieting as it was now his turn to pay attention to her for the other dance they were to learn.
Cha Cha Slide...
Right, he remembered mention of that dance and a few of their classmates had been dancing it during class. Listening to Selina give the instructions, he knew why it was a little complicated as it didn't have a set goal and you needed music that fit it well. Music they now had thanks to her wand work. "Aye...ye are," he asssured her as he tried it out for himself. Stepping first to the left a bunch of times before backing up another few times. It was harder to judge by the beats of the music but he tried his best to put his musical experience to work to see if it helped.
"Dida that look right?" Gideon questioned looking back at Selina for her opinion.

Selina looked at him and said, "Perfect. Better then me, Mr. Musical over there." Then she scrunched her nose to try to remember the next round of steps. She did not need to think long because then the music started to speak to her- 1 hop this time, right foot let’s stomp, Left foot let’s stomp, Cha Cha real smooth. She snapped her fingers. That was it.
She turned to look at him and said, "Okay now you stomp with hop once." She demonstrated and hopped, "Then after that you stomp your right foot, then your left." She did as she said and looked at him to follow in suit. "Right then you cha cha." How was she supposed to explain the cha-cha. She herself could barely do it. It was sort of a Latin dance move. In her own body she could do it, but explaining it to another person? That would be difficult. "Okay so that basically means you cross your right foot over the left, step back with your left foot, step to the right with your right foot and then step forward with your left foot."
Her eyebrows rose as she went over in her head if her instructions were right, "Yep, that's it."

Gideon smiled and relaxed when Selina confirmed he had done it right. The boy sticking out his tongue when she teased him about supposedly being perfect and musical. He was far from one and only amateur in the other. He waited patiently as she seemed to be trying to remember the next steps, listening once the third year spoke up once more.
Hop once
He hopped forward once as Selina did.
Stomp once with the right foot.
And Gideon did just as directed.
Stomp once with the left foot
The boy echoing the move with the left.
So far so good it didn't seem so hard. However now for the cha cha which he had to admit he had no clue about and Selina wasn't sure how to explain it. Gideon watched as she moved though and while it was a little complicated, it just needed practice or so he guessed.
Right over left...step back...ste--
His feet apparently didn't want to work right for halfway through the four steps he felt himself wobble and when he tried to compensate, Gideon tripped over his own long legs and fell to the ground. "Ye were saying..." he mused looking up at Selina as he sat having fallen on his butt.

Selina was in the midst of showing the cha cha over and over again so he could emulate her when she heard a thud echo behind herself. She turned to the side where Gideon had once stood over her and saw that he was now on his bum on the floor. Her hand flew over her mouth to stop the giggles and she mused, "Well I was saying that you were coordinated, but I can't exactly say that now... huh Gertie?" She stuck her tongue back out at him and put her hand out to help him up.As she helped his to his feet she gave him a kiss on the cheek and blushed, "All better."
Back to the dance Selina. Focus on the dance.
She coughed and repeated, "Okay so you are going to cross your right foot over your left and step back with your left foot like so..." She did the move nice and slow and waited for him to catch on. Once he had a grasp she pressed on, "Then you step to the right with your right foot and then step forward with your left." She looked at him to do the step and smiled, "You can do this, Gertie. Have some faith."

He accepted her offered hand with a nod of thanks as he got to his feet, smiling as she kissed her cheek. "Aye...all better."
Stepping back to allow Selina to show him the cha cha steps all again once more abeit slower, the fourth year set to focus. on her own movements, trying to memorize them rather then duplicate them just yet. "Right over left...then step back with left," Gideon echoed doing the steps slowly but correctly, starting out fine like he had the last time. Nodding he paused in place and listened to the last two steps before attempting himself. "Step to the right with me right...step to the front with me left," he said as he moved, sighing in relief as he stayed standing this time.
"Surprise!" he teased bending in half and letting his arms hang as he gathered himself.

She put her hands on her hips and stuck her tongue out at him when he said he was all better, "Good." Then she watched him work through the cha cha nice and slow. It hit her... the cha cha. It was called the cha cha slide. No wonder why this move was in there. She had been so confused previous to working this out, but now she got it. "Huh," she whispered. That was interesting.
Her eyes refocused on Gideon as he worked through it and when he was done he exclaimed surprise. She rose her eyebrow and said, "Surprise?" She shrugged her shoulders and let it go. The last thing she was going to attempt to do was understand what was going on in Gideon Gert's head. A lot of him was still a mystery to her.
Once he was ready to move on she pressed on, "Okay now you're just going to turn it out. Basically you just turn from one corner of the room to the other like you do in the Macarena." She turned to the side and then instructed, "Now you just clap your hands! Simple enough... and then you criss cross." It was simple. She just crossed her legs twice, "Now you try."
And back to the Observatory for Presley. It had been a long time since she'd come here. She'd purposely avoided it because an older student had told her last year that it wasn't allowed, and she was doing her best to follow all of the rules carefully. If she didn't follow the rules, she couldn't be skipped up a year like she had talked to the head about. But now Presley needed her favorite thinking spot. More than anything.
So she stole quietly into the Observatory, and skipped from there up onto the frigid roof. It really was cold, even for February. Presley wrapped her cloak tightly around her petite shoulders and cast a brief warming charm. She felt like a hobo. Nobody, not even her best friend, nobody in Hogwarts had ever seen Presley Black look as lazy as she did now. She was always immaculately put-together. Today, she wore sweats and a giant tee-shirt. She was even wearing her black Converse. And to top off the thoroughly muggle outfit, she wore her cloak. Her hair was a mess, make-up not done, Presley felt gross.
She needed to think, however. Today, it didn't matter that she'd skipped her shower this morning, and not curled her hair, or even straightened it. She stared out at the big, almost round moon, and got to the subject. Her father. His last letter....well, had been last year. And she had failed to grab his attention when she failed to convince Tate to skip her a year. She would never gain his approval, no matter how hard she tried and tried.
Presley flopped back onto the roof so that she was lying flat on her back. Why did she even care? She shouldn't! It's not like any of this affected him in the least, and Pres was just making her own life more difficult by worrying about it. But she couldn't stop. She just couldn't.

He had just felt like being playful at the moment, brushing off the fact that he had fallen quite ungracefully only minutes before. Taking a deep breath, he refocused his attention on Selina and her instructions, a little taken back having thought that what they had already done had been the whole dance.
Boy was he wrong.
Listening to her words, he raised an eyebrow in confusing at the mention of another dance, this one totally unfamiliar but forgetting it to simply watch her action, nodding as he understood and duplicated the simply enough motion. With a clap of his hands to echo hers, Gideon paused to watch her criss cross before even attempting it himself. "Like this?" he questioned, doing his best to mirror her, nearly stumbling at one point but easily regaining his balance and smoothly continuing .

"That's it," Selina affirmed at his question. Then she smiled at him and moved onto the last part of the cha cha slide, the most complicated Muggle dance Selina had ever had the misfortune to learn, "Okay this is the last bit. We are at the home stretch. So what you do next is you slide to the left like the beginning and then slide to the right," she did those two steps one after another, "Then you reverse, which basically means you spin around in a circle twice." She made sure she kept her head straight when she spun for fear of getting dizzy. But it all ended up working out in the end.
She turned to the side to look at Gideon to see if he was keeping up. She could wait for all of this dancing to be over. Neither of them were particularly coordinated in that area. "No you are going to bend down to the floor and then slowly reach back up to the ceiling." Selina did as she instructed and kept a close eye on Gideon, "How are you doing?"
It was the final two steps... of the fifteen steps....
Her head searched for the next step until she finally remembered with a little help from the music. "Next you are going to Charlie Brown. That is basically the step where you do the running man. To break it down beyond that it is the where you rock forward on your right foot while you kick your left foot back." She showed him nice and slowly the Charlie Brown. It was not that difficult, it was sort of like rocking back and forth with a random kick.
"FREEZE!!!!" She yelled and posed. After a few seconds of holding her pose she burst into giggles, "Alright... there you have it. That is the cha cha slide. Now hopefully we never have to do it again."

At least by Selina's admission, he was doing well so far. Home stretch certainly sounded nice, seemingly glad he himself hadn't chosen to teach Selina this dance and its seemingly never-ending amount of steps. Gideon knew he wouldn't have remembered it all and he doubted he'd remember them now to ever repeat. Bending down, he slowly rolled himself back up and reached towards the ceiling, or in the direction of it seeing as the observatory ceiling was quite high. "Alright..." he answered with a small smile at Selina as she looked at him to see if he was still with her. Gert you fly brooms and play dangerous games such as quidditch, dancing shouldn't get you down.
Charlie Brown...running man?
Gideon was certainly going to need to pay close attention because none of it struck a cord with him. He nodded at her words as he listened, watching his girlfriend's moves as she did what was apparently the Charlie Brown. Moving to repeat her actions, he realized what he had finally realized Selina as but before he could dwell he was cut off.
All of a sudden...
"FREEZE!!!!"
Gideon did his best to obey, though the suddenness made him need to work to keep his balance and do just that. He relaxed when Selina giggled, adding his own batch of laughter and shook his head. "Aye...that was rough. But now its thankfully over."

Selina's giggles started to subside as she held her stomach in place. Because she was so small, whenever she laughed her sides always shook. It was not the most comfortable feeling in the world, that was why she hated being tickled so much because when she laughed she laughed really hard. "Yeah, thankfully we aren't the dancing type. I think we should stick to Quidditch. It is more our speed."
Then she flicked her wand in the air and turned off the music. She stepped aside and moved back over to the ledge of the window and smiled, "I'm really glad that's over, besides I'm kind of hungry. Didn't eat dinner tonight." That little fact right there was very uncommon. Selina was a big fan of food. She could pack in more than boys four times her weight.

Gideon certainly agreed with them being better at quidditch then dancing. He made a face at Selina's comment about not eating, knowing how she could be around food. "Well ye didn't have to skip dinner on my account..." he said before turning and heading to where he had left a bag earlier before Selina had arrived. "But...I guess I'm getting good at being prepared," he added picking it up and turning back to her after looking inside to make sure what was inside was still alright.
"Turkey or roast beef?" he questioned holding up one of the sandwiches he had prepared at lunch and kept under wraps.

She was about to retort that what kind of person would she be if she blew him off for food when he said something about being prepared. Her eyebrow rose and she turned around to look at him, "Good at being prepared? What are you-" And there he was, standing in the middle of the astronomy tower with food in his hand. Along with the bag he was sporting a smirk that she saw on his face more than another other expression. She shot him back a smile and walked over to him.
"Well look at you being all prepared." She leaned up on her toes and gave him a kiss on the cheek, "Turkey please and when did you get all prepared?"

Gideon watched with amusement as Selina raised an eyebrow, cutting off whatever she was gonna say when she spotted what he had and what he was offering. Holding on to the roast beef that he happened to have in his hand, he took out the turkey and held it out to her. His smirk smoothing into a smile as she kissed his cheek, the boy happy he had made the right choice in his plans.
"When I realized that whatever type of relationship this becomes I need to keep you happy...and food always helps that so voila!" he answered with a smile, moving to sit off on the floor by the railing. The sky a bit darker now but they still had some time to be up there. His tone was neither natural nor teasing, just a healthy mixture of both seeing as it was at least partly true.

Selina sat down beside her boyfriend and held her sandwich in her hand. When he explained as to why he had been so prepared she snorted. She leaned over to him and teasingly pinched his cheeks, "Well at least Gertie knows how things work around here. He can be taught ladies and gentlemen!" She said to the empty astronomy tower.
She wiggled into her seat and took the wrapper off of her sandwich. She peaked inside to check if there was mayo on it or not and she was clear- no mayo. Taking a bite into the sandwich she covered her mouth and swallowed, "So anything new going on in your life?"

Setting the bag down on one side while Selina took his other side, Gideon looked to her as she snorted in response to his answer. His actions however only served to make it easier for her to attack his cheeks and he knew it was useless to fight much especially against his name. "Hey...its not like I'm stupid," he remarked making a face as he rubbed one cheek with the back of his wrist as it to ease the pinched skin.
Gideon then turned to his own sandwich, unwrapping it halfway and taking a bite. Seeing her inspect the turkey sandwich out of the corner of his eye before eating, he was glad he had made the decision on making said sandwich apparently to her liking. "Nothing really though next weekend should be interesting...what with the game and all," he answered, commenting between bites and swallows.

Selina decided to let the stupid comment slide by. She knew that he was not stupid; in fact, Gideon was far from stupid. He was one of the more brilliant Gryffindor's when it came to his academics. It probably had something to do with both of his parent's careers. They were both educators or at least dealt with academics. He had grown up in a very brilliant house hold so it was only natural that he in turn was smart.
She brushed a strand of hair behind her ear and nodded at his mention of the game, "Yeah that should be interesting. Hopefully someone plays a little safer this time around. Because playing dumb only results in getting hurt." She was serious about that. He had nearly given her a heart attack when he played dangerously the last game.

Gideon rested back against the wall, his legs spread out in front of him as they relaxed and ate their makeshift dinner. The two Gryffindors had certainly worked up an appetite with all the dancing, even if it was just two dances with all their complicated steps. He took another bite of his sandwich within the silence, quietly chewing and staring off into space before selina commented back.
"Well we'll have to see how that goes...no promises," he said knowing exactly who and what she was refering to. It had been after all part of her reason for coming to him after the game and giving him a what for. But it hadn't all been for naught since it was those moments that started the ball rolling. "But I will try to."

"No promises..." she sighed. Why did she even ask? She knew that Gideon thrived on flying by the seat of his pants in Quidditch. That was what made him so good at it. He made quick decisions that made him unpredictable toward the other team. Her asking him to play more calculated was not his style. Besides, he was good at playing Quidditch the way he played so why change his style... even if it made her anxious.
When he said he would try to she shook her head no, "No... you play the way you always play. I had a moment. You're really good and me asking you to change the way you play isn't fair to you. Just try not to kill yourself, at least?" He could at least do that... after all she would be on the pitch this time around... with a bat... so it would be easier to control who got hurt this time around...

Gideon heard her sigh as Selina echoed his words. It wasn't like he could promise not to get hurt. That was more up to the other team and their antics... and the bludgers...and the beaters of their own team, of which she would be one this time around.
"Nay, ye were right," he remarked with a shake of his head. " I need to be more careful. I just...try to fly like I imagine it is when my mom and dad do it forgetting simply flying as animangi and playing quidditch are two different things." With dangers on each side of course. Oh how he enjoyed it and he had to admit it was the reason he had even tried out for the team. Not for the game but for the time in the air.
"Aye that I can promise. I will not die..." he said looking to her as she seemed really worried about it.

"Fine then," she chuckled, "We are agreed. No dying." Seemed fair enough, "After all I just got you. I was thinking about keeping you around for a bit while longer... until I get bored of course." She teased returning the air of the conversation to their usual rapport.
The two of them could never be overly serious for too long. The conversation got stale when things got serious and Selina and Gideon had too much private stuff going on in their heads to keep the conversation heading in that direction. Selina supposed she would tell Gideon eventually, but she liked him and did not want to scare him off just yet. People seemed to disappear when she told them about her ability... and well Danny was a whole other issue. She would tell him eventually, but for now she was just going to joke around with him and enjoy her time.
