| | | Muggle Studies Lesson #1-Muggle Games ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
As you enter the Muggle Studies classroom, you are instantly reminded, or introduced, to the fact that Professor Cerulean always tries to transform her class to match the lesson of the day.
The room is covered in large multicolored Muggle bean bags scattered all over the floor. These bean bags have been charmed with extra cushioning charm to make them even more comfortable. Beside each bean bag is a little lap desk for you to place in your lap and use for notes during the class. The floor feels extra cushiony as well although it seems to be the normal tile floor of all of the classrooms.
The walls and ceiling are draped with different bright colors of drapes. It's a little overwhelming but enchanting at the same time.
In the corner, there is a table of refreshments (something the Professor always tries to have at her lessons.). But this time the table is full of Muggle treats. There is a bowl of ice filled with various Muggle sodas from Cokes to Cherry Cokes to Dr. Peppers to Sprite, etc. Beside that bowl is another iced bowl full of bottles of various colored and flavored drinks labeled Gatorade. There are two other bowls on the table: one is full of mini Muggle chocolate candies from Snickers to Twix to Milky Way bars to M&Ms, etc.; the other is full of more chewy flavors of Muggle candy such as Skittles, Dots, Jelly Beans, Twizzlers, etc. There are small bags at the end of the table for you to fill up with these goodies if you would like. Each of the four bowls is enchanted to automatically refill itself when it starts becoming low.
Various forms of Muggle music can be heard playing softly in the background. Anything from rock to pop to calm rap to R&B to Country can be heard in the mix.
There is a small raised platform at the front of the Muggle Studies classroom where a strange white board that looks like a chalkboard stands. It is known as a dry erase board and is a very Muggle inventions. Written on it in various colors of markers is a message from the Professor. Quote: Welcome to our first Muggle Studies Lesson!!! Please come in and have a seat on one of the Bean Bags! Also don't forget to grab a few Muggle treats from the table of goodies! Class will begin shortly! OOC:
Please come in and have a seat. You may chat but keep it to a minimum. Remember that when class starts, you need to cut out chatting. Also don't post yourself coming in late, Gemma hates late arrivals and will not give you a warning, she will deduct points from the first time you are late.
I'm going to give you a few hours to get settled so I'll see you a in a little while!!! Class will officially start tomorrow morning when this mamma in waiting rolls out of bed.... *huggles you all* ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ ~*Lesson Quick Links*~ (Will be updated as we go so you can find the Professor's links quickly and easily)
Please feel free to catch up at any time during the lesson. I don't mind if you post with answers to all of the missed questions at once or if you just wanna jump in where we are at and catch up later or just jump in where we are at. Whatever you want to do is fine with me....JUST don't post yourself coming in late to class that's a NO NO!

Aurora had absolutely no idea about muggle games... but there was something Conan had mentioned... about theme parks... She raised her hand "Um, Professor, I'm not sure that it's a game but they have these things called Rolycoasters." she said. "Oh, and they must have sports... though obviously not Quidditch." she added. Because they didn't have brooms!

Ame's hand shot up as she blushed softly. "Uhm...how about the game Ninja? We played it often where I come from..."

OOOhh ooh Penny being half-blood knew loads of muggle board games...
Putting her hand in the air she said "Professor, when my sister and I were younger we used to play Monopoly - It's a board game based on dice, question and properties.... roll the dice and move your icon, and if you land on the question and get it right, then if you reach an unowned property you can buy it... or if it is owned then you need to pay rent to whoever does own it.."
Maybe that sounded complicated, but Penny understood what she meant.

Angelina raised her hand and said, "Well I heard from my friend that there is a game called golf? Aparently you use a stick like thing, and hit a ball hard or soft, and try to get it into a hole with a certain amount of shots." Angelina's wizard friend visted her muggle mothers hometown this summer, and told Angelina all the things she learned from the muggles.

This game was one of Adanna's favorites, and almost always occupied her time when she would visit a Muggle store with her family. She could stand there for hours playing with it without realizing. |

Games huh?
Of course Josh knew lots of those and, to be honest, considering and comparing the amounts of Muggle games and Wizarding games he kne, Muggles won the match again as they had more. Or maybe hejust did not know many wizarding games. ''Well...professor. When i used to go to a Muggle school, i liked to play tic-tac-toe during boring classes with whomever sitting next to me.''
Hehehehe...that was right. It was not the bestest of the games yet at least it kept him entertained and sane during deadly boring classes.
''And there's an extremely boring and very Ravenclaw-ish board game called Trivial Pursuit.''
Seriously how would one get entertained by telling each other facts or something. Maybe Ravenclaw-ish Muggles would.

| Napoleon of Crime - Gryffinclaw - ❄ Lunar Library Lurker ❄ - Owl Emissary - Pirate Auror Gideon listened to the various differences his classmates brought up, taking note of a few to possibly look into. It always was interesting to find out more about the muggle side of his family that existed within his family tree. As Professor Cerulean focused the topic onto Muggle games, he couldn't help but watch as the various examples fell from the ceiling. he however couldn't readily think of any he was familiar with. The only game difference that came to mind was the variations of muggle and wizarding chess. "Well its not a totally muggle game but chess is played in both the magical and muggle worlds with different rules and characteristics," he supplied hesitantly after raising his hand. "Like the pieces dont move on their own or actually fight each other."

Alyssa needed only to think for a second before she raised her hand. "Professor a lot of muggles love to play Angry Birds. It's a game that muggles play on their computer or on the phones, and the object of the game is to shoot different birds at the pigs to destroy them. I know that it sounds like a very violent sport, and I don't know why the birds hate the pigs so much, but I do know that millions of muggles play it, children AND adults".

Muggle games... *smirk*
She and Anya had played board games over the summer. They had been new to the blonde, of course...but had been SO FUN.
Raising her hand, "Scrabble?" Was that the name of it? Thinking, she grinned. "...The one were you have to spell out words and keep adding new ones..." That had been her favorite, by far. Words were definitely her thing.

Having lived almost all of his life away from the muggle world, Eino really didn't know what would be classified as a 'muggle' game. So far all of the games people had suggested were games he had played at one point or another in the magical world, so he couldn't didn't know the different. Both muggles and wizards had a version of chess, and the only difference between them was that wizard chess had animated chess pieces, so he really couldn't believe that their games could be too different. "Umm, british bulldogs?" He said with his hand high in the air. Yes, it was a dog, but it was also a game. Hopefully muggles played that game, too.

Kennedy thought of all the board and card games he's played before. There were so many that he couldn't think of one specific. Hmm, sooo many choices. Finally deciding on one, he raised his hand. "A game I used play was UNO...a card game," he said, slowly so that the people that didn't know much about Muggles would hear him.

Collin O'Shea Owl Post | Sardines ♥ // Nomsy, yo ❄ rolling in the ink ❄ Really, Dallin should have dropped this class. It wasn't necessary for his sixth year and he was a muggleborn. Even this early into the class, though, he was reminded as to why he had chosen to come to this class, especially once he'd found out Cerulean taught it.
He looked around the room to each student that had answered so far. He knew a ton of games; his family had a whole closet full of games they never played anymore. Raising his hand, he said, "There's Yahtzee. It used to be my favorite. There's five dice, and you try to get different combinations of numbers." It sounded boring, but... the game had good memories associated with it.

And then she had enough and did something that she had never done before…she cleared her throat and then spoke loudly over them, “Thea and Aaron, you know that chatting is not allowed once class has started….” She paused and then continued trying to keep her voice calm but she had had it with their chatting, “minus five points for each of you….” She said with a blank face…she hated taking points away but they were talking and talking and talking and talking and she had enough of it.
Gemma listened closely to the conversation about the wars and then finally decided to chime in, “I think you all have pretty valid ideas about the difference between wars in each society, but you have to remember that both Muggles and Wizards have had to deal with conflicts that ran across the oceans to other countries and that dealt with dictators or mad men that were only after self gain or self preservation…actually our histories can be very similar in a way when we analyze the way each society won their freedom from such men and notions….neither society has been innocent in their endeavors for creating such chaos…” She said hoping that would make each of them think about the similarities of each type of war over the years.
The professor smiled at the young girl and listened to her comment and then replied, “Well that’s not completely true, wizards can not produce food on their own using magic…that is one of those items that we cannot just produce… so there are some areas of the Wizarding Community that have had to deal with famine and a lack of food…just think about the great Potato Famine that both the Wizarding Community and Muggle Community had to deal with near Ireland…neither culter was spared from this famine…many times where there is a community with starving muggles there are wizards near or living in that community as well…” she said very matter of fact a little worried about some of the student’s understanding of wizards living within muggles.
The professor eyed the girl as she exploded on the others in the classroom, “ I’m sorry but that is not the way to handle the situation…first off, I will handle anything that I deem inappropriate…that is not your job at all…secondly, all that you have done is caused a bigger scene then was needed…Next time, mind your manners, and let discipline in my classroom be left to me…” she said politely but with a stinging edge to her words. “ I have not heard anything that is over the top or more than just some of these students not fully understanding Muggles and that is why we are here is to learn about them…but all you have done is caused more problems…have a seat…”
“Marie, we do not shoot down others’ opinions…do not let it happen again…” she said politely towards the young girl.
The professor wrinkled up her nose slightly and cocked her head to the side at the young boy’s reply, “Mr….” she let her words fade off to lead him to filling in his last name…”I am sorry to say that you have been misinformed about a lot of things in your statement. ” she paused and then continued, ”You are correct that they utilize airplanes to travel in the sky, but not all muggles sit on these airplanes for 18 hours and they def do not eat bugs and fish for survival and then go home…I think you need to check your sources and your facts before you share such crazy accusations.”
She focused back on the class and flicked her wand. Instantly a list of all of the answers appeared on the board behind her.
With a proud smile on her face, she continued the lesson, “What a great set of differences….and we could go on and on and on about the differences…” she paused glancing at the list again.
“But now let’s focus on something that is a major difference between the family structure of Muggles and Wizards, our games….” she flicked her wand and a huge stack of various Muggle games fell from the ceiling and landed on the stage next to her. It had to be over twelve feet tall.
“Can anyone name any Muggle games? They can be any type of game…” she asked knowing that it was an easy question for Muggles and that some Wizard children would know the answer. OOC: I’m going to give you a little while to name as many as you can…remember to not repeat answers and to raise your hand before you answer…No chatting because Gemma is still watching… MUAH* "Well," said Nate, raising his hand, " there's Battleship, Sorry, Minesweeper, Scrabble, Monopoly in many varieties, Clue, and also card games like Blackjack, Poker, Bridge, and even Go Fish."

Honestly? Was Adam contradicting himself now? Kurumi merely shrugged her shoulders and returned her attention to the front of the room when class was continued. Her point had been made and Adam was angry at her for pointing out his slight lapse in logic.
Aaaaaaaaand now even more points were being taken from Gryffindor. Kurumi felt like she was a failure as a prefect. First three terms, her house was at the top and now it looked like they were going to be in the minus numbers by the end of the term. Merlin....
Now they were moving on to board games and Kurumi feel silent as people began describing games that, for the most part, she had never heard of. Well, she knew Monopoly, but not many of the others were ringing a bell. After a few moments, Kurumi raised her hand. “Professor, I grew up playing a game called Go,” she said wondering if she should really go into explaining the process of how to play. It was rather elaborate. “The game requires a lot of strategy and playing it can take hours.” Like when she had played with her brother Takashi. Six hours later and they still hadn’t decided a winner AND had missed dinner. “We also use the game pieces in Go to play Irensei.” She paused for another few moments thinking about what other games she had played. One more popped into her head. It was one that her father had made her and her siblings play to practice English at home. “There is also a game called Apples to Apples. It’s an association word game.” And downright hilarious at times.

Oooh muggle games?! August had about 20 different board games in his closet back at home. He was knew which one he wanted to talk about, maybe they could even get his mother to owl it to him sometime.
Another awesome point for the Muggleborns!
The Gryffindor raised his hand, "Professor, there's a game called Twister that you lay out a mat that has a bunch of different colored spots on it and then you spin a spinner that tells you to place your hands or feet on specific colored dots. You then get all tangled up with each other and try not to fall." he looked around the room to see if any others knew of this game, "It's really fun!" |

Mia knew that wizards could not produce food but there were many other ways for them to get around that. They can duplicate what they have already for instance. She wanted to actually argue that point further but the Professor had already moved on so she shrugged her shoulders and let it go.
Instead she raised her hand to answer the next question. "Charades. It's where a person acts out a movie, book or song title and others have to guess it."

Louisa raised her hand enthusiastically, "Monopoly's a pretty known game, too. You try to buy properties and get taxes when other players step on them." She did play it with Jason and the girl from next door. What was her name again? Bleh, Louisa never liked her anyways.
Back to lesson. The girl had amused herself with the others' answers. It was really great how many students knew Muggles' games.. if Adam was here, he'd know a lot. Speaking of which, she glanced around looking for her friend.

Muggle games...great. Her knowledge of that came down to about...oh, one game. Unless she was mistaken, no one had shared that idea either. Her hand shot into the air. No, she wasn't that eager to answer. She just wanted to share the one Muggle game she knew before somebody else did. "I've never played any Muggle games, ...and I really don't know anybody who has," she said. Well, unless you counted the people in class today... "...but I know our Quidditch is similar to their soccer. The players try to kick a soccer ball into this...net...thing. I guess it's sort of like our goal hoops. Anyway, they have keepers, too, but they're called goalies." Or something.

Isobel's hand shot up into the air. "There's soccer," she said. She considered it for a second, then amended her answer. "Well that's a sport, but I guess it's kind of a game." They had other kinds of games too, like board games and video games, but she didn't know any of their names. She knew a couple other sports too, like tennis because Jaymie played it. She wasn't sure if they qualified as muggle sports, because they weren't purely for muggles. Obviously not, since she played soccer. But nothing was purely muggle, so she supposed that didn't matter. The professor just wanted games that were mainly muggle, like soccer.

“Can anyone name any Muggle games? They can be any type of game…” she asked knowing that it was an easy question for Muggles and that some Wizard children would know the answer. "Um ..." Oh no. Not again. Jez felt ignorant and undermined, just as she had in Divination! This wasn't good. Was she ... losing her touch?! Jez hadn't really expected to be exactly 'top of the class' in Muggle Studies, but she had read a lot on them ... games?! She hadn't read about them! She knew about paramedics, and police, and technicians, and ballet teachers, but not GAMES!
Jez realised she was breathing weirdly and tried to calm herself. This was what school was about - learning. She didn't have to know everything before she walked into the classroom.
But that would be helpful.
Jez raised her hand, trying to look composed and confident. "An example of a Muggle game is tennis, which is a sport where they hit a little ball with a bat-like stick - but not like a Beater's bat in Quidditch. And they have marbles, which are like Gobstones, I think, but without the squirting-goo-in-the-face thing." Not as detailed as she would have liked, but it was all Jez could do.

Kimalia smiled raising her hand, " Well, at my brother's place since he has some muggle friends they often play together on some Xbox T.V thing.. I think it's called Hey-Low Reach or something. Anyways, they pretty much shoot other people with a remote controller while communicating with his friends via some headphones while playing." Kimalia thought it was pretty funny to watch her brother yell at the T.V, it was only a game.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Faven Lily Dragomir First Year | Faven thought back to all of the games she had played with family and friends, and tried hard to not say an answer that another student had already said. "Well Professor, a game that my family and I used to play all the time is Life. I'm not making a joke, it is honestly called that! It is basically what it sounds like. Your game piece and "characters" go through life from college/career to retirement. It is loads of fun!" Faven said, thinking back to happy afternoons spent playing with her parents.
