"A wand will leave it's owner if it's owner is disarmed, or killed. This is called change of allegiance and it is called one of the subtle laws in Wandlore. It is a fact and should work for all wands but sometimes it does not." He paused, letting them all soak in the information. Heh, he was teaching a lot today wasn't he?

"Now the reason why some wands do not leave their original owners or why some leave their owners really quickly is due to the wand flexibility." Yes. It was true. "Wand flexibility or rigidity is the willingness to change and adapt of the wand-and-wizard pair." Pause again. He liked to let things sink in. "In normal people terms, that means; your wands loyalty and how well it works, depends on how flexible it is. Usually when you get your wand the wand maker will give you a slight note of the flexibility. I'll use my wand again as an example." He picked it up again, showing it to the class. "When I got my wand, the wandmaker distinctly said that my wand was supple. Which basically means that my wand would be pretty willing to adapt and change its allegiance to its new master, If I was disarmed. If someone were to have a wand that was..let's say..unyielding that would mean it would resist going to the new owner." There were more types of flexibility but Scabior wasn't going to go over that. "Keep in mind though, that as wands and wizards grow together, it might not matter how supple or unyielding it was at first. If you treat your unyielding wand bad then it might quickly chance owners the first chance it gets." And clearly that would be bad.

"Now we have discussed wands. What they are made up of, and how they work. And there is a saying that some of you have said in this class that many wizards and witches seem to take to heart. And that saying is, wands of elder never prosper. I want you all to keep that saying in mind. Think about what it means and what it's deeper meaning is. And keep it in mind for our next class." He looked down at his watch on his hand. Yeah. That was enough.

"You lot are dismissed. No homework for this class but your final will be up on the noticeboard soon. Keep a look out." Nudge, nudge. By soon, he meant SOON. He wanted to give them time to work on it.

Hmmm...

So now that the Professor has explained it all, it didn't seem like such a scary concept now. It sort of made sense really, if one was killed you had no need for your wand (even though he never wanted to be killed, he guessed that was for the older days) and if you were disarmed...wait a minute what constituted disarmed?

Raising his hand he needed to ask something about this wand losing business. "Professor, if you are to lose your wand, and are--um still living, what do you do? Can you just go purchase another wand?" he asked curiously.

And they were dismissed. Auggie began to gather his things as he waited for his answer.

Presley Black 10-16-2011 01:32 AM

Wow. Wandlore. That was definitely something Presley was going to read up on this weekend, and discover as much as she could about it. She'd never really thought about it much. She knew that she and her wand shared a special sort of bond, but she'd never really thought about why. In Ollivanders they'd told her that her wand chose her, and she just took it at that. But after this class, she was suddenly very interested in the subject. "Great lesson, professor!" She said honestly, as she gathered up her things, and stood from her seat. "Thank you." She thought about going to ask about her wand personality, but nobody else had, so she didn't want to be the only one who didn't know theirs. She simply decided she would read up on that sort of thing tonight, and then she would know. No need to embarrass herself more fully than she'd already done in this lesson.

FireboltAvis88 10-16-2011 01:32 AM

Alyssa was surprised that History Of Magic class was over, because she was really learning a lot in this lesson. She quickly jotted down the last explanation that the Professor had mentioned. Then packing up her things, she picked up her and bag and walked over to the Professor. "Thank you for a very interesting lesson, Professor." Alyssa thanked the Professor with a smile and left the classroom.

Granger1814 10-16-2011 01:33 AM

Kourtney blinked in surprise as the professor dismissed class. No..homework? Wow. But then again, it had been a LOT of information to take it. Scribbling the last of her notes on the parchment, she gathered up the sheets that she had gone through. The last bit had obviously been significant. Wands of elder never prosper...she would definitely have to think on that a while longer.

She packed up her bag and rose from her seat. With a smile, she walked up to the professor. "Excuse me, Professor Scabior. I'd love to know my wand personality if we could set something up?" She asked hopefully. He had offered, after all.

DH Vixen 10-16-2011 01:37 AM

Looking up from her note-taking, Mina tilted her head slight. The lesson was over? No homework? She knew that she should be excited about not having homework and all, but she kind of wanted some. Not that she was ever going to come out and say it out loud or anything.

Finishing up her notes, she gathered her things and started to pack them away again. Perhaps her notes from before wouldn't come in handy at all. Nonetheless, she would keep them just in case they would be of some use later.

Swing her bag over her left shoulder, she got up from her seat and started to leave. "That was a great lesson, professor. Can't wait for the next one," she voiced as she passed by on her way out.

Perfect. Ha. Tori got a perfect. She totally was perfect, of course. About time Scabior recognized that.

Anyway. The man was going on another long-winded lecture so the redhead hurried to jot down most of what he was saying. Then he dismissed them, all too soon for her liking, and she sat back in her chair with a frown.

"Professor, what were you saying earlier about wand personalities? Could you possibly tell me mine?" Please? She looked up at him with an innocent, angelic expression.

Eino wrote as fast as he could, trying to record every single word that came out of the professor's mouth. By the time Professor Scabior had finished talking, Eino's hand was hurting, but he had achieved in recording most of what the professor had said, and he had also paid attention so it was a success. Wands of elder never prosper... Was now stuck in his mind, along with the fact that they would have to begin working on their final soon. He sighed and closed his textbook, which he should have done much earlier since he didn't really use it and it was occupying too much space on the desk. He still wanted to stick around a little longer to hear what the professor would say in regards to the Gryffindor boy's answer. He had a million questions himself, but Professor Scabior had already dismissed them, so Eino packed his belongings very slowly so he had time to hear the answer. Finally, he picked up his bag, thanked the professor, "Thank you, Professor Scabior," waved, and walked out of the door.

That was it? Jonathan was still stuck onto his seat when the professor suddenly announced that the class was over. This class ended faster than he could have imagined. He thought they were going to dwell more into their wands.

But oh well...

Jonathan fixed up his things and put on his robes back. He stood up and looked at the professor. "Thank you, professor" he gave a small smile. Good thing about it was that they didn't have homework. Downside was that probably, he's going to make the final homework really hard.

Jonathan walked outside of the room.

The1HBIC 10-16-2011 01:45 AM

Oh Marilyn

That's it? Class was over? But Professor Scabs didn't even answer Marie's question. Well not directly anyway. He DID answer it through other student's questions though.

Cousin It's wand belonged to Marie...

She had disarmed AND defeated the girl in a fair and proper duel.

Getting up from her seat she walked over to her cousin. "I believe you have something that belongs to me." Holding her hand out she waited for the girl to hand over her wand.

That's right. Marie wanted what rightfully belonged to her. Professor Scabby over there so much as said it was hers.

Now hand it over.

Scabior waited around, just in case some students wanted to see him about the personality of their wand woods. "Still on the killing thing aren't you?" He raised a brow at the Gryffindor. Yeah. That was obvious. "Don't worry about the killing thing. Next class will clear that up." Hopefully. "And if you do happen to lose your wand the easiest thing to do would be to disarm the person who won it from you." Easy right?

Amethyst was stunned. She had taken in so much! She actually loved the lesson, and was eager get to the next one. She walked up to the Professor. She smiled to him. "Professor, Thank you for such an exciting lesson!"

Isabelle listened carefully. Wow, this was a lot to take in. She looked at her wand. She had learned a lot about wands, she began to wonder more about her wand now. It was new. Isabelle raised her hand. "Professor, do wands sort of adapt to their owners. I just got a new wand because my old one broke. Would it work not as well right now but sort of be broken in after awhile and begin to work better for me?" Isabelle questioned. Sometimes her wand just didn't feel right.

WeasleyGirl 10-16-2011 02:11 AM

Nikolas listened to the professor explanation about the wands and what made them change owners. Hopefully his wand wasn't going to do that, even though his wand was unyielding or so the wandmaker told him. Nikolas was ready to write down the homework but...there was no homework! except for the final Awesome

Nikolas wrote down the last few things and packed up his belongings. Walking up to the front he said goodbye to Scabior "Goodbye professor and thanks for the lesson" and headed to his next class.

luna-p 10-16-2011 02:12 AM

Ashley wrote down as much as he could, taking a few extra moments to add in notes where he thought he might need clarification. Just as he was done and ready for more information, class was announced as dismissed. Honestly, he was actually disappointed about this, but gathered his things, giving the professor a "thank you!" before leaving to read up more about wands and whatnot. He was just starting to get into all of that stuff!

August couldn't help it that he was worried about having his wand stolen. He hadn't grown up around magic like many of his fellow students and he was new to this whole wand thing. He wasn't ready for it all to be taken away from him; apparently his fear was noticable to the Professor.

Listening quietly as the man assured him they would cover this more in depth in their next lesson and then some advice about getting his wand back, August's fears were lessened slightly. "Alright, thank you Professor Scabior. That was a good lesson." he waved goodbye and then left the room to head back to the Common Room.

Kourtney nodded eagerly. "Yes, sir, that's fine with me." She gripped her bag a little tighter. "Thanks Professor!" With that said, she turned and made her way out of the door to the classroom. Now to get on to her next lesson, though thoughts of discovering her wand's personality were certainly buzzing about her head.

Tommehbell 10-16-2011 02:15 AM

Harlow finished scribbling her notes out. She never realized there was so much to wandlore. It was rather fascinating to say the least. She would have to talk with her aunt who took over the wand shop from her great grandfather. She would look at her wand in new respect, especially since her was very unyielding. So Harlow didn't have to worry about it switching allegiances on her.

She packed up her belongings stowing her wand in her robes, "Thanks Professor." she called before heading to her next class.

HaRoHeGiNeLu 10-16-2011 02:18 AM

....Wait. Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait. Wait.

Final?!

Did she have to do that? Did fifth years do finals AND OWLs? Because after the holidays....after her mum's lecture over the holidays...Ellie SO would NOT be able to do both. That was just...too much. She wasn't even certain she could do all the OWLs her mum told her she HAD to take.

She'd ask....someone about this. Little Professor was first to mind, but he wasn't here, now was he? And she wasn't paying any social visits to Professors. Not even Professor Bentley or Professor Hadley. So....

Oh well. She'd find out somehow at some point.

Right NOW, though? The redhead cast a glance to Treyen. They were meeting, yeah? Her eyes dropped to her broom, but even that didn't change her mind. She had free time. She did. And she was spending it with the Prefect beside her.

Ellie grabbed her broom as she stood up and made sure to catch Treyen's eye. She wasn't leaving without him, so if he had questions for Professor Scabior, he should hurry up. Mhhm.

Isabelle looked at the professor glad she had asked this question. "Oh, that's probably it because I just got this wand over the summer," Isabelle said. It made perfect since to her now that the professor was explaining it. "I think that's what's happening. I am just not very accepting of it yet because I still want my old one back," she missed her old wand a lot. Get over it Isabelle you need to accept this one. "Thank you Professor, I learned a lot." she said with a smile as she picked up her stuff to leave.

Deezerz 10-16-2011 02:35 AM

No homework....but why?

Kennedy stood up and packed his things, wondering what their final was going to be about. He sure hoped it'd be something easy, but he doubted that. Well, he would keep his fingers crossed. Closing his bag, he pushed in the chair. "Goodbye, Professor Scabior," he said with a small nod and with that he exited the History of Magic classroom.

RandomRaven 10-16-2011 02:59 AM

THE LESSON WAS FINISHED???

Professor Scabior was very quick explain the lesson. But... yeah. No homework. That better.

"Thanks Professor." Raven packed her stuff and back to Slytherin house.

Kurumi sat and listened to what ended up being the final portion of his class. Her arm moved furiously over her parchment as she attempted to keep up with what he was saying. For someone who didn't like it when students talked for long periods of time, he sure liked to hear himself talk. Oh well, that seemed to be the case with most things with people.

Once class was dismissed, Kurumi began to gather up her things, lingering for a bit as she waited to hear what other students were asking - her curiosity often got the best of her in such situations. And, they were getting their final assignment already? Merlin, it was probably going to be very time consuming if he was assigning it prior to his next lesson.

Tugging on her sweater a bit, Kurumi stood up and walked up to Professor Scabior and bowed again. "Thank you for the lesson, Professor," she said with one hand in her pocket on her wand. Something that the Dueling Club master had said, he wand being best for Transfiguration and how that, well, connected to who she as a witch. "Would it be alright if I stopped by your office a little later?"

FearlessLeader19 10-16-2011 05:13 AM

Jory gathered his stuff and shoved it all in his bag. "I'll re-pack by the Lake,'' he thoought. He looked around for Ari again but he hadn't seen her in the class and he was concerned. This certainly would have been an interesting lesson for her.

He swung his bag over his left shoulder and headed for the class room door but not before pausing at Professor Scabior's desk. "Bye, Professor,'' Jory said cheerfully "Great lesson.''
