Oh heyy. Ancient Runes again. Zara happily walked into the classroom still thinking of that strange letter that the owl had given professor the last time. Oh well.

"Good day, Professor!" Zara greeted with a wide grin and took an empty seat.

Hmm, whether it was because she was bored, or she had already signed up for this class and now she regretted it, but Evelyn found herself dragging her feet to the lesson. Could also be because that the lesson was on the fifth floor. Meh.

However, the Slytherin finally made it and stared into the classroom. She was determined to understand the Professor this time. Thank Merlin he wasn't anything like the transfiguration professor but lately she was having a hard time deciding which class she'd rather be in. The one where she couldn't understand a word being a said, or the crazy dude that lets crazy people play with chainsaws. "Good Day, Professor." she smiled before going to find a seat.

Speaking of seats, there weren't too many near her friends. Salander was with Lexi, ew, Marie was near Carter, double ew, and Cookie girl was just out of the question.

Which left....Simon. SIMON!

See, now here was an acceptable person to sit next to! No one she hated around him, nice to be with, and had a seat open right there. Awesooooome. "Hey Simon." she muttered as she slid into a sit next to his. Hmm, hopefully he wasn't saving it for anyone.

Tough luck for them.

"Hello Professor." Aurora sat down behind a desk. "Ooh, a rune pendulum." she said, incredibly interested; she had read about them but had never really understood their use.

Today, Jamie was very tired. And having Ancient Runes was not going help that in any way. It was a lesson that he didn't understand no matter what, and he just was not looking forward to it. He entered the classroom, and sat at the very back. Obviously. He could easily hide or fall asleep in the back of the classroom. "Hi, Professor." He said quickly, before sitting down.

Eying the weird pendulum hanging in the middle of the class, Jamie raised an eyebrow. He really didn't know what it was. Best not to look anybody in the eye, the third year got out his stuff and piped down, ready for class to start.

Evan stepped in the runes classroom, smiling at the Herr. He wasn't even taking the class, and yet he was there, because he liked the Herr. He wanted to attend his classes, the man was from Norway and needed acceptance in a whole foreign country, obviously. Plus, the fact that he figured Mina might be here. They could barely talk, and the only reason for that was because of lessons. If it was anything else... no, lessons. Because she was busy with them, the lessons, not with someone else.

Thus, after the greeting the Professor, his eyes scanned the room to spot Mina there to his joy, and he merrily made his way to the group, only to feel the tenseness in the air. To cheer them up, he greeted them all. "Hi S--Mina," he said, giving her hand a small squeeze. Then he greeted the rest, "And Marie... Carter..." that haircut SCUKED, "...and Caroline." Merlin, he almost called Mina 'Sophie.' Almost. And he didn't even have any idea where Sophie came from...

'Good day, Professor!', Gwendolyn greeted as she entered the room. She took a seat and looked around.

The girl decided she liked this class, though she was confused the last time. Maybe because it was the first clas, she thought.

"Hello Professor," Rachel said cheerfully, she looked around the room, and saw Gwen, she went and sat next to her, last time, this class made her very confussed, but she liked it all the same.

Simon walked in and smiled at the Professor. "Hello Professor, I hope you are well?" Simon hadn't seen this Professor before hopefully she wasn't mean and would answer his question, he then went and sat down at the front of the class where he could see what the Professor was like.

Ariella walked into the Ancient Runes classroom, all of her books and supplies in her arms. "Hello, Professor!" she said cheerfully. She was in a fabulous mood.

Sophia HATED this class. She didn't know why her mom made her take it. For a challenge? Yeah, probably.

She plopped her rear end down into a seat between some students and hoped she wasn't intruding. No matter, it was a lesson. And it was time to learn. Pulling out everything she needed, she looked around. No one familiar, except Dallin, who was already sitting next to another girl.

Where were her friiiiiiends? Gah.

She flipped open the book to the chapter they were studying, and began to read, waiting for this weird Professor to start.

Runes. Ancient Runes. AGAIN!

Boy did she hate this lesson. And to make things worse, she was late. As usual. Grrr!

Kita skidded to a halt outside the classroom and took a peak inside. Ok, there wasn't a sign telling her that she was late or anything...

The brunette let a natural smile spread across her face as she entered the classroom a little too quickly. "Hello Professor," she said brightly. She made her way towards an empty desk and sat down, her eyes drifting towards the weird pendulum thingy hanging in the middle of the classroom. Great(!) This class was going to be weird wasn't it?

"Vell, ze costume iz able to be removeded, and ze beard... It should have falled off when leaffing ze classroom." He said to the girl.

Turning to the entire class he smiled. "God kveld, Barn." He said and nodded "Let us begin ze lesson."

His accent still as heavy as ever. "Last class ve discussed ze Runes and ze basics... Today ve vill discuss zeir meaninks. Vy do ze runes have meaninks? Vat are ze meanikins used for."




ooc: God kveld, Barn. = Good Afternoon, Children. Oh and the question he is asking is Why do runes have meanings. What are those meaning used for?

His mind wandering a bit before the lesson began, Simon returned his attention back to the front when the nNorwegian voice was heard once more as the professor started the class. Vat are ze meanikins used for.... he repeated in his head trying to think of what was actually being asked in the heavily accented voice.

oh....Why did the runes have meanings?!

The seventh year raised his hand to offer the answer that came to mind. "Well they have meanings so they have a purpose. Else they would just be marks in or on stone and wood."

Raising his hand, Dallin answered, "They have meanings to tell what the runes are used for?" He was totally guessing here. "And to tell them apart?" Yes? It sort of made sense.

Selina sat back in her desk and rose her hand cautiously. Last time she answered a question she was rewarded with being a Viking. That was a fate she was hoping to escape if she could swing it. She piped up flinching a little at him and his ability to transfigure her clothes into an undesirable, "It was used as a Germanic language and as a means to interpret the spiritual and physical world. It is used in Divination purposes to help with interpretations of the future. One rune that is matched with another differentiates the meanings of future. They are symbolic of different things."

Eino blinked several times as he tried to translate in his own head the man had just said. Once he did manage to understand, or at least he thought he did and hopefully he was correct, he raised his right hand. "The runic alphabet is used as a form of divination, so I suppose that is what they are for." That was common knowledge though wasn't it? "The meanings are meant to be read and interpreted...?" He said the second part with a lot less confidence. Was this a trick question? Because he was very proud of himself just by understand what the man said. After that answering correctly didn't seem like a challenge. Was there a cure for this speech impediment? A potion perhaps?

Kurumi stared at the man. What in Merlin's beard was he trying to say? What was a meaninks? It sounded like a sort of cheese or perhaps a Danish pastry filled with creamed peaches. That, and why was he talking about God?

Kurumi was beginning to wish she had a dictionary or a translator with her so she could get through understanding what he was saying. Forget learning about runes, it seemed like this term she was going to have a hard enough time learning to understand what he was saying.

Kurumi was able to understand the words runes, basics, and used in his sentence, so she tried to form a question based around that. His inflection implied that he had asked two questions...not that she had the foggiest idea what either one of them was.

"Professor, the word 'rune' comes from the root 'run' which means 'secret' or 'whisper'. It can also mean 'speak' or 'cut'." She paused for a moment having no clue if she had answered either of his questions. Or if he had even really asked them one. For all he knew he was asking them to provide him with some good cookie recipes. "While we know runes have been and are still used for divination purposes, perhaps they were also used as a means of delivering secret messages. A sort of code if you will."

There, she had used one of the words he had said. Surely she was at least half correct in answering whatever he had asked.

Kimalia was thankful to be able to make out the Professor's accent. "Well, Runes have meanings just like our own alphabet does." Kimalia had her hand raised to start things off. "Therefore runes are mainly used for divination and communication and in order to figure out their meanings, it requires us to learn the 8 elements." Oh great, now she was starting to talk like an open book. But she didn't have anything other way to explain it more simply.

Once this man opened his mouth and started speaking, Sierra remembered why she hadn't enjoyed Runes class all that much last time. Then again, she never liked Runes class, so last class was really no different from any other time. Either way, though, Christiansen was hard to understand. Sierra spent a good minute looking at him, her eyebrows wrinkled inward in confusion, as she tried to figure out what he'd asked.

She finally raised her hand. "Runes have meanings, because," ... "well, if they didn't, then they'd just be no different than any carving or drawing out there," she answered. Okay, that sounded only halfway intelligent. Whoever said, though, that Ancient Runes was her sort of thing anyway? It most definitely wasn't. "So anyway, they have a meaning, so we can use them for different...things." For lack of a better word. What were they used for, though? "Things like...well, helping us in the future."

...and that was just about all she'd be able to stumble through for that question.

Simon looked at the Professor he was finding it hard to understand him but at least he could just, raising his hand "Professor ruins have meaning so that we can translate what is writing down." Simon didn't know if it was right or not but continued. "It's like people wrote pictures on caves to describe what was happening and ruines help translate them."

Nika just stared at the professor. WHAT?! What did he just say? HUH? Okay Nika didn't even try answering. His accent was just too thick. She refused to answer the questions. You know what she needs? A translator that's what.

Ellie lifted her eyes when she heard a familiar voice come up behind her. Making eye contact, he looked almost amused at the look on her face. She laughed lightly. Except it wasn't really a laugh, it was more of her breathing a gust of air out of her nose with force. O___o

"Hey." She replied with a little smile. Normally, she would've been more excited to see him. But this class just sucked wasn't too fun.


Ellie had to resist the urge to roll her eyes. Really? How were they supposed to learn anything if the man's accent was too strong to understand what the heck he was saying? Luckily, she was able to translate after a minute of thinking about what he said.

"Zey haff meaninks," Ellie began, mocking his accent, "So we can better understand what the words mean. They have more of a deeper, meaningful purpose for a word, rather than our english words that just exist to make sentences." Chyeah. She was smart and stuff.

Trying hard to understand what the Professor had said, Zara processed in her mind the words.

UHHHH.

Duhhhmmmm.

Hmmm...

AHAAA!

Finally, she got it!

Raising her hand she recited, "Because if they didn't have any meaning, they'd be just a bunch of useless writings on stone and wood. Without a meaning, they're just....meaningless. Pointless, I mean. They don't serve a purpose." Zara smiled, glad that Ryden wasn't here to contradict her again. Wait, was she here?

"They're used in Divination?" Yeah, and magic. Right? "Through using them as layouts. And sometimes, I think, they're used in predicting the future. Also for scrying." Okay, enough divination purposes. What are the other uses of Runes? Hmm.

Oh! Right. "Since these runes are considered holy and sacred, they were used for ritual works or them holy ones." Zara continued.

The Slytherin lad shifted in his seat, trying to keep himself from zoning out so early in the discussion. Blinking a few times he tried to recall what was it about Runes that kept his attention-- because goodness knows how quickly that dissipates.

"Uh..... there have been tombstones found with Rune carvings, so I guess its been used as an identifier-- like whose buried there and stuff about the person... or maybe as some sort of protection-- like keep the dead ones dead or keep the living people from messing with the dead. Or something."

He hoped he made some sense to the Professor dude cuz he wasnt all sure he understood himself.
