" Rowan giggled nervously. "So what do you think of Hogwarts so far?" she asked as she pushed a plate of food towards the new girl who looked positively starving.

"Really?" Asked Beth, glad that she wasn;t the only latecomer. "it's amazing. Really just amazing." She grinned around. "I love it."

"Oh... Oh, hi..." Said Beth to the other boy talking to Rowan. "Hi I'm Beth... Ravenclaw, obviously." She added, offering a hand.

"I know," she grinned. "Have you seen the size of the guys who play? They'd squash me in seconds flat. I did know about Rex. I wish there was something I could do for him." She looked down at her hands, still feeling guilty about being such a lousy friend.

She didn't really want to let Adelyn go- she suddenly had the absurd impulse to cling to her big sister's leg. But the mental image was enough to make Melina laugh out loud.

She reached out and hugged Adelyn tightly, holding her for that extra moment reserved for only the most loved family and friends. Pulling back, she looked at her sister (gosh, that sounded so nice to say) and said, "I hope you have a great night, sweetie. And I hope my nerves let me sleep at all!" she laughed. Even though she really was worried about it.

"We'll make time, I promise! I'll see you every morning for breakfast, too. Trust me, just because we're in separate houses doesn't mean you're going to disappear from my life now." Adelyn giggled at her little sister. She was so proud of her for getting into Ravenclaw, but she had secretly been hoping she'd end up in her house. It didn't make a difference in their friendship either way, though.

Adelyn hugged back Melina as she had reached out for her, holding onto her tightly and not letting go until Melina had pulled away. "Enjoy the rest of the feast, and then go up to your dorm and sleep, okay? At least try to, for me!" She laughed again, "I'll see you later, little sis." With one last hug, Adelyn got up from the Ravenclaw table and headed back over to her house table.

"But of course, he agreed, with a smile, "They have an amazing defense," thank you, Drake Warren, "Yet, they still haven't managed to outsmart the Wasps' offensive approach," he commented, hoping that Dallin knew what he was talking about, or at least pretended to, after all, the boy said he liked Quidditch, but never mentioned if he followed it regularly or not.

"My sister plays for the Wasps," and she'd better never hear Treyen say what he said about their offense, she'd be annoying him about how the Wasps are better than the Arrows and probably never let it go.

Dallin nodded slowly, thinking. "Their defense is good, yeah. Personally I think they should work on offense more." Because what was a good defense without offense? Boring, pretty much. And if they were good at both offense and defense, they'd be fantastic all around.

There's some Dal!Logic for ya.

He raised his eyebrows slightly when the prefect mentioned yet another family member playing professional quidditch. He couldn't help but ask, "Are you planning on going pro?"

Her head tilted to the side slightly, hair falling lightly over one eye as she looked at him in disbelief. "You live in Miami!?" Talk about coincidences. "But that's like a stone's throw away." Not literally, but closer than across the country. So perhaps a stone's speeding Hail Mary away? "I live in Fort Lauderdale," she explained eyes alight. "Well on the outskirts...sort of near the Everglades." But still in the same state, imagine that. What a small world.

Changing gears slightly to answer his question, she gave a small nod. "Very much so. Originally, my parents wanted me to play the piano but after a year of that I realized I just did not have wide enough hands." Almost to prove her point she lifted up a slim hand. "Of course, that was back when I was 9 so I'm sure that's probably not the case now." she admitted with a small laugh.

Realizing he was calling her bluff, Ivory grinned cheekily. Darn it, he'd caught the loophole. Very astute of him to make it a condition to not blame the actual sound on him. Giving a sigh of gigantic proportions as if it was a great sacrifice to entertain him, she gave a short nod sticking out her hand. "Alright, deal."

"No kidding," Dallin chuckled, "One of sisters lived there for a while." He nodded to himself. That was the only reason he'd ever been to Fort Lauderdale, even though it was close to Miami. He nodded again as she continued, trying to picture in his mind where she might live. "That's cool, though. What a coincidence."

He glanced at the hand she held up, smiling. "Parents are weird, huh? Wanting children to play instruments. My mom had this crazy idea that I should play the cello." Of course, there was always the chance that Ivory was the type of person who did every single thing her parents wanted her to do, and the fact that her hands were small was actually a real excuse.

Dal cocked an eyebrow at the prefect, smirking. Ha, he'd caught her, he could tell. He shook her hand gladly, comfirming with a "Deal."

As the headmaster gave his speech, Dallin only half-listened, waiting impatiently for the food to appear. When it did, he gave an excited "Food!" and started loading his plate.

SPOILER!!: Sophie

I heard some snakes talk about it. I don't know for what but we couldn't jinx it even if we tried." It was expected but the the lioness prefect still grumbled a bit. If only her house could make it through a feast without landing in the negatives.

Her stomach gave another loud grumble which made Sophie once again look up at the staff table. Was Headmaster Tate making them hungry on purpose before he gave his speech? At the moment she was hungry enough to eat anything in sight. Sophie grimaced as Ivy finally made the connection. "Yes, that was all him. No magic." Her grimace turned into a giggle as the lioness mumbled "If only it had been one of those house pride lion hats. I think the first years would've taken that better than him roaring. If they have nightmares tonight we know who the culprit is."

Sophie shot Ivy a warm smile. "They wouldn't give you "crazy girl" looks your their house prefect. They want to be on your good side. Maybe you can look up how a raven sounds and then try to mimic it in the common room in front of a select few house mates and see if they like it?" the lioness didn't know what else to suggest it was easier with a lion since everybody could roar one way or the other.

Hearing her name being called out Sophie looked around for the source. It was Finlay the very handsome Head boy. "Hey back Finny handsome! Mind if I eat dinner here with you claws?" Had she just said what she thought she had said out loud? Unfortuntatley yes hopefully Finlay wouldn't laugh too hard. Sophie really thought he was one of the most handsome boys at Hogwarts.

Just then Headmaster Tate stood up to give his speech and like on a given signal the whole great hall became silent. When he was finished and food appeared on the table in front of her Sophie blurted out confused to both Ivy and Finlay "Why didn't headmaster Tate say 'try not to die' like he always does in his speeches? Could something be wrong already?" If that was the case then surely all the prefects would've been briefed about it on the train, right?

"What?! So soon?" With a rueful shake of her head, Ivory shrugged her slim shoulders. "Spoke too soon I guess." Giving her co-prefect a reassuring pat on the back she continued. "Don't worry Sophie, you'll win those back quick as flash before you know it."

Poor firsties. "Now they probably think he's going to roar at them all the time." she stated matter-of-factly. "He'll have to talk really gently for a while to let them know he doesn't usually blow out your eardrums." She added with a grin.

"I might just do that..." But then Dallin was daring her, and it seemed she had no choice. Sigh. What she did for new friends. Knowing Sophie probably heard the whole exchange, she smiled. "I think I'll still practice it though so we can have a Ravenclaw call to give at Quidditch games."

Oh look. "Hey Carmichael." Ivory called out with a wave before turning back to Sophie. "Of course you can eat with us. The more the merrier."

"It's a small world." She agreed with a smile. Trying to picture him playing the cello for a moment, in concert attire in front of big stage, she grinned. "Don't I know it. Along with piano, they also tried to promote ballet, art lessons, and even..." Her face scrunched up in a small wince and she shuddered. "Cheerleading." With a carefree laugh, she rolled her eyes. "I put my foot down really fast though. No way no how. Playing the violin was actually my idea."

Her attention was diverted for a few minutes though as the speech was finally given. Well....Lord Borr. Remembering Arya's stories of the man, she gave another wince. This term was going to be interesting to say the least.

But look! Foood!
With of sigh of contentment, Ivory dug in. Sustenance at last.

Sometime later, seeing that it was about time to call it a night, Ivory gave Dallin a wink and stood up.

Clearing her throat for a second, she let our an eagle like bird call. Or her best of impression of one.

"Squawk."

Just to get their attention of course...If Gryffindor's could roar....

Aware that everyone most likely was giving her a ridiculous look, she felt her sheepish grin widen in a dazzling smile.

"Now that I have your attention..." she giggled to her fellow Ravenclaws."It's about time to turn in for the night. Ravenclaw firsties," she announced with a wave of her hands as she headed towards the entrance. "Follow me this way, please to our common room and dormitories."

Knox's attention wandered elsewhere and he absent-mindely piled a few carrots onto his plate...

... when he caught something in the corner of his eye and looked up.

"Marie!" He squealed exclaimed, waving enthusiastically in her direction. Someone he actually knew! Well, okay.. maybe he didn't really know her.. but he knew her name at least! Ignoring his plate full of carrots, Knox shuffled down the bench towards her with a grin.

"How long have you been here? I didn't see you on the train.. have you tried the pumpkin juice? Did you get sorted into the blue house?" He stopped to breathe and looked at her expectantly before remembering that thing she'd told him about talking..

That answer, his answer made Marie look around the place, around herself. Did anyone see how he just waved all sort of excited. Maybe it was his curiousity still striking that mind of his. "Hey, Knox..." She answered his greeting, sharing half a smile, and then let him finish the list of questions that she was going to answer.

She sighted. Wasn't it so clear that she didn't speak so much, but she could make another exception. "I've been here since the start of the feast. And no, I'm allergic to pumpkins." Yeah, that happened, and you could notice it when her cheeks couldn't actually get super red, she needed the vitamins on that thing! "I spent most of the ride of the train around silent kids like me. And Yes, I'm a Ravenclaw." And she caught air this time. Maybe this was the longest time she'd spoken to someone else.

"And where have you been, eh?" She had to ask, while she served a spoon of mashed potatoes into her mouth. Her little nosy bug was biting her again.

But...but...they were being called to the common rooms and dormitories already?

Louisa was about to tell Vashti how tired she was and that the pudding probably wasn't a very good idea at the end of a big day.. but something distracted her.. something big, and kind of... scary.

She looked around and saw the girl that she met on the train standing proudly and.. squawking?
Okay, that was weird. Louisa giggled loudly, "Nice job handling your Prefect-ness, Ivory!" She couldn't help herself. And she didn't meant it in a bad way, no matter how disrespectful that sounded. "I think we should vote for Prefects from now on." Louisa managed to say between the laughs. Deep down, she liked that their Prefect wasn't a serious, hard, and cocky one. She always had issues with people with authorities but this girl..well, she was funny!

Oh, would you look at that! Or perhaps listen to that was a more appropriate phrase. When they'd met in Diagon Alley, Marie had said something or other about not talking much. Or just talking to her Nana or something.. see, he had a good memory! But she sure was talking a lot now!

"That sucks," he said in response to her being a Ravenclaw, "I'm a Slytherin. That means I have to wear green and live in a dungeon." He still wasn't happy about the sleeping arrangements.

And speaking of sleeping arrangements.. the feast was over already?

"I haven't even eaten yet!" What was this madness!?

squidnie 05-05-2011 11:15 PM

Ivory xD

So she actually did it!

Dallin tried not to laugh too loudly at Ivory's squawk. He looked toward his now-empty plate, trying to stifle his laughter. It was actually a nice way to get people to look at you, now that he thought about it. Very smart.

He listened as Ivory went all prefecty, then decided that he should probably get going to the common room too. He stood up, nudged the girl lightly on the arm and said, "See ya in the common room?" It was a question, of course, in case of the off chance she didn't want to talk to him anymore. He wouldn't mind talking to her some more, though.

Tate didn't say it, but Tiberius had this feeling that no way would Borr appoint others and not take it upon himself to 'enlighten' the students. "That man in a festering, idiotic excuse for a wizard," he continued to mutter, placing his head in his hands. He didn't even care that there was food now in front of him. Borr was an appetite ruiner.

And as for the 'don't die'... Tiberius wondered if Tate was getting lax.

But then, he frowned, why was Tiberius reacting in such a way to Tate's speech. Sure, the man had failed to say 'Don't die', but that couldn't be it.

Oh, no, wait, he was referring to the 'Lord Borr' part.

Arya had disliked that man, reason enough for Treyen to do so as well, especially after all he's heard. But perhaps Tiberius had a bit more information about it?

The fifth year was about to ask...when...

Noooo. "I could never pick ONE, Treyen. There's NOTHING wrong with having three favorite teams." And they were her favorite in three different ways. So, if only Treyen asked for SPECIFICS, he might be happy with her answer. BUT he didn't.

Giggle. "And you say I have bad nicknames?" Ellie had the BEST nicknames. Whatever. Tibi must be glad he wasn't associated to undies, at least.

She turned her head to look up at the Professors... Yeah, she saw them TOO. So they obviously weren't the 'empty chairs' Tate referred to. "Just saying that the empty chairs aren't ALL Ministry people." And that Little Professor WOULD be here and that they all didn't have to worry he'd left them.

...And there he was. BEAM. Ellie glanced at the picture in her hands. She would have to go bother him soon. Unless she was planning on starving tonight. Which she wasn't.

"I think it's implied the day you're born. That didn't stop him from saying it before." That was part of LIVING, right? To not DIE?

At her reply, Treyen raised an eyebrow. Really? Nothing wrong? Well, she was right about that, though, but he won't admit it, "There's ONE that you must like the best," it was common sense, no? There had to be ONE that stood out the most, but...never mind.

"It's fine, Ellie." No mentioning the teams again, and it will all be fine, no?

What? He smiled, "It wasn't as much a nickname as it was a shortening of the name...," he started to say, and it was sort of true. Like...'Trey' wasn't precisely a nickname, but 'Peppermint Boy' WAS.

He never finished on commenting the nicknames, because his eyes were back at the Staff table.

And then back at Ellie. Was it necessary for Tate to say it, though? He didn't know. But...Ivy was already making the firsties march down (up) their Common Room, and that's when he realized he had things to do, Arya shouldn't have to handle all first years on her own, regardless on how few they were. "I have to go," he said, almost whining about that fact, "but, please don't die?" he winked at her and then kissed her cheek.

It didn't take long for him to stand up, seeing that he was needed at HIS table.

He was already on his feet, Prefect duties called for him, so, he kind of froze at the question, of all the things he's considering on focusing after Hogwarts...Quidditch wasn't amongst them. There could only be a reason for that, though, "No, I'd rather remain a fan," he said, smiling, "See you around, Dallin," yeah, we have our eyes on you.

And then he walked to the table of the yellow peeps.

Tiberius slumped, disheartened, on the table, arms covering his empty plate. This was not boding well for his return.

Choosing to think of nicer things, he answered her quidditch question. "Yeah, I played here for a term. Ended up in the Hospital Wing halfway through each match," he chuckled lightly. He'd come a long way from terrified of brooms to casual quidditch player. "Not sure if I'm going to try out this year, though," he added. "How'd we do last term?"

GASP!

Did Tibi REALLY just say all those MEAN things about THE LORD?! "But he's a LORD!" That equaled 'awesome' to Ellie. A LORD! Imagine!

And she was quite shocked that the LORD taught HERE. "What class?" Just imagine, she walked the same HALLS of LORD BORR!!

"What happened then?" That made his lesson 'awful'.

She shrugged off the Quidditch/Hospital Wing comment. That was Quidditch. It came with injuries. Just because she was lucky enough to escape anything serious while she's played here, didn't mean everyone did. Just take James for example.

BEAM. "We won the Championship last term." BEAM. Good memories.

"I have to go," he said, almost whining about that fact, "but, please don't die?" he winked at her and then kissed her cheek.

It didn't take long for him to stand up, seeing that he was needed at HIS table.

No. She liked them all for different reasons. She couldn't like one BEST. No. But Treyen had said it was fine, so once again, for now at least, she was RIGHT. Hah.

Mmmm. Yeah, no. Ellie didn't believe it. It was a nickname and it wasn't nearly as good as HERS. He just didn't want to admit it. It was okay, she knew anyway. It wasn't easy to beat 'Reyn' and 'Little Professor'.

The redhead nodded at when he mentioned leaving. Prefect duties most likely. She smiled and felt her face grow slightly warm, though, at the kiss. "I'll try."

Hehe.

Ellie noticed that Ivory was leading the firsties up to the dorm so...they should probably leave too, right?

But she wanted to get her picture taken care of first. Seeing as Little Professor would probably be leaving now that the students were...and she didn't want to go against the crowd to go up to the dias (it could RUIN the picture!), she decided on stopping by his office on the way up to the tower.

"See you in the Common Room, yeah? We'll continue this," Ellie nodded to Tibi. Because SHE certainly wasn't finished with this conversation. With a nod to Dallin, and after the photo had changed hands several times, with the most delicate movements, to get her bag on her shoulder, she exited.

Looking up when she heard someone call her name, Vashti spotted Victoria and smiled. "Hey, Victoria!" she replied. "How's it going?" She was glad to see her friend again, especially in what appeared to be a good mood.

Louisa sighed and thought about what her friend just said. "Well, it wouldn't be a piece of cake.." She admitted looking down at her hands resting on her lap, "..but I can't just see Kitty lying in her basket and everybody back home blaming me about it and do nothing! It's not fair." She looked up at Vashti and had her sad victim-like face on. "At least, I can try again. We didn’t find him that week.. maybe he's already dead! He must've had a lot of enemies." She tried to think 'realistically' as ordered before and that was the closest thing to an almost thirteen year old.

"I will work harder on classes this term.[/b]" She nodded smiling confidently. "I want us to win the house cup this year." She looked over at the staff table and saw the headmaster about to give his speech. She turned around and was eager to know what's new this year.

Vashti grinned at her friend's excitement and felt her own grow as well. This would be fun! She'd be able to introduce Louisa to the joys of flying on a broom, and she'd be getting some of her own practice in as well before the Quidditch tryouts started. It was a win-win situation really. But then it was back to DADA and Kitty, and her grin became a frown once again.

"I know it's not fair," she said slowly. "Life's never fair. But that doesn't mean you should go pick a fight with a Dark Wizard. If you want to do something to help Kitty, you ought to go to the Care of Magical Creatures professor or the Healer or anyone who would actually care to help. That man in Knockturn Alley, he won't care about helping you out whether you fight him or ask politely." Was she getting her point across at all? It seemed she might have a little bit, as Louisa suggested that the man might be dead. "That's definitely possible," she replied with a nod.

Ahh, the House Cup. "Ditto." Vashti knew she needed to work harder in her classes too, not only to earn Ravenclaw house points, but also because of her OWLs. If she wanted to pass them, she needed to prepare and practice and study study study as much as possible.

Louisa gave her friend many curious and wondering looks during the headmaster's speech but didn't speak. There were many things that didn't make much sense to her. Once the tables were fills with food and the very first thing any rational person like Louisa would do…was to start asking questions. "Lord Berty Borr? Isn't that the new minister?" She addressed Vashti. "And.. who names a kid Berty?" She added grinning. It was a funny name. Snicker! "I liked the group study thing. I think I study better with those." Her eyes rested on the pudding nearby and her stomach shouted 'HELLO!'.

"Anyways, the ship's safe from what he said." She said half-standing and grabbing the pudding over to her side. "And they'll let us explore it? That. Is. Fantastic." She said starting on the pudding. She had her mind diverted now between two equally important things: The ship and the pudding. Her spirit needed the first and her body needed the latter.
Vashti also turned to listen as the Headmaster finally gave his speech. She caught the looks Louisa was giving her throughout but still tried to keep her attention on the speech as much as possible while her stomach rumbled. And soon - FOOD.

As she started piling all the foods - all except the dinner rolls - onto her plate, she heard Louisa finally speak. "I guess so," she answered with a shrug. If Lord Berty Borr was the minister, that certainly explained why he wasn't seated at the staff table. That would be strange, though, having the minister as one of her professors. "Maybe 'Berty' is a nickname?" she suggested. Though what it would be short for, she wasn't sure. "Albert," maybe? If so, "Albert Borr" didn't have the same ring to it though, so she could see why someone would choose to stick with the nickname. She could only nod in agreement to liking the study groups, as she had just forked a slice of turkey into her mouth.

Vashti definitely looked forward to exploring that ship too, and she nodded again to show her agreement. She chewed her food thoughtfully, wondering about the ship and what it would be like to explore it.

Then, just as she gobbled down the last piece of food on her plate, there came a loud SQUAWKing noise. Merlin's beard! Was there a bird in here?! Or-

Oh? Turning, Vashti saw no bird, but she did see Ivory standing a little ways away, looking around the Ravenclaw table and calling for the firsties. Had she just squawked? Possibly. Vashti saw no one else around who would've done it, especially if getting everyone's attention was the goal.

So Vashti gave the girl a thumbs-up as she headed for the entrance of the Great Hall. "Nice," she commented with a grin, referring of course to both her handling of the firsties and her eagle impression abilities. Quite impressive, really, especially the latter. Hehe.

But alas, that meant the feast was over, and Vashti now had to say good-bye to her food. At least there was breakfast to look forward to in the morning, right? As she stood, she had to stifle a yawn; she was a lot more tired than she thought. "You two coming?" she asked, looking at Victoria and Louisa.

Knox seemed surprised that she was finally speaking more than a simple sentence. But there was something inside the castle that made her feel safe, and assured her that everything, from the moment she stepped into the castle, she could be her before self. "I had to answer to your questions..." She said, making clear the ocassion of her speaking that much would not happen so much in near future.

"But, tell me...would you rather be locked in a tower or inside a dungeon?" It sort of seemed the same thing, fairy tale for Muggles speaking. Marie just raised her eyebrow when making this question, thinking about it herself and how she'd rather sleep down in the dungeons, taking out the possibility of a flood...

Marie shook her head when Knox protested the lack of time they had now. In fact, she would have seen the same thing, but she wasn't very hungry and she was sort of tired. "Fill up a small bagel with carrots and take it to the dungeon..." She suggested, joking of course, as she got up from her seat and smiled at Knox.

"Have a good night. See you in class...??" And she took off to walk along her house mates, up to the tower. Sigh.

"Should I start with the complete ineptitude or the vomit," Tiberius muttered under his breath as he stood. "Yes, we'll continue it later." Because he certainly didn't want anyone going into that class imagining that it was going to be a wonderful experience. The man was a terror.

He did need to get one more comment in, though. "Don't let the title fool you. I'm pretty sure he made it up himself."

While he was excited to hear that they had won last year, but that excitement was completely nullified by the realization that Borr was back.

Pushing away from the table, he hung back to see who else he needed to talk to immediately.

Yup yup now follow her yes?

Gavin was full. He had eaten more than he had ever eaten in his entire life. He was also getting very sleepy. The train ride and now all the food, made him feel heavy and ready for bed.

The sudden loud 'Squwak' caught his attention. He looked up and saw an older girl smiling towards them.

As she announced it was time to leave, Gavin got to his feet and followed her. Finally, he would get to see where he would spend the next 7 years of his life! Finally, he would get to see how his common room looked like! Finally, he would get to rest and take care of his cat! Thinking about his cat, he wondered where she was at the moment and hoped somebody had let her out of her cage.

As he followed the Prefect out of the Great Hall, Gavin thought about how much he liked the blue of Ravenclaw, and hoped his common room and dormitories were full of the colour.

"I hope too" she said. Ravenclaw's common room. How she missed it. It's been awhile and now she's finally back. "I went to Beauxbatons" Brielle was the 5th person to ask her that question. She didn't like when the topic went deeper about her previous school. She didn't like going there at all.

Really? "you're a transferee too?" she asked, smiling. Wow, a lot of transferees this year. Hogwarts should be really proud. many students are getting more loyal and loyal to this school. "from where?" she added.

Brielle watched as Jeanne slowly put her book down, she tried to look at the title but unfortunately it was put down, and the cover was covered. "Oh, what book is that?" she asked, unable to hide her curiosity. So Jeanne was fond of books too... but it shouldn't have been a surprise since she was a Ravenclaw--and they were known for reading, too, right?

"Oh, Beauxbatons, it seems really interesting there," Brielle said, eyes glimmering with adoration. She had heard about the school, but hadn't met anyone from there yet. Brielle was tempted to ask more, but Jeanne's next question distracted her.

"Well, I'm not sure if I should be considered that," she said, laughing. Here it was again. "Well, I came here last year, which explains why I've been sorted, but my father pulled me out after a few months here. He wanted me to enroll in a Muggle school, coz he's a muggle, see," she said, hoping Jeanne could understant her explanation. The things that happened last year were such a blur, that even Brielle was confused about it.

"Great," Olivia replied, smiling at her two new friends before jumping slightly, startled by a loud "SQUAWK!" "I guess that means we have to leave now?" She commented, her eye raised slightly before she giggled and followed her classmates out of the Great Hall. She was so excited to see the common room! It was going to be her home for the next seven years and in her excitement, Olivia was quickly forgetting her disappointment over not being in Slytherin.

Ellie nodded, giving her a smile, "Okay, so be respectful. That's easy enough." She said. Ellie was rarely disrespectful anyway. She ate some more of her dinner before raising her head in surprise. "Giant squid?" Hogwarts had a giant squid? Wow....

"I came from Salem Witches Institute, America." She said a moment later to her question, though she was still shocked that Hogwarts had a giant squid. She would have to check it out.
