Tapping the comb again, it was transfigured into a peacock. That would prove more difficult, given the brilliant array of colors. Kellen stared at it. Stared more than he had with the porcupine. This was... how did...? There was no way Kingsley could have known about the peacock tail thing last semester. No way. The man was clearing some kind of Divination specialist person. Or something. Seer, that's what it was.
He looked back at his desk... and it was bird-less. Uh... that wasn't good. Fortunately, the peacock moved slowly, and was strutting it's way towards the front of the class. "Oy, get back here you!" Kellen got up and grabbed the bird by the tail feathers, glad that its tail wasn't currently fanned. He hauled it backwards and adjusted his grip around its middle, ignoring the irate look it sent his way.
This... was going to take a while. |

Timothy brooded a few minutes then attempted the charm again. He closed his eyes tapped and swirled the wand and..."Riveerto".....the doorknob spun around and came to a stop, appearing to be his old closed pocketwatch, he grinned at the professor and opened it triumphantly.
There was a keyhole where the watch face should be.
Crap
So he tried it again, invisioning what it should look like deep within his thoughts.
"Riverto!"
It spun again, this time looking much akin to its last transformation, and he hurried to open it before declaring his victory. Yet...it was stuck.....
He pried it apart and it was the normal watchface, ticking away cheerfully. He had done it....he was not too proud of himself though....and only through a trail of failures did he actually get to the destination.

Looking at the scarf, she thought this would be pretty easy. A scarf was quite a bit like a bracelet, yes? Without trying very hard, she thought, "Reverto!" but nothing happened. Maybe this was going to be harder than she thought. Trying again, she concentrated really hard and.... "Reverto!"
yeaaah.... nothin.
Sighing, she put down her wand for a moment and skimmed her notes, looking for something that might help her. For some reason, she had heavily underlined the word Properties in her notes. Thinking hard, she tried to remember what he had said about properties. She had been the first to bring up the word, and he had praised her for that, but what else had he said? Something about imagining clearly the properties of your original object. Closing her eyes for a moment, she pictured her bracelet. She could see it clearly in her mind: the diagonal stripes made of knotted string...
Concentrating very, very hard on these properties, she thought, "Reverto!" And was very excited when her scarf began to transfigure! Except... it didn't shrink in size. The scarf remained the same size, but it was now a giant replica of her friendship bracelet.
Right. Raising her hand, she said, "Um... professor?" Returning to the Hufflepuff as she asked for assistance, he smiled. "That is quite well done for your first attempt at a nonverbal transfiguration, Miss Ballard. You should be quite proud"
Giving the giant bracelet a quick glance, he added, "Keep at it. And if when I call time you still haven't managed, you can finish verbally." Quote:

"I can try it....and I don't need to talk," Need to want to, same difference. "But thank you, Professor. I'll remember your offer." It meant a lot to her his offer, and if she did decide to talk, he was most definantly on the list of people to talk to.
Turning from Kingsley she faced the frisbee and twirled it between both her hands, studying the frisbee. "Looks like a frisbee, but its still sun shades...." She mumbled to herself as she continued to study the frisbee. Placing it on the desk, she picked up her wand and taped it against her head for a moment, atempting to focus before giving it a wave, "Reverto!"
The frisbee didn't changed it's physical form. Arya taped her head with her wand again, as if trying to rid herself of the thoughts running through her mind. Frisbee to shades...frisbee to shades...frisbee to shades.... Preston nodded at the young 'puff before moving away, pleased to see her attempts. Quote:

Why was she getting the ginormous things!? And, what in the world was it? A big...blue...plastic circle. She couldn't even begin to think of what this was used for. But she noted that it was hard, unlike the limp rope she had before. Which would probably make this easier to transform back into her bracelet.
Moving the blue plastic circle around on her desk, or at least trying to, she might as well hit some people in the head to the sides and in front of her desk... she finally just let it sit there, half on and half off. Okay. So, it was smooth, blue, plastic, hard, round, big, and in a circular shape.
Which then it needed to be transfigured to a small, coil shaped, engraved, silver snake. Well they both had the 'hard' part in common, even though the round circle thing was a bit squishier than her bracelet...but that was one less thing she had to really concentrate on.
Imagining and concentrating on the big round blue circle turning into her bracelet, Evelyn decided this time she should try the spell with her eyes open. "Reverto." she said, with another light swish of her wand. Her smile turned into a smirk as she noticed the blue round circle start to show signs of the engravings and color of her bracelet. And there...there was the snake's head! And the tail and... and the tail coiled like it was supposed to but...
It stopped then. Frowning, she waited for a few more moments to see if it was going to do anything else, but alas...nothing happened.
So now she was stuck with a bracelet the size for a baby giant. Fantastic. At least she got it to turn to silver on the first try this time. There was a plus. Now, just how was this desk holding up that weight... Preston took little notice of the giant silver bracelet, confident that the student would manage. Quote:

It will get easier."
---
Once more, Professor Kingsley took a lap around the room, transfiguring the items of students who had not previously had an item changed. There. Now nearly everyone, except those who were finished and working on their notes, was set up to try the spell.
ooc: That's it for me for today. Keep working on your untransfigurations, but know that if you need Prof. Kingsley, it'll be a bit of a wait. Consider the above my transfiguring your item into something else. Below there's a list for those of you who already named what your original item is but hadn't had it changed yet. If you can't find your name or haven't posted in the thread yet, you can make up what Professor Kingsley turned it into with the following guidelines. 1st-4th year, inanimate. 5th-7th year, animal; spell to be attempted nonverbally.

"It's so adorable," she said quietly, as she reached out a hand, to scratch the kitty behind the ear. It was a bit larger, of course, than her toy lion. But it was a lovely, little ball of fur, the kind she could have cuddled and played with all day long. AND the thoughts were distracting. She was thinking of her own kittens, High Heels and Mr. T, now.
Right. Back to work.
If Gold had been trying this spell verbally, she knew she would have been able to ace it, in the first try - she had lots of practice, with that. She had not done it much non-verbally, however - barely. Not to mention, this was actually a live object. That would make the transition more difficult. Concentrate, she told herself. What did she want? Something smaller, not furry, quite alike in appearance but not able to breathe, more mould-able, all plastic.
"Reverto!"
OOPS. Her Her toy-lion was back, but with a tail that was like the kitten's - no, that was the kitten's - and wagging quite unhappily -- and real paws. Kind of big, for a smallish, toy lion. Gold bit her lip, and looked up at Professor Kingsley. "Um?" she offered. "I think I could do it perfectly, if I tried the spell verbally," she added, thoughtfully. |

He opened one eye cautiously at first and then the other and breathed a sigh of relief. Whew, that cupcake looked fully pink.
"Would you like to taste it, sir, to make sure I performed the spell correctly?" Fletcher raised his hand and asked the professor. Merlin knew he wasn't going to try tasting it again.

BREATHEEE. Reverto.
What did she have, now? One kitty!paw, one lion!paw -- and a tail that wasn't plastic. Gold frowned, and tried again. Concentrate, Shiny!Brain. Concentrate. On tiinyyy, plastic paws. A tail, yes, but one that was a bright yellow, and could not, for the life of it, wag itself that way. Gold focused on it, focused on it a HEAP, and gave the spell another shot -- Reverto!
The toy lion was back. No kitty!paws, no wriggly tail. Gold beamed at it, petted its head, and looked around for Professor Kingsley.
She was happy. |

Ellie tried again. "Reverto!" The necklace's hear pendant (now black) shrunk until it disappeared. "Bye-bye heart" she said, quietly. "Reverto!" Now the links became solid. She began to wonder if it was supposed to be like this... Shouldn't it all happen at once, in one single 'reverto'?

| Atypical Ravenclaw Bookworm // Hair Flipper Pro / / the edgy starbuckian // Hot Messie Mina looked at the pearls that were once her pretty bracelet. Feeling them between her fingers, she set them on her desk and picked her wand up. Giving them a tap and a swirl, she cast Reverto! Nothing
Okay, that wasn't what she expected. Shaking her head, she raised her wand again and focused a little bit more. Again, she tapped the pearls and swirled. Reverto!
This time half of the pearls were replaced with the silver links. It was a step in the right direction at least. She just needed to focus a bit more, she knew it.
Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes and thought of just how her bracelet once looked and kept that vision in her head. Opening her eyes, she exhaled and gave the pearls another tap and swirl. "Reverto!"
Now the bracelet looked like it had before. But was it exactly the same a before. Picking it up, she held it in her palm. It felt the same but she sensed it wasn't truly back to its original state. |

Abbi's eyes rounded with excitement as the Professor transfigured her small button shirt to a laaaarge money toy... and then reality hit. If this would be as hard as flying she was doomed.
Picking up her wand and practicing with the swishing first, when she felt comfortable enough she said "R-e-v-e-r-t-o". Nothing Happened. She frowned.
Right, she didn't focus on the .. ehh what did the professor call them. The parameters of the change? or characteristics of it. Okay, she recalled the image of the button with her mind and tried again, swishing the wand with her hand she said "R-e-v-e-r-t-o" again and and and and it changed!! Into a smaller squishy ball? She raised a brow then squeeled! She made magic with her wand!!! It worked!! And and she made it turn into something else. Getting more excited she tried again in hopes of getting it right.

But yeah, he'd try to do the spell in the way Professor Kingley's wanted them to do and even he fails, he'd try again... and again. 'Cause that's what badgers are, they're supposed to be hardworking yet intelligent and significantly competent against the other houses. And he didn't have a question... yet.
He put out his 'valuable' item. It was a cupcake and it wasn't really valuable at all, like seriously, so he needn't worry if he make a mistake while casting it on the cupcake. And the cupcake didn't taste good at all, it had been mixed, prepared, and baked terribly by a terrible chef: Cedric himself.
He jotted down on a parchment regarding 'bout the cupcake. He hoped that the information he'd given in the parchment was rather good enough. Quote: What is the item: Chocolate-flavored Cupcake with marshmallows all over its icing. Size: Probably a size of a fist. Shape: Not sure. It looks rather round with spiky icings in the top. Texture: Soft, definitely easy to chew. Colour: Hmm. Chocolatey-coloured, obviously. Weight: Light-weighted. Defining markings: There's a part on the cupcake where I took a pinch of it.
He started studying the cupcake curiously, thinking about its natural ingredients and such. And then he thought about flour... flour... interesting.
Cedric raised his hand reluctantly, a bit undecided whether he really had to ask his professor about the thing that bothered him a little. "Sir, what if you were to turn or well, transform my cupcake into a flour, how could I retrieve its original form? Knowing that I have to keep in mind or concentrate about the countless, probably thousands of bits of flour while doing the untransfiguring spell, I think I'll have a hard time retrieving its natural look." That truly did bother him, yes. And he'd like to know the answer, of course.

Errr... right. Cadence had been expecting help, but all she got was praise. So that must mean she just needed to keep trying? As she sat there and stared at her gigantic friendship bracelet, she tried to remember the precise size that it had been. Spacial thinking was one of Cadence's worst learning styles, but she would have to try, wouldn't she. Looking at the giant friendship bracelet and trying to picture it smaller and actually, ya know, bracelet sized. She gave her wand a flourish and thought, "Reverto!"
The width of the bracelet shrunk to the right size, but it was still far too long. Cadence let out an exasperated sigh, feeling very near the point of giving up. This was supposed to be easy for her.

:: Ehgad closed his eyes again and thought about the quill. He thought about it sitting in front of him on the desk and even thought about what it felt like. His mouth worded the spell.. reverto reverto and then he finally pick up the wand.
He flourish his wand and opened his eyes, "Reverto!" He yelled with earnest and enthusiasm. In fact his voice cracked at the end and the drumstick was his broken quill but was now in three pieces. It was only bent before, this was different.
Ehgad gasped and picked up the pieces. No trace of the drumstick was left, but boy was this different.
He didn't care that much though, he placed the quill on his desk. He overlapped the broken pieces so it didn't look broken and was pleased. He smiled and leaned back. "That was easy. I must be a genius or something." He boasted to some nearby students.
He leaned so far back in his chair that his chair tipped and Bang he crashed his head into the corner of the room. "Geeeeeeez!" He stood up, "That wall tried to pull me in!" Rubbing his head and pouting once more, he blinked his eyes to hide the tears of pain welling in his dark eyes. ::

Preston paused, considering how he could explain without too much lecture. "Because the Pygmy Puff was a transfigured creature, and not an actual one, it ceases to be. Your cupcake, while transfigured, retained some of it's cupcake-ness, so it was able to turn back. Nothing of the Pygmy Puff remains, except for the raw material used to create it."
Terribly vague, to be sure, Preston thought, though as good an answer as he could manage without a lecture. Quote:

BREATHEEE.
Preston nodded at the Prefect from across the room. Quote:

Preston continued his walk, taking note of the students' work. Quote:

That truly did bother him, yes. And he'd like to know the answer, of course. Preston stopped to consider the boy's question. Another cupcake? And... flour? "A good question. I am going to use another example, because flour could be the result if you used reverto, emphasis on the VER, now to change it to a former state, instead of reverto, emphasis on the TO."
Preston picked up the cupcake. "If I were to transfigure this cupcake into, say, 15 puzzle pieces, yes, you would have to concentrate on those individual pieces changing back into the cupcake. But, because the cupcake never really goes away entirely-- the spell would wear off and the puzzle pieces return to a cupcake -- the pieces, remember, for lack of a better term, what happened to them, which aids in your untransfiguration."
Placing the cupcake down, he tapped it. A pile of puzzle pieces. Quote:

Patroclus had a profound belief in his transfiguring abilities after all, his mother was at one time the Transfiguration Professor at Beauxbatons.
Looking at the boat, he same that in a way his sandal and it were very similar, the shape, the sturdiness and the functionality. Hism mother had always taught him to find the similarities in transfigured objects, rather than their differences when it came to reversing the affects.
Staring at the boat, he raised his wand, and with a slight tap spoke the incantation "Reverto!" However the inital results were rather underwhelming. He tried again "Reverto!" This time there was definite improvement, the boat was now navy and made of leather. "So close" Patroclus whispered to himself.
Giving himself one last attempt, Patroclus focused, re called on memories; memories of what it felt like to wear his sandals, he mentally wiggled his toes in the sandals, felling them hit the sole and the upper of the leather. With these thoughts and feeling embedded in his mind he gave it a shot, "Reverto!"
Success, his sandals had returned. |

The spell was becoming easier with each cast. The professor was correct in stating that practicing the spell would get her mind off the other things that were running through it. Her concentration had incressed and because of it, she was now staring at a frisbee with rhinestones. Another step closer to untransforming the frisbee.
After staring at the frisbee, but thinking about the ugly pink sunshades, she gave her wand a wave. "Reverto!"
Part of the frisbee grew a transparent shade of pink from the lenses of the shades but changed no more. She twirled her wand between her fingers and tried to focus more on the frisbee.

Once there, he tapped the surface of his desk and cast a nonverbal sticking charm. "All right you, time to stay put." He set the peacock butt-first on the desk, letting the tail-feathers fall over the side and onto the floor, and sat back down. Sitting as it was, the bird didn't look nearly as majestic as before.
Okay, time to look for comparisons. This was a lot easier when he knew what the item had been in the first place. Look at the bird, compare it to a comb, then backtrack the steps. Part of him wondered if the next part of the class would be untransfiguring things they didn't know the original item for.
The tail-feathers were pretty clearly the teeth of the comb, but the rest... ugh. Where the heck were the ends? And it was hard to picture all these brilliant colours as just dark grey and blue. Kellen observed the peacock a little closer, and noticed something on its stomach... the brand mark. So, if that was there... and the teeth of the comb were there, then the ends would be... oh but wait don't forget the colour... Reverto. He blinked, looking at a predominantly-gray-with-some-blue peacock. The peacock was looking at itself too, and puffed up its feathers indignantly. "Yeah, I'd be pretty peeved too," Kellen remarked. "Re--" whoops. In the head. Reverto.
He thought he was done. He looked done. But then he ran a finger along the teeth of the comb and they still felt soft and decidedly un-plastic. A final Reverto fixed that problem.
As an afterthought, Kellen removed the sticking charm from his desk. |
