The Dueling Arena is a large, open spaced room with numerous raised platforms for you to practice your wand work and hone your dueling skills. Challenge a friend or practice on your own with the number of dummies placed in the room. Please read the rules below, understand them and abide by them.

RULES

1. Under no circumstances are Unforgiveable Curses to be used or any spell that will cause permanent damage to an opponent (eg. Sectumsempra, Fiendfyre etc).

2. Please do not RP intent for your opponent, an example of this is shown below;

Plymouth pointed his wand at Copernicus and shouted the incantation, "Stupefy." There was a flash of light and it hit Copernicus in the chest and he fell to the floor unconscious. (Please refrain from doing this, otherwise I will be forced to delete your post).

A better option is shown below;

Plymouth pointed his wand at Copernicus and shouted the incantation, "Stupefy." There was a flash of light, heading in Copernicus' direction. (This gives Copernicus an opportunity to either block the spell or move out of the way or if he is so inclined to let his brother stun him, then he could take the fall ).

3. If you intend to show a little creativity and make up your own spells, which I don't mind so long as you leave an ooc comment at the end of your post describing what the spell is and what it does. (Please keep it as real as possible thank you).

4. Please show respect to the other dueler's in the arena.

5. And most of all have fun! Creativity is always appreciated.

Professor Lawson will be popping into the arena, quite often to see how his students are fairing and will be quite happy to offer any assistance.

ooc: One small favor I ask. Please try and keep it as canon as possible. I don't expect any first year to pull off amazing dueling skills.

He stared at her holding his wand still then lowered it. He did not know if he was doing a big mistake but it did not matter to him anyway. He needed to talk. He needed to say or his mind was going to kill him. ''Sorry, i am truly very sorry, Lyra'' he said ''I owe you a duel for the next time but can we talk a little?'' he asked with demanding a look.

Lyra looked at Joshua as her tickling spell had hit him. To be honest, she had thought he would have dodged it. She wasn't even dueling at her best, far from it. Lyra tilted her head to the side and continued to watch amused. After Joshua got hit, his expressions oddly enough didn't change into laughter but it looked like he was thinking very hard. Lyra held clutched her wand tightly in her hand and held it pointed at Joshua's chest. Ready for the blow.....that never came.

Instead, Josh seemed to lower his wand. Wait what?! Lyra looked annoyed at first. She wanted a duel! mweh. But her expression changed when she heard him speak. Also lowering her own wand, Lyra looked suprised when he said if they could talk. Was this a trick? , Lyra looked suspiciously at Joshua, she knew he was kind of a prankster so she slowly raised her wand in the air again but didn't do anything...wait, he was sorry? for ending their duel? Alright something was defenitely wrong. "If you try anything, i'll curse you" she said still looking cautiously. "What you want to talk about?" she said more softly and pocketed her wand back in her wrist holster.

Josh put his wand back and raised his arms as if he was surrendering ''I won't do anything. I won't bite.'' She looked quite unbalanced. What was this instant attack, the doubt? Josh was always getting surprised how people pictured him on their minds. He simply smiled at her reaction for he had no mood to argue or make up more jokes from it ''You can curse me right now, if you want to'' he replied calmly, it was impossible for his kind of a person to remain totally silent of course. He walked close to her and put an arm around her shoulders right after she asked what he wanted to talk about ''Let's find a suitable place to do so. Then you'll see, hear''

Paranoia as she was, Lyra continued to stare at Joshua, watching every move he did. He was placing his wand back so he was telling the truth? no sneaky sneak spells? Lyra sighed and relaxed her wand arm that had been tensed in case it was a joke. Curse him now? ''Well, i'm not sure about it'' he replied about her cursing him smiling at her. She seemed slightly stressed. Quite naturally. He could not imagine how Evan described the Gryffindor boy for her knowledge. He listened to her words of common rooms carefully raising his eyebrows ''Gryffindors and Slytherins lived together...'' he imagined Slytherins in the common room so Rose could be there. They could talk even at nights. 'At nights. I had to do something at nights, what was it? Get back into the real world! It's not what matters right now!' ''...interesting.'' he went on. ''Should have been fun'' There could be also Evan. But still fun. Forgetting all those he was really glad that she agreed to talk ''Yes, the lake would be nice'' he said and made his way to the lake.

Kylie walked into the dueling arena. She'd been trying to come in here for weeks, she just hadn't had the time. DADA was something that really interested her. She looked around and didn't see anyone. Well, she thought, I can always practice a couple tricks on dummies...

She began going over the wand movements without the incantations first, she wanted to make sure she got them right. She knew she could say the words, but that was only a part of making a spell work.

Bella walked into the Arena. It was good to be back. Dueling was something she loved doing and hoped to be famous for it one day. She got out her wand, and pointed it at a Dummy.
"Expeliarmus!" She cried and red sparks erupted out of the end of her wand, and hit the dummy were thier wand would have been. She smiled and blew the top of her wand, asif there was dust on it. "What I really need..." She murmered, "is a partner..." She looked around, looking for someone to be on their lonsome. "Anyone want to duel?" She asked to no-one in particular.

Teeth growing? Kylie got a little nervous.. but she nodded anyway, walking away from her partner. "So, three steps and then go?" she asked, quietly.

Bella could sense that her apponent was a little nervous, "Three steps, sure!" she smied, "I'm not that good, I know a few spells from my mum, but nothing that'll harm you too bad. My teeth growing spell hardly worked, it was supposed to make them grow really big, but i made them grow abit which still annoyed her mind you...So no worries! Don't fret" She emphathised, SHe got out her wand and grinned, "1...2..." She started, indicating Kylie should finish.

"3!" Kylie called, she whipped around immediately thinking quickly, she'd been good with her spells and charms.. but she'd never had to do them on her feet. Her grandmother didn't believe the world was safe, and every weekend had made her practice and learn as much as she could squeeze out of the little girl. She didn't want to start out with something obvious, as the first thing that had come to mind was stupefy. Instead, she focused and willed that the girls legs would lock together and screamed with extreme power, "Locomotor Mortis!" In all, the whole procedure took about a second. It was quick, even for Kylie's best times.

After casting the charm, she immediately readied herself defensively in case the girl somehow dodged or countered her curse.

Bella leaped out of the way, just in time before the binding curse hit her. Close. She's a good one. "You have skill!" She laughed as she got up and pionted her wand at Kylie, the first thing that came to mind... "Expelliarmus!" Stupid...stupid....she could at least have used something a little more...exciting.

Kylie reacted immediately, this is one she'd worked on with her grandmother--she wasn't sure if it would work in this scenario, but that thought hadn't come to her until after she'd jumped about a foot over to the left and screamed "Protego!". Her Shield Charm was still relatively weak.. but if it was effective and if the spell actually hit her it would probably be effective. She felt the spell graze the outtermost edge of her shield, and inhaled deeply. That was close.. closer than I'd rather have anything else come again. She thought. She paused for a moment, so far she seemed to know more spells than most first years did.. and a few second year spells.. although many of them were weak, she could perform them. This girl appeared to be a first or second year, no older. So, maybe with some of the spells she knew she could perform well she could still win. She then quickly snapped up saying, "Expelliarumus!" She'd said, with strength, though towards the end her breath was betraying her.

She readied herself for another offensive attack, in one quick breath she said, "You aren't so bad yourself." She was already getting worn down and all she'd done is cast a few spells and jump about a foot. Maybe the quick thinking was causing her fatigue?

Bella sheilded herself with a sheild charm aswell as the spell came at her. She felt it hit the sheild, it was a bit weak. Bella did some quick thinking. She didn't really know any proper good spells that would make her win immediatly, she'd have to wait for 5th year for that...but there was a spell she'd read about in library...she'd practiced it, but she was still abit weak. She only knew it from a book. It probably wouldn't work, but it was worth a try, what did she had to loose? "Petrificus Totalus!" She shouted, then realised she knew a much better spell than a body binding one. She looked down at her wand. Nothing. Great. "Petrificus Totalus!" She cried again, putting all her effort into it; wanted the girl to bind; wanting it to work...nothing. 3rd time lucky. "RICTUSEMPRA!" she cried, changing her mind at last minute. A tickling charm would be a funny one to watch. If it worked.

"Protego!" Kylie had said it.. but it hadn't been quite strong enough, especially after having to dodge two spells prior-one that had hit her shield dead on, the other missed. She had been gaining too much confidence in her shields, which weren't too strong to begin with. Luckily, the shield had acted almost as... as a way to dilute the tickling charm. She was quickly over a fit of giggles and focused again. Kylie was quickly thankful the girl hadn't cast another spell after the last-she would have lost.
"Immobulus!" She called, the spell was more advanced than Kylie could do successfully, but if it hit her it would work well enough to pause her for a second or two. Right after, Kylie screamed "Expelliarumus!" She hoped her first spell hadn't missed.. or her second.. she was growing weak, she really wasn't used to this. She quickly swiped back a bead of sweat on her brow.

Bella froze. She hadn't had time to dodge or protect herself from the spell. Stupid! She saw the red sparks fly towards her, but she was glued. Move....move...but it was no use, she was already weak and tired. The spell hit her and her wand bounced out of her hand. But only to her feet. The spell must have been weak. Suddenly she felt warmht in her legs. She could move! She quickly picked up her wand and glared at her opponant, who she glad to see was in a small fit of giggles. Ah well, she knew the spell hadn't been that strong...She though hard and quick. She could do it this time. She could do it. She thought all about the spell. Wanted the girl to be binded. Wanted it. Wanted it. Prof.Lawson had told her to do just this. WANT IT!
"PETRIFICUS TOTALUS!" She screemed. To her amusment and shock, sparks came out of her wand, and started to fly towards the girl. Wow! "Protego!" She quickly sheilded herself from any spells that would be sent her way. But she knew it was weak. She was tired...

Kylie could have put up a shield charm, but she was well aware it wouldn't work. By the time the thought of moving occurred to her, it would have been to late to do so. More out of frustration than anything else, she let the hex hit her and really really hoped the girl knew the counter for it. She felt her body go stiff and hit the floor. Ow. She thought mentally.

Bella watched as her spell hit the girl. She couldn't help but laugh, she'd won!!!! But that laughed died down as she walked towards her...a counter for Petrificus Totales...hmmm....okay, lets be reasonable about this. SHe looked down at the now very still girl, who's eyes were pleading. "Okayy...A counter...let me think..."
Occ-Okay, I really don't know the counter, do you??? What is it???

After her dueling partner had finally said the counter, Kylie could feel her limbs come back to her. Warmth spread through her and she could move--she felt almost sick, but... less... stiff. "Thanks." she said to Bella, "I thought you didn't know it for a while there.. I was convinced I'd be stuck like that for a while." Kylie laughed. "Well, you're really good!" Kylie exclaimed. She was a little upset with herself for losing.. but it's okay. It was her first duel.

Kylie looked at a new girl in the room with a perplexed expression. "Excuse me?" She asked, "Sorry. I just got unpetrified. Hi. My name's Kylie."

And thanks, I really love DADA, just spells and stuff, you know? It still fasinates me what you can do with just one swish of a wand..." She thought back to her little talk with Proffesor Lawson, the unforgivable curses...Yikes! "Well..I'll see you around, maybe we can do something together some time?" She added with a smile. She liked nothing more than making new friends.

Kylie smiled at the Slytherin girl. "Of course!" She blushed a little due to the compliment. She was a little nervous that Bella had seemed to not know the counter.. but regardless, she'd figured it out and Kylie was no longer a frozen being. "Yeah. Same, as far as enjoying spells and stuff. Kind of.. my grandmother's extremely paranoid. She's been forcing stuff down my throat since I was, like, eight." Kylie laughed.

Having agreed to work with Fyo on completing Defense Against the Dark Arts homework, LouAnn entered the Dueling Arena and glanced carefully around. It didn't take long for her eyes to fall on the Gryffindor boy's familiar face. Despite the fact that they were about to duel one another, LouAnn smiled at him and cheerfully waved. "Hey, Fyo! Ready or not, here I come!" she said, giving him a playful smile. She moved to the far end of one side of the arena and assumed the dueling stance. Her wand raised and ready, she waited for Fyo to do the same.
