Tiberius was quite taken aback when the professor referred to him as 'new blood,' especially in the tone he'd used. He shifted uncomfortably on his cushion.

What did he know about the history of magic... not much, he was afraid. But if this professor was like some of the others, he might get house points for trying?

Raising his hand, he offered, timidly, "Well, I didn't know much of anything about wizard history until I bought my books, but it seems to me that its full of events that either muggles knew nothing about or had other explanations for."

Tibi bit his lip and hoped his answer was ok.

GrapehSarah 09-20-2009 10:31 PM

Fallon sat on a cushion not far from Satine. She then thought to herself What do I know about History of Magic? Besides the fact that we learn about the history of magic. She shrugged her shoulders, not being able to think of anything. She waited patientally for them to get past this.

MidnightSilver 09-20-2009 10:31 PM

"Oh, all right," Ella grinned, then took a cushion and sat herself down. She favorited this class from the beginning. The teacher didn't resent her yet! Then again, she didn't do her normal prodding around yet, either. Don't get distracted, don't get distracted... her brain chanted. She gave the teacher a smile. "Do you like chocolate?" she inquired.

Golden Monkey 09-20-2009 10:31 PM

William crossed his legs again finding that sitting in a cushion wasn't as comfy as he thought at first He missed the chairs and desks. Putting his hand up he replied,"Well professor, one thing I've learned is that what can start out as something one thinks is something nice, such as House elf rights can turn into a bitter argument with no one winning." he paused, his eyes taking on that look of which he was about to go on a ramble. "Arguments and long boring speeches are a part of our history, and so are the bitter disputes which can turn ugly rather quickly, for both wizards and muggles alike." he finished, not wanting to go on like he normal did. In fact he had completely forgotten about anything to do with history since the summer break and knew his answer wasn't the best.

StarShine 09-20-2009 10:32 PM

Evan nudged Lyra and smiled at her. He then looked and smiled at Fallon too. He made a "shhh!" at both of them and pointed the professor, who now started talking.

He couldn't understand his warning but who cared? He was never fond of visiting professors anyway, he could easily stay out of his way too.

He quickly decided to think on the question. History of Magic was about... history of magic? He thought it was quite obvious, but then again the professor probably meant something else. He nervously raised his hand. "It talks about history, and what it took for wizards to... come at this point?" He lowered his hand looking embarrassed... Never mind him.

Roselyn 09-20-2009 10:32 PM

'You learn about the history...of magic.' Evelyn thought, holding in her laugh as much as she could. She pretty much knew nothing.

Amber raised her hand as she spoke up. "I know that in ancient Egypt wizards were held to high regard. Egyptian wizards put curses on tombs to keep people out; although nowadays curse-breakers for Gringotts Bank try to regain the treasure locked in those tombs."

She remembered her mother talking about it before she went to sleep one night.

He grabbed a random cushion and sat on it, waiting for class (what class was this? it ernt look promising) to start.

Abigail shook her head “I haven’t a clue when it comes to history.” Noticing Arrick sitting nearby she waved at him, and quietly listened to the others answer the professor.

I put my hand up. "Professor, there are a lot of History we can learn about. One thing is how He who must not be named was killed."

He knew her name? Well, that was a first, as far as she knew. It wasn't like she spoke up much in class but, perhaps, Professor Truebridge was just that good.

And now he wanted the class to tell him about History of Magic. Should she say the most obvious? 'It's about the history of magic.' No, it would probably be best to say something that wasn't common sense.

Whit listened to the other student's answers and then came up with something. Raising her hand, she said,"History of Magic introduces you to the famous and not so famous wizards throughout the ages?"

Rosa Chispa Princessa 09-20-2009 10:38 PM

Herminny raised her hand to answer with her knowledge of magical history and said, "Hogwarts was founded in the 10th century in the year 987 by Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin.".

Lezleighd 09-20-2009 10:39 PM

Satine raised her hand, "Well, Professor, History of Magic is more than just learning the past of our magical beginnings, but it's an opportunity for us to learn from the past of each magical creature, including wizards, and then to make sure that our future is better from those lessons we learn." she paused and then realized that maybe she had been rambling and quickly looked down to her notes.

"Oh," was all Jake said in response to THAT. So... hmmm. Jake hadn't seen the new guy yet. He'd... hmmm. Odd. "Lazeh."

Lazeh indeed.

After listening to Truebridge opening up the lesson, Jake placed his elbows on the knees of his crossed legs and held his head in his hands, frowning in concentration. Did he mean literally magic through the ages, as in events? Or what history was about. Jake decided to go with... ages. Yup.

"Well... if you want something about events..." Jake started, though everyone else was talking about something different. Meh. He wasn't everyone else. He was Jake. HUZZAH! "I think it was the... fourteenth century or the fifteenth, muggles used to burn witches. They called the guys witches too. Anyway, they weren't too clever at finding the magical folk, because, well... we can use magic to disguise ourselves. And when they caught the real ones and burnt them at the stake, there was charm that would make it so the fire wouldn't burn. One crazy nutter kept letting himself get caught because... Nutter indeed.

Vilhelmiina raised her hand and said, "In the 1800s, Giants warred amongst themselves, causing the species to almost become extinct." That was the first thing to come to mind.

Magenta 09-20-2009 10:40 PM

"It's long and bori..." began Magenta before she realised she was speaking out loud. "ah..Its long and fun!" she corrected jovially. Oy, her first class and she was already speaking out of turn.

Windsfreak 09-20-2009 10:42 PM

Matheu was quick to think of the understanding of Runes, but that would be too open and non creative in his opinion. And so he picked one he read a little before class started:
"The Law of Animagi, where you must be registered become an Animagus before performing the change or you will be performing illegal magic."

Fred&GeorgeLuvr 09-20-2009 10:43 PM

Kloe raised her hand and said quietly, "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named was killed by Harry Potter."

Roselyn 09-20-2009 10:45 PM

Evelyn listened to everyone's response. Some answers she already knew. 'Oh, guess i do know some history.' she thought, looking around. She suddenly heard someone start to speak about history being boring, but catching themselves just in time and said it was fun instead. This time she couldn't hold back her laughter, and after a few seconds, controlled herself. "Sorry." she mumbled.

"And hello and welcome to the rest of you too." Truebridge greeted the other students who had arrived and sat quietly.

Ema smiled at the professor. Yayy! She got a wink! She never got one of those. And...how did he know the harmony to this?!

Emalyn raised her hand and cleared her throat. "I know a bit about goblin rights in the ministry and stuff...like that they shouldn't be considered creatures, but more like humans...or something...or was that the giants? No, it was goblins..." Ooookay, maybe she should have kept her mouth shut. Maybe she should have just said that history was educational obviously and left it at that. Meh, oh well. What was said was said. That's why she was there, right? To learn about History of Magic!

And then he hummed a bit, the same tune that Emalyn had been humming at the beginning of the class.

"The rights of magical creatures and of magical beings are indeed intertwined with our own history. Particularly when, as William mentioned, things turned bitter. It's a touchy topic deciding who has the right to decide what. "

Ethan pushed off the wall and stood up straight.

"We live in a world apart. To use a metaphor, muggles and wizardkind are seperated by a two way mirror. We can see out but when they look back, they only see a reflection of themselves. Sometimes however, cracks appear in that mirror and a muggle catches a glimpse of what is on our side. Following this metaphor, what serves as the mirror? What is it that ensures we keep our world and our magic hidden?"

Windsfreak 09-20-2009 11:06 PM

Matheu smiled. He wasn't too familiar with the Wizard laws, but that one just stuck out to him when he was briefing his text. Hearing that they'll be talking more about the Laws made him feel better on the inside.

Raising his hand again, he ventured a guess of sorts, "Well... if they knew what really happened, they'd know we exist... and the statute of secrecy , um" Tibi paused; this was not going to be sophisticated language, "says we can't tell them or let them find out."

Right?

Amber beamed with pride. She was happy that she was making a good impression on her first day of class. Hopefully the rest of her classes would go so well.

"My mother might have been part of the team. She is a cursebreaker herself." Amber stated, with pride for her mother and the knowledge that her mother came back to her with after she was gone on work.
