| | | Hufflepuff Common Room After your journey through a door to the right of the main staircase in the Entrance Hall and down a staircase there, you find yourself standing before a still life painting. Upon giving the correct password, you are allowed access to a warm, welcoming underground room, decorated in the Hufflepuff house colours. Gathered around the large fireplace are several oversized and overfilled plump sofas, which resemble fluffy clouds, and a variety of comfortable armchairs scattered around for you to rest your weary bodies in.
A long table sits in the brightest part of the room (torches are lit all day long) for the students who would rather do their homework in here than in their dormitories or the library.
Portraits of past well-known Hufflepuffs hang on one wall, among them are Cedric Diggory and Nymphadora Tonks, who died in the dark days of You-Know-Who's power, as well as the Fat Friar. Remember and honour them as you walk to or from your dormitories.
Two perfectly round, barrel top doors are positioned on opposing sides of the common room. They both open to reveal underground tunnels which will lead you to your common rooms; boys on the right, girls on the left. |

History of Magic Homework 1
1) Write a short essay (2-4 paragraphs) about the witch or wizard on the chocolate frog card you got. Use any of the following questions to help with material;
Do you think the witch or wizard on your card was anti-muggle or pro-muggle? Why/ why not?
Do you think they changed the world? How?
What was happening in history during their lifetime and how might it have influenced their actions?
2) Choose any three points on the timeline and explain how each one may have affected another. You may be as creative and out there with your answers as you like as long as you present a persuasive argument and link all your points convincingly. (2-3 paragraphs)
3) Working with at least one other person and as many as you like, discuss and compare the witches and wizards in the timeline; paying a special focus to the one on your card. Which would have won in a duel? A dance-off? A debate? A cook-off? Any ‘versus’ question you can think of may be addressed. Summarise your discussion. (Also quote the posts in which you discuss with others to get full marks.)
"Let's see. We're suppose to answer number three. Carlotta Pinkstone, she's the one who wanted the Ministry to repeal the Secrecy Act. Well, that a place to start. Let's pit Dumbledore and Pinstone against each other debating the repeal of the secrecy act. Who do you think would win the debate? |

Cadence thought for a moment... 8 points in Muggle Studies. But then I lost 3 for talking in Transfiguration. At this she frowned a little and looked at the floor. I just wanted to say that I'm really sorry for losing points, but that I'm going to be better. It's just, I've never had friends at school before, and I didn't know it was against the rules to say hello to them before class. I'm really sorry. She looked up at the prefect hopefully, silently praying for some redemption in her eyes. Kayla looked at the younger girl as she rattled off all the points she had earned and she felt a little guilty for giving her such a hard time. She didn't want to come across as some hard task master but that was obviously the way she was being perceived and she groaned softly to herself. Oh she was starting to act like Denton and that just would not do at all.
"It's okay Cadence and I apologise for being a little rough on you" Kayla gave the first year a smile. "It's my first year as being Prefect, so I'm finding it a little tough myself. Just so long as you try your best that's all anyone can ask for...including me" she chuckled. "We want to Hufflepuff to win this year." Quote:

Melanie shrugged. "America." She stated simply. Her and Kaika's family must have been separated a long time ago when people were immigrating to America. "I suppose I must have a relative who was a squib and had non-magical children." she said thoughtfully. Melanie was impressed by all that she remembered from her textbooks. She hadn't been able to stop during that summer when she got her letter and tons of the stuff she learned simply stuck.
"Yeah I know all the rules and-" studied the Quidditch through the ages book like my life depended on it " that stuff. A girl named Emalyn let me borrow her book. It's really useful actually." she said, pulling the book from her tote bag. "See. Oh and I read the rules you had up too." Melanie smiled. That was a strange question, or maybe it was strange because no one has ever asked Kaika such a thing. Not that it wasn't a question that one shouldn't ask, but she just was confused and wondering how such a kid could know the term...wasn't she muggleborn? "Yes, I am...my mother was the muggle one" she said, with a nod, hopefully the girl wouldn't ask about her mother. Sigh. That side of her family wasn't something she enjoyed much. It was really annoying to pretend to be something you are not while you were around them.
But her face was holding a smile now, "America? Really? I've always wanted to go to the States" she nodded, although Kaika wouldn't mind going to Romania again. "Yes, that's probable" a slight frown, this was a very smart kid, for all the terms she knew. Or she could've read a lot about the wizarding world. Who knew?
She was nodding and then her eyes widened. "Emalyn!" she exclaimed, "Oh, she's such an awesome player..." she started to say, "...you're certainly getting the information from the right person" and her smile was bigger, "I know that book...It's my favorite" Kaika said, eyeing the book.

Jeeeeeeez... what a day. Totally awesome, Jake's first time on a broom and all... but woooooaaah... Tryouts were cooler than he'd been anticipating.
Jake breezed into the common room without really thinking about what he was doing until he realised where he actually was. Stopping stock still, Jake looked around for Jack bloody bully-boy Mosier. Not seeing him, Jame smiled and breathed a sigh of relief, heading for that preeeeeetty table.
Once there, Jake got out his books, notes and homework list and started copying his notes out extra neatly. They were all scribbled, doodled on, smudged, and totally unreadable to the un-Jakered eye, so he needed to do them, lest something happened... or something else happened. Yeah...
As he did this, Jake looked mournfully at his pile of homeworks, wishing the homework monster would eat it... and Jack. Stupid Jack. |

Wow they had covered a lot in such a short time. "Um...I can't seem to think of anything else to ask. Have you got anything else?"

Of course their plan had us wizards ruling over the muggle. I don't know if Dumbledore would present a convincing case against the repeal of the Secrecy Statue. I agree with you he would win the debate simply because most wizard are afraid what would happen if muggles did find out we wizards really exist. Lets see where do we go from here. How about who would win in a bake off? I don't Dumbledore knew any cooking spells. He was too much of an intellectual. I can imagine Dumbledore forgetting to eat. On the other hand Pinstone might not know how to bake. I mean she dedicated her life to the cause of repealing the Secrecy Statue. People like that tend to be single minded. She may have not been interested in anything else. Your turn." |

"Yes you might have a point there but I think as a woman and don't get me wrong here but mostly she would know who to bake something. Right plus Dumbledore was a genious I mean if someone would have taught him he would clearly be able to perfom that magical act from the first strike. I mean he would really be good at it if he had chosen that road not to forget that the man had taste" Ray added as he smiled. "How about a dance off? I think Carlotta wouldn't have won. Yet again someone that is so rebellion wouldn't usually concentrate on learning on how to tap dance or street dance or something. We know that Dumbledore did good in dancing... Don't forget the ball during the triwizard tournement" Ray said. "So I guess Dumbledore would have won there as well"

Hmmm Her mom was a muggle... It did surprise her a bit to find out that the quidditch captain was part muggle, but she shook that thought from her head. Perhaps she had grown up with magic and that's how she knew Quidditch. Either way it shouldn't matter. There were probably tons of muggle-born witches and warlocks that were talented in Quidditch.
As Kaika sighed and Melanie gave her a funny look. She didn't question her about it though, figuring that if there was some reason that she seemed to dislike talking about it, well, she shouldn't ask about it during their first time talking. It was common sense.
"Yeah." Melanie agreed with a slight nod. "It's nice there. You should go sometime." she told the other girl happily. She loved the apartment she lived in with her brother and dad in New York. It was a tad small, but it was cozy too. She slightly a bit as she thought of her home.
"I bet she is." Melanie agreed, thinking about how glad she had been when she was talking about flying. Ema must be a a good player, judgeing by the excitement she had inspired in the captain.
Melanie grinned with amusement, watching Kaika look at the book. It was funny to her how much the two older girls seemed to love the book. She wanted to get her own copy and was considering getting it ordered in from Diagon alley. She was actually putting off giving the book back to Ema, but she hadn't gotten much of a chance to take it back to her. |

How about we compare Dumbledore and Pinkstone to Berty Botts. Do you think any of them could do the other person's job? Personally I think Botts would have no trouble being headmaster at Hogwarts. There isn't that much difference between running a confectionary business and running a school. Dumbledore has a good personality and good people skills. I think he could manage running the business. I don't think he could promote Berty Botts Every Flavor Beans though. Of course I may be wrong. Dumbldore was very good at keeping secrets and presenting a carefully created facade. He might be able to hide the fact he doesn't like the product and promote it to the public. I'm not so sure Pinkstone could run the company. She's a driven person who I would say is not very flexable. I would imagine Pinkstone has strong beliefs and no one is going to sway them. You have to be able to be flexable to run a business. You need people skills to lead a large group of people with various personalities and views. I also don't think she could handle marking a product such as Berty Botts Every Flavor Beans. You have to convince people they're going to like the product, and it's going to sell. Pinkstone is too rigid. Her feelings are she's right and everyone else is wrong.
I think Dumbledore would do a wonderful job of convincing people to see his view. He did that all the time with teachers and member of the Order not to mention how he influenced the Ministry. Dumbledore has a silver tongue. He could probably convince the public that it would be in the wizarding world's best interest to repeal the Secrecy Statute. Botts, I don't know. It's one thing to sell candy. It's another thing the convince people that an unpopular idea is the right thing to do. Your turn now. |

Also I kind of imagine someone promoting a candy should be jolly and with pink cheeks if you know what I mean... He would be a representation of Santa Clausa" Ray said as he grinned.
"And now what? Are we done or should we continue on?" Ray asked as another student asked if he could tag along.

"Would you like to join us? Abby asks. Professor Truebridge said we should compare and contrast our people with other people on the list. We could do that. Now where did I put that list..." I know I wasn't supposed to, but... she glanced around them to make sure no one was listening. I was sort of... standing right outside the pitch watching you... she said shyly, staring at the floor. And you were amazing! She said looking up at him and smiling.
