As you enter the DADA classroom, the first thing you might notice is a marked change in the decor. The room is bright and the walls and desks have been charmed to be pink, of all things! Instead of the usual grim and gruesome moving photos on the walls there are large moving posters of frolicking baby animals: unicorns, kneazles, baby ducks and dragons, and on Kazimeriz's chalkboard, a giant poster of a cruppy that keeps grinning and romping about. Balloons and streamers hang from the ceiling; the balloons charmed to glow and light the room in the same way that the flickering candle sconces usually do.
The air is warm and fragrant with smells of baking cookies (just like grandmom's house elf used to make!), rich, sweet cocoa and hints of butterbeer. There is a victrola in the corner playing the song, " My Favourite Things".
Occasionally, the cruppy on the chalkboard romps out of the frameview long enough for you to read the message left by the Professor:
ooc: Please take a seat and feel free to talk a little - not to excess, please! Class will start tomorrow morning and run for about 24 hours or so. Xana~
PS: Don't forget to get your DADA 2 homework in (especially your drawings) and catch some pogrebin! |

She was also gaping at the boy who had asked the professor and looked between him and Kazimeriz.
That was indeed a difficult question, Miranda had only heard a rumour about an attack at the library, but hadn't really heard much about it.
She acted as if practicing her wand movement, keeping her ears perked for whatever the Professor would say.

He twiddled his wand in his hands for a moment as he pondered. Several happy memories came to him. He focused on one of him and Liz walking during the winter...
"Expecto Patronum." he stated with a flourish of wand. A steady wisp of silver magic flew from his wand. It wasn't much, but it was something.

Ludo raised his hand, "Professor? Sir? If you don't mind me asking, I know this is a difficult subject. But were you the one that sent a Patronus to the Headmaster the day the Hufflepuff boy was attacked in the Library?" Hearing a familiar voice cast the charm, Elizabeth looked over to see Ludo. After a second in which she wondered if she had been so zoned out she had missed his arrival, she smiled and sidled over near him, her eagle Patronus following her. It was taking some of her energy to maintain it, but as long as she kept her concentration going, it wasn't as difficult as she would have thought. But as she saw his focus change, and heard the question he asked Professor Kazimeriz, her eyes widened. Oh please don't let the professor get angry, she thought, feeling a tiny bit guilty since she knew Ludo had gotten the idea from their discussion after they had gotten to the common room, way back when that had all happened.

Pfft. As if this cheerful atmosphere would help him stimulate some happy memories. He wasn't feminine and contrary to popular belief, he really did not like the color pink.
Happy memory. Happy memory. Only thing that came to mind was a certain recent incident in the Broom Cupboard and a brief sentence, 'I want to hold your hand'. Focusing his energy all on that one line, the fifth year raised his wand and closed his eyes. "Expecto patronum!" Dominic spoke with full effort, attempting to shun the happy tunes from his mind.
A small misty substances - hardly identifiable - procured from his wand, but only to quickly dissipate into the air of the Defense classroom. Hmph! What had he done wrong? "Professor?" Dominic asked suddenly, raising his hand. "Does closing the eyes have any effect on the quality of the happy memory or the result of the incantation?" "It could if it helps you to visualize the memory. However, I do not recommend closing one's eyes for while it may help you cast the charm, that does little to help you if you are busy trying to cast it and your attacker reaches you before you succeed. Remember: constant vigilance. Even when thinking up a happy memory." Kazimeriz said. Quote:

Gripping her wand tightly in her hand, Kayla moved over to the Professor's right. She wondered if she would be the youngest person in the class to be able to produce a corporeal patronus? She had enjoyed watching her bear patronus move around the room.

Thanks! After a substantial amount of practice, Anna had been able to get her lump with wings to transform itself into a clear, animal shape. Anna continued to watch the last patronus she'd casted until it drifted out of sight. How did she know that was the particular shape her patronus would take? She should have known! When she heard Professor Kazimeriz address the class, Anna turned and listened as he gave further directions. Nodding once, she moved away from the little space she'd been practicing in for quite some time and headed to the right of the professor. She still was still unsure as to whether or not her patronus was strong enough to serve its purpose, but at least it had taken a clear form and was able to maintain that shape for a considerable amount of time. Once Anna had secured a spot to the right of the professor, she stood still and quiet, waiting to see what they'd do.

Rian nodded to the professor's instruction's and moved to his left. She was pretty sure that hers was a cat, but she hadn't produced a full-bodied animal for a patronus. She would get there though, she hoped, by the end of class.

Daphne was not happy with this class; she was unable to conjure a patronus. She wondered what her animal would be and what it would reflect on her character. She wasn't even sure if she had actually conjured the floating wisps of light that floated past here. Nevertheless she shuffled over to the left, wanting to move on with this lesson.

Glancing at Ludo for a second as she couldn't recall seeing him produce a corporeal Patronus, she finally moved again, heading to the professor's right. Her eagle may have dissipated when she had panicked about the earlier question, but it had definitely existed.

Why did Helios deserve to be on the right side of the class?
It started with a memory of an event yet to happen. Something that would occur in the near future. And two words: "Expecto patronum!"
As the words echoed in his ears, he wondered what would happen next, until he nearly lost his grip on his wand as it erupted with silver force.
What was at first an amorphous cloud of plasma was carved a horse head, leading the patronus across the room. Then came the stampeding hooves in spectral locomotion.
Finally when the ghostly steed appeared on a collision course with the professor, a pair of feathery wings unfolded from the creatures back, taking it aloft before the patronus disolved into twinkling silver dust. "Woah.."

Thanks! Hannah felt pretty confident in her ability. She'd been able to conjure a real patronus before. She moved to the right of the professor. She hoped she wouldn't get too nervous to be able to do anything now. She concentrated instead on her happy memory: Running through the backyard, holding hands with her brother. It was the first time he'd ever let her play with him; he'd even ditched his friends for her. It was the happiest she'd ever been in her entire life: running wild with her brother, 5 and 7 years old, best friends for life. It was the day they started to bond - a bond that was still as strong as ever. She smiled as she thought about it. She knew it was a strong enough memory. It had, after all, helped her conjure a patronus earlier.

He really wanted to see what the winges creature was, and if it was something different, use his Care of magical creature skills to work it out. Hehe. Miles stood in the right position again and flicked his wand and pointed it at the place where he wanted the patronus to go. "Expecto Patronum!" He yelled, the light appearing from the tip of his wand again and steering to the left this time. Etheral patronus eh? He smirked, and watched as it wings sprouted but it was still a little difficult to see what it was. It looked a little bit like Alan. MAYBE IT WAS AN AUGUREY?!
Convinced that it was, Miles skipped to join the left queue of people who could conjure Ethereal Patronus'. |

Ludo nodded to the Professor at his simple, yet informing reply. It was a very interesting topic, but now was not the time.
He needed to try once more for the corporeal Patronus. He felt confident he could conjur one, he just needed the right memory. He closed his eyes this time and thought back...way back.
He thought of a moment in which he and his older brother and sister were home. They were in the Library, and Kit was reading a very funny story to a very young Ludo and Jaques. A smile fell on the present-day Ludo's face as he said quietly. "Expecto Patronum."
The silver mist issued forth once more, but Ludo felt a power in his wand that wasn't present before. The mist began to move and take shape....and suddenly a silver wolf leaped from the wand. Ludo's eyes shot open as the wolf began to run circles around him. Ludo was stunned.
He walked to the back of the room to the right as the Professor had explained to do. The wolf walked with him to the back until his disappeared in a silver vapor cloud.

Ana moved to the back of the room. She had see for brief moments two paws but that was not enough so she kept trying. "Expecto Patronum" the same happened but now it was the back paws. That looked like a quadruped she thought
Ana was getting even more curious about her Patronus.
Trying to focus really hard in producing a, at least, ethereal patronus she lifted her wand and shouted "Expecto Patronum!" this time something different happened. A tuft of hair, a big one, and Ana could swear that she saw two eyes.
Ana looked around a few more students had joined the left line.
Firmly Ana held her wand, pointing it to the air and making the almost imperceptible movement she yelled "Expectooo Patronummm!" the 4 paws, the tuft of hair, the eyes and now all the body appeared.
A big and majestic lion flew around Ana and then it disappeared. IT'S A LION !! she thought. Extremely happy Ana moved to the left.

Well, the professor hadn't gotten mad or anything, which was a great relief. He was scary!
Shaking her head to clear it, Miranda tried again with the charm. "Expecto Patronum!" she said loud and firmly. Once again the misty formed from her wand and grinned as she remembered the happy thought. "Oh!" Something had wiggled. It was either a gigantic worm or a tail, but it quickly dissapeared after that. Miranda looked around, wondering if anyone had seen that. What was that!?
Anyways, it would probably show itself sooner or later. Hopefully soon.
Miranda listened as Kazimeriz instructed the class and went to stand to his left, wondering who else would stand here. Exciting! |

Remember: constant vigilance. Even when thinking up a happy memory." Kazimeriz said. "Not at all. Often your patronus animal can be very small-- a hummingbird, for instance -- and it does not have less power than a wizard who has a bear for a patronus. What matters, class, is the strength of the memory and the skill with which you cast." Kazimeriz continued to pace the class, watching the students. "Remember the angle of your wand-bearing wrist, and the motion should be small... almost indiscernable to the eye."
After a few more moments, he reached the front of the class, standing between two large trunks which were spaced quite far from each other. "I ask that those who have successfully cast an animal queue up here, to my right. Those who can produce an ethereal patronus, to my left. Those who cannot yet produce a patronus, move to the back of the room and continue to work on your charm and I will come by to assist you once I have given the others their instructions." ooc: Please indicate where your charrie moves -- back of the room, to the left (ethereal patronus), or to the right (corporeal patronus) in your next post. Thanks! Tobi still hadn't managed that all important corporeal patronus. Though he was getting there it was a big thing that he was trying to make out of quite a lot of silver junk...
He sighed and headed over to the left...
Embarrassing much?

| Help us we're a bunch of letters stuck in this box !! Tino noticed, with some dismay, that not a single student was headed towards the back of the room. Well, he was not about to blaze that trail. Life was humiliating enough without being fifteen years old and standing alone beneath the giant flashing sign of 'failure'.
He quietly followed Tobi towards the left. Perhaps if he stood close enough to one of the others, he could 'borrow' some blue mist. Tino felt himself begin to sweat nervously. Fudging a patronus in Kazi's class and suffering a slow death had not been on his 'bucket' list. . .

Sara was still struggling with her patronus, trying to concentrate on her chosen memory. She raised her wand once more.
Expecto Patronus!" She exclaimed loudly, concentrating once more. She watched her wand expectantly waiting for something to appear out of it but nothing. Nothing at all came out of her wand. She sighed in frustration and cursed internally. This is so not fair. She thought as she watched classmate after classmate perform a corporeal patronus. Heck, she didn't even get an ethereal one. Zlich. Nada, Zero.
Sara was getting more and more frustrated each time. Seeing as she was still having problems, decided to move to the back of the classroom alone. She hoped someone else joins her soon. She didn't want to be the only one back here.
She raised her wand once more and kept trying.
