As you enter the DADA classroom, the first thing you might notice is a marked change in the decor. The room is bright and the walls and desks have been charmed to be pink, of all things! Instead of the usual grim and gruesome moving photos on the walls there are large moving posters of frolicking baby animals: unicorns, kneazles, baby ducks and dragons, and on Kazimeriz's chalkboard, a giant poster of a cruppy that keeps grinning and romping about. Balloons and streamers hang from the ceiling; the balloons charmed to glow and light the room in the same way that the flickering candle sconces usually do.
The air is warm and fragrant with smells of baking cookies (just like grandmom's house elf used to make!), rich, sweet cocoa and hints of butterbeer. There is a victrola in the corner playing the song, " My Favourite Things".
Occasionally, the cruppy on the chalkboard romps out of the frameview long enough for you to read the message left by the Professor:
ooc: Please take a seat and feel free to talk a little - not to excess, please! Class will start tomorrow morning and run for about 24 hours or so. Xana~
PS: Don't forget to get your DADA 2 homework in (especially your drawings) and catch some pogrebin! |

| ♪ Golden Badger ♥ clawdia & taylour ♥ Huffie Cappytain ♫ Ugh Miranda chided herself, she really must start to explain things better. Whatever is on her mind usually doesn't come out of her mouth the way she imagined it.
But she was happy for not actually being totally wrong. Snort.
And they were actually going to study patronuses now? How cool!
Miranda concentrated really hard to think of something happy, worth enough for a patronus charm anyways.
She stood up and looked around, watching everyone else practice. Huh. After a while, Miranda thought of something. When she visited her Grandparents for her birthday. That had been a wonderful day. One she wished could come again.
Taking a deep breath, she thought and made the wand movement. She tilted her wand down, made a loopy motion, like an e, e ,e... and said, "Expecto Patronum!", firmly.
There was a wonderful misty something coming from her wand. Miranda grinned and gaped as she saw something like a paw. She bounced in her spot, clearly excited.

| ll Achmed's 2nd Keeper ll Team Jacob l l Otaku ll This is supposed to help us? Sam made another face and stood up, pulling his wand out of his pocket. He imagined the Professor's wand movement again, something he almost never got right, and then focused on his happy memory. Time and time again, the one memory Sam used was winning the Quidditch Cup with Hufflepuff when he first joined the team. He had only played as a reserve, but he still played and he still was proud of his team.
Sam closed his eyes. The music in the background faded away, to be replaced by the roaring crowd and the cool air against Sam's face. He could feel himself grinning like an idiot and he could see the overjoyed looks on his teammates' faces. Then he could see Evy lifted up the Cup. Sam inclined his wand slightly and then twirled his wrist, drawing an 'e' in the air as the Professor had instructed. "Expecto patronum!"
Almost immediately, a silvery form burst forth from the tip of his wand and soared towards the ceiling. It was a falcon, though the shape was slightly translucent.
Sam frowned as his falcon patronus circled the room, concluding that he had messed up the wand work again. His patronus disappered. He lifted his wand and went through the motion again before dropping it. Once again, Sam relived his Quidditch memory and went through the wand motions, more carefully this time. He titled his wand to the right side of his body and curved his wrist round in the 'e' shape. As he moved downward he said loudly, "Expecto patronum." |

Simple. Easy as pie. Consider it done.
Freya had been paranoid enough to practice her patronus charm several times last term in the Room of Requirements, so she already knew what to do pretty much.
She raised her cherry wand and began to think of what made her happiest. There it was again, that long forest path near her old home, but she could hear someone nearby her laughing. The memory was so suddenly vivid that it frightened Freya for a moment. Hollis was standing next to her and walking along the same path, and like he usually did when he was alive, he was laughing, (probably at some joke he'd just made about being feral). Freya could almost feel herself shrugging the boy's antics off when she remembered what was supposed to be going on- "Expecto Patronum!"
It almost sounded like a muffled cannon blast, and a very large silver shape serpentined through the air for a moment before becoming it's true form. Freya's massive saltwater crocodile swam through the air and looped around it's master a few times before snapping at something invisible in the air and instantly going into a death roll to break whatever it had seized apart.
Freya smiled as she looked at it, there wasn't even a hesitation for it to become a crocodile today, which made her very happy.
Though, looking at her patronus again, it did look somewhat larger than usual. The body seemed more muscular and the tail even appeared stronger. 'Probably because the last time I conjured it I was slightly ill. I guess now it's in it's peak.' But that was weird, shouldn't it always...eh, she'd wait and test it out some other time to see if the results were the same.
Freya's crocodile eventually floated over to it's creator and encircled the girl; it's mouth wide open and looking quite menacing. It didn't bother Freya at all though; however she could almost hear the animal hiss. 'It can stay as long as it wants...'. The girl had a small smile on her face as she once again was lost in her pleasant daydream.

It was funny. he was trying so hard and his face was so screwed up with concentration and then all he got was fart vapor. It made her laugh. She walked over to him. She pulled a sugar quill out of her pocket and handed it to him. "Looks like you need this more than I do," She told him with a smile.

Qaz knew this moment was coming for some time now. She'd read about the Patronus Charm and the requirement of a happy memory. This would most certainly be her downfall. Her life hasn't been a happy one or a sad one for that that matter. Her life has just been. Nothing great, nothing horrible.
There were many thing Qaz enjoyed, but really powerful happiness? Maybe if she'd caught that last snitch 4 years ago. Playing with her baby brother? Playing the piano? She hadn't even been out with a boy, yet, so that was out. Maybe something from when her tabby, HiJinx, was a kitten. He certainly did make her laugh. That's about the happiest memory she could come up with....time to give it a try.
Qaz stood up, focused her mind on HiJinx chasing the laserlight beam on the floor...around and around until he got so dizzy that he couldn't walk straight...then she pointed her wand and forcefully said, 'Expecto Patronum' and nothing happened...again, 'Expecto Patronum' NOTHING!
Dejected, Qaz sat down again and tried to come up with a better memory.

Tobi was so perpetually relaxed, he was like jello on Xanax! Seriously. Hadn't he ever been caught off guard by a speeding jackolope, or a falling piano?
The Greek boy puffed out his cheeks and exhaled slowly.
Happy memories. Happeee memorieeeees. Hmmm. . . The kittens on the walls mocked him. A song, uninvited, began playing through Tino's head. It seemed, in this environment, it was inevitable. Girls in white dresses in blue satin sashes,

Qaz was getting depressed because she couldn't think of a really happy memory. There had to be something stashed away in her memories. Maybe a Christmas when she was little. Qaz thought some more.

Trying to focus really hard on the happy memory she said again "Expectro Patronum!... Expectro Patronum!" nothing. Arghhh!
This time Ana focused on The happiest moment with her friends, family and the letter and making the same gentle and e shaped movement she said "Expectro Patronum!" and silver mist with no shape... at all... came out of her wand. That's some progress! she thought "Expectro Patronum" and the same silver mist appeared.
Ana closed her eyes seeing those happy moments passing like in a muggle movie and trying to direct her energy to her wand she said "Expectro Patronum" and the silver mist came out again but this time 2 paws were perceptible for a few moments. Yeahhh! i did it! i dit! it was not a full patronus but for a firstie was good

Lasca gave the wand movement a couple practice tries while trying to think of a happy memory. She thought of the day she had bought her cute mischieveious kitten Tundra, and how he had rhomped around Diagon Alley. Taking a deep breath she focused on the memory and, "Expecto Patronum!"
A wisp of white smoke shot from her wand and dissipated quickly. Not strong enough. She thought of other memories but none of them seemed strong enough. That afternoon she had spent with Mariel in Diagon Alley. The day her letter had come in. None of them seemed adequate but she gave them a try anyhow. "Expecto Patronum!" *Wisps of smoke* "Expecto Patronum!" Something took shape but disappeared before it was recognizable. "Expecto Patronum!" Nothing...
With a huff Lasca leaned back and continued to sift through her memories, there had to be something.

| Baht-ley - The Sweetest - TEAM 947! Melanie listened to the professor with interest scrawling down notes rapidly so she could practice later. Melanie felt a smile growing on her face. Patronuses sounded reeeeally advanced, like magic she had never dreamed of doing , like ever.
Okay she had dreamed of it before, she had dreamed of pretty much everything, but still it was pretty dang exciting! So exciting in fact that she was almost hopping up and down in her chair. Slowly but surely she convinced herself to calm down, at leas ton the outside.
Melanie swished her wand around a few times as she practiced the wand movement until she was content. Then she decided to take a stab at the incantation without the memory of wand movement. "Expecto Patoenum!" she attempted (and failed I might add). Please tell me I did NOT just stay pat-toe-num she thought, giggling a bit at her own mistake. "Expectum Patronum." Uhhh yeah... She did it wrong yet again. Melanie frowned slightly, biting her lip. How in the world was she supposed to get a spell right if she couldn't even say the incantation.
No Hope. Sooo Melanie decided to try yet again. "Expecto Patronum." she said, her face lighting up with happiness as she said it right. Melanie said the word a few more times before she tried the actual spell: memory and all.
But, firstly she needed a memory... And a reeeally happy one too. Melanie thought hard about it and choose one of her favorite memories. When she got her letter. Melanie concentrated hard on the memory...
She remembered how she had been sitting on the faded tan sofa in the living room of her family's apartment, flipping boredly through the TV channels on the small screen sitting in front of her. She remembered how the mailman had came and slipped a single letter through the note... Since her brother had been sleeping in a recliner she stepped over to the door to pick it up so her father wouldn't step on it as he walked into the door much later that night. After tripping over a few things including her cat, who had decided to chacse after the letter which was, well, dissapointingly immobile. Melanie had picked it up and she was stunned speechless by what it said. It was just- It was too good to be true. She didn't believe a word at first, but slowly as she let it sink in she did... And here she was.
"Expecto patronum!" she said, once completely immersed in the memory of the reason she got here to Hogwarts. Melanie waved her wand in the swishing movement that had been instructed as well.
Nothing. Nothing happened at all. Disappointed, Melanie paced back and forth as she searched her mind for a brighter memory. |

Anna watched Professor Kazimeriz as he paced the floor. She was hanging on to everything he was saying, as the Patronus Charm had always been quite the interesting topic as far as she was concerned. To Anna, successfully casting a patronus was one thing, but determing what shape or form that patronus would take...and why...was something else entirely. The thought of what shape or form her patronus would take intrigued her, so much that she often caught herself daydreaming about it. She wasn't daydreaming now, though. She would soon attempt a real Patronus Charm. It probably wouldn't be too strong, and Anna wasn't sure if it'd even take a certain right now, but at least she was getting closer to figuring out the mystery of her potential patronus.
Anna lifted her wand, but kept it still while she listened to Professor Kazimeriz give instructions. When she was ready to begin, Anna tilted her wand to a slight angle to a position a few feet in front of her. She then made a sort of loop shape with it, studying the wand as it made what resembled a little letter e. As soon as her wand scooped down, Anna called out, "Expecto Patronum!" There was nothing, though. No sign of a rabbit, butterfly, cheetah, or stag. No sign of the qilin Professor Kazimeriz had casted.
With determination, Anna tried again and again. The "nothingness" her wand had casted before soon developed into a silvery mist, followed by a lumpy little shape. Anna sure hoped that lumpy little shape was her patronus taking shape. Once again, Anna lifted her wand, watching as she repeated the same steps she'd done many times before. "Expecto Patronum!" she called out. This time, a little animal appeared. Anna couldn't make out what the animal was, but she could tell that it was one that could fly. Even though the body of the animal was a blob, the wings were clear. With a smile on her face, Anna watched as the blob flapped its wings and flew away.

Ludo stood with the rest of the class to attempt the Charm. The Professor had made it look so easy. From his brother's mentionings, this spell was anything but.
He twiddled his wand in his hands for a moment as he pondered. Several happy memories came to him. He focused on one of him and Liz walking during the winter...
"Expecto Patronum." he stated with a flourish of wand. A steady wisp of silver magic flew from his wand. It wasn't much, but it was something.
He broke his concentration to think of a second memory involving him and his older siblings. But then the thought of Professor Kazimeriz's Patronus filled his head. Had he seen this before? And then it hit him.
Ludo raised his hand, "Professor? Sir? If you don't mind me asking, I know this is a difficult subject. But were you the one that sent a Patronus to the Headmaster the day the Hufflepuff boy was attacked in the Library?"

Rian stared determinedly at her wand. She was curious to what her patronus would be...but she wasn't sure if she'd be able to think of a memory happy enough to produce a full, animal-shaped patronus. She searched her memories, trying to find a very, very happy one. Immediately she thought of a few, all having to do with Sneeze. That fact made her blush, but at least she had a happy memory.
Taking a deep breath, she raised her wand. "Expecto Patronum!" she ordered, staring with wide eyes at her wand. A faint, silver mist came from the tip. With a small groan, Rian thought again about a memory. Another one came, and she took another slow breath. "Expecto PATRONUM!" she exclaimed, and more mist erupted from her wand. Except this time it started forming into a shape. It got as far as transforming into a feline's head, then it dissolved. Well, it was more than she expected, at least.

Qaz wondered if a dream would sork as good as reality. There was one in particular. She was at the piano, on stage, in a huge concert hall, with tons of people and she was playing 'The Warsaw Piano Concert' PERFECTLY.
It was a dream...but it was fantastic. Right. Just get that feeling again.
Qaz stood up, closed her eyes for a few moments and let the concerto play through her mind. She opened her eyes, raised her hand and 'Expecto Patronum!' A small wisp came out of the end of her wand. The shock knocked the music from her head and the wisp was gone. 'WOW! It did something.' Qaz needed to rest for a moment, though. That's really hard work.

Daniel stood up and wondered. He had happy memories from his younger years when his family was still intact. But what was the best one to chose?
The trip to Romania's Dragon Institute and seeing the dragons? No that wasn't enough. he thought.
The first trip to the Ministry of Magic of Romania. Hmmm, that was fun and tiring not enough. he said.
I think this is it... My first broom ride.
He concentrate his thought on the feeling. The feeling of freedom, of solitude. Alongside his father, the wind brushing his face and carressing his hair. That was the best.
He then yelled, "EXPECTO PATRONUM". All of a sudden an eagle came soaring high above then and swiftly diving then rising up again. A great feeling of happiness sweep over him as he watch the eagle hover above him.

Huh. Alright. The incantation sounded simple enough, compared to the one taught to prune the silly flutterbys on Bunbury's class, a spell she never got, by the way.
She was looking at the rest and couldn't even think of a happy memory to begin with...even Miranda was having something misty-like coming out of her wand, but it was easy for her, she was always happy, wasn't she?
So, thinking, thinking, and...she remembered...the day she got the letter saying she was Captain for the Huffie Quidditch team. That should do it, right? At which point, "Expecto Patronum!" she said, holding her wand firmly...and...and...
A silvery mist came out of her wand, and a smile was on her face...but as easy and quick as it came out, it vanished. "What? Really?" she was speaking to her wand for sure. Kaika couldn't remember anything that could be happier than that...except...sure, she loved Romania, and when her uncle took her to check out some dragons she was ecstatic about that...so, she tried the spell one more time, remembering that day..."Expecto Patronum!" and the silvery mist came out quite quickly and stronger, only a silhouette of some animal was capable to make its way between the silver...
Maybe if she combined the memory of Romania with the one of petting the dragon in the CoMC class, her Patronus will be stronger...

How was he supposed to be focusing with that song ... girls in white dresses playing?!
Pfft. As if this cheerful atmosphere would help him stimulate some happy memories. He wasn't feminine and contrary to popular belief, he really did not like the color pink.
Happy memory. Happy memory. Only thing that came to mind was a certain recent incident in the Broom Cupboard and a brief sentence, 'I want to hold your hand'. Focusing his energy all on that one line, the fifth year raised his wand and closed his eyes. "Expecto patronum!" Dominic spoke with full effort, attempting to shun the happy tunes from his mind.
A small misty substances - hardly identifiable - procured from his wand, but only to quickly dissipate into the air of the Defense classroom. Hmph! What had he done wrong? "Professor?" Dominic asked suddenly, raising his hand. "Does closing the eyes have any effect on the quality of the happy memory or the result of the incantation?"

| JGL ♥ | Wifey + SexyCPR = RAWR. | Co-Inceptor♥ | CHLOCHLO! | Rollie = My Ship Miles was fairly excited about seeing what his Patronus looked like. He'd never tried this charm before and he hoped to be suprised. What animal could possibly represent him? Hehe.
He straightened his back, and moved his wand in the way that the professor had explained. Tilting it down to a slight angle toward the area you wish to cast. Then loop your wand, drawing an almost imperceptible 'e' shape. And on the downward motion, you cast.
Yeaaah. Miles could do this! "Expecto Patronum!" He pointed his wand in the right direction and a large spurt of light came out of his wand. He couldn't really make out what it was, it looked a little a winged creature. Hmmm. As the light died down, Miles stood in the same position and began trying some more. |

After she had rested a bit, Qaz got up to try again. This time she would pay closer attention to the wand movement. She stood with her eyes closed, remembering the dream she had about playing the piano in a huge concert hall. Every note of the Warsaw Piano Concerto was perfect. The audience loved her. What bliss!
She opened her eyes, held her wand at a slightly downward angle, making a tiny letter e, clearly spoke, 'Expecto Patronum!' Keeping the concert firmly in her mind, she watched as a wisp came out of the tip of her wand and grew larger and brighter. This time it lasted for several seconds, but there was no shape to it. 'Much better,' she mumbled to herself. 'One more time.'
Qaz closed her eyes again, the concert playing through in her mind. What joy to be able to play like that. The audience was cheering wildly.
Again, she opened her eyes, held her wand at a slightly downward angle, made the e motion, and clearly spoke, 'Expecto Patronum!' Hearing the applause in her mind, she watched as a wisp came out of the tip of her wand once again. As before, it grew larger and brighter. She could see that it was attempting to take shape, but she just didn't have the energy to make it last.
Exhausted, she sat back down to rest. Where on earth do they find the strength to maintain a Patronus for any real length of time, she wondered. Holding it for even a few seconds drained her.
