Library Book Club *Madame Rowena bustles over to a deserted section of the library and smiles at the assembled students who are standing by the fireplace. She pulls out her wand and soon numerous puffy arm chairs are arranged in a circle. She sits down setting down her load of books next to her chair and the students do the same* "I am happy to see that so many of you have returned to the book club. I'm sure all you know the guidelines but here they are again for a refresher: 1. New members do not need to ask whether they can join or not. Just sit down and give us a review or recommendation of your favorite book that all of us should read. Providing pictures of the covers or your own personal experiences that you have had with the book is a great addition to add to you review. 2. We will all take turns around the circle and give recommended readings for the week and we'll just compile a continuous list of all the books mentioned here by the quick-quill I have set up. Well, those are the things I wanted to cover. Now, is there anyone who would like to go first in the circle? This is strictly on a voluntary basis and if you do not feel comfortable speaking, no worries, because there is bound to be someone who does." *Madame Rowena scans the circle and sees a hand up into the air* "How about you? It looks like you are eager to start out session." she states cheerfully. *The circle draws their attention to the student who has raised their hand* |
I'm Kyia and I just finished reading Ghost Wolf, by Rachel Roberts. It is the third book in the Avalon: Quest for Magic sequence. All the books in the sequence have great plots and continue the stories of the characters established by Rachel Roberts in the Avalon: Web of Magic seqeunce. Ghost Wolf centers on the charcter of Adriane, a young mage who lives in Pennsylvania along with her friends Kara and Emily. Adriane is a warrior mage and Ghost Wolf focuses on her journey to save her friends from impending evil and to become a level two mage. Adriane's long lost friend- Stormbringer returns as a member of the mistwolf spirit pack and the charcter of Dreamer plays a vital role in aiding Adriane on her quest for magic. Also the charcter of Zachariah returns and we continue to see a developing relationship between him and Adriane. Adriane and friends manage to save their world from evil forces once again and Adriane becomes a level two mage by the end of Ghost Wolf. I highly recommend this novel and the entire series which focuses on friendship strengthening magic. :sorcerer: |

Hi. I'm Anelreas and I'm currently reading Doctor Illuminatus by Martin Booth. It's about alchemy. I've got about thirty pages left, but so far it's a most excellent book. Since I'm not too good about summaries, I'll just type up what it says on the inside of the book. :) "Real Magic is Dangerous Magic... in this modern-day battle against the dark side of ancient alchemy ... When siblings Pip and Tim move with their parents to an old English country estate and hear a strange knocking from within the walls of the ancient home, they can hardly believe their eyes. A mysterious boy named Sebastian, the son of a medieval alchemist, emerges and claims that he has been asleep for nearly six hundred years. Sebastian reveals that they are in danger: His father's bitter enemy, de Loudeac, has also awakened from a centuries-long slumber and is determind to use the secrets of alchemy to evil ends. Soon, Pip and Tim find themselves entandled in a web of intrigue, sorcery, and horror as they join Sebastian in his quest to foil de Loudeac's villainous scheme. But can the madmae be stopped? Enhanced by chants, herbs, and potions drawn from real texts, here is a tale of high action and history, science and magic, certain to cast an irrestible spell." It's a bloody good book and you get sucked into the history of the story and it's hard to get out. And, for those who want a bit of horror to their books, this book definitely has it. When de Loudeac needs items from someone for a spell, he goes after them and takes it. One way or another. |
It is wonderful to see so many fresh-faces. Some books I would suggest are: Dubliners, by James Joyce. An amazing collection of short stories of citizens of Dublin. One of my very favorites as the stories progresses as each of the stories shows a character in a different phase of their life. http://images.amazon.com/images/P/01...CMZZZZZZZ_.jpg A Wrinkle in Time-which is one of my favorite science fiction novels. L'Engle has created endearing characters and there are many more stories that follow this one. A exciting tale of time distortions and other worlds as Meg is in search of her father. http://images.amazon.com/images/P/04...CMZZZZZZZ_.jpg Ella Enchanted-by Gail Carson Levine. The very popular movie, but an even better book! A twist on the classic Cinderella tale but the difference being is that this Cinderella is fiery and determined making her the ultimate cinderella heroine. http://images.amazon.com/images/P/00...CMZZZZZZZ_.jpg |
"I throughly agree TrixiePixie, the movie just does not do the book justice. There is such an amazing world created in the novel, filled with magical quests and balls. I felt the movie just did on encapsulate that," states Madame Rowena. |
I know a really good book" kasandra said "its called the Golden Compass. its the first book of a triogy.its a about a girl who has to go to the north and its set in a different world than ours." |
originally posted by MadameRowena: A Wrinkle in Time-which is one of my favorite science fiction novels. L'Engle has created endearing characters and there are many more stories that follow this one. A exciting tale of time distortions and other worlds as Meg is in search of her father. I love A Wrinkle in Time and have read some of the other books written by Madeline L'Engle. They are really fascinating books. |

'I read the book A Wrinkle in Time, but that was such a long time ago' 'I also read The Golden Compass which is also a very interesting read' |
i have read many a book and i can tell you I've got a load of them. my favorite right now is the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. |
I have to reccomend my absolute favorite book of all time: The Deed of Paksenarrion, by Elizabeth Moon. (It is actually three books of a series that were published in one volume.) It follows the life of Paksenarrion Dorthansdotter. From her near wedding to a man she does not love to her adventures and loses as a member of a mercenary company and training to be a Paladin to her struggles to find what honor and faith mean to her. It is a world of high fantasy that is not to be missed. You will laugh, cry and cheer as you genuinely come to love and respect Paks and all of her friends, be they dwarf, elf or human. 5/5- My highest reccomendation. |
'The Golden Compass', I must really check that one out. It sounds wonderful. My name is Jen, and I have a book to recommend. The book is called 'Out of the Ordinary' by Annie Dalton. It is about a girl named Molly, who believes she is nothing but ordinary. Her advertisement for a summer job turns into something of another world. Turning her world far from ordinary. |
I'm Roma! My favorite book has to be The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. It was an amazing book with true facts. I was astounded by all the things I learned from that book! But the book that comes before it in the series is amazing also. It's Angels & Demons. Also an outstanding book with facts I never knew. I recommend both of these books to everyone. They really were amazing books. |
"I'm Jade and I've just finished reading this book called Fat Chance which was written by Leslea Newman. This book is about a 13 year old girl, Judi, who believes she's fat. She becomes friends with the extremely skinny popular girl, Nancy, who she finds out is belimic. Judi uses this newfound "weapon" of belimia to try a lose weight. Then one day, Judi finds Nancy knocked out in the bathroom, covered in puke. Nancy ends up hospitalized and Judi starts to fear that her weight fighting solution could kill her, but she can't stop. My Personnal Experience Related to This Book- I was unhappy with my weight and was thinking off using puking or "fasting" as the answer, but once I read this book and saw how frightening this could be I stopped thinking about it. I joined more sports clubs and eat less, but not nothing. Why I recommend it- This book gives girls a real insight to the consequences of belimia and anorexia. It shows how much influence the images we see on t.v. or magazines or on advertisments. This book truely shows a teenage girls struggle and it is truely inspirational." |
"um...well.. My name is Malkie and i um read like he Red Tent and it was awesome. Its about biblical times in the tents of Jacob, Leah, and Rachel but it also tells of the other women in the red tent. The main focus is on the only daughter of Jacobs wives called Dinah. Her brothers form the twelve tribes of Israel and start Judaism. I recommend it because I personally enjoyed a different look on ancient Judaism and the women. It was very imformative with a great plot. It gave me new found respect for women i once thought of as "Jacobs Wives" http://images.google.com/images?q=tb...ent%2520HC.jpg |
I'm Lily and I read Inkheart, its by Cornelia Funke. Its really, really, really good. There's this book called Inkheart in the book, and 2 of the people in the book can make people come out of books when they read them aloud. I really, really, really liked it. |
My name is Jen and I'm in the middle of reading Angels & Demons for the second time. It combines historical fact with modern fiction and is very intriguing. While I don't particularly like the plot, there are several statements that the author, Dan Brown, makes that I find very thought-provoking. It provides new insight into age old legends and makes for a fast-paced and enjoyable read. |
My name is Lara, and I just finished reading Pirates by Ceila Rees. It is now officially one of my favorite books of all time. It has action, adventure, and even a bit of romance! I fully recommend it to anyone who enjoys being at the edge of their seat. It's a definite page turner. Long story short, Nancy, the daughter of a wealthy merchant, is sent to live on a plantation in Jamacia after her father dies. When she finds out that she is supposed to marry an old and mysterious but very rich Brazilian ex-pirate, she runs away with a slave named Minerva. They become pirates or as they say in the book 'go on the account' and it tells of their adventures. All the while Nancy is waiting for the chance to see the guy she loves who is on the opposite side of the law from her (being in the english Navy). I shan't say any more because it will ruin the plot...but it is definitely worth reading!! |
Hi i'm Sarah and I'm reading Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. It is about a girl named Melinda who goes to a party over the summer and gets drunk and than Raped. it is a really good book it goes through Melinda's life in her perspictive and how she deals with lossing her best friends all because she called the cops after the rape. I would recomend it to anyone who is 14 or older because of language. |
"Hi Im Emily and well i just finished reading a series of 15 books(yes thats correct its not a mistype) If you like romance then you would love these books, the series is called the Brides of Montclair series. It starts off with a book called Valient Bride where a young girl must marry her cousins sutor because she eloped with a french man. The series goes through the World War one and the Civil War, one of the books it even goes through the sinking of the Titanic. If you like romance books and even a bit of action adventure you would love these books. I thought they were very entertaining." |
"Hi peoples, I'm Elena, and if you like HP type stuff(which you should if you're reading this), the Inheritance Trilogy, by Christopher Paolini, which as of yet contains Eragon and Eldest, is for you. It's about dragons, and an evil king, but that's all I'll tell you for the moment." |
my name is Hermione rocks!,and I have read all the books so far in A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS |
Hi my name is Pauline and i have just finished reading Black Like Me by john Howard Griffin. It takes place in the 1960's in the southern united states. it is durning the Civil rights movement. |
"I'm Emma, and I highly recommend some of the Charlie Bone books by Jenny Nimmo. Funnily enough, they're very similar to our Hogwarts customs." Emma said, crinkling her nose in amusement. |
My name is Demelza and I think that Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman is a really good book, and Knife Edge and Checkmate which are the next two books in the trilogy. They deal with racial issues such as does being one colour make you better than the other? It really affected me and was such a great storyline, I definately recommend you read them, I even cried at the end! |
My name is Meghan and the book that is one of my new favorites is called A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. Its about a girl named Gemma Doyle who goes to Spence Acadamy in London. She is about 16 years old. And this book takes place a long time ago i would say late 1800's. While she is there she realizes that she gets visions and can travel into another relm. It talks about her and her friends adventures there and the people who are trying to stop them with their task at hand. It is an incredibly good book and i would recomend it to anyone. I would also recomend the sequal which is Rebel Angels which just takes off were the other one ends. They are both very good. And Libba Bray is an extremly talented writer. They are long though...(not as long as HP of course) but they are totally worth it. There is never a dull moment through any of them. |
My name is Serilda Callighan and I'd like to recommend And Then There Were None by Agatha Christe. It's a fantastic, short, quick read of a book that's filled with of mystery and murder as 10 strangers are brought together by one common thing: each recieved a letter from a mysterious man to come and visit him and his wife (for various reasons) on their island home and spend the weekend. After all 10 visitors arrive by boat on an island (named Indian Island due to it's shape of that of an Indian (Native American's) head, the sender of the letters turns out to be someone among the strangers who has become the judge, jury and executioner of the group and they are all condemned. With no escape, through out the weekend, the guests begin to die off one at a time. Each death is carried out in a manner similar to that of the dismal nursery song 'Ten Little Indian Boys' which ten indians are killed by terrible means. We, as the reader, learn that none of the strangers on the island are completely trustworthy, or are good, or innocent; the end has a spectacular twist I think a whole bunch of you will enjoy. |
Hello, my name is Valera. I recommend a book by Alice Hoffman, "Practical Magic". The story is about The Owens women have been witches for several generations. Sally and her younger sister Gillian Owens, raised by their spinster aunts in a spooky old house, grow up observing desperate women buying love potions in the kitchen and vow will never ever fall in love. But when Sally grows up, she marries, has two daughters and is widowed early. Gillian however goes through series of divorces before she arrives at Sally's house with a dead body in her car and changes Sally's boring, stable life while Gillian's naughty life changes to a more stable one. Meanwhile they are haunted by the evil spirit of Jimmy, threatening to destroy their life. The story combines the series of suspense, sand and happy at the same time. It is so beautifully written with an edge of suspense and just a bit of magic. Perhaps for readers 13 and over. http://www.bookreporter.com/art/cove...0425168468.jpg |
"I agree with both Emma and Hermione rocks. The Series of Unfortunate Events Series and the Charlie Bone books are great. The Chronicles of Narnia are also very good even though they are very old. The Lord of the Rings books are very good, as are the movies. There is this other book that I have read at least five times- I own it, and like it very much, but I can't seem to remember the name. It involves the wizarding world. It isn't a series. I wish I could remember the title. I will send an owl to my parents and have them look for it for me. I think you would enjoy it. ooc: I am at my grama's house, but when I go back home in a few days, I will check and post the book title. |
"Hi everyone. I'm Aurore. I'm...umm...reading a book called Quicksilver. I found it extremely interesting. I also agree with Jen on Angels and Demons. I also found it very "thought provocing" as well." |
Hi everyone. My name is Brenda and I have recently finished reading The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants. I have read all three of those books. I recomend the book to everyone but mostly girls. These books are my favorite books. I can read them like 500 times withought getting tired. I think you guys should really read them. I also agree with MadameRowena on Ella Enchanted. That book was also very amazing to me. |
"Hey, I'm Eunice. I recently read Quidditch Through the Ages. It's really interesting! It tells about the whole history of Quidditch, how it developed over the course of time, and different plays. It also describes the national teams that compete for the Quidditch World Cup. I read about one of my ancestors, Eunice Murray (who I'm names after), who was a star seeker for the Magpies national team. This book is a must-read for every witch or wizard interested in Quidditch, which I'm sure is everyone here!" |
"Hello, I'm Kalaya. I have a few books to recommend. I suggest: Eragon and the sequal Eldest by Christopher Paolino The Prophecy of the Stones by Flavia Bujor Inkheart and its sequal Inkspell by Cornelia Funke. The Two Princesses of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine. I also enjoyed many of the other books suggested such as The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants The Series of Unfourtunate Events And the Charlie Bone books. I'm sure I'll be back with more suggestions seeing as how I almost always have my nose in a book of somesort." |
Hello, my name is Rachel and I absolutely adore reading. I have a few books I would like to suggest to reading...... The Spiderwick Chronicles by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black. Tell No One Who You Are by Walter Buchignani Freaky Friday by Mary Rodgers More to come...... |
"Wizard's First Rule" Emma said "That's the name of the book I'm currently reading. Yes I haven't exactly finished it yet, I still have 500 pages to go... And 11 books... But it's such a good book that I couldn't wait to propose it to you all. Summary: Richard and Kahlan come from two seperate places, the Westland and the Midlands, as soon as they meet, they realise that they are both in grave danger. The boundary that seperates there lands is fading and will collapse in no more than 6 weeks! Together they must travel to the midlands and stop Darken Rahl, a man of pure evil. They set to the long quest together with there friends Chase and Zedd who will help them along the way. They must beat Darken Rahl to what he seeks or the whole world is in great danger! I can't tell you more, or it'll ruin the first 100 pages of the story... Pages: 850 books: 12 and more comming rating 4/5 amount of magic: lots Who do I suggest it to: Everybody who likes Magic or adventure. Type: Fiction and a tiny bit of romance! I hope you will all enjoy the book!" |
"Yes, I said I'd have more and now I have another! The book I am reading is called A Mango-Shaped Space bt Wendy Mass. It is about a girl (Mia) of 13 who sees colors when she sees a number or letter and also sees colors for sounds. She has kept it a secret her whole life when some events occur that cause her to have reveal her secret. This is about her and her journey of learning about herself (ooc: yes this is basically off the back!). Its very very good, I'm hooked and I'm only on page 87-actually I was hooked after page 1- and there are 218 pages!" |
"Ok I am going to say another one, if thats ok. The book is called, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith. This is about a girl named Francie Nolan who lives in, well, Brooklyn. In the early 1900's. It talks about her life with her mom, dad, and brother Neely (his real name is Brooklynese). They are an extremly poor family who can barely get by on what they have and it just talks about how life was than. And how they survived through everything. I think most girls will like this book because it is about a GIRL growing up and all the hardships women face today but set back then. This book taught me to be grateful for what I have and how lucky I am to have food on the table every day. I would strongly recomend this book." Meghan nodded her head to show that she was done and the next person who wanted to speak could. |
Hello, my name is Taylor and I'm reading a book called HOMECOMING. It is about 4 kids who are really poor. They got kicked out of their house, so their mom is taking all of them to live with their Great Aunt Cilla because she is rich. Aunt Cillias house is in Bridgeport, Conn. The mom abandons the kids in a mall parking lot. The four children must journey to Bridgeport with only seven dollars. Thats about all i can tell you, but its a really good book. |
I recomend Charlie and the great glass elevator. It's after charlie and the chocolate factory. Charlie has much to learn. There's sweets that make people younger. There's even two great glass elevators. Grandma Josephine (I think it's her) get's trapped in the land of minuses. How does Charlie get in, AND even if he get's in, how does he and Josephine get out of there? Find out in Charlie and the great glass elevator! I's so great! I don't belive they haven't made a movie of it! It's a 5/5 for sure! |
Yurio was slowly working up the courage to say something infront of all these people and finally managed to cinvince himself to. "Uh, I'd recomend Catholite's War by an unknown author. Its about a girl named Airia who's home is destroyed by a band of five warriors. This group of warriors take Airia for they know she has rare powers although she herself does not know. There is a preist amung the group who preforms a ritual to make Airia forget her past. Airia has allies who make her remember but she does belive untill she is taken into the hands of Pandora, the goddess of light. The warriors have been working hard to make a portal that will take them into the future so that there they can bring Catholite, the god of darkness, back from the dead. Airia is soon on the run for revenge, but also to stop the unleashing of an evil that the world has known only once before, but the world that Airia is now in does not remember for this evil was millions of years before their time." Yurio stopped to catch his breath. "Its a great story, although its written by a muggle and his view of magic is not very correct its still a fantastic book." |
After no one had said anything for a few minutes Meghan raised her hand again, "Um, The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. This is about an old man who reminisces back to when he was thirty-one. His name is Noah Calhoun. He is still in love with a girl he lost 10 years before. And this very same girl, named Allie Nelson, is about to get married to a very wealthy lawyer, yet she can't stop thinking about Noah. This begins one of the greatest love stories of all time. It really is extremly good. And I think alot of people would like it." Meghan leaned back as she allowed the next person to go. It got easier to speak in front of this group the more she did it. |
"Um...I've just finished reading a book by Arthur Golden called Memoirs of a Geisha. It was really good to read, I was skeptical at first though but after reading the first chapter I couldn't put it down. It is one I would definately recommend." Sophie said as she then went a bright shade of crimson and remained quiet. |
Jessica made her way to the Library Book Club and sat down, her red hair hangng openly down her waist, while the gold streaks in front swayed with each step she took. It was hardly ten minutes before her turn came, but even then it seemed like an eternity. She cleared her throat (Hem Hem! ;)), and began: "I would advise everyone to read is: The Count of Monte Cristo http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...ica/Writer.jpg "It is a superb book, perfectly detailed, with excellent use of imagery and idioms. TThe write, by the name Alexandre Dumas, has done a very worthy job, and manages to entice readers, and keep them glued to the pages till the very end. Taking us back in time, it is an excellent book, in every respect. Each and every action is described with such zeal, and so beautifully, that one can't close the book. I'd rate it 4/5 - Exceeds Expectations." She stopped, not having anything else to say. She'd probably bomb if she went on. |
Shan raised his hand, and began: “If old really is gold, I’d advise Charles Dickens Nicholas Nickleby. It highlights the cruel treatment towards children in olden times, and has some very useful lessons to impart. Go for it, is all I wish to say.” |
Quote:
I also finished reading ''speak'' and i agree it's a wonderful book. I also want to recommend a book which is called ''Brighton Beach Memoirs'', it is a very funny book and it circle's around family life and growing up. There's one more book, it is called ''Dr.Jekyll and Mr. Hyde'', i want to recommend it because i found its good and evil theme very interesting. When u will read it u would know what i m talking about but it's not a boring book and it is full of suspense. |
Amber timidly spoke. "I - I'm Amber Fields. I'm a first year and I have just finished reading a book, entitled Ingo. It's the first in a new trilogy, and I'm waiting for the other books to be released. Ingo is about a girl and her brother, who live by the sea with their mother and father. For hundreds of years, there has been talk of an evil mermaid luring a well-loved and -known man into the ocean. It is a strange coincidence that the brother and sister's father has the same name as that man. Both brother and sister are plunged headfirst into a new world of adventure, a dangerous world, after a traumatic event occurs." Amber finished, then proceeded to blush heavily. |
Hermy looked up at everyone gathered, and stood gathering her confidence. "Hi, I'm Hermy," she announced. "I've just finished The Magician's Guild (or Black Magician) Trilogy by Trudi Canavan. It starts by contrasting the issue of people in slums and those who are priviledged, but develops into a series that combats many issues relevant to today - betrayal, trust, relationships, teamwork. The story starts slowly, but builds up to a thrilling last book. It is difficult to explain the plot without spoiling anything, but the book is set is mystical lands where Magicians are considered highly by the rich, but are hated by the poor due to the annual Purge - where the King expects the magicians guild to remove people off of the streets in the slums and the poor cant do anything to save themselves. However, one day during the Purge, Sonea throws a stone at the protective shield of the magicians with some of her mates. Unlike the other stones, however, hers breaks the barrier and reveals that she has magicial potential. The first book follows her on the run as her powers develop without control." She looked around her, pausing for a moment. |
Megan took a deep breath and started her review..."Hi, my names Megan and I have just read the book 'Tricksters Choice' This is a book about a girl and there is a war going on..she's like 16 and she decodes stuff for her father..her mother thinks she should be working and definatly be pregnate and married like all the other girls her age...but she wants to be a spy..her dad knows how good she is at spying but he won't let his daughter get hurt..I have only read the 1st one but there are 2 or 3...so yea I would definatly read it!" she ended not as nervous as she began.. http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...e/CA4P2FAB.jpg |
Meghan found her way back to the Book Club. She waited until everyone was done before saying," Hello everyone, my name is Meghan Champ and I am a second year." She paused before continuing. "I recently read a great book called, 'To Kill A Mockingbird'. It is about a girl named Scout and her brother Jem. They are both very young. It is about them growing up in Alabama in the 1950's when racism is still very much alive. It is also about their father named Atticus. He is a white lawyer who deals with alot of harrassment because he is trying to defend a black, he is trying to do what is right. This is a wonderful book that deals with many issues. The main one being racism. One of the main things I like about this book is it is based on actual historical events (the Scottsboro Trials). Another thing I liked was it made me really think." Meghan leaned back and looked to the person sitting next to her waiting for them to speak up. |
Joanna walked into the library and saw the club. "Hello all, I'm Joanna Matthews. I recently read a book called October Sky about a young Homer Hickam (author) who lives in Coalwood, West Virgina, USA, a town used for the sole purpose of mining. He and friends have no way out of being miners like their fathers and grandfathers, until the launch of Sputnik, the Russian spacecraft, encouging them to be astronauts and start the Rockey Boys (the book's oringinal title). It's a wonderful true story of growing up and achieving goals. I recommend it to anyone." Joanna paused nervously looking at the faces of the people around her. "Meghan, I've read To Kill A Mockingbird. What's your favorite part?" Joanna finished, contemplating what just happened. |
VeeZay sat there, listening to everyone present before she raised her own hand at long long last. "I'd simply advise everyone to get down with Dickens," she said with a smile. "Canons and morals may seem dry, but they help a lot i nthe long run. Dickens' "David Copperfield" for instance in an amazing work, a true literary masterpiece, which describes the life of youn David, an orphan, deprived slowlyo f his mother's love after his father's death, by his inhuman step-father Mr. M<urdstone ,and his cruel sister. After his mother's death, he is sent to work in unsuitable conditions, and from then on, David learns to face difficulties boldly, with which his life seems punctuated. it's a perfect novel, and I seriously wish you would all read it. Thanks." She lowered her hand, smiled again, brushed away her dark black hair, and gave her twin Shan an intoxicating smile. |
Meghan turned when she was adressed to and said, "Hmm my favorite part had to have been when Atticus was standing watch outside the courthouse and the mob showed up, and somehow Scout knew what to say to make them leave. It just showed me that you don't need to use violence to solve a problem. What was yours?" She asked happy that someone else had read the same book. |
Joanna lit up as she spoke with Meghan. "I love that part! I'd have to say my favorite part is when her teacher tells her she needs to have her daddy stop teaching her how to read." Joanna returned Meghan's smile. |
well, I'm in the middle of children of the lamp! It's very magical and VERY original! |
Meghan smiled when Joanna smiled at her. She agreed she liked that part to. She figured she would say another book that she had just finished. "I just finished a Book called 'Summer of my German Soldier' by Bette Greene. This book takes place during World War II. It is about a girl named Patty Bergen who is 12 years old. She lived in Arkansas near a camp housing German prisoners. She is Jewish but when a Nazi escapes from camp she decides to keep him safe. She is willing to risk losing family, friends, even her freedom for this man." Meghan nodded to show she was done. |
I'm Serilda and I highly recommend Angels and Demons by Dan Brown if you're into thrillers, conspiracy and science. The novel is about a religious symbolism professor from Harvard who is called by a mysterious stranger to help solve the gruesome murder of a prestigious physicist/priest/psycologist, who is on the brink of making a breakthrough in physics and religion. Travelling throughout Europe, the novel spirals into a terroristic plot of the threat of the destruction of the Vatican City and the death of several millions of people. If that sort of thing isn't you, I recommend Da Vinci Code also by Dan Brown; it's filled with art, conspiracy, thrills and adventure. In this novel, the same Harvard professor is called to Paris to help solve the murder of an art professor, who obviously knew something that was too secret about the paintings of Da Vinci to be allowed to be heard; religion is questioned and violence begins to erupt. If you are touchy on religion, however, I would say it would be wiser to avoid these books as they challenge religion and various things that seem...touchy. |
Brittany raised her hand and stood up. "I'm sure other students have already suggested these but here are some of my favorites: Charlie Bone series by Jenny Nimmo- It's full of magic and is great for avid HP-readers looking for a good book. Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis- This is an old classic. It's great (again) for avid HP readers... The Clique series by Lisi Harrison- Def. a girly book. It's about the hardships of being a girl going through the middle school years. The Secret of Platform 13 by Eva Ibbotson- A creative story about an enchanted island of magical folk, hoping to get their kidnapped prince back. Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfeild- A more girly story about three adopted girls trying to pursue a dancing career in the 1950's of England. I have tons more so I'll probably be back..." Brittany sat down and folded her hands in her lap, listening to other students tell about their own favorite books. |
Meghan said," Um, I read a really good book called Come A Stranger byCybthia Voigt. Its about this girl named Mina Smiths who is a black girl from Maryland who wins a dance scholarship to Connecticut. She ends up loving the camp and can't wait till she goes back, but when she comes back the next year everything has changed. When she gets home again she begins to face her feelings about being black, which is something she had never really thought about. It's actually really, really good." |

"im Melany Morlow and one of my favorite books is Inkheart by Tamora Peirce http://www.incwell.com/Literature/2003/Inkheart.jpg it's a great fantasy about a girl named Meggie and her father. Meggie and her father love to read. When Meggie was young Meggie's father would always read to her mother. his reading was so beautiful that things came out of the books. the problem is when something comes out of a book something else has to go back in. one day while Meggie's father was reading a book called Inkheart to her mother something happened. some soldiers came out of the book, but Meggie's mother went in the book. from then on Meggie's father never read out loud again. this is only the beginning of the story so don't think i spoiled it for you" Melany said. |
Joanna looked up "That looks like a good book" |

Brittany nodded, "Thanks, i knew it was somewhere around there- i wasnt sure when though." She stood up, "I also just thought of another one: Here Today by Ann M. Martin- It's about a young girl growing up. President Kennedy just got shot, her mother is leaving her, she has to take care of her younger siblings, their are kids vandlizing her neighborhood and everyone at school thinks she and her friend are weird so they hurt them. It's very interesting and filled with a lot of emotion. It also shows just how hard some kids have it. Brittany sat back down in her seat. |

Well, My name is Aurora. All of you who liked the Da Vinci Code (excellent book by the way) Probably will also enjoy The Romanov Prophecy. It's about a lawyer, who works in Moscow and get's involved with prophecy's about the Romanov family and the search after a heirof the tsar. Based on the whole did Anastacia survive question. Very intresting. http://www.booksamillion.com/bam/cov...0345460065.jpg Another very good book is Eragon by Christopher Paolini. It's about a boy who finds a dragon egg and raises this dragon, which brings him in danger and they have to run away. A second book exists called Eldest, but I haven't read it yet.http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P...2.LZZZZZZZ.jpg http://images.amazon.com/images/P/03...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg Also very good are the Fandorin series by boris Akunin. it's about a Russian detective and he has to solve different cases. They are written very good and the Character Fandorin is very good worked out.http://www.tegeler-buecherstube.de/E...n/fandorin.jpg |
I have such a hard time with these descriptions, I always end up saying too much.. ooc: i love eragon, eldest, inkheart and inkspell!!! I met Cornellia Funke yesterday and got inkspell signed ^_^ actually, I like a lot of these books! "I'm Kalaya and I'd like to suggest a couple of books. The first book is Crunch Time by Mariah Fredericks. It's from the point of view of 4 people. Someone cheated on the SATs and it tells you everyones thoughts on who did it and their feelings on the SATs in the first place! It's really good, I could barely put it down when I read it. The other book is Avalon HIgh by Meg Cabot, the author of the Princess Diaries books, the Mediator series, the 1-800-Where-R-You series, and many others. Avalon High is a very interesting book about some highschoolers that are part of something and didn't even realize it. I don't want to say too much about it because I don't want to give it away, but it was very good and also hard to put down." |
"Excellent suggestions so far everybody," states Madame Rowena clearly pleased. Somebody else raises their hand from the other side of the circle. "Please go ahead," says Madame Rowena. |
(i ice tries to read all the books suggested) adds on nervously, "uhm i do like ERAGON an THE ARTMEIS FOUL series the latter book is about a technical genius who is a sort of a hacker(sort of , it will only be explainablewhen one reads the book) that is set on fantasy (soory hasn't read the book as a whole but has liked till where she has read). anyways (now gains confidence) i've enjoyed reading ROSIE a story about how a man tries to build up ties with his grandma and instead she gives him advice on how to make your life the way you want it to be (correction- this is not a kind of "divine intervention sort of book it doesn't gives you advice) read it to marvel how one life can touch other's. (she hastily adds on) "and i like all the books by ERIC SEGAL and has finished reading his book DOCTORS which is a very very nice book and proves that the author is very good in the field of writing (heck? with all the experience) |

These books really are wonderful! "I have a few more books I'd like to add. All of these are by Sarah Dessen, she is a wonderful author. The first is This Lullaby. It's about a girl who doesn't believe in love. She doesn't believe in love because her mother's marriages never lasts. She meets this guy who is determined to get her, but she finds him annoying. They have completely different outlooks on life and are opposites...but everything starts to change after she meets him, even if she doesn't want to admit it. It's a wonderful story, very hard to put down. The next book is Keeping the Moon. This one is about a girl who never fit in, no matter what. When she visits her aunt for the summer everything changes. She gets a job without trying, she learns about friendship and about who she really is. For once, she fits in. It sounds like a book that I would never read, because I don't really like those 'finding yourself' books but I couldn't put this down! The last book is called Someone Like You. It's about two best friends that have certain roles in their friendship. One is the leader, the more outgoing and braver one, where the other is quiet. Suddenly things get rough and Halley, the quiet one, is being depended upon by Scarlett. Usually, Halley is depending on Scarlett, so this is new for her. Scarlett's boyfriend was killed in an accident, and then she finds out she is pregnant with his baby. Halley has to be strong for Scarlett while going through problems of her own. It's a wonderful book, the author is just amazing at her writing and makes it impossible to put down. There are so many sudden, unexpected things in it, you just want to keep reading!" |

"I also loved that book, and it's amazing that it was written by someone who's an 'outsider' of world he wrote about. All the small details about geisha life, their habits, the relationships, the rivalries--you get sucked into a world so foreign yet you feel like you've been there because of all the details put in by the author. But beyond the glamour it presents, it is still is about the story of person who's not really different from anybody else; she's just like the rest of, struggling to get by, and she made the most of what life has brought her. I also recommend the series Hard Cash by British writer Kate Cann. It's actually a trilogy (with Shacked Up and Speeding as follow-ups) and it basically follows the life of a teenage British lad who always finds himself in a rut. A good read for the young adult set, it's very realistic plot about teenage life will make you relate to everything the main character goes through. |

Anjali walked into the room and took a seat quietly. She listen to everyone who talked about books they were reading. Anjali slightly raised her hand. "I love the book THe Edge on The Sword" has anyone read it before??"Pyralis asked. |
Im Hedwig! Umm I've read many books so far and still I have many books to read. I want to recommend to all you to read The Templar Revelation: Secret Guardians of the True Identity of Christ written by Clive Prince and Lynn Picknett. Well, it is not your ideal book to read. It is for more serious reader. The book is about the research and the information 'discovered' by the authors and it is merely on the question about the divinity of Christ, possibly the real story between Jesus and John the Baptist and the possible real story of Mary Magdalene. It is also said that Christ we know is not existed but preferably just an ordinary man with political interest and so on. Also the Christ story, from his birth to his death and resurrection is just borrowed from Egyptian mythology (specifically the story of Isis, Osiris, Horus). Also, it said there that if Jesus was ever existed, why didnt he mentioned in any contemporary writings? On Mary Magdalene, it said that she isnt realy a prostitute but probably with a very much nice status in a society. The author said Magdalene was a priestess of a temple and she is the one who initiate Christ. The book also tackles her story of departure after Christ crucifixion to France, having a daughter and venerated in France. On John the Baptist. The authors said that there's a high probability that John the Baptist and Jesus was rival and John the Baptist is the real Christ. Anyway, I have so much to say but I can't, it's all cramming in my head. |
I just finished reading New Moon by Stephenie Meyer. http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/img/newmooncover.jpg It was an extremely good book. The beginning was heart-breaking, but the end made me happy. I also cried at some parts. I really don't think you should read this enless you read Twilight, the first book in the series, first. This series was very great. I'm not really into fantasy books (besides Harry Potter, of course!) but this was one of the books I really liked. It's about a girl names Bella and a vampire named Edward. What I liked about these books were that vampires obviously aren't real, but Stephenie was able to make it seem very realistic, like this could happen to anybody. |
I have just finshed reading Double Helix by Nancy Werlin and the book is to die for. It has alot of mystry to it and its just all around a good book. I dont want to tell you much about it but just so you know. |
Torie spoke up from her seat in the circle. Her blue eyes flashed and her speech became animated and joyful as she spoke about one of her favourite subjects: books. "There have been so many awesome books mentioned. I have read a lot of them myself, and I now have some good suggestions for future reading. I would like to reccommend a few books. First, for tween-teen readers, the Keys to the Kingdom series by Garth Nix. There are 4 books out so far, but I've only read the first 3: Mister Monday, Grim Tuesday, Drowned Wednesday, and Sir Thursday. They are absolutely fabulous and great for older people too. As well, the Pendragon series by D.J. McHale. Simply wonderful! Second, for older readers, and I mean older, Tuesdays with Morrie and The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon, and The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. They are wonderful, sad, happy, and touching books all rolled into one. And finally, for everyone, no matter what the age, I reccommend my current novel, Jonathan Strange and Mister Norrell by Suzanna Clarke." Tired now, Torie stopped for breath and looked expectantly at the next person in the circle. |
" Hello, My name is Maya and I would like to reccomend the book Double Act . It is about two twins coping with the death of their mother, a step-mother, and moving to the country-side. They find an advertisement about two twin actors. In the end, one of the twins end up in a posh boarding school, and the other makes friends with the bully. " |
Hi Everyone! These are some amazing books you've shared so far. I have a lot on my list to read now. I know a lot of people have talked about Dan Brown's DaVinci Code, and Angels and Demons- I have to agree they are both wonderful books!! I'm currently reading another book by Dan Brown called Deception Point. I will review it for you, when I have finished. The book and author I would like to share tonight, is Tuesdays With Morrie, by Mitch Albom. http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...r/tuesdays.jpg I loved this book!! It's about the author, Mitch Albom, going back to visit his old college Professor - Morrie, and finding out he has ALS or Lou Gehrigh's Disease. He makes it a point to get to know Morrie better and begins spending every Tuesday with him. Each day they spend together, they talk about a different topic regarding life. While it is sad to see Morrie's disease and condition worsening, his outlook on life is simply amazing!! This book touched me deeply, and hit very close to home. I have a family friend who passed away from ALS. I know how difficult the struggle is for the person, and for those around them. I can't imagine facing death, and losing a loved one. It's extremely hard. However, Morrie in accepting death, embraced life and more importantly- the meaning of life. Reading this book gives you an appreciation for the time we have here and reminds us all of what's truly important. It's an emotional book, but completely worth the read! I recommend it to everyone! |

The book i am reading now, well re-reading now is by David Eddings its called The Saphire Rose. Its the 3rd book out of 3 to the first set. It is a great read if you are into science fiction and is based on magic, but not the HP type of magic. I absolutly love David Eddings books, ive been reading and re-reading them since i was 11. He has lots of books that follow on from each other. The first books i read were the Belgariad and Malloreon series, these are a total of 10 books which follow on all based on the same characters, with 2 other books which come after to explain the history of the story. |
Sylvia popped into the book club after overhearing most of the conversation anyway. Quote:
I was just going to recomend that! What a wonderful book! Did you read Twilight as well, or just New Moon? Did you hear she's putting a book out from Edwards POV??? And that a film might be in the works... (Key word there is 'might') It's enough to get me psyched up until Christmas! Or longer..." She squealed excitedly. Quote:
Having given more than her two cents, (more like four pounds...) Sylvia sat back quietly, smiling excitedly. Then, realizing her bad manners she introduced herself, "I'm Sylvia White by the way. Fifth year Gryffindor!" |
"Hi, i'm mandi....and I have a very long list of books that everyone here needs to check out. So here we go..... White Oleander- Janet Finch : Astrid Magnussen, the teenage narrator of Janet Fitch's engrossing first novel, White Oleander, has a mother who is as sharp as a new knife. An uncompromising poet, Ingrid despises weakness and self-pity, telling her daughter that they are descendants of Vikings, savages who fought fiercely to survive. And when one of Ingrid's boyfriends abandons her, she illustrates her point, killing the man with the poison of oleander flowers. This leads to a life sentence in prison, leaving Astrid to teach herself the art of survival in a string of Los Angeles foster homes. She's Come Undone- Wally Lamb Meet Dolores Price. She's 13, wise-mouthed but wounded, having bid her childhood goodbye. Beached like a whale in front of her bedroom TV, she spends the next few years nourishing herself with the Mallmomars, potato chips, and Pepsi her anxious mother supplies. When she finally rolls into young womanhood at 257 pounds, Dolores is no stronger and life is no kinder. But this time she's determined to rise to the occasion and give herself one more chance before really going belly up. In this extraordinary coming-of-age odyssey, Wally Lamb invites us to hitch a wild ride on a journey of love, pain, and renewal with the most heartbreakingly comical heroine to come along in years. At once a fragile girl and a hard-edged cynic, so tough to love yet so inimitably lovable, Dolores is as poignantly real as our own imperfections. She's Come Undone includes a promise: you will never forget Dolores Price. The Vampire Chronicles- Anne Rice It covers the lives of about five or six vampires, from 16th century france up to the 21st century.....great books. My favorite author right now is Jenniefer Weiner....she wrote Good in Bed, Little Earthquakes and In Her Shoes, that was made into a movie. She is a very good author.... Alice Sebold- The Lovely Bones Shockingly original and completely unforgettable, The Lovely Bones is the story of a family devastated by a gruesome murder -- a murder recounted by the teenage victim. Upsetting, you say? Remarkably, first-time novelist Alice Sebold takes this difficult material and delivers a compelling and accomplished exploration of a fractured family's need for peace and closure. The details of the crime are laid out in the first few pages: from her vantage point in heaven, Susie Salmon describes how she was confronted by the murderer one December afternoon on her way home from school. Lured into an underground hiding place, she was raped and killed. But what the reader knows, her family does not. Anxiously, we keep vigil with Susie, aching for her grieving family, desperate for the killer to be found and punished. Alice Sebold- Lucky One night near the end of her freshman year at Syracuse University, Alice Sebold was raped while walking home through a park. From that experience comes Lucky, an account of the rape and the year that followed it, 12 months during which Sebold tried to readjust to college and family life. Six months after the rape, she spotted her attacker on the street in Syracuse, and thus began the long, arduous task of prosecuting him. and I can't believe nobody has mentioned this.....The Lord of the Rings And I agree about Midnight and New Moon, I'm reading Midnight for the second time right now actually....good books.....and she's a local writer so that makes it better...I have an autographed copy :) |

Hi, i am Mason and I am reading Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein. It is very interesting. Everyone should check It out. |
Edit: acidentially posted. |
Maya also said - " There is also a good series, called Guardians of Ga'Hoole. Did anyone read it? Its about Owls. " |
Faye's Canadian book list Hi my name is Fabienne and I am a biblioholic. :P here are just some of the books that have fed my addiction There Will Be Wolves, by Karleen Bradford I loved this book when I first read it and every time I read it again I just love it more. It's about a young woman in Germany at the begining of the Holy Crusades under Richard the Lionhearted. The woman, Ursula, is accused of practicing witchcraft, though as far as I could tell she was a Muggle, and as we know, during the crusudes, the life expectancy of us magical folk was about an hour. She is sent on a crusade to "attone for her sins" and the book is the story of her journey and the struggles, emotional, physical, and moral, that she faces on it. Stories From the Vinyl Cafe, The Vinyl Cafe Unplugged, Home From the Vinyl Cafe, The Vinyl Cafe Diaries, and Secrets from the Vinyl Cafe; by Stuart McLean. This is a great, hilarious series by a Radio Host on the CBC. The Vinyl Cafe is a radio show with live music, usually jazz or folk, and hosted by Stuart McLean. Most episodes he tells us stories about the family and friends of Dave, a hapless, well meaning, bumbling man with a wife, two kids, a cat, a dog, and occasionally the odd guinea pig or wild bird. All these stories eventually get published into books of short stories that are so funny they can't be read to oneself in a public place lest you want people to think you're crazy for laughing to yourself. Honorable mention goes to the stories entitled Skunks, Galway, Dave Cooks the Turkey, A Night to Remember, and Tree Planting. The Hockey Sweater, by Roch Carrier I have the french version of this book, but the English translation is just as good, and just as classic. Originally published in French in 1979, a line from this book is printed on the latest version of the Canadian five dollar bill, so familiar has it become. It's the story of a young boy in Quebec who is sent a hockey sweater, only it's the Toronto Maple Leafs Jersey instead of that of the Montreal Canadians. Among young boys in Quebec, you cheer for Montreal, and never Toronto, lest you want, at best, a serious ribbing, or at worse, to be shunned as a traitor. That's it for my selections this time around. These ones were all Canadian publications, which was only half on purpose. |
Hello. My name is Neva *Smiles warmly at the group* and I am currently re-reading The Book Of Shadows by Don Paterson. It has become my kind of mini bible. This marvellous collection of reflections on art, work, death and the human condition demonstrates that it is possible to write lightly about the weightiest things ( and things that have no weight at all). Aphorisms, being normally only two or three lines long, are in their form perfect for our times. In Paterson's hands, they become suprisingly wise and moving as well. Startlingly insightful, funny, exotic and, of course, from one of the finest poets of his generation, irreducibly well put, this is a book everyone should read. |
Hi I'm Hannah. I just finished a series called The Sisterhood of the Traveling pants. There is 4 books in the series. It's about 4 girls named, Tibby, Lena, Bridget, and Carma. They all have somethings a little messed up in there lives. But the find these pants in a vintage store. They fit all 4 of them despite their sizes. Even thogh their away all summer they can past on the pants and be together. I recomend this book to mature 11 year olds and up. 10/10 is my rating. |
Hi I'm Kyia, and I never stop reading. Among my favorite books are: 1. The Heralds of Valdemar by Mercedes Lackey (I love them all!)- If you love fantasy these are such fun. There's magic, court intrigue, all in a medieval world, where Heralds who have magic gifts and their bonded Companions- really cool, really sarcastic magical white horses, protect the kingdom of Valdemar. 2. Eragon and Eldest by Christopher Paolini- If you are a complete dragon fanatic like me, you will love these. Elves, dwarves- the gang's all here. 3. The Westmark Trilogy by Lloyd Alexander- Kind of an off the norm like for me- no magic, unless you count complete fackery, but with many loveable characters- ex. Mickle a street waif who used to be a princess or maybe a princess who used to be a street waif- she can't make up her mind, and others, crazy plot turns, and full of moments where you both love and hate the author. - He tends to endanger the lives of many of the characters and the third book in the triliogy- Beggar Queen is a complete cry because of this. 4. Serenity- yes, for all of you Browncoats out there (of which I am a proud one), this book follows the plot line of the movie. 5. Song of the Lioness Quartet by Tamora Pierce- I've only read book one so far, but I already know that this will be a wild ride. With twins, magic, a girl trying to train to become a knight in a world where women can't fight- it is just priceless. 6. All of the Harry Potter Books- duh. 7. Inkheart by Corneilia Funke- For those of us who truly love books, this novel takes the idea of a book about/within a book- from Neverending Stroy- to a whole new level. The book is about a book- also by the name of Inkheart, that is brought to life when characters of our world read some of the book's characters into our world from the book's pages, starting all characters on a crazy adventure that continues in the sequel Inkspell, which I also reccommend. 8. The Merlin Conspiracy- Again just another random, magical book that totally rocks. Finally, read them all if you can, if you can't, well there are a million other good books out there to spend your time with. |
"Hi, my name is Natalie and I practically always have my nose in a book! I have so many favorites I can't even list them all, but some very good books I would recommend would be: 1. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. It's the first book in a wonderful series. It's about a girl named Bella who just moved and started a new school. She meets Edward, who's a vampire. It's so exciting and suspensful. The next book, New Moon, is just as great as the first. Usually, I am not a big fan of fantasy, but the way Stephenie writes makes it seem very realistic. 2. The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen. Sarah Dessen is one of my favorite authors and she is very talented at writing books for the teenager group. A girl named Macy has to work at the library while her boyfriend Jason goes of to "Brain Camp". My favorite part is when Macy quits her job to work with the catering company. She meets a guy names Wess, and they start a game by asking each other questions. I'm not telling you anymore, so you're just going to have to read it yourself! 3. The last book I going to tell you about is the series of The Clique by Lisi Harrison. Recently, It's not Easy Being Mean was released. They're about a group of girls trying to fit in. I wouldn't recommend them, though, if you aren't interested in clothes and looks and that sort of thing. Well, I hope you enjoy the books I just told you about, if you choose to read them." |
Hi i'm Melony and I am currently reading The Blade of Fire by Stuart Hill. It is the second book in the Icemark chronicles. It is a fantastic read. Also the books Magyk and Flyte, by Angie Sage, are excellent reads as well. Plus, Eragon and Eldest by Christopher Paolini, are amazing,as well! |
"Hi, Im Katherine Sparrow, call me Kat. I love to read and this is one of the books that I have read reciently that O loved. It is a classic and maybe you think because it was written a lng time ago that it might be boring. It is an amazing book about injustice and the people who fight it. Set in the small Southern town of Maycomb, Alabama, during the Depression, To Kill a Mockingbird follows three years in the life of 8-year-old Scout Finch, her brother, Jem, and their father, Atticus--three years punctuated by the arrest and eventual trial of a young black man accused of raping a white woman. Though her story explores big themes, Harper Lee chooses to tell it through the eyes of a child. The result is a tough and tender novel of race, class, justice, and the pain of growing up. http://img.search.com/thumb/d/d1/Moc..._Cover_Art.jpg http://www.venturacollege.edu/events.../bookcover.gif It is a wonderful book and I hope you will read it! |
Ginny looked around and since no one else spoke she did “well due to the wide range of books in my old school library I read a lot too...I have a favorite series of book right after Harry potter...if you love fantasy and that sort of magicy stuff then read ‘the black magicians trilogy by Trudi Canvan(i know hermygirl I agree with you they are defiantly very very good)' and the three books are called 'the magicians guild, The novice, The high lord' I found the three amazing with great twists even though the first book is a little slow after you get the main story in the first they seem to wizz past.... If you choose to read then or read them pm me and tell me what you think :) Also a nice book even though there is a series but I found the first few books a little slow and dragging this one was great it is called 'Conrads fate by Diana Wynne Jones' very nice book about a twelve year old boy with pure bad luck and how a young magition saves him... Another amazing seires...not sure if it is a trilogy or not but for now there is three books..."The spooks aprentaince, the spooks curse, and the spooks secret and on emore the spooks battle(not published yet' all three a filled with magic but in this world magic isn’t always a good thing...it is a little scary and there is some serious gore in it but still the three that i have read are amazing! another book i just finished was the 'daughter of the forest' by Juliet Marillier its form the sevenwaters trilogy (first book). The book it self is based on the fairy tail story 'the six swans' or reasently as i heared there is one with twelve swans too but thats the original. but the book has amazing description of what happens to the girl and all the pain and suffering she goes through for her brothers. It is also filled with a forbiden romace, but im not going to spoil it for you but it is a great book to read. Theres three books and it all gets better the further it goes, i absolutly adore all the three books!Dughter of the forest, son of the shadows, child of the prophecys' all of them are fab! I would also agree with most of you about The cliques which were pretty good." Ginny finished looking around (was that long sorry) |
