The walls were back to their blue state. Even the ceiling had somehow got painted blue. It was fabulous to Lainey and she had a certain Slytherins or two to thank for it. Her office was now re-decorated with all her keepsakes that Borr had taken from her. Yet another Slytherin had made sure to keep her things safe until her return. Over the summer vacation, Lainey had gotten herself a few dark detectors, a few cupboards that only she could open. Afterall, she needed a bit of privacy in her constantly busy office.

Not much had changed over the summer though. After last terms encounter with an old ... shall we say acquaitance ... Lainey had gone a bit paranoid. The event in Hogsmeade had haunted her for the whole of summer. Though, honestly, was haunting even the right word? No time to dwell on that...

Seated in her high backed chair, Professor Lainey works on repairing an old History book. She looks up as you enter and clearly is not sure if she trusts you. "Hi. What can I do for you?"

Pauline walked to Lainey's office thinking of some story to tell her and how would she ever bring up scents and perfume but she'd find away. She knocked on teh door and awaited a answer.

Svetlana waited outside the office with a small book on sewing charms of the Victorian era. She would see if she could get close enought o the Professor through examining her robes stitching. If she even forgot her glasses so she would have an excuse to why she needed to get so close.

Lainey had been keeping a very, very low profile lately. She'd been avoiding her office and most public places all together. However... she knew that at some point she'd have to go back to her office. She just really didn't want to be sniffed again.

"Oh, hello. You lot come on in. Have a seat." Lainey went straight to her chair and pushed back from her desk as far as possible. No one would be sniffing her today.

Julia approached Lainey's office as the woman was walking into it. Perfect timing. She quickly ran in before the other students could enter. Julia watched and raised an eyebrow as Lainey scooted her chair away from her desk.

"Um, professor, I have to talk to you about something kind of, well, important." She glanced at the other students, then turned her attention back to Lainey. "It's about the book and those nutty Salem sisters."

If it would have been proper, Lainey would have banged her forehead against her desk. "Do we have to?" she asked, lightly. Of course she had to.

"What do you want to know, Julia? Some of that is private, but I'll try to tell you what you want to know." Lainey groaned inwardly, dreading the questions to come.

Julia raised her eyebrows. "Well actually, professor, I wanted to tell you about an incident that happened in the hallways recently. "But... if you're going to let me ask questions, I'll surely take advantage of this moment."

She grinned and paused before asking, "Does the Book really belong to them like they claim?" Julia still wanted them to show her a certificate of some sort, but she was very curious to know whether or not these women were telling the truth. Would Lainey know the answer? She sure hoped so.

Lainey's face remained neutral for a long, long moment. They were claiming the Book as their own? They knew about the Book!? Lainey felt like she'd just fallen from her broom. She cleared her throat.

"Well... I...," Lainey scooted her chair forward and rested her elbows on her desk. "I don't know, Julia. I wish I did know though." It'd sure explain a lot. Not to mention.... Lainey would have a ton of questions for them if it did.

Julia took a seat in a chair on the opposite side of the desk as Lainey. "Hmm. Well, they're telling everyone they're looking for 'their' book. They've been putting up posters, wanting students to come and help them summon the book."

She examined Lainey's face for a moment, trying to decide if she should tell her she claimed to be the Keeper of the Book. Yikes... that might not be a good idea. Maybe they'd get to that later.

Lainey shook her head. "I have to be honest and tell you that I have no idea what they're on about. I'm not even sure they that we're talking about the same... Book."

Julia rolled her eyes and shook her head. "How could it not be the same Book? I do recall one of them mentioning something about how they didn't know why their book was so popular. Come on, professor. I think it's pretty obvious what they're looking for."

She stared at the floor for a long time before saying something again. "Do we know for a fact that these women aren't bad people? They could be working for Voldemortist for all we know." She intentionally left out the 'Lord'. Julia looked up at Lainey and simply blinked. Was she just being paranoid?

"You ask me things that I just don't know, Julia. If I did know answers like that, well, I wouldn't be hiding in my quarters from three old ladies that like to sniff me." Lainey wanted to get away from the Voldemortist path. She hadn't thought about him in a long time.

Julia folded her arms and sat back in her chair for a long time. "Good point." She was now at a loss for what to say. Finally, she decided she would have to mention what she did. "Professor... do you think it's dangerous to claim to be the Keeper of the Book?"

"I wouldn't exactly call it safe," Lainey answered immediately. "Not to mention it would be a lie." Lainey sighed. She wished she was the Keeper of the Book. Lainey looked up when another student came in.

"Homework? What about it?"

Julia ignored the student that walked in, asking about homework. She held back a giggle at what Lainey said. "Okay," she replied simply. Lainey sure was taking all of this better than she had expected she would.

"Oh... another thing. I told one of the sisters that every year you pick a responsible and well-behaved seventh year to be your personal assistant... and that this year you had picked me. I hope you don't mind." Now she let the giggles come pouring out. It seemed like the appropriate moment.

"Ah... well that's a shade closer to being right. More so than you being the Book Keeper," Lainey lowered her eyes to Julia. "As my personal assistant it's your job to keep them from smelling me." Lainey paused. "... But, that doesn't mean you get to cover me in dung bombs. Maybe I'll take back that request. Sounds dangerous when given to you, Miss Julia." Lainey laughed along with her.

Julia laughed with Lainey and just shook her head. "Dungbombs? Oh please, professor! That's first year stuff," she replied with a wink. "..But no! Don't take it back. I'll gladly keep them away from you." She paused for a moment, just grinning. "Is there anything else I can do for you, professor?"

Svetlana watched as an older Ravenclaw went into the office before she had the chance to speak to the Professor. Svetlana leaned against the doorjam hoping that some information would sift out to her own ears. After sometime though she became bored. Since she heard enough to think that this conversation wasn't exciting she left to go to the lake.

"No.... No, Julia I do not believe so. Maybe more when I figure out what the old... um.. I mean, the Salem Guests are up to." Lainey rubbed her brow. "Pauline? Did you need something? Go on, love." Lainey held out her tin of peppermints to the girls.

"Why Thank you?" she said and took a mint then began what she wanted to ask. "I was wondering when your next class was to be?" she said then thinkign to herself what a stupid question.

"Oh," Lainey was surprised it wasn't a "why are those ladies sniffing you" question. It was a question she sort of knew the answer to. "Soon," Lainey offered. "I'll probably have class tomorrow afternoon, actually. I hope to see you there, Pauline."

"Ok cool, thanks proffesor," She said turning around before heading out the door. She smelled some sort of perfume and decided to ask. "Proffesor if you don't mind me asking what perfume are you wearing it smeel lovely," She added.

Lainey stared flatly at the girl. "Do you really want to know or is this about those three old coots... I mean, the Salem sisters smelling me?" Lainey subconsciously sniffed herself again. She really didn't smell all that strong!

"No, no no." she siad didn't meanign to offend her. "No i really want to know, i have a good sense of smell and your perfume sent triggered my nose," She said.
