Meghan raised her hand, "Reducio." She said.

"Reducto." Alanna's hand was in the air.

"Reducio," Eunice said.

"Reducio" Rave answered

Erin continued to take notes because many other students had beaten her to answering the question.

Eunice pursed her lips. Her fellow classmates always seemed to say the answer before her. Shrugging, she occupied herself with writing the spell and what it did on her parchment.

Hearing two different answers, Talons paused in her notes, not wanting to write down the wrong spell. She looked up at the professor expectantly.

"Very good, five points. Reducio is very different from Reducto, so we need to be sure we have the two spells separate in our minds. Reducto is the spell to use if you want to blow a hole in the wall, and we won't be learning it here. The wand movement for the two spells is simple enough: just point at whatever object you want to enlarge or shrink back. I've placed an object on each of your desks to practice on, so if there are no other questions, you may begin."

Meghan looked down at her desk and saw a Rubber Duckie. She gave it a funny look before she said, "Engorgio." It did nothing. She sat there for a moment thinking maybe she hadn't put enough feeling into it. "Engorgio." She said again. And again it did nothing. "ENGORGIO!" She bellowed putting as much feeling into it as she could. It started to grow. But it didn't stop suddenly it was 3 feet tall. "Oh no." She said. "Now I am going to have nightmares about giant rubber duckies!"

Rave looked at the goblet on her table. With her voice full of confidence she said "Reducio!" and the goblet shrunk to about the size of her fingernail.

Sabrina giggled at Meghan's comment about giant ducks and then pointed her wand at a teacup that was on her desk. "Engorgio" she said clearly watching as it began to grow. "Wow, you'd never need a refill of tea for this cup."

"Engorgio" Erin shouted, obviously a little too powerfully. The book on her desk became way larger than it had been. It was bigger than her desk. "Ohhhh!!!!" she sqealed. "Reducio" she yelled as powerfully as before. The book was reduced to a size a little smaller than it had been originally.

Pulling out her wand, Eunice studied the teapot on her table. "Reducio!" she commanded, pointing her wand at the teapot. She didn't expect anything to happen, as she usually had to try at least a few times to get the spell down right. She cleared her throat and tried again.

Jo took out her wand, gave it a wave over the teacup, and said, "Engorgio." the teacup rattled. Hmm, not enough feeling i guess. Jo tried again. She envisioned the cup growing like a plant, and she waved her wand again. "Engorgio!"

That time it worked. the teacup grew to take up the whole desk. "Cool," she said.

Meghan held her wand and looked at the rubber duckie. She gave it a bow as if they were in a dual and said, "You are going down rubber duckie! Literally." She said, "REDUCIO!" And once again the spells she cast did nothing. "Oh come on!" So she bellowed Reducio. She felt a sense of accomplishment as she watched it shrink. It kept getting smaller and suddenly she couldn't find it. "Um, Has anyone seen my duck? I seem to have lost it." She paused wondering how weird that sounded.

Rave looked around her desk for the goblet. After a few minutes she found it and said "Engorgio" with a confident voice and the goblet grew to about a foot tall, pretty large for something that had only been a half inch tall a moment before.

"Reducio," Eunice said, concentrating hard on the teapot. To her relief, after a few more tries, she got the teapot to shrink.

Talons scribbled down both spells, shut her notebook, and looked at the bar of soap on her desk. She took out her wand, pointed it at the soap and said "Engorgio!" The bar of soap swelled to twice its original size. this could come in handy... she thought to herself. She suddenly had a question. Raising her hand, she asked, "Professor, would this work on living objects as well?"

Now Eunice tried the other spell. She pointed the tip of her wand at the miniture teapot, making sure that it was right on target, and said, "Engorgio!" It immediately grew back to its normal size.

Jo prepared herself, reducio, not reducto, let's not cause any major accidents today. "R-reducIo" she said. Nothing.
Jo waved her wand again. "Reducio" she implored it. "Please?"
Jo was getting exasperated, "Look teacup, just get smaller or I WILL use the reductor curse!" she rolled up her sleeves. "Reducio!"
The teacup and her desk both reduced them selves, the teacup to its original size and the desk to the proportionate size.

"Oh great"

Erin laughed at Meghan's rubber duckie comment. She then turned back to her book and decided to try and shrink it again. "Reducio" she yelled. They book got much smaller and didn't stop shrinking. Suddenly, she couldn't see it any more. She searched around her desk for a few minutes and she couldn't seem to find it. She raised her hand. "Ummm,,,, professor, I can't find my book. I shrunk it too small." she said, hoping not to get in trouble for losing her object.

Sabrina glanced around at the rest of her classmates, giggling at some of the results. She looked back at her teacup, pointed her wand, and said "Reducio." Nothing happened. Hmm, well let's try again. She concentrated on making it smaller and repeated the spell. It began to shrink back down to its normal size. But then it continue to shrink when it got there. Exasperated, she began practicing the spells again, doing "Engorgio" then "Reducio" until she had them down perfectly.

After searching for almost ten minutes Meghan just randomly pointed her wand at her desk and said, "Engorgio." The desk swelled a little and Meghan jumped back in suprise. She quickly put it back to its origional size.

She pointed at a different spot on the desk and said the spell again. She smiled when she saw something other than the desk getting larger. She screamed when she saw that it was an ant. It grew to be almost 2 feet tall. She shuddered as she yelled the counterspell. It slowly went back to its origional size.

This was going to be her last attempt if the Duck didn't show up she would just take the consequences for losing it. She yelled the spell and saw as the duck began to grow. It stopped at its origional size. Meghan started to jump around and yell when she saw she had done the spell correctly. She picked up the duck and started hugging it like mad. She stopped when she noticed a few other students giving her funny looks.

Jo took her tea cup off of her mini desk and tried the Engorgio charm again. The desk returned to normal. It must have realized its fate would be the Gryffindor Common Room Fire if it didn't. Jo set her teacup back down, and practiced her Charms, sometimes doing well, sometimes, not so well, but eventually, she got it pretty well down.

"Yes, it can be used on living objects, but it is a bit harder and should only be tried when one is well accomplished with the spell."
