Welcome to another MotW interview. I am your host, Kris (aka Biochemkris, as if you couldn't tell from the fact that I posted this).
So, put your hands together for this week's Member of the week:
evlpez
aka Jan Interviewer in green and interviewee in black. So, did you want to do the interview?
Sure, if you want. I have a moment. Just playing some radio.
tee hee Awesome. Ok, like I said, I'm a bit rusty so, forgive me *squirts oil in ears*
Don't worry about it. It's my first, so you're ahead of me.
Okay, I guess we'll start off with who are you?
lol I'm evlpez, or Jan, as many people know me.
And can you tell us a little bit about yourself, Jan? Who is the lady behind the screenname?
Hm. Well, I'm Canadian, I'm a 'mature' HP fan and I spend way too much time online immersed in the HP Fandom.
I'm also a stay-at-home mother of two awesome kids.
Three cheers for stay-at-home moms! tee hee
We so rock.
Totally. *not conceited*
Okay, so I'm guessing you don't have much free time apart from being online and playing mommy?
You're right. I don't. LOL But it doesn't matter. How else should I be spending my time? I mean really, other than raising my children, I can think of no better way to spend my time than with Harry Potter stuff.
I concur.
Thought you might.
If you did have more free time, what other things would you be doing?
I would probably be outside more with my kids. But if I had more time to myself, perhaps I'd play my guitar more, or do some crafty things like make bead jewelry. *shrug* Paint... read. Definitely read more.
What is your favorite thing to read?
Well Harry Potter, of course. I like to read all sorts though. I have Christopher Paolini's Eldest here waiting to be read. I love fantasy stories like those by Anne McCaffrey and Terry Brooks, and Science Fiction like Heinlein (I've read everything he wrote).
Oooo. I love Anne McCaffrey: which series is your favorite?
The Dragonriders of Pern. I read those as a teenager and LOVED them. Must drag those out again and dust them off.
eeeeee Have you read any of the new Pern novels?
NEW PERN NOVELS? *faints dead*
lol
No. I haven't. After this, you must give me titles to shop for, ok?
tee hee
Like my reading list isn't long enough. I read in spurts. I read all of Dan Brown's books in a month. Don't do that, by the way. He's great too, but not all at once.
Yeah, I've got a pile of them and I just started on ebooks as they are very convenient to read on the computer or my pal pilot while taking care of the bub.
Hm. I need paper books. I read enough on the computer with all the HP fan fiction I read.
lol
I read much less FF than I used to, now that I 'work' with it and have a staff *points to mah minions* to do a lot of that. But I used to read a LOT of it, just for the pleasure.
Speaking of which, what's your role on SS?
I'm the Fan Fiction Administrator. *shines the badge* Oh and the Resident SS Radio Piggy (as in I hog the radio, broadcasting every day )
Very cool. And you were recently playing stuff from "A Nightmare Before Christmas"
Yeah. I LOVE Danny Elfman. I have almost everything he's done - all the Oingo Boingo albums and nearly all of his movie scores/soundtracks on cd. But I love NmBC and it's nearly Halloween... so... yeah. It's time. I'll be playing it a lot in the next few days.
I watch it for Halloween and Christmas as it sort of overlaps the two holidays.
And I just bought the Corpse Bride soundtrack, so once I screen it for appropriateness for SS radio... it's getting played too.
I'm losing track of what I was doing. *takes out oil can again* I'm distracted, Xander is falling asleep at the bottle.
Aww Bless him! *smooches*
He's tired, it's bed time.
Best time of the day, innit??
Actually, after he's down is the best time of day, bed time is awful.
Ah yes... well I meant the 'already in bed' part.
tee hee Anyhow…
Yes. Interview...
How did you come across SS?
Actually, I got a link in an e-mail from Alivan's Wand Makers. They were sponsoring the Potter Project back in September of 2003. I thought, "How cool would that be, to win a wand?" And I rushed right over to SS to participate.
Did you win one?
Actually I did! LMAO! Very surprised about it, too! I won the 5th round by throwing a pretty wile twist into the mix. I wouldn't have rated it very highly myself, eve. But the players liked it enough I guess. LOL
wild* gah! *stabs typos* I am the Typos Queen. Sorry.
It's ok, we'll clean it up in post.
OH no you won't. I know how you interviewers work
*twists quotes to make jan sound silly*
You say you will edit to make us relax, and then you leave them in (or add more, I'll bet).
*adds typos to make it worse*
See I am so psychic. LMAO
lol
What was the twist? (and are the stories from the potter projects available to read somewhere?)
Umm... I believe that the official records of the Potter Projects are lost forever, but I might know where to find some record of the first one on the website of one of the participants. *says "Umm" and "Yeah" some more*
The twist, I believe, was making Harry (& Co.) believe that they'd changed the past enough by meddling with time travel that Harry was no longer "The Boy Who Lived", but Neville was.
Oh, I remember that!
Yeah. That was me. I think it provided some challenge for the project admins to come up with a good mission for the next round.
Way to go!
So, what is your favorite part of the site?
My favorite part of Snitchseeker... whoa. Fan Fictions are great. And the News section too. I spend most of my leisure time (what leisure?) in those areas these days. It used to be Zonko's, but there is so much elsewhere on SS that I haven't spent much time there lately.
Well, you're an admin so, I guess I can't really ask you the "what would you change about ss?" question as you're in a position to change it scratches head So… um… How'd you get into HP?
My mother-in-law is an English teacher. She mentioned the Harry Potter phenomena around the time PoA was out, how Philosopher's Stone was such a good book, and that the biggest news about it was that adults around the world were loving it as much as children. I was given PS for Christmas and once I read it, I raced out to get CoS and PoA. But I wasn't obsessed yet.
When GoF came out, I resisted buying it, as I'd never paid $20 or more for a book before in my life and wasn't about to pay that outrageous price. Lol Of course, I got it as a gift too. Then I found Fan Fiction. Then I pre-ordered OotP, deciding that the price was more than worth it. Hooked.
(this is a very lame interview spices it up by doing the tango) No wait! the salsa
*salsa's too, just so you don't feel uncomfortable dancing by yourself*
tee hee
Who is your favorite character?
I have a few. Right now, after HBP, it is Severus Snape.
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I LOVE SNAPE! But, everyone already knows that.
I know. Me too.
*sits quietly*
evlpez *SS RADIO YAH!* says:
I also love Neville Longbottom. *pets him*
What do you love about them?
Severus is so complex and so underrated. He has a lot of pain in his past, I think. And as much as I hate his behaviour towards the students (Harry and Neville in particular), I think he's very brave to continue doing what he does. He's very mysterious, too. And Shmexy. I like his fashion sense. Black is the new black, after all.
As for Neville, I think he's coming into his own, becoming his own wizard, so to speak. Particularly after the battle at the ministry. He has pain in his past as well, and is brave but for different reasons. Both he and Severus overcome their pain to 'get the job done' so to speak.
I think Neville desperately needs love, but that he has it from the people around him (his housemates) and it gives him strength. I don't know where Severus gets his strength. I think he believes that love is beyond him; that he doesn't deserve it or maybe he thinks it is beneath him. He has no time for that sentiment, and he's just busy righting past wrongs. I don't know. But I'd like to know more about him.
I've gotta go upstairs for a bit. Shawn's showering and Xander is screaming.
Okay. Want to finish it tomorrow?
~~~~~
Several days later…
Boo. Again.
tee hee… boo back
Happy Halloween!
tee hee
What's Xander dressing as? hehe
My little welsh green is sleeping.
Awww Wow. Sleep! Yay! lol
I need to remember where we were.
Hm... hang on..
I'm now doing two interviews at once, it's a race to see who gets to be this week and who gets next week .
lmao!
Ok, you were asking me about my fave character.
right
and I said Sev and Neville.
Snape and Neville.
Yup.
Which character do you relate best to?
Hmm... Professor McGonagall, I think. Because I have a sense of duty and responsibility, but deep down, I'd rather be watching a good game of quidditch.
nice! bahahahaha
I get things done, but only because I work at it, or I'd be goofing off. And I think there's that side to her we don't see. Like her, I'd have been instructing Peeves on how to get at Umbridge and such.
That's awesome!
Have you ever wanted to be a teacher?
I have, but I smartened up. LOL My husband and mother-in-law are teachers. I'd enjoy some aspects of it, but I wouldn't enjoy the political side to it.
Technically, you are a teacher since you have a couple kids at home.
Do they like hp or are they too young to know who he is, yet?
Liam (2 yrs) is too young to get it, but Maeve (4) is a big HP fan. We watch the movies and play HP lego together, or wear witches' hats and play "Potion Shop" (where she sells me various toy kitchen foods and things and we pretend they're potions or ingredients).
Aw that's adorable!
And we're reading Philosopher's Stone, but it's slow going. She likes books with more pictures in them, and she's a bigger fan of the movies right now.
That is still really cute.
Are you guys witches for Halloween?
I am. Maeve has decided to be a Firefighter this year (was very impressed with her classmate's firefighter's costume at Show-and-Tell in playschool last week). Liam is Blue (Blue's Clues).
aw
I'll show you a pic tomorrow.
Xander got a dinosaur/dragon costume so I'm saying he's a Welsh Green (GoF is coming up, after all).
Yeah! I had a feeling that's what you meant! I should've sent you Liam's old Lion's Costume.. he could've gone as a Gryffindor supporter.
I'm a Slytherin/Ravenclaw gal, myself.
I know.
In fact, I'm wearing my Slth tee today and had my Azkaban shirt on over it earlier.
Whoa. I need more wizard-wear. *shnuggles her SS T-shirt*
oh, I have one of those, too... and a muggle tee and a wanted poster tee. My mom loves hp and me and bought them for me. She's got a muggle tee and the wanted poster tee.
Really? I'd never have guessed you'd have an SS Tee. Cool. I need a muggle Tee for my hubby. He's SUCH a muggle. Insists Sirius Black is still alive, as they haven't made a movie about his death yet. *pokes him*
I have about 15 more in a box that aren't mine.
yet. lol
Okay, let's see we covered the three areas I like to cover, I think (personal, ss, and hp) so I suppose now it's time to ask that dreaded question.
Gah. Lay it on me.
It's a doozy: Former MotW, Ashley (aka Hermione_Loves_Ron), wants to know how they see themselves. Not physically, but mentally. Who do they see that they are? What type of person (are they a sincere person, complex, , etc.) I like seeing how people see themselves. It always is like a key to who they are and why they are that way.
Ugh. That is a doozy. Okay...
You'll have to work hard to make up a question like that one (mine was lame- I asked what their fav color was)
Ugh that is hard. I'll just use some words that describe me, I think. Okay?
Sounds good to me. Ashley can slap you later if it's not good enough.
Loyal, honest, fair, communicative, courageous, loving and supportive. Whoa. Um... and on the flip side of that, scatterbrained, lazy sometimes and gullible. lmao
Sounds like a Gryffindor to me.
Does it show?? *points to the big red and gold banner behind her*
lol
Should say *Hides the banner* lol
Okay, now it's your turn. What one question do you want to torture the next MotW with?
(oh, dear, I smell something that needs to be changed, brb)
No problem. ... ok... I had to really think hard about this. My hubby thought I should ask about theories for Book 7, but that's kinda lame. So it's personal.
lol (He did a little more *waits until he's done*)
Let's say that creating a Horcrux didn't involve committing an evil act, such as murder, and you find yourself wanting to make one. What object would you choose to store a piece of your soul?
ooo. I like that one!
hehe. A tough one. I wouldn't want to have to answer it.
And lastly, while I go change this poopy diaper, if you were a food, what food would you be?
Oh man. Something with chocolate. And lots and lots of coffee. But not necessarily a chocolate-coffee something. So let's say chocolate chocolate chunk ice cream WITH a cup of greek coffee. So, that’s two somethings. Am I allowed that? If not, then just the Greek Coffee. LMAO I'm not Greek, by the way (just 'adopted Greek') but I LOVE LOVE LOVE Greek coffee.
wow. lol Yummy.
hehe *Assumes you meant the ice cream/coffee and not Xander's business*
Oh definitely not his business.
lmao
impressive blowout
Attaboy.
almost to his neck
Yikes. Better his clothes than you and yours.
Yeah, there was a reason my mom got him two of the same onesie. lol
lmao
So I can pretty much expect all the typos to stay in there and all the off topic stuff kept in and everything, can't I?
Yes, very much so. It's the offtopic stuff that makes the interviews fun.
At least I can edit posts.
And I can find out that you did it.
Did I say that out loud?
Ok, I have to wrap this up because it's time to make dinner: fajitas.
Mmmm... come cook them for me too.
Come on over. Chicken fajitas. We cheat, though.
Oh wait. I have cabbage rolls in the fridge. Nevermind, Go 'way! Cheat how?
I have frozen, precooked, fajita chicken strips that I just microwave, and then all we have to do is cut up veggies. lol
NICE! yummers! Okay. go. Feed your family.
Tune in next week for another brand-spankin' new interview. I'll leave you in suspense as to who it will be
