Your greatest fear come to life!

Have fun dealing with it, human!
Hope had taken a few steps back, half-suspecting what might be inside. And she was right! Spilling out of the trunk were dozens of baby animals of all kinds, all sick and dying and crying out. It was the very worst thing Hope could imagine! "Oh, no!" she cried out softly to herself, then "Don't look!" to the tiny moke--she wasn't even sure if it was still on her shoulder. How did one deal with a boggart? Hope knew she knew this, but it was hard to think with all these emotions going on.

Oh, right--laughter. Find a way to laugh at it. Easier said than done, because there was nothing funny about dying animals as far as Hope was concerned. But finally, in the back of her shocked brain, there came the germ of a thought. Shakily she raised her wand and in a as bold a voice as she could manage she cried out, "Riddikulus!" As she did so, she imagined all the animals springing up and shouting out, "Just fooling!" in little squeaky voices.

Nevertheless, he also wanted to make his teachers proud of him, and not look like a failure to all the other students, and also not get eaten by a zombie. "R-Riddikulus. Riddikulus. Riddikulus..." He was trying his very best, but he wasn't doing very well at all, and he felt more and more helpless as the thing moved closer to him. Whether or not the boggart turned into the friendly yellow bird, Brandon was already sort of fainting-

...Sorry, Professor Khanna... Looking at the boggart was just too much for him (this time, at least).

If there was such reluctance, then Brandon’s safety was very much at heavy risk in the real world should such a situation crop up. Or maybe not?

That attempt at the Boggart Repelling spell finally did some good. Not completely good but enough. With a rather echoing POP!, Brandon’s faux sister disappeared and was replaced by a rather comical but huge yellow bird… without wings. The bird’s expression was a blank was, as though it were shocked to find hands to reach out and grab Brandon.

Best escape while you can, young human!

Dhruv followed their own advice to Brandon and breathed. Had they known about Brandon’s silent apologies, they would have reassured him there was no need for any of that. The attempts to repel the Boggart had been excellent ones, even if the ridiculously yellow bird had no wings. The result seemed to have stymied the Boggart temporarily.

SPOILER!!: Hope!

Even if one didn’t look, they were sure to hear. The cries of despair from each hurt creature, mundane and magical alike, were enough to rip out anyone’s heart. They were all crawling towards Hope as though hoping she would render them assistance.

Would she help them? Or -

The Charm wafted over them in an instant. The pitiful cries died away instantly and happy, healthy creatures suddenly sprang to life. “JUST FOOLING! JUST FOOLING!” they squeaked as they danced in sheer delight.

Excellent use of the Bogart Repelling Charm, Hope!

Which came first, the phoenix or the flame?

Of course, it was better to look at a messed-up cartoon bird than at a lifeless puppet version of a family member. But in Brandon's current state, the bird still seemed like nightmare fuel, like an evil bowling pin with talons and soulless eyes. When he realized that the boggart couldn't grab him, he headed swiftly and shakily towards the mini quidditch pitch, looking more like someone fleeing in terror than like someone who had actually advanced past an obstacle.

When he reached the final area, he decided to stand in the middle and catch his breath- as best he could, anyways. He had a good guess about what the final creature was, and he was relieved that it would be harmless and small. But the creature he expected was quite fast, and Brandon didn't want to be fast and chase things. Instead, he stood there shaking like a leaf and wanting to cry like a statue, waiting for the creature to reveal itself.

Maybe he could use magic to complete this challenge. Or maybe he could befriend the creature and it would decide to take pity on him so that they could both just get this over with...

As she approached the last area, Hope caught sight of a small golden blur whizzing here and there and all around her. She couldn't even get a good glimpse of it until it paused for just a moment on the twig of a nearby tree. Oh, my goodness--could this be what Hope thought it was? If so, it was very, very rare and, as she remembered reading, rather fragile. Hope didn't dare try to catch it with her hands, she might injure it. "What do you think, Jerry?" she said to her loyal moke companion, still on her shoulder after all the boggart trauma. "Could you summon a creature with magic, do you think?" Well, it was worth a try. "Accio, snidget!" Hope intoned, point her want in the general direction of the tiny bird.

She wasn't really at all sure she had come anywhere near her target, but, whether it was magic or just curiosity, suddenly, for just a moment, there was a little, fluffy, nearly-weightless golden creature perched on Hope's outstretched hand that held her wand. For a brief and yet seemingly-endless moment, they all froze there in time and space, just looking at each other--Hope, the golden snidget, and the tiny moke.

Then abruptly the snidget whizzed off again and at the same time, the moke seemed to vanish from Hope's shoulder, and she was left standing alone, at the end of the course.

Okay so since it was a joint lesson with defense, Nadia was leaning towards the more dangerous water creatures and as the creature that controlled the pond appeared she wasn’t disappointed. A Kappa! Not as cute and cuddly as the monkey it sorta resembled. A monkey you might want to hug, but not a kappa. The Gryffindor remembering that the nasty creature liking to try and strangle its enemy targets. She was sooooo not letting that happen, even if the professors would both intervene if it got that bad.

Now how did she keep him from doing so?

Then it came to her…keep the kappa from moving its arms at all. “Petrificus Totalus!” she cast as she took aim. The girl hoping to be accurate enough to cause it to freeze from its quick movements towards her.

As Brandon reached the final obstacle, the Quidditch pitch he would notice right away that it was an average pitch, only scaled down in size. Leaning against the stands were even several brooms and some safety gear. And if Brandon were to listen closely he would hear the faint sound of what could only be a.. snitch? Or uhhh.. was that multiple golden snitches?! No, that couldn't be right now, could it? Better look more closely for a small creature very similar to that of a snitch. Now how are you meant to capture it?

That dear child could be considered sheer curiosity and luck. Accioing a Snidget won't work here. Best to try something else and look around very closely. Did hope take notice of the brooms and other safety gear near the Quidditch stands, just in case? How about the several true golden snitches that were actively zipping around the pitch to try to confuse Hope so she wouldn't be able to keep track of the one and only true Snidget. Surely there was another way to get a hold of this very small harmless creature?
