The tension that began coursing through him only faded when the harsh tone of his guardian did. It had been a jarring transition for the child to begin with and coupled with her trying to REMOVE HIS HANDS as he saw it, it had all become a rather stressful situation for him. Stress was something he dealt with poorly.

Despite not pulling away to have a look, Wyatt could tell they had been joined by yet another person, this one with a deeper voice. He listened to the patterns of speech playing out, becoming only slightly more attentive at the sound of his own name but even then, the child was very much unwilling to cease this clinging.

Wyatt shook his head adamantly at the mention of a nap. No naps. No sleep. He was staying right here.

The action of reaching for the cookie was lost on the boy who up to this point still refused to lifts his face from her neck.

Grant was summoned to Lynley's office. He wasn't sure what it was about but being called into her office didn't seem like a good thing..
He hadn't done anything he could think of that would land him in trouble.
Unless she was really mad about that Whoopee Cushion he'd put in her chair this morning.. Huh.. Maybe that was it.

But he'd always messed with her. Someone had to, she seemed so serious. Like Batman in lady wizarding robes. But he liked her okay. It wasn't like they were friends or anything.. Maybe he should have been worried about his job.

He knocked on her door and awaited a response.

Lynley. Was. Livid.

He had hardly finished knocking when she threw the door open, her nostrils flaring as she looked at Grant.

There were some not PG words flying around. Use your imagination.

"HOW in the WORLD could you let something like this HAPPEN, you bloody IDIOT?!" she resumed her position behind her desk, leaning on it with the palm of her hands as she attempted not to let steam come out of her very red ears. The whole of level six had to hear her right now. She pushed a muggle newspaper article towards him, and then the magical one that had the REAL story in it towards him. It wasn't the Prophet, no. Lynley had done her best to cover it up but who KNEW how long that would last.

"A muggle...almost... died, Grant." Her teeth were showing.

Grant looked shocked, like he didn't know what he was even walking into.. Then the paper was pushed his way, he looked through it and felt the color leave his face... Merlin's Beard.

He looked back up to Lynley after reading the details. "This wasn't me.. I would never make a portkey out of a cellphone. It's likely to be picked up by a muggle and i certainly wouldn't lead it into the ocean." Did she think he was an amature. "The complexity of this doesn't match how stupid you'd have to be to make this mistake.. That tells me this is on purpose."
But it did not come from his office.

And clearly....you didn't know. Who works for you again? Chloe? Archer? Keegan?" had one of THEM done it? She made a face. "Unless it wasn't my department at all. And someone haphazardly making portkeys."

But then...she thought about it.

"I want the log of all the portkeys you've made in the last month. Go get it. Now." Her tone was not a request.

Grant was annoyed on behalf of his people. He knew they were well trained and knew what they were doing. He was also insulted on his own behalf. "Fine." He summoned the papers instead of moving,
it was time to prove her wrong now.

"The technical still required to make a portkey put someone in the ocean doesn't match up with the incompetence it would take to do this by accident." Even if that wasn't enough to tell him this wasn't an accident there was the fact of the evidence log.

"If this came from the ministry it wasn't from our department."

Hmm.

"Are you implying....that this was done...on purpose...to target....a muggle?" she asked, once she had milled over everything he had said. She couldn't quite explain the constriction taking place in her throat, or the heaviness she suddenly felt in her lungs/chest, but her eyes probably showed a hint of her emotion behind her stoic face for only a second before she blinked and looked down Grant's log.

Lynley was......not quick to cry wolf. "I don't want to start anything that I'm not absolutely sure about. I may need to use an auror....without making a big fuss...or something...I don't know." She rubbed the bridge of her nose. "No...nothing else. Leave me with my thoughts."

Now, she was left with whether or not to quickly contact MLE or......hmmm. She swiveled in her desk chair and rummaged through a filing cabinet on the side of her desk before thumbing one out. "Come back at the end of the day,.." she said softly.

Grand knew how serious this all was, but he wasn't telling her what he'd told her based on a hunch. it was all fact in his opinion.

"Of course.. I'll return then." He headed out because what else could he say... and also he didn't want to think about it anymore.. He was just glad he wasn't the department head at the moment.

Tempest knew her weekend was over and the relaxation was gone when she was summoned to the office of the Department Head for Transportation. Honestly she should have felt this way the moment she and Rod parted ways but cloud nine stuck with you sometimes. She'd never met the woman but had heard she wasn't one to be messed with.. very serious. Not that Tempest minded any of those things.
She knew there was a time to work and a time for everything else and when she walked through the doors of the Ministry it was time to work.

Wasn't a more seasoned Auror better? How was this settling.. And what a rousing way to get someone to help you: Telling them that you're settling for them. Now she felt inspired to help. "Right, Auror Cambridge seems to be a favorite around here." Not that she didn't like the younger Auror but like... How did someone so young seem to have so much buzz around her name?

Tempest was out here trying to get crime families off the streets but who cared about that? She was no Alexa Cambridge. "Not exactly. I was told something about someone targeting Muggles with Portkeys?" Which sounded like a nightmare in general. Whoever this individual was had to be a sick person.

Lynley was not in the mood to pity the popularity contest that was the MLE. She merely raised an eyebrow at the woman. "She is one of the few who has shown my department respect. Many aurors are pompous a---" She cleared her throat and rephrased herself. "Many believe themselves above and better than us lowly...typical Ministry people," she said simply. Perhaps it had changed since she last spoke to any other aurors. But she didn't forget her precious treatment.

"Someone is taking muggle things are NOT trash...things muggles would WANT to pick up...and making portkeys out of them. The portkeys almost always lead somewhere....tragic. Middle of the ocean. Mid air above a drop off of a cliff. Places like that." She spoke about it in a matter of fact so she wouldn't feel emotional about it. She had to deal with it with...a lack of emotion. "So...clearly, I need an auror's help. I'm not really sure where to go from here or the process...or any of that."

She clacked her nails on her desk in a seemingly casual manner, but it was nervousness.

"She's little more than a rookie." Honestly the fact that someone under the age of 30 had the title of Head Auror was just obscene after coming from MACUSA. There was one Head Auror there as the name suggested.. much less confusion, honestly. "But i agree, anyone who didn't act like we're all cogs in the same machine isn't someone you should be asking for help." She thought to say sorry for the treatment of other Aurors,
But it wasn't her job to do such things it was her department head's job.

The blonde felt her face grow a bit pale hearing this news though.. This was bad for so many reasons, the exposure of magic, dead innocent people.
"How many times has it happened?" It seemed unimportant but more than three meant a serial killer and that was very very serious. "For starters I'll need a list of everyone who knows how to manufacture a portkey here in the U.K. I imagine it's not terribly long." But that needed to include ex-employees as well as people who may have come from other Wizarding governments. "We also need to consider reaching out to other governments in Europe in case the threat could be coming from one of them." It didn't seem horribly likely to Tempest but it was never a good thing to rule out a possibility until it proved itself to be impossible.

She felt her color coming back to her face, feeling less worried and plotting the investigation in her head.

Alexa Cambridge being a rookie was neither here nor there, but Lynley could sense some bitterness with this woman. Perhaps some jealousy, too, that Alexa was well known within the British Ministry. No matter. Lynley didn't care; she just wanted a competent auror on her side, all right? And this woman seemed like she would do.

"Re...gardless," she said slowly, ignoring some of the woman's words and pushing the file over to her. "The number, now, is up to two," she said softly. "I'm...scared ...that we will soon have a third. I'm not the one trained to see patterns or anything...so...there you are." Ahem. "I have a list of my employees, and they are the only ones who have the authority to make law-abiding and legal portkeys in alllllll the British isle," she cleared her throat again and couldn't help the worried look on her face. "O-other governments? Right now? Shouldn't we wait?" she asked. She didn't want to jump to conclusions or rile anyone up. She had only briefed Gid BRIEFLY, anyhow.

Tempest could see that this woman didn't care.. Ugh. Brits were so odd.. she was getting used to it though. England was slowly becoming home.

She grimaced at the number being so high, this person was one away from Serial Killer status. Which it seemed this person wanted.. They wanted to put on a show, to be seen.. This person wanted recognition. Or they were simply trying to expose magic but there were better ways to do that so this had to be about something else. Something much more dramatic. "Two is very bad.. Maybe we should have someone who specializes in the misuse of muggle artifacts in on this as well." The blonde opened the file and looked at it for a moment before directing her blue eyes back to Lynley. "Maybe and I'll leave that to your discretion since these are your colleagues but keep in mind that they also want to keep their people safe and knowing that we withheld information might upset them just as much. At least being open shows our allies trust." Besides what if the whole thing got out in the paper and everyone found out anyway? It would be better for them to have control of the story rather than the media. "What about past employees that are still living? It could be any number of them as well.. Are they included in this list?" An old person with a grudge and dangerous knowledge was not to be overlooked in her mind.

It was quite a bit to take in.

Lynley took a deep breath. "Yeah...the stuff being used....it's all nice muggle stuff, like cellphones...car keys..." she sighed. "It isn't an accident. None of my people would be dumb enough to make those into portkeys. Plus....right in the middle of the ocean. Each of them," she frowned. "They didn't stand a chance." The muggles, she meant.

"I have a list of my past employees somewhere..." she bite her lip and swiveled in her chair to look in her filing cabinet. As for contacting other ministries.........Lynley still wasn't sure she should. "They've only hit British muggles so far, though."

Well that was not...it was never a good feeling, to hear you are considered in a group of suspects. Even just by protocol. She stiffened slightly in her chair, but nodded. Lynley would have agreed with keeping it from the press, at least in the beginning stages. They would blow this entirely out of proportion, she was sure.

"I agree with you. No press. No thank you. But sure. You can...interview my people whenever you need to....okay?" she bit her lip. "When do you want to start?"

I'd like to give them a fair bit of warning, so maybe after lunch? Or do you need this immediately?" she asked the auror. Tempest didn't play around, did she? Lynley could have respect for that, certainly.

"You can interrogate me, first, too, if you like," she said as she straightened up in her chair.

Tempest wasn't super concerned with things being short notice for anyone.. Especially since there were people who were murdered.. That had to be pretty short notice and they deserved justice. "We can wait until after lunch, but it would be be better if you don't warn them beforehand. If anyone is guilty i don't want to give them time to fabricate an alibi." Because if there was a murderer in the midst that would be the thing they needed to get away. More time.

"Well, as long as you have an alibi for the two hours leading up to all of the murders you're in the clear. so i would only need to ask questions if you don't."
