"Ah level three," he nodded, pretending to know exactly what that meant. In truth he had no idea. There were too many levels and Zander still hadn't matched the names to their floors yet. He'd get there eventually though, but until then... He should've realized that he was doing this to himself. Had he just said Games and Sports, perhaps the guy would've responded with his department title too. He took a sip of his coffee before letting out an embarrassed sort of laugh. "I actually have no idea which department is," he rubbed the back of his neck, hoping he wouldn't regret admitting this. "Help me out?"

Gideon. Zander had to repeat the name to himself of a couple of times, a trick he had learned while in school. When you met a boat load of new students year--ones who expected you to remember their names just because you wore a badge--it was an important skill to master. "Nice to-um-meet you, Gideon," he had to repeat the name back out loud too. That was another pro-trick.

"That's-uh-actually, it's funny that you ask," he leaned back into his chair, trying to make himself more comfortable, something which would hopefully naturally take place the deeper the two fell into conversation. "It wasn't really my first choice, but when I received my placement in the mail... I couldn't turn it down. Y'know how it goes, ha ha ha, that ministry paycheck is far too appealing," he tried to joke, though ultimately it was serious. lol. when you live on a nanny budget for the majority of your post Hogwarts graduation life... A 9 - 5 cubicle job didn't sound all too unappealing any more. "I did do an internship for Ellerby and Spudmore for a while after I got out of Hogwarts though, that might've had something to do with it." It was really his only qualification. That and the fact that his girlfriend was incredible at Quidditch, though that was most likely not a contributing factor.

And given his seemingly new to the ministry feel of course he wouldn’t get what Level 3 referred to. Good going, Gideon. So maybe his cunning wasn’t really working. “I’m sorry,” he apologized, “I forget that just because our department seems to be the fix-it level for all the rest, doesn’t mean it’s known by everyone so don’t feel bad.” Was it just him, or was he rambling now? So he was feeling awkward now. Cue inner sigh that he hid with another sip of his coffee. “Level 3 is Accidents and Catastrophes,” he finally explained. “I work in potions mishaps especially.”

Funny he should ask...

The potioner relaxed as his companion seemed to be more comfortable, listening as his polite, inquisitive question was answered. Gideon nodded in acceptance of his, Zander’s reasoning for accepting an offered job. You didn’t necessarily turn down on what you were offered. You got your foot in the door and maybe transferred if needed. He himself had been thinking more Mysteries as his department but had settled down in A+C at the moment as directed. As for the internship… “Yeah, I suspect that had a decent amount of impact on the matter,” he vocally agreed. “That and if you played quidditch or gobstones or the like in school I suppose.” That would have been the way they would have tried for him but then nowadays he preferred his only flying to involve his animangus wings.

Erec had been working with the minister and his department as well as other department heads for some time on squibs in the ministry. It had been something that Althea had put in her campaign so it was only a matter of time before they got it all together.

He had come early and set out the pamphlets that went with today's discussion. This was a brainstorming meeting that he hoped would educate as well as help people better understand what was needed to be done. Once the pamphlets were all laid out he walked over and grabbed himself a cup of coffee, but left the snacks alone. He would leave those for anyone who came to join him.

Looking at his watch he realized that it was almost time for people to start coming so he took his seat towards the front of the area and sipped his coffee.

As this was one of the topics close to her heart, quite naturally the minister made time to attend the squib meeting. Althea Scabior arrived early. Not too early, mind you, but certainly before the masses. Hopefully there would be a decent number of people in attendance, especially those who it was a relevant topic to their work. She wasn't so sure of the casual setting, but it would do for beginnings, she supposed.

"Erec." She greeted the department head and took a seat. No coffee or snacks for her. A notebook and quill were at hand, charmed and ready to take notes for her.

Addison Anders may be the Department Head for Mysteries but when she heard about all the things that were going on with trying to get Squibs more involved in the ministry, she was all for it. If there was a way that could help them feel more like a part of this community then she was all for it.

Upon entering the coffee club the blue eyed women only saw two others currently in attendance. Was she really that early? She hadn't thought so but maybe. "Hello, Althea, Erec," she greeted with a light smile directed at both the Minister and other department head. While waiting for the others to arrive and the meeting to begin a cup of coffee wouldn't hurt. Preparing herself a cup she went and took a seat, the hot cup cradled in her hands.

Simon quite preferred knowing all that was going on within the Ministry and the various workings there. So when notice of the meeting on Squibs had first come up, the security head had planned it into his schedule. He had nothing against the topic personally or professionally, but he was well aware that it wouldn’t be the case with everyone. Not to mention, there would no doubt need to be concerns addressed that would likely directly affect him and his department. After all, you can’t exactly weigh the wand for security of someone who doesn’t use magic. Or other security measures.

Arriving in the mismatched seating area that had been given as the meeting's location, he noticed he was the only non-department head already there given the Minister of Magic counted as one herself. "Good day, Minister," Simon greeted the woman before acknowledging her companions there as well. "Hello Erec...Addison," the division head greeted with a polite smile and nod.

Ethan Mordaunt was a young man who preferred variety. One could say that he'd bore himself out in no time if he'd been given a strict schedule when it came to his tasks. He'd been looking forward to the MLE Training that Gidyun proposed, but it looked like it got postponed for some reason. Wanting to break his current routine back at CMEC, he'd excused himself from his immediate boss and went straight for this meeting. He could bet his university degree that he's got zero in-depth knowledge about Squibs, or even specific movements to support them in the Wizarding Community. It was, quite frankly, enough for the young Ministry personnel to get his gears going and out of the laboratory in no time.

Problem was, he got lost. He went up, down, and sideways using the lift and couldn't for the life of him, find the meeting place. Was it a super secret hideout, or was he just being cocky for not asking directions? The smell of coffee beans draw the young forensic technician into the area and was quite surprised to see a few important looking people in there, including the Minister.

Ooh. Did he walk into something...private? And what was Simon doing here? Ethan quietly made his way inside, got himself a cup of coffee and stood by a man who seemed to be waiting for more people to come in. "Hey. Hi." Grin. "What's going on? Am I...interrupting something?" As much as he wanted to get settled in a cosy looking armchair by the corner, he didn't want to come off as rude by trespassing someone else's meeting, given that he's fairly new in the Ministry.

Erec continued to sip his coffee as he waited but waiting he didn't do for long when the first person arrived. "Hello Minister, welcome." Not that she needed an invitation this was her ministry. "Thank you for joining us, as soon as others come we will get started." For someone who enjoyed the more laid back world and felt that employees that were comfortable were more eager to help out and work hard this seemed the perfect setting to the man.

More were coming in now too and Erec gave them all a smile. He liked being in front of people, not in a look at me type of way, but he enjoyed leading things and knowing he was making a difference. He may not have any close family that was squibs but he did have a passion for making the world a better place, which he tried to strive for in his department with foreign policies, communications, and over all relationships.

"Hello Everyone" Seeing another lady walk in and then a man that seemed to not have got the memo about the meeting. "We are holding a ministry wide meeting about squibs in the ministry. Now hopefully more will come as the meeting goes on, but I'd like if you could all take some information that I will be discussing today." He had the packets at the table next to him.

Lynley felt this was an....interesting, important topic to cover. She was a wee bit late to the meeting, but she was fairly on time considering the meeting had only just begun. She grabbed a packet as Erec started the meeting and went to take a seat. She was quiet, but watching the small lot of them curiously. Althea had come; good good. Not too many people were here, and this made Lynley feel uneasy. Were people not also invested in squib rights? Hmmm.

It made her have a bad taste in her mouth.

She waited for Erec...or someone to introduce a topic. Hmm. "Good day, everyone," she said quickly as she nodded at the others there.

It was mostly out of curiosity that Gabby had decided to make her way over to this meeting. Not that she had anything AGAINST squibs, she just didn't KNOW any. As a result of that, she hadn't really spent much time considering them and their rights. As long as this wasn't boring as some of the things that got covered, she would feel that her time wasn't wasted.

Looked like she was a little late for the meeting, in fact she was slipping in right after Lynley. Grabbing a packet, she sent her friend a smile. Addi got one as well.

Ethan held his coffee cup in one hand, as he listened to the man who appeared to be the one leading the group activity. When he mentioned that the gathering was about the Squibs in the Ministry, the CMEC Specialist drew his attention back to his coffee cup. "Oh, so this is the Underground Coffee Club!" Well, good going, Sherlock Holmes. "I actually got lost, looking for this place." he said waving the Squib Meeting notice that Gidyun left for them to read. Without another word, and to save himself from further embarrassment, Ethan pushed himself off the wall, picked up a packet and headed for the cosy armchair that he saw from earlier.

"Hello, hi, good day," he said with a grin to those who were already in attendance, and took a seat at the back where he could see everything. But back to Squibs, Ethan could not help but think about that time when Mordred went on about having a squib in the family. If his memory was correct, it was a male cousin, but he wasn't sure if he existed at all. At that time, Mordred didn't care about his cousins from their Uncle Alpheus, and wasn't even aware of Ethan's existence until he was older. Hmm.

The place that Erec chose as a meeting place was... well, odd to say the least. Mariel would probably never choose to "hang out" here for a cup of coffee. In fact, had she even known this place existed? That was really beside the point though because what was important was the reason for the meeting, so she would forgive Erec for the strange location.

Choosing to stand for now, Mariel reached over and took one of the packets her fellow department head offered to everyone present. She was interested in what information he thought he could provide today and how her department could get involved. She didn't employ anyone who was a squib on level seven, but perhaps that would be an option if any in the community were interested. Plus she knew several squibs personally.

A squib meeting. Now Victoria had been one of the people that truly followed the campaign during election season. She wanted to know the views on squibs and what we could do to make their lives better and more accepting of the wizarding world. At the time her daughter hadn't been confirmed, but she had her fears and now a few years later it was fully confirmed by healers that her daughter was a squib. A twin now watching her sister do all the magical things and about to get her letter to Hogwarts. This hadn't been an easy adjustment and the house had been rocky for the last year.

Seeing the memo that the squib meeting was going to take place, Victoria canceled a meeting with a few owners to be there. This was a priority at the moment and she would do anything needed to help whatever this was about. Stepping into the coffee area she moved to be next to Mariel and gave her friend and boss a smile. Picking up a packet she flipped through it as it seemed the meeting hadn't fully started.

Good, she hated being late.

Javier really didn't care too much about Squibs. He didn't know any, and he coudn't possibly imagine being a Squib and not being able to do magic. He supposed he should have an open mind though - especially since his daughter was still too young to really show her true potential. Who knew, maybe she WOULD be a Squib. Then he would obviously care about this a LOT.

Also, Mariel had said they needed to go. Sooooo.

"Need any help?" he asked with a smile as he entered the room. How much help could they possibly need setting up a seminar about Squibs, though?

It had been some time since Charely walked through these halls in the Ministry. That would explain his late arrival, other than arranging his co-director to take over at his school. There were important matters to discuss which led him to be here today. The discussion on Squibs. His daughter was one and her twin was about to leave her behind within a few months. It was a challenging transition since they started their final year at PWS.

After arriving, Charely went on to stand by Vic and Mariel, giving them a brief smile before turning to face the gentleman up front. He wondered how this discussion will fare.

Vickers turned the corner and politely made his way towards one of the tables, a copy of the flyer in one hand. He was pureblood, and squibbing wasnt really a concern in their family tree, but he wanted to attend nonetheless. He knew all too well of how some Wizarding families that shares his prestige are not taking too kindly to the misfortunes of their magical brethren. Goodness knows what disaster that could bear if they were to find a way to influence things that could spell disaster to Squibs everywhere.

Good, good more were coming. He watched as they took packets and got settled in. Seeing someone come in asking what he could do to help Erec smiled. "Right now just grab a packet and some coffee if you'd like." That was for everyone else as well. He gave a nod to Mariel as she had come in. Glad to have family working along side of him as well as someone he knew would support things that needed to be done. Glancing at his watch and seeing Charely Potter walk in he knew it was time to continue to move.

"Now I know it's 2093 and some might be sitting here wondering why we still need to be educated and why we are still talking about equality for squibs and everyone for that matter." He didn't want some thinking this equality was just for one group though today the focus was squibs. "Squibs have done many great things already for our wizarding world. They have gone into the muggle world to help our ministry keep our secret. We have many that are doctors and nurses working in hospitals and can notice if a muggle says someone injured had a weird stick on them or that someone was acting off to a muggle. We have squibs in the primary schools as teachers, as law enforcement, and many other positions. " This was always a great thing to know how much good they have done for them.

"What this meeting is for today is to move into the right direction in opening up jobs not in the muggle world for them, but right here in the ministry and our community. Many still feel they aren't welcomed in our community fully because they don't carry a wand and can't do the magic we do. In your packet, you will find a list of jobs in most of the departments that could very well be done by a squib. I'm not saying that will take from anyone else's jobs, but this could open the door for more opportunities." He opened the packet to the page he was talking about. He wasn't sure if they had any squibs here at the meeting today, but if he did he'd love if they would speak up.

"Now I want today to be an open discussion so anyone that has thoughts on this matter please let us know. I want to know ways we could make more opportunities happen and ways to bring advertisement to squibs on job openings. If you know anyone looking for a position and could be qualified for an opening please make sure you get them in to apply."

He let them look over this for a moment before he would speak again on the youth and how they could help on that end. Plus he'd be introducing his special guest, Mr. Potter, when they spoke about the opening of the newest addition to his school.

Fulton made his way the meeting that he had been told about...
He thought it was a brilliant idea to talk about the challenges of raising a squib in a magically world... To try and mix the non magical with the magical and the difficulties that may arise when raising one.

He smiled as he entered, but Fulton being Fulton wasn't the type to approach anyone and strike up a conversation... not that he wouldn't talk to people.. he just wasn't a conversation starter..

As soon as he'd seen Mariel's notice about the upcoming meeting, Adam had jotted it in his diary, and was now sat, nursing a coffee and flicking through the information pack he'd been given. Working with Travis at Stemp House, Adam knew first hand how Squibs could influence and help their lives - and, honestly, had been ignorant to them until Lorelai had received Trav's job application. Nevertheless, even before he'd come to work with them, the man had proved a valuable asset in the Care system, helping young wizards without families, who couldn't discuss their situation with just anyone.

So, yeah, vested interest and all that. He leaned back on his chair, crossing one foot onto the opposite knee, and continued reading: he'd offer his two sickles on the matter once he'd got to grips with the literature. But as for Squibs he knew and putting them forward for jobs... Well, he wasn't prepared to lose Travis just yet.

This was making her very anxious, she wasn't one to be anxious but having this front in center in her mind always was something that was giving her more anxiety than she would ever admit. She stood quietly next to Mariel until she had a moment to gather her thoughts and picked up a cup of coffee and a packet. She listed as Erec started and nodded along with his words. This was good to hear, even in the muggle world maybe Alana could help and feel connected if she would want to go in that direction, but hearing about opportunities here in their ministry was great. She thought of a handful of things in level seven she knew squibs could probably easily do along side of her even.

The figure that moved next to her did come as a shock. She stood for a moment and just looked at Charely. He hadn't been in the ministry in years and her ex-had just shown up to a meeting that was fully aligned with their personal lives. They had been in discussion about the options, this was why he was here wasn't it? He was going to announce the options and let people know.

She reached over and squeezed his arm to let him know she was glad he was there.

Wow, a bunch of people just turned up at one time, and she had to say...she was quite pleased about it. Lynley didn't know any squibs, and now she was curious....if there were any hidden amongst the ministry employees? Hmm. Erec spoke a good bit, but it was okay. He wasn't blubbering on aimlessly.

No one was speaking, so Lynley stood up first...to...get it going.

"I'm sure there are jobs in each department already that could go to squibs. And on top of that, some jobs don't require magic, but we use it in those jobs to make everything easier. Like any job to do with filing or organization. They don't need to be able to perform magic for that." She said to begin with. "And...those in childcare...or the food...front desk workers...those are all jobs we can easily give to squibs. But I want...us to be very careful with how we handle this. I wouldn't want us to look like we give the menial, or lesser jobs, to squibs in...the wrong light." She hoped she was making sense.

Don't blame him for being late. There had been a bunch of things to do in the department and Lucas had just gotten lost with the time. Even a reminder by Mariel hadn't helped much. Still not done with the tasks he had planned to complete before the meeting (and mentally kicking himself), Lucas headed for it anyway.

He slipped in, joining the others, just as everything got started. "Perfect timing,'' the man thought. He zoned in immediately even ignoring the others that had gathered there for now. His eyes moved to Lynley, thoroughly agreeing with each word she said. Lucas had something to add as well. "The latter of what Lynley said is very important. Offering jobs that seem menial could be taken as we're looking down on them. How about them being paired with employees whose jobs do not require a lot of magic? Take for example, Quidditch Public Relations Officers whose job is to look over the creation and distribution of league schedules, individual game programs ecetera. Not much magic is involved so if there is someway we can work this out, it would be great. Maybe even put them on a probationary period first to see if they're fit for the job.'' Just tossing that out there. Carry on, everyone.

Apparently, it had all of a sudden become the Carter family's job to run completely counter to everything that was going on in the Ministry. A position that Sky wasn't exactly comfortable with. Nope, this was more her aunt's wheelhouse. She personally was more comfortable with slight mischief (blame her mom's influence). But since she was currently the only Carter here......

.....and they were moving ahead as if this was a thing that was already happening. That fact was a thorn in her side. "Hold on a min. Shouldn't there be a public comment period on this matter before we move full steam ahead? I mean, I think that was a part of what caused the problems with the activists at the WERPS conference. They felt like the idea was being forced upon them instead of them having a say and being listened to. The same could happen here if we're not careful." Yes, she realized the Minister was here. Which made what she was saying all the more important, she felt. "Also, and I'm sorry Minister, but why now? Why now, when you've had your whole term to do these things slower and properly? And now that you only have a year and a half left of your term, you're trying to shove both your environmentalism and squib measures through?"

Yes, she realized the uproar that was probably about to rain down upon her, unfortunately. It was why she hated being in this position and why she wished her Aunt Roxi was here to deal with it. She was much better at it than Sky was, considering it was a position she'd been in plenty of times. Sky, not so much.

OK, this was a total mistake. Javier shouldn't have come here. He hated politics, and suddenly this whole meeting had taken a very political turn. He looked over at the girl who decided to take out her grievances on the Minister, dark eyebrows wrinkling. He had intended to sit here quietly and not do, well, ANYTHING, but he could feel that burning feeling in his stomach that he often got before his mouth got him in trouble. But first, he had to establish himself as an actual, credible figure in this debate by contributing something useful...

"I'm sure if we really put our minds to it, there are jobs all OVER the Ministry we can tailor to accommodate Squibs. Obvious exceptions would be Aurors, Obliviators, probably some folks in Mysteries...but if we all examine our OWN departments are look for ways to make adjustments here or there, it seems easy. To me at least. I'd happily do it in my own department," he added. He wasn't SERIOUS of course but he was pretty sure Games and Sports would be one of the easier departments to...convert to Squib-friendly.

NOW, for the chatterbox next to him. He turned to her, arms crossed. "Inclusion shouldn't even be an issue. We're talking about PEOPLE here. They have every right to work just as we do. If people think it's being shoved down their throat as a purely political thing, they're missing the bigger picture here," he snapped before turning back to the main speaker...guy.
