Default Work Area

WORK AREA
This highly secure and meticulously organised space is dedicated to the effective administration and enforcement of magical laws. To gain entry, employees are confronted by an imposing concrete wall, its surfaces stark and unadorned, creating an atmosphere of both austerity and authority. The only feature marring the wall's grey façade is a sleek, enchanted magical identification system, embedded flush against the concrete. This system scans one's wand, ensuring that only authorized personnel gain access to the work areas beyond.

Once permitted beyond the wall, employees enter a vast open-plan area punctuated by groups of cubicles. The cubicles are constructed from dark, matte metal, their angular forms reflecting the minimalist and brutalist design ethos. The area is divided into distinct sections, each tailored to support the unique functions and responsibilities of the various divisions within the department. Enchanted lighting adjusts automatically to maintain optimal working conditions, and the environment is equipped with magical enhancements to support productivity, security, and effective law enforcement.

The work area is divided into several distinct sections, each dedicated to the specific divisions of the department:
WORK AREA, NORTH SIDE

Quote:
Magical Evidence & Retrieval Team
This division is dedicated to the collection and analysis of magical evidence. The walls of these cubicles display reference guides on evidence-handling procedures and magical forensic techniques. Desks are equipped with evidence files, analysis reports, and magical retrieval equipment. Specialised magical analysis tools, evidence cataloging systems, and secure storage for sensitive materials can be located in the Magical Forensics Lab and Evidence and Pensieve Rooms.

Improper Use of Magic Office
This section is focused on investigating and managing cases of unauthorized magical activity. The walls of these cubicles are adorned with charts and posters detailing the latest magical laws and case studies. Desks are equipped with enchanted record-keeping devices, magical communication tools, and case files related to incidents of magic misuse.

Wizengamont Adminsitration Services & British Office of Wizarding law
This section handles administrative duties for the Wizengamot and oversees legal matters for the British wizarding community. The walls of these cubicles are decorated with procedural guides, case law summaries, and court case schedules. Desks are equipped with enchanted legal reference materials, communication devices for liaising with legal professionals, and case files.
WORK AREA, SOUTH SIDE

Quote:
Magical Law Enforcement Patrol
Employees in this area oversee the enforcement of magical laws and regulations. The walls of these cubicles are decorated with maps of patrol zones, updated incident reports, and strategic guidelines for various law enforcement scenarios. Desks feature communication devices for coordinating with field agents, magical surveillance tools for monitoring ongoing operations, and files containing patrol schedules and enforcement protocols.

Auror Headquarters
The Auror Headquarters is the command center for elite law enforcement officers tasked with handling high-profile and dangerous magical cases. The walls of these cubicles are lined with maps, case dockets, and strategic plans for ongoing investigations. Desks are equipped with advanced magical artefacts for surveillance and communication, as well as personal case files and investigative resources.

Ministry Security
This division manages the overall security of the Ministry. The walls of these cubicles feature security schematics, monitoring system displays, and emergency response protocols. Desks are equipped with magical security tools, communication devices for coordinating with security personnel, and logs of Ministry-related incidents.

A lighter bit of drama within the 30+ years of his working at the ministry…that might be considering a tall order for his memory.

One set in particular came to mind but before he could speak they were joined by another in the office. Ronan had joined and spoke on some of the more dangerous happenings of the Ministry in the last several years. The war of course having had effected more than just the seat of wizarding world government and Hogwarts and needed no elaboration. Simon wasn’t sure what to make of the younger man who he in some ways still saw as so new to things, the downfall of being the old man of the department. Though he almost wished perhaps this conversation had been happening in his office…less chance of interruptions.

Well, he hadn’t officially taken it back as of yet.

Not that he was making his feelings noticeable, his attention brought back to Sookie to give her an answer to her question, merely nodding at her thanks directed at both of them. All in the days work after all. “There are always the various ministry elections,” he mused innocently enough given one of his companions. “Always entertaining if not what one is entirely expecting.”

Clutching a purple interdepartmental memo from DIMC in his hand, Hugo made his way around the north side of the work area. He was looking for someone, but who, he wasn’t entirely sure at the moment. Most people were doing a good job of avoiding eye contact. ”Alright,” he said after a moment. ”I need a volunteer.” He didn’t really need an auror, in fact any of the YATIs would be perfect. Perhaps he could a get a few volunteers to come forward. The memo wasn't the only job he wanted to dish out today, but his employees didn't need to know that. Cart before horse after all. The memo needed to be dealt with first.

He turned in a small circle. ”Anyone?” If nobody volunteered, he'd have to assign someone.

Paperwork. The least favorite part of his particular job. Obviously when one took a job as an auror, they were looking for action, not paperwork, so his dislike of the stuff was understandable. But he was doing it. The paperwork.

Ronan yawned, stretched and was contemplating checking the break room vending machine situation when Bumble came in looking for a volunteer. "What's the job?" He knew better than to just automatically volunteer for something without getting all the facts first. One didn't live for 32 years (when did he get so old?!) without learning that lesson. That was how you ended up tangling with creatures best left to the pit of darkness from which they came. Speaking of creatures, this better not be another mermaid thing. He'd had enough of them to last a lifetime.

Default Ha, yes, so this post is supposed to go here... I'm not a complete mess up.
*randomly tagged* | Norbert(a) | The Wandmaker (tm)

”Mr. Carter,” His eyes landed on the paperwork sitting on the auror’s desk. Ronan seemed to have a way of popping up and getting involved in everything. He wondered why that was? Did Carter just have extremely good or bad luck or was he simply that good? Maybe he was just a busy-body, because he certainly wasn’t a brown noser. ”Where is the fun in that?” He really would rather send a YATI, but as nobody else spoke up…he guessed he could spare Carter.

Hugo made a show of unfolding the purple interdepartmental memo in his hands. As he did so, he might have flashed the DIMC logo. ”It seems our friends in International Magical Cooperation could use some help…how’s your Gobbledegook?”

If he knew the thoughts going on in his boss's head, he'd be both amused and annoyed. Annoyed because he definitely wasn't a busy-body and he'd resent the thought. Amused because he at times questioned his own luck. But ultimately, he was just that good, both at sniffing out trouble and making people wonder. Both of which he prided himself on and made him wonder why, exactly, he wasn't at least a senior auror or even head yet, but shh. Luckily for both of them though, legilimency wasn't a skill he'd felt the need to pick up over the years.

Okay, so mystery job it was, then. "Just making sure there's no vampires involved," Ronan replied lazily. He seemed to unfortunately be unimmune to their charms. "Or merpeople."

Ooooh, goblins. Cantankerous little buggars that he avoided whenever possible. Grreeat. "Non-existant. If the goblins in question speak English, French or Latin however....." Yeah, he hadn't felt the need to learn the language, seeing as the goblins at Gringotts spoke English well enough and very little of his money remained there anyway (it was mostly in the muggle banks). Wait, where was their most recent recruit? Bernadette, wasn't that her name? Perfect job for her.

Having left Sophie after catching up with the news of the family and the floo network, Simon had finished up a task or two down on the middle levels before heading back up to Level Two. With Conley aware of the situation as per his friend, it was likely he’d be passing on the information to his fellow department heads, so the security head felt that it was likely he not necessarily needed to fill in his own boss. Though he’d be checking in about it at some point. For now, he entered the Law Enforcement work areas on the way to his office to work on some paperwork.

The stuff that never ends.

He was aware of the said boss in the area and paused in case he or his division were needed. However, as Hugo was speaking with Ronan he took it to mean it was auror business and while it was what he began his time in the department as, he had been clearly reminded in his previous extended absence from the ministry that he wasn’t still one. And he wasn’t in the mood to interrupt the young Carter’s conversation unless pulled into it so he continued towards the security side.

By habit Simon had gotten in early ready to begin the new year as much as he enjoyed the break. Having spent some time in the atrium with his workers there, the security head made his way up to Level 2 figuring to be out of the way when Noah had gotten in. After his son had asked to come separately, the last thing that needed to happen was having him there when the younger Bennett was checking in. He had also made himself NOT have the wand weighers notify him when he passed through.

Didn't mean he didn't leave an assignment for the security officers stationed up on Level 1.

He had to show he cared in some way. That was his argument and he was sticking to it. Simon chuckled at the thought of the future encounter as he looked through a folder he had picked up on his way as he made his way through the department into the main work area. Doing his best not to think on the fact he was old enough to have a son also at the ministry.

With the holidays now over, it was time to get back into the swing of things. To add to this newly refreshed energy from the break was her promotion to IUMO Senior Investigator. So, there was most certainly a reinvigorated sense of spirit being able to walk into the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. The auburn-haired, emerald-eyed, Selene Latimer would be seen walking into the work area with this previously mentioned 'pep in her step'. The woman would be dawned in a sky-blue jumpsuit with a matching blazer to mark some sense of formality seeing that it was the first day back. Its legs would come down to a slight flare, giving it a bit of a bell-bottom type shape, but not a drastic one. The outfit still allowed for movement should the need arise, but that was highly unlikely. Worse came to worse Selene could do a quick change with some transfiguration. It was simply to be expected that this first day would be menial tasks, greeting the new members and desk work. It never hurt anyone to still be prepared and braced for the unexpected though.

Part of this preparation was also already coming in with a travel mug of tea; English Breakfast with a dash of milk and some honey to sweeten it up. It would be the first thing she'd set down on her desk when making her way there, after taking a sip of course. This was followed by the usual things being set down as well, a notepad with some pens and pencils, a quill with a pot of ink, and her bag. But Selene herself wouldn't sit down just yet, she'd remain standing and leaning on the side of the desk to see who else was coming in after her.

It was an utter crime that YATI members had no desk of their own.

AN UTTER CRIME.

Despite this horrendous mistreatment of the future generation of the Ministry, Nova, was determined to use her limited free time to find fellow MLErs so that she could engage them in meaningful conversations about their work. Nova loved learning about the various jobs in the department, something which she had started paying rapt attention to on her last visit to the Ministry {prior to officially joining it}.

Nova completely bypassed her dad’s office; there would always be time to bother her lovely papa bear. In any case, she knew all about his job description. She stepped gracefully into the Work Area and promptly took notice of the rather well dressed woman. If Nova recalled correctly, this was Selene whom she had met briefly at the orientation thingy the Ministry kept at the start of each new year.

“Good morning,’’ Nova chirped. “You look like a woman all set to conquer the day.” This in itself, was also Nova Leigh Paton’s style.

The turning of the new year was always a questionable passage of time. On the one hand, it meant they were back at work and Simon didn’t have to be stressing over what could possibly go wrong when they were forced from the building by the holiday closure. On the other hand, the security head had to see both what actually did happen and just how the new employees that had joined the various ranks were going to make the workplace…interesting. Which included the occasional changing of the guard in leadership like the loss of his friend that became the promotion of an auror who had come after.

At least Franklin Paton was someone he didn’t feel he had to worry about like some previous department heads they had been saddled with over the many years he had been with the MLE.

The addition of his daughter as a YATI…definitely an interesting addition.

But so far so good it had been in the early days, Simon having already made sure rounds had been done by him and his employees in each of the levels so the security of such was updated to a clean slate of trouble. And now he was back up to Level 2 to check in for the day. He noted others in the office including said YATI and their Senior Investigator from Improper Use. “Good morning,” he greeted as he entered the communal work space, his feet heading in the direction of his division and ultimately his office.

If one was familiar with one Ronan Carter, one might notice a bit more...buoyancy to his steps as he entered the offices, a cup of takeout coffee in hand. Now, what could possibly be the cause of that? He wasn't about to tell. Actually, he wanted to see who could figure it out first. A guessing game, if you would. His eyes did slide across the room, stopping where the Auror desks were for a minute or two, scanning to see who had arrived already (he was pretty early) until he spotted Simon. "Mornin'" he greeted with a knowing smile before taking a sip of his coffee.

Also, what was Paton Jr. doing with Latimer?

It wasn't too long before the first of the few would trickle in after the Senior Investigator. One of the new hires, a YATI if she was recalling things correctly; specifically of the Paton family. That really is such a large and illustrious family... Her thought would start, then flowing onto And placed in the same department as one of her other family members which is nice for the two of them.

Selene noticed Nova essentially making a beeline towards her, seemingly wanting to chat. First though, before the conversation was fully struck up, the lass would also see Simon enter, followed by Ronan. She'd give a polite wave to the two of them, followed by a general and cheery "Good morning!" Being done so in response to the former's gesture.

Then, only a second or two after this, she'd turn her attention now to the woman standing before her. It was always nice to see new hires essentially and immediately intermingling with their coworkers, so it was very pleasant to see that Nova would be doing so. "Good morning to you as well, and what can I say? I try to be at least." Selene would reply back to the compliment. Likewise offering a similar-minded one "The same can be said about yourself. You're one of the new YATI's, correct? Hope you're excited about your first day on the job if that's the case. And to properly introduce myself since I didn't get the chance to at the orientation, the name's Selene Latimer; one of the investigator's for the IUMO here." She'd also further extend a hand for the lady to shake should she want.

Yes, indeedy! The Paton family was a big one with four kiddos and two parental units. And Nova happened to be the oldest Paton baby, the one who was quite determined to follow in her papa bear’s footsteps. So far, it seemed she was right on track.

As Nova skipped her way over to Selene, it couldn’t be missed that the older woman was waving at someone behind Nova. Pausing to peer over her shoulder, she saw it was Simon and Ronan. “Good morning!’’ But since Nova was on a mission, she continued towards Selene.

Oh my, that seasoned DLMer knew how to make a newbie feel flattered and welcomed! “I try as well. Yes, I am. The name’s Nova in case you forgot.” That latter comment was not meant to be taken in a hostile manner; it was known that not everyone could recall everyone’s name from just one orientation meeting. “That’s okay! I’m thrilled to meet you, Ms. Latimer! Actually, I would love to hear about your job. Do you reckon you’ve got some time for me to pick your brain?”

And to properly introduce myself since I didn't get the chance to at the orientation, the name's Selene Latimer; one of the investigator's for the IUMO here." She'd also further extend a hand for the lady to shake should she want.

Oh, this was superb indeed.

Although the hand to shake seemed to be politely declined, that was no matter. As Nova went on to speak, that hand would instead be casually and slyly maneuvered over to the thermos of tea she had resting upon the corner of her desk. Taking a small sip from it once it was within her grasp, but still listened with due intent as the woman went on to further introduce herself. Selene wouldn't have been able to say that she fully remembered the YATI's name off the top of her head, however, upon it being said, it was ringing some bells. So one could say, in the long run of things, it was much better hearing the name this second time around. Given the circumstance of properly being introduced to one another would also help the Senior Investigator to remember it as well. Once the Latimer lass was able to put a name to a face, the two stuck together like two pieces of paper that had been gorilla-glued to one another.

Smiling courteously, she'd take another small sip of her tea; waiting to respond as she felt there was at least slightly more Nova was about to say. Lo and behold, there was, which was great just like the excited energy that was being shown by the new hire. It was certainly no wonder why she had received the position of YATI, as there seemed to just be an abundance of charisma which was shown by each and every word that was spoken. And what more could there be of literal icing on the cake than the fact the Paton family member wanted to know more about Selene's job here; for if there was one thing the former Ravenclaw loved, it was talking about these types of things and herself. She wasn't necessarily the most humble of people in that sense after all.

So, eye's alight with the same amount of passion that was being shown, Selene would go on to say "Well, it's good to know then that there will be someone as fabulous as myself in this department then. Speaking of fab, the name is absolutely to die for; Nova is oh-so unique." As it would seem, the lady certainly lived up to her namesake as well, sporting enough energy to fuel a supernova. But that was a marvelous trait to be had. "And please, the pleasure is mine Ms. Paton. Of course, I have a few moments here, especially to go on and on in good conversation. As Senior Investigator, I take the lead on some of the cases regarding the improper use of magic specifically, not as nearly as fun as what you'll be doing. Still fun, nonetheless. Typically, work for me is also focused here, but fieldwork still does occur and that's ultimately one of my most personal favorites about the job."

Taking another sip, Selene would further state "Certainly you must still have some questions about it though. I'll give you three." This was being dictated with a clear tone of playfulness to her voice. As if she wanted to make it into a small little ice-breaker game that one would do back in school. "Hopefully, you'll also grace me with saying a bit more about your job and what you're most looking forward too as well."

A polite nod was sent Selene and Ms. Paton’s way as the Investigator and YATI said their good morning in return, the security man leaving them to their conversation with his attention brought to the newest arrival in the office. “Morning,” Simon returned Ronan’s greeting, a soft polite smile of his own. There were still times the other man tried his patience just like his mother, but shared experiences over the years like the war had filed away at the harshness they might have dealt each other in the early days. Maturity undoubtedly helped there too.

Simon might have opted to return to his original path and continue on to his office to see what was what in the paperwork department, but there was something about his companion that made him stop again. Nope…Carter had gotten his attention and he looked back at the younger man with a slightly raised eyebrow. Had he been wearing glasses (like the pair of readers he occasionally snuck on his face in the privacy of his office as a courtesy of getting old) his gaze would be over the upper rim questioning the head auror without words.

Out with it.

Ah yes.

Such a thing had happened more than once where Nova, in all her glorious excitement and bubbliness, quite missed the extended hand. It had happened on her last visit here at the Ministry just before she had commenced her final year at Hogwarts. To this day she remained quite oblivious to that missed opportunity, and most likely the same would happen here since Selene was so sleek in withdrawing her hand.

Er…

Was it a bad time to go on with all the questions despite Selene’s crystal patience and attentiveness. Perhaps she should offer to have this chat later… the eager side of her disagreed, hence the hesitation of her getting the offer out in time. This was a good thing because unless Nova was mistaken, Selene was thrilled to have a platform to answer the onslaught of questions. “Oh, stop it, you! You’re far more fab!” Nova batted her lashes, extremely thrilled that Selene was so laid back. “Thank you! It was a lovely gift from mama and papa dearest! They’re wonderful at picking names! But please call me Nova. None of that ‘Ms. Payon’ business. If anything, it’s me who should be calling you ‘Ms. Latimer’ since you’re my superior.’’ Manners. Nova had them!

“But that sounds super exciting still! I reckon you see a lot of crazy stuff… got any memorable ones you can share?” Nova was all ears. “Only three?” She smirked for a bit. “Surely you don’t think that such an important job as yours could be weeded down into three quick questions?” Yes, Nova was being playful right back, even if she had already asked one. “Well, for now, I’m basically training, which is the obvious answer. But probably the most exciting bit is having to shadow Aurors! There’s so much I know I’ll learn; all those stealth techniques waiting for me to master, all those ‘quick thinking’ scenarios that await…” There was now a dreamy look on the young woman’s face. “Basically, I just want to be out in the field often.”

It was indeed, to be said that in this current moment, the Senior Investigator was cool, calm, and collected. Those who know her however, also would be privy to know this wasn't always the case of the matter. A lot of times she was relatively hot-headed to say the least. Though the atmosphere at this current time allowed her to be as nonchalant as she was. Nothing was being done or said to make her emotions tick, therefore she didn't feel the need to act on them. After all, there was no harm in harmless conversation given the topic was as light as the mood of the room. Nova would be correct in assuming that Selene was thrilled to be talking about this, even though it wouldn't come across too extreme besides the brief prior mention of her saying that she was always down for a conversation.

The YATI would get a small laugh at her stating none of the 'Ms. Paton business' for it was funny and would take some getting used to being labeled as another person's superior in the workplace. "Oh please, even if that is the case, still call me Selene. And why thank you again for the previous compliment, I think we'll have to agree to disagree though that we're equally as fab." She'd begin, also displaying an equal level of manners that Nova was showing Selene. For if there was one thing that Selene was always consistent on, it was giving the same energy that she was shown; even though that was a bit contradictory with being hot headed on occasion. That was something to debate in and of itself, but for another time if that time ever arose. Highly doubted that said thing would ever occur in the presence of the young Paton though if things went as smoothly as they were now.

"Hmmm...well, there was this one case about a year or two-" Maybe even three or four at this point, time just seemed to fly by so fast, it was extremely hard for the auburn haired woman to keep up with it all. But she wouldn't mention that specifically in the moment, "-back, there was this case of some cursed crystal balls being distributed. It was the Gemino curse mixed with the Conflagration curse if my memory serves me correctly." Selene's voice would start to trail off while she took a sip of tea, before continuing "So, it was certainly...something to handle, but nonetheless the distributor was apprehended and it was still fun to work on. Curse breaking is something which I absolutely adore." Which brought to the next part of the conversation, also gaining another small laugh from Latimer at the question of only three. There was that good point which Nova made, it would be rather challenging to narrow the line of thinking down to three simple questions in a vast sea of them. But... "Consider it something like training; certainly at some point in your career here you'll be privy to doing interrogations. So when doing those, you'll most likely wanna get your answers in as few amount of questions as possible."

She'd smile however at the joy which read from the other lass as she'd explain the bits and baubles of being a YATI, paired alongside the things that she was most looking forward to. The latter two which were spoken, Selene also had quite the interest in, field work especially. "Well, if you ever need an additional hand on concealment charms, come see me and I'd be happy to help. It is what I have my Master's degree in after all, so I consider myself to be a bit of an expert on those." Twas just a casual and small boast. The former Ravenclaw wasn't afraid to toot her own horn in terms of displaying her forte in magic. Especially if it could be of help to another person. "Regardless, that is still fun to hear that you're looking forward to those things. Some would consider it daunting to have to work as closely with Aurors as you will be doing, but it's good to see that you certainly aren't letting that weigh you down."

That was something Nova could understand and respect. Adapting from one moment to another and knowing how to carry yourself during them was important. Not to mention it was probably required especially for a senior employee like Selene. Perhaps one day Nova would be able to conquer this but for now, she was content on being overly bubbly.

“Hm, I suspect it’s a fair request. Selene it is!” Nova, of course, will still be respectful of the other woman. She’d listen when Selene spoke, follow her instructions etcetera. “To settle the matter and prevent us from ‘bickering’ now and in the future, I can agree to settle on the matter. We’re both fab women and we’re gonna kick the bad guys’ butt together!’’ Nova was pretty sure there were other strong ladies in this department but she was bonding quite well with Selene so… Selene would be on the receiving end of all the hype.

If Nova had been paying attention before, it was nothing compared to what she was doing now. It didn’t matter that Selene could not exactly recall when the case had come up. It was likely the department saw too many cases for all the employees to remember each detail. This one in particular piqued Nova’s interest a great deal. “Wow! Fascinating! I hope no one was seriously injured though… But Cursebreaking is quite something special! I’ve always admired the level of knowledge one has to have in this field.” Much respect was deserved to Cursebreaking! Nova drank that advice in like she would chug one of those healthy, green smoothies she liked a lot. “Keep it all clear and concise. I got you. Have you ever been involved in lengthy interrogations? I reckon sometimes they’d have to get that way because the suspect would not cooperate.”

Colour the younger woman impressed! She loved it! “You’re one of the most brilliant persons I’ve ever met!” she blurted before she could stop herself. This left her grinning sheepishly because Nova was certain she came off as a silly little fangirl. “I’ll definitely seek your expertise whenever I need it.” Like… Selene would be first on her list. “When you’ve got a papa that’s devoted to his Auror job, you tend to learn a lot about what to expect from Aurors. Over the years, I’ve listened to him talk about his work and coworkers - the stuff that’s not confidential, that is - so I know how stressed the Aurors can get, or how annoyed they might be about having a trainee shadowing them. I’d like to think that I’m as prepared as can be to deal with it all.” She knew a lot about Auror life, actually.

Nope, not so fast! The man was going to enjoy his moment. Did that sound a little….ego-y? Just…..he’d had so little to celebrate recently and this was something he’d worked towards for so long. So, the raised eyebrow was returned in kind, the same smile in place.

Ronan was increasingly curious about the situation across the room, however. Was there some poaching of his trainee going on? He’d already picked up on the curious like a cat nature of the younger Paton. Hopefully, this was just a case of that, but something was telling him there was something more. Not that he minded any of the trainees getting close to others in the department, quite the opposite, actually. He just didn’t want them to decide all of a sudden that a different job might be better suited to them. Not that he wanted anyone to stay in a job that made them miserable either.

He was a complicated man with complicated feelings, okay?

Anyway, what was going on over there, and had anyone figured out what was with the spring in his step? All ears over here.

"Now that, I can cheers to." Selene would mention with it being directed to the last opening comment made about two fab women who were gonna take some names and kick some butt. With the mention being said, she'd give a toast to it, putting up her thermos for Nova to raise an imaginary glass to as well. The lass would never turn down an opportunity to be hyped up, and she'd always reflect the generosity received back towards whoever was doing it in kindness.

It was duly noted that Nova seemed to be quite attentive during this conversation. Twas a good skill to have, especially given the nature of their work. Being able to be present in the moment with a keen eye or ear for detail was somewhat of an essential skill to have across all the workers of the MLE. "No one was, luckily enough; but you got the other part right. Cursebreaking certainly is quite something...Special? Well, at least in my heart, that part is also true. But it can be quite the piece of work when getting into the nitty gritty of it all." Selene would beam a smile at the words of the other, it was extremely nice to have someone as cheery as Nova in the department. The admiration being shown was also quite nice, but followed second to the first. At least, that's what Latimer would have said if asked specifically. Nodding at the first half of her next two statements, the Senior Investigator would then respond to the latter "I personally haven't, not any lengthy ones for here at least. In one of my earlier jobs about 10 years back now, there was this one that went on for a bit, but it wasn't considered an 'interrogation'; moreso just general questioning." This being a reference to her days as a PI, but that would go unsaid for now. "However, your intuition would be correct again. While I haven't actually been a part of one, I've heard some stories of interrogations gone awry. Undoubtedly if you're ever in a situation like that, you'll be able to handle it with extreme ease, that much I'm sure of."

More flattery, it was splendid. A smirk and the phrase "If you say so, then I certainly can't disagree given the brilliance and wisdom shown by you so far as well." It was always good hearing these compliments coming from someone she's just met. Respectfully, she'd also give similar compliments right back in Nova's direction. For that's how she personally saw conversation to be, the give and the take; both parts being mutually equal in all manners of the word. Selene would listen closely then to the YATI go on about hearing some of the things which would take place while she was growing up. "That certainly is a nice little bonus for you then. Getting to be at least ever so slightly ahead of the other trainees in that regard. Given how our chat has being go so far, it also seems to me that you'll certainly be staying ahead of the other's too. I'm pretty positive that you'll be a full Auror in no time flat."

Default Selene & Ronan! <3
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

Nova chanced a glance over her shoulder, figuring that by now, more of the department had arrived. What - or rather WHO - caught her eyes once again was Ronan. Why did he have such an interest in her and Selene? Was he jealous that he wasn’t being paid much attention to? Not to worry, Ronan! Nova would be honing in on all the knowledge you had to offer soon enough!

“Cheers!” Nova grinned at Selene but then a second later, that turned into a giggle. “Here, pretend I have a steaming mug of coffee.” The young woman was too tanked up on her own excitement and cheeriness to bother with needing caffeine at the moment. However, she was wise to the fact that with the intense training she needed to put in, it wouldn’t be long before said caffeine would be a necessity.

Indeed, being an attentive listener was a great trait for DMLErs. Papa Bear had long instilled this in her, even before she knew she wanted to be an Auror. Nova was sure the trait had also served Selene well during her continued tenure at the Ministry. But back to their topic… the trainee was pleased to hear confirmation that no one was injured. That sort of thing was unavoidable on many occasions so it could be considered a huge win when no one came out scathed. As for Cursebreaking, Nova expected the subject could be complicated both in its practical and theoretical aspects. The fact that Slene hadn’t experienced lengthy interrogations did not put Nova off in the least. “Lengthy general questioning, I imagine, can frustrate both parties. It can even make the weak minded suspect crumble into providing helpful information, as long as one asks the right questions, of course.” The young woman made a mental note to question the Aurors about their experiences in interrogation. For some reason the subject intrigued her.

Oh yes! Nova most certainly said so! And she meant it! “Why, thank you! It means a lot.” You know… coming from someone as brilliant as Selene. My, my! There were so many great words! “You’re going to make me blush tomato red,’’ Nova remarked, clutching at her cheeks which were rosy in colour. “Thank you again. I’ll be doing my best, you mark my words. After all, I do have a reputation to live up to because of Papa Bear. You can also be sure that I’ll be swinging by your desk fairly regularly to pick your brain on work related topics.” Just a little heads up there, Selene!

Selene's perceptive, emerald eyes would also cast their gaze in the direction that Nova's own eyes went when she peered over her shoulder. Cluing the prior, and the latter presumptively, in on the fact that Ronin, one of the Aurors was watching the two converse; if not for but a moment. He had no reason to worry though, for the Senior was certainly not poaching the trainee...just...getting her up to speed, as it were.

But, back to it regardless of who was looking.

The imaginative cheers would be offered a grin and a chuckle in return. It made life, especially at a workplace, all the more better when others joined in on the funny little moments such as that. Her metal thermos would do a non-existant clink on Nova's non-existant mug of coffee. "Here's to this new year hopefully going by relatively uneventfully. Not sure about you because you weren't here at the time for it, but I've had my fill of big events like the last war for the rest of my life in all honesty." The third Wizarding War, while at this point having happened years prior to this day...was still something that Selene assuredly didn't miss. She would much rather stick to the smaller criminal cases that have happened in more recent years. So there was that, to hoping it would be so.

Nova was right in her thoughts about Cursebreaking; it was complex in all of it's matters. The reason why Selene had a general knack for it however was aligned with the basis that the subject stemmed from the more general subject of Charms. To be simply put, she definitively knew the many ins and outs of the larger branch. It was her passion which she studied rigorously at Hogwarts and even beyond that when going to University. So, naturally, anything related to it she excelled at just as well; the exception being the casting of Dark Charms. Theory wise, that was all logged, but in practice, even if not all of them were 'bad' to cast, she still preferred other methods of having to do so. Nonetheless: "You're hitting the nail on the head with that statement; which is why I'm relatively grateful for not having to say I had participated in a lengthy one here in the past. Some people when questioning can obviously become...aggressive, which tends to particularly strike a nerve with me when that does happen. But, alas, that's another hope I will be relying on for the future that I'll never have to see." Unfortunately, she wasn't at the privy of being able to say that it was guaranteed to not happen. And if it did then that was just life.

Going back into the conversation "But of course! More than happy to give compliments to anyone who compliments me." Flattery was assuredly the best option with Selene. So when it happened, as much as she reveled in it, she would make sure any praise would be mirrored to whoever gave it. The lass let out a small laugh at the trainee starting to blush; it was a quaint thing to happen. Smiling, once the lady was finished recanting her own bit, the Latimer woman would reply "Well, you're more than welcome to stop by desk any time! The offer extends to any Auror friends you make along the way. Always will be willing and ecstatic to assist wherever and whenever needed. Whether you just need general info, or a bit of practice on your spellwork, just let me know." Hopefully, that wasn't overstepping things. For Selene did still know that the actual Auror's would be paving the way with things in regards to this when it came to training, she still wanted to make it known that she'd lend a hand in a worst-case scenario type of deal.

A thermos and mug clink would have been a swimming reaction, anyway, because of the way these two were hitting it off. Sadly, Nova didn’t even think of this. She did, however, chuckle lightly. “Is it bad if I wish for it to be eventful? Maybe not TOO eventful for your sake but enough to keep me motivated and even more occupied.” Nova paused thoughtfully, taking a moment to reflect on Selene’s comment. “I do know many tales about the cases this department has handled. I’ve seen the toll they have taken on my father at times.” But Papa Bear was a strong one and never complained. He just did his job to the best of his abilities. No one could deny that he was the proper role model for anyone, not just her. “Wars are the worst,’’ she continued, not knowing that she was talking out loud the exact topic Selene had in mind. “We don’t need any more of those.”

No matter how challenging it was, Nova was determined that she would absorb as much as she possibly could regarding Curse Breaking from Selene. It was quite clear the other woman was eager to pass her knowledge along. “Someday soon, I’m going to come along with my notebook and and I’m going to take as much theory about Curse Breaking as I possibly can from you. I just might do the same for your interrogation experience too! Even the smallest of experiences you’ve had will be insightful. Who says I only need to shadow the Aurors?”

Nova giggled happily. “Compliments are going to be our thing!” She certainly liked Selene a great deal so far! “Oh, you bet I will be letting my fellow trainees know all about you and your wealth of knowledge! I really hope you don’t regret this open invitation.” The young woman chuckled, making a mental note not to overrun Selene in her quest for knowledge. "I think I should let you get to work now though. I don't think our boss would appreciate it if he caught us chatting too much."

"Oh that's not a bad thing to wish for at all, to be honest. Not sure about yourself, but I tend to get bored relatively easily. Hence why I try to keep myself busy most of the time to alleviate that from happening." For while Selene also knew the toll of having so many cases, in such a little amount of time no less, when there wasn't anything really was when she would find herself starting to lag slightly. And sluggish feelings like that was at the top of her list on things most despised; feelings specifically. "In any case, I'm still sure you're as ready as you can be to handle it all. Worse comes to worse, there's no doubt you'll still be able to breeze through it all; and if that does happen, just gotta take it one day at a time really." While work here was important, another thing the Welsh lady knew too well on was feeling burned out from it all. She'd hate to see one of the new department members also get to know that feeling too well, so she'd offer assistance whenever, really. If it was just a small pep talk to get the gears going again, or full-on lightening whatever work load Selene possibly could, Nova would be able to count on, not only her, but the other members of the department as well. The comment about the wars being the worst would get a nod in a non-verbal agreeance to it, for they were dreadful. The Latimer knew that it was also highly unlikely one would happen so soon, but, she wasn't a seer, so she still wasn't able to say definitively.

"Well, when you do, I'd be more than happy to share what experiences I can on both of those subjects." A light-hearted smile would cross her face as she'd casually respond to the ecstatic coworker. In Selene's eyes, Nova certainly was showing a great demeanor to all of this. Not everyone was so ready and excited to be learning about things, so it really was a nice change of pace getting to see someone who was. A small laugh followed by an even smaller sigh would be given to her last part of the statement about not necessarily needing to shadow aurors. The sigh wasn't exasperated, but just one of those 'breath of fresh air' types.

Also, Selene would never turn down a compliment battle in the slightest, so her words would mention "I can already tell they will be too! Never a bad time to be giving or receiving a compliment for or from someone as kind hearted as yourself." Another laugh would be given as the other lass went on to explain her hopes on the invite, through which, the auburn-haired woman would simply shake her head at; teaching the new kids on the block would be a fun little experience if and when it would happen. But, only time would be able to tell about that much, yet there was still high hopes for it. "Well, if you need anything, you know where to find me! I hope you have a splendid first day here in the department!"

I hope you have a splendid first day here in the department!"

It seemed as though the two had more in common than Nova had expected. The realisation quite delighted her. “Oh, My. Gosh! Am I looking at my future self? Because you and I are continuing to click with our similarities! But as much as we love working, this is just my reminder to you to slow down at times and rest.” You see, Nova was well versed in these encouragements; after all, she had a busy mama and papa. Right now, please excuse the young woman while she got all soft from the heartfelt encouragement. “I promise I shall keep this and all of your wise words in mind. I have a feeling they’ll be quite useful on those especially trying days.” Did Selene have a mentor? Because that intern would be quite lucky to have someone so intelligent mentoring them!

“Right! Then you shall certainly be seeing more of me!” Whenever they both had mutual time on their hands, that is. Nova grinned broadly at Selene’s laughter and sigh. It was okay; somehow the YATI member had suspected the sigh was not an exasperated one.

“You certainly know how to flatter a girl!” Ugh! Wasn’t Nova fortunate to meet someone as wonderful as Selene? She knew that not everyone that she’d be working with would not be this jolly. Therefore, Selene was quite the breath of fresh air everyone needed. “I sure do! I shall catch you later! Thank you for everything!’’ Turning, Nova took off in Ronan’s direction, polishing off her coffee as she went. Yes, it was best to leave Selene now lest both women get a telling off from Papa Bear about chatting on the Ministry’s time.
