Ren'Ai's 'Slice of Paradise'

Ren'Ai Sakura Kirai has had a tough life. She was orphaned at ten, and labeled as the 'Japanese Transfer' and 'Paranoia Queen' at Hogwarts.

Now twenty-one, Ren'Ai has recently been placed in the Magical Creatures department of the Ministry of Magic. Her paranoia and distrust was starting to disappear.

But her past is coming back to haunt her. An old friend has started coming to her new home. He has been trying to convince her to come back to Japan. But Ren'Ai, believe it or not, has an actual family now. Albeit 'adopted', she still has a family. She wouldn't be able to leave when she has friends and family that love her to bits, or when she has a job that she enjoys greatly.

But will Koudo accept that? Ren'Ai thinks...not.

Her 'slice of paradise' as she and her 'adopted' family call it, is a beautiful three-story white house with a master bedroom on the top floor and three guest bedrooms-one on the top floor and the other two on the second floor- all with their own separate baths and balconies extending from the bedrooms. She also has a large dining room and adjoining kitchen, a large study and a small library on the ground floor.

Out back, Ren'Ai has a large vegetable and flower garden, and a small pond that she is usually found lounging by.

Ren'Ai is nearly always willing to let you in if you need a place to stay for the night. Just don't touch the pictures or go into her study, and we'll all get along.

Ren'Ai sighed and slid into a chair outside by the pond, a cup of green tea in her hands. She pulled the letter out of her shirt pocket and read it over...again.



Ren'Ai sighed, crumpled up the parchment, and tossed it into the pond. "Great. The last thing I need is him showing up here" she muttered, taking a sip of tea.

Callum walked slowly up the long path toward the large building his fiancée lived in. He knocked on the door and awaited an answer.

Ren was just about to get herself another cup of tea when she heard knocking on the door. She walked through the open sliding glass door and got to the front door. She smiled brightly hen she saw Callum. "Cal! Hi" she said happily, hugging him quickly. "Come in. Make yourself at home" she said, going back into the kitchen to refill her mug. She walked back in, setting the mug on the table. "Tea? All I have is green" she asked him, ready to get up.

Callum smiled and hugged Ren back. "Hey" he said happily. When she asked him to go in, he walked past her and went into the living room and sat down. "No I'm ok thanks. Don't drink tea. Coffee or nothing for me" he replied.

Ren nodded. She slid into the kitchen and got Callum a cup of coffee. "Here you go" she said, setting it in front of him. But she knew that he could tell something was wrong.

Callum smiled. "Thanks" Then he took note of Ren's mood. "Tell me what's bugging you" he told her.

Ren sighed and sat next to Callum, leaning against him. "A friend is coming to visit and really don't want him to." Ren said softly. She looked up when she heard a knock at the door. That was probably him. Ren stood up and opened the door to greet the handsome young man at the door. "Koudo" she said.

Koudo smiled at the individual that he knew as Ren'Ai. He enveloped her in a hug, but immediately releaed her when he saw the man sitting on her couch.

Ren bit her lip. This was awkward.

Callum sighed and put his arms around Ren. "Is there no way of stopping him?" he asked curiously. But then there was a knock at the door. Apparently not. He looked at the man who had just walked in and tried to avoid eye contact. He could see this was going to be awkward. Maybe a little more awkward than he wanted.

Ren stepped back. She turned to Callum. "Cal, this is Koudo. He's the son of the man who took me in after my parents were murdered"she said, and she looked over to the man with the baby face. "Koudo, this is Callum" she said, and immediately placed a mug of green tea and placed it inKoudo's hands. "Before you asked" she said. She gnawed on her lip and sat back next to Koudo. Her opalescent eyes flickered from Koudo to Callum and back again.

Koudo gave Ren'Ai a dazzling smile. "Didn't I tell you to lose the colour contacts Ren'AI--OW!" he flinched as he was hit with a couch cushion in the face. "Joking, joking" he chuckled. He looked at 'Callum.' "So, what's your relation to Ren'Ai?" he asked.

Ren groaned. No, no, please, Kami, no!

Cal looked at Ren and smiled. "Pleasure to meet you, Koudo" he told the man, holding his hand out for him to shake. He sat forward and took a sip of his coffee and out it back down again. Then he looked up at Koudo again and then at Ren and back again. "She's my fiancée" he admitted.

Koudo shook Callum's hand. "Pleasure's mine, Callum" he smiled. Koudo took a deep sip of tea. His eyes opened wide and he looked from Ren'Ai, to Callum, to Ren'Ai, and back. "Y-you're fiancee...? Y-you two are...engaged?" he asked. He looked down. "Wow. Uhm...ah..." he looked back up. "Kyoko and Temari will be so happy" he saidsoftly.

Ren took Callum's hand gently. "Sorry, Koudo..." she whispered softly. She got up. "I'll be back" she said, and dashed upstairs. She wrenched the door to the third floor stairs open and dashed into her room. She collapsed on her bed and stared up for a while before she sat back up.

Callum took note of the look on Koudo's face. "You seem shocked" he noted.

Koudo nodded. "I am. I never thought of Ren as someone to get married. How long have you known her?" he asked. Callum couldn't have known Ren for thatlong. Unless they had gone to school together.

After a few minutes of deep thinking, Ren got back up and went back down to the living room. "Sorry about that" she said, running a hand through her hair. "Koudo, I know how you feel about me. I never felt the same way, okay, so please...just get over it" she pleaded, looking deep into Koudo's eyes. "Please" she repeated.

Koudo sighed. Ren'Ai really thought he could just get over it? Seriously?

Callum smiled slightly. "I've known her since I was eleven, kind of. We went to school together" he replied. But they never really spoke until that day in the library.

Koudo nodded in understanding. "Oh. I see. So you were friends?" he asked.

Ren sighed. "Koudo, PLEASE! Jst drop it!" Ren snapped, highly annoyed. She knew exactly what Koudo was plying at. "Yes, we're engaged. And I'm happy. You've always told me that if I was happy,you were too" she reminded him,fuming.

Callum narrowed his eyes at Koudo. "I'm sorry, I don't recall you explaining what the hell this has to do with you" he told the man.

Koudo crossed his arms and sat back. "Unlike you, I've known Ren since we were infants. You haven't. So, if I were you, I'd suggest--"

"SHUT UP! Koudo, please! Just shut up and stop talking about me as if I'm not here!" Ren said. She rubbed her temples and sighed. "Koudo, just go. Get out. You remember my godsister, Adrianna? Go visit and bug her. I don't feel like dealing with you at the moment" she snarled visciously.

Koudo put his hands up in defense. "Kami, Ren! What has gotten into you?!" he asked, black eyes wide. He knew better than to mess with Ren'Ai when she was angry. He got up, defeated, and left, slamming the door behind him.

Ren sighed. "Thnk Kami that nightmare's over!" she said. She gave Callum an apologetic look. [i]"I am so sorry that happened! I didn't expect him to come this early"[/b] she sid, leanng int him a little. "Now you see why I ignore Ad when she tells me to visit Japan" she said softly.

Callum narrowed his eyes and listened. "Carry on! You don't know the first thing about me. I don't care if you've known Ren longer, and neither does she. At the end of the day I love her and I am not gonna let the chance to be happy with her slip away again. End of" he told the man and shook his head rolling his eyes. Then he looked at Ren. "What is his problem?" he asked, anger in his green eyes.

Ren sighed. "I don't know. He's obssessed with me, and always has been" she said, shaking her head. She snuggled up next to him, resting her head on his shoulder. "But at least he's gone" she said softly.

Callum narrowed his green eyes slightly as Ren spoke. "Good job he is gone" he replied. Else Cal would have done something not even Ren would be able to have stopped him from doing.

Ren sighed and leaned into Callum. "I really am sorry about him" she said. She was about to turn into fourth year Ren when they had crashed into each other in thelibrary. She had apologized so much that day, he had barely gotten a word in. Ren getly moved his face to face her and kissed him sweetly. "I love you" she whispered.

Cal smiled slightly at Ren. "It's kinda like fourth year all over again, except now you have a valid reason for apologizing. That day was my fault too" he replied. They both banged into each other because neither of them were looking where they were going. Some would say it was fate bringing them together. He smiled and kissed Ren back. "I love you too" he whispered back, a blonde lock of hair falling over his forehead.

Ren giggled. "Yeah. But I apologize over every little thing, and you know that" she reminded him. She smiled a little, moving the lock of hair from in front of hid face. "I love hearing those words after five years chasing after you" she said, laying her head on his shoulder.

Callum smiled. "That's a very good point" he replied. He really did love Ren's giggle. "Five years? Whoa! I really did take a long time to take the hint" he joked.
