Marce wandered down the hall and, in her hurry, failed to notice someone watching her, leaning up against one of the damp walls. "That looked very cosy. I wonder if Severus would be interested in hearing that his whore is cheating on him. And with more than one man...." he sniggered, moving toward her and slipping his arms around her. "You really are getting worse in your old age Marce." |
Kristi decided to skip out on her first class and wander the halls. She was surprised when she came around a corner and saw Marcella talking with Darrin. "That girl sure does get around," she thought to herself. Kristi put on a smile and walked over to them. "Hey Darrin, where have you been? I haven't seen you since the train, Kristi asked before addressing Marcella a little less enthusiastically. "Hey Marcella." |
Marce shoved him from her and watched, knowing she would pay for that, as a resentful Darrin stalked off without addressing Kristi. "Hey," she said shortly. "I was thinking, we really should get on with the appeal and with organising your visit to Azkaban." |
Kristi spared a curious glance for Darrin as he stalked away before turning back to Marcella. "Yeah, I guess the first thing to do would be to track down Dumbledore or Lupin. Do you really think they'll let me go?" she asked Marcella, anxiously. |
Not caring to lower her voice, she hissed, whilst walking, "Your his daughter, of course they will! I wasn't blood related and they let me." |
"Yeah well, Dumbledore has a particular soft spot for you, doesn't he? And keep your voice down; I don't want the whole school to know about me and Snape," Kristi retorted. "Anyway, I still don't think this appeal thing is going to work. I mean, really, what can Lupin do that Dumbledore can't?" |
"Sorry," she apologised. Well, he can do alot, he's half minister and a member of the wizengamot. I spoke to him and he said it was by a slim majority that Snape got put behind bars. In other words, he could swing it either way for him, if he managed to convince one or two members." |
"Really?" Kristi asked, surprised. "I didn't know that. So we only need to swing one or two votes... It doesn't seem like a lot but, it still might be difficult." Kristi sighed as they neared Lupin's office. "But, at least it's something. A little bit of hope," she said. |
"Lupin is fully aware of how important Severus is. It may be a risk, but we might need to expose who he is, in order to swing the vote and convince them he needs to be released." |
"What do you mean by expose who he is?" Kristi asked, confused. |
A thought suddenly struck Marce and she froze as if ice were slowly creeping it's way all around her. "Never mind," she said, dismissing the thought, knowing fully well Kristi wasn't about to be distracted. "It's not important, what's important is that they know why he's vital to the order." |
Kristi looked at Marcella, still thoroughly confused. "But... I thought the council was already aware of Snape's position in the order and his vital importance to the mission. What are you thinking?" she asked, seeing a look pass over Marcella's face. |
Deciding honesty were the best ploicy, she halted in her tracks and looked at Kristi seriously, "Something about your dad. If you knew, it'd only put you in danger. I'm sorry." she said, hoping that would be enough. Walking on, she arrived outside Lupin's door and knocked on it hard. |
Kristi stared at the bak of Marcella's head as she knocked upon the door. She may not be very close to her father and he may have refused to tell her about her mother but, other than that, he didn't keep secrets from her. What was it that he could tell Marcella that he couldn't tell his own daughter? Kristi turned her fury down to a simmer before venturing to speak again. "I understand," she said shortly. |
After conferring with Lupin for a few minutes, she emerged from the room and said, "He's agreed that he will have to share Severus' importance," she sighed, "But saying that, it could go either way. It isn't exactly something positive to announce to a bunch of judges." |
Kristi frowned; she had been hoping for more encouraging news. "Either way... So does that mean we could end up pushing people away from our side with this?" she asked, worried. "But... If it's the only thing we've got..." |
"We dont take the risk, we'll never know," she sighed, "I dread to think of what Cornelius' reaction will be. I cant believe they allowed him to stay in the Wizengamot after resigning as Minister. It's ludicrous, but no doubt he'll pull a huge fuss." Quite suddenly, she asked, "You do know your dad was a death-eater, dont you?" |
"Yeah, of course I knew," Kristi replied in surprise. "Why?" she asked, narrowing her eyes. |
"This can go either way. But it's the only option we have," she said, worriedly, sounding more as if she were talking to herself. "In the time being, Archie will have to do, he'll probably be able to do it anyways. At least, I hope..." With that, she walked off distractedly down the coridoor, after hearing the bell sound for the end of class. Arriving outside Severus' quarters, she slipped inside and closed the door quietly, pacing the room nervously whilst waiting for Archie. |
Kristi tried to figure out what it was that Marcella meant by, Archie will have to do, he'll probably be able to do it anyways. Do what? She had thought Lupin was the one handling this appeal thing. After standing around in the hallway with her thoughts for a while, Kristi followed Marcella's path. As she rounded a corner, she bumped into someone. Looking up, she saw that it was Darrin. |
"You girls really need to stop falling it my arms," he said, taking he by the forearms and steadying her. "Why weren't you watching where you were going, how come you're so distracted?" |
"Sorry, I need to talk to Marcella about Snape's appeal," Kristi replied, moving to walk around him. |
"Oh, that." he said, with a distinct tone of revulsion in shis voice. Holding open one of the oak front doors and wlking slowly outside, he sighed, "You know, I really dont get why you're all so bothered with getting that pervert out of prison. it's where he deserves to be. After what he did..." he added, seething through his teeth. |
Kristi clenched her fists and followed Darrin out the door. "He's not a pervert," she said, trying desperately not to strike out at him. "And you provoked him into cursing you. He thought you wanted to hurt Marcella. I probably would have done the same thing in his place." |
"Why on earth are you so defensive of him anyways." Scoffing and swinging himself up onto a lower branch of a tree, he grinned, "Dont tell me you had a fling with him too. Mind you, wouldn't surprise me. His kind usually do that sort of thing, dont they?!" |
