"Who is it?" called the boy who was laid down on his bed, looking rather smug with his arms laid under his head, his legs outstretched.[/COLOR] |
"Kristi," she called, sneering at him through the door. She was furious at him for whatever it was he had doen to Marcella, but she couldn't make her father's mistake. So, she took a deep breath and swallowed her fury. |
He got up from his bed and deicded to surprise her by throwing the door open. Moving away from it so she could come if she wished, he asked, "What abuse have you got to hurl at me this time?" |
Kristi jumped back as the door swung open. It took her a moment to collect herself and walk into the room. She looked Darrin up and down, glaring at him in suspicion before she responded to his question. She held up her hands and gave ihm her most innocent look, "I'm not here to hurl abuse. I'm just worried about Marcella and thought you might be able to shed some light on the matter." |
"How could I?" he asked, a small smirk emerging onto his twisted face. "She's just as inresponsive with me as she is with Archie." |
Kristi sneered at him. "What do you guys expect? Snape's not been gone but a day and you think she's just gonna fall back into your arms? He's not going to be in Azkaban forever, you know," she yelled, her anger and frustration taking hold of her. She stopped her ranting to try and get control of herself. |
Archie narrowed his eyes tightened his fists .Darrin was destroying everyones relationships .He picked up a jar of coffe next to him and through it as hard as he could at the brick wall and it smashed violently.Archie walked swiftly from the room and walked up to his room. |
"Can you blame us for wanting to look after her?" he asked, knowing his words were highly ironic and sneering down at her, relishing in pleasure as he saw her becoming frustrated. "You know, you look cute when you get all feisty." he mumbled creepily, edging toward her. |
Kristi felt her face flush and cursed herself, taking a step back from Darrin as he inched his way toward her. "No, I can't blame you for wanting to look after her. But I don't think that's your entire agenda," she said. |
Knowing she were onto him, he smiled, almost too widely and replied, "I have no hidden agenda. All I care for is her and making sure she makes the right choices." |
Kristi stood staring at him for a moment. "The right choices, huh?" she thought. "And what would those right choices be?" she asked, moving closer to Darrin and looking up at him with innocent eyes. |
Archie walked over to the window and opened it he stuck his head out with hius hand and wand and cojured up a rope leading in the clouds.Archie got outside on the window sill and clicmbed up the rope and on to the roof where he laid on his back spread-eagled and sighed whilst staring up at the sky. |
Catching onto her new motive, he sat back down and lifted his knees to her chest, "What do you think? To make the right choice so that she becomes a little happier and forgets that no-hoper who's gone and landed himself in jail. She doesn't need scum like that..." he hissed, perhaps showing a little of his true colours and sincere feelings toward Snape. |
Feeling flustered from being locked in the room, Marcella edged her way out of the house, glad that Kristi didn't corner her again. Slipping outside, she sat underneath one of the apple trees and leant her head against the trunk, her eyes flickering upward. |
Archie heared some one come out the house a.Got up and walked over to the side of the roof and peered over and saw marecella ,she looked like she needed some time to herself the way she sat alone . |
Tears trickling down her cheeks once more, she cried long and hard. she really did want to talk to someone, to tell them what he had done to her, how he had abused her and still was, but for some reason, which she expected had to do with magic, she could not. Her hands wiping her cheeks, she longed just to be hugged and told that none of this was her fault. But the man who usually helped her through these things was no longer here. |
"He's not scum!" Kristi yelled, her wand in her hand before knew what had happened. Carefully tucking her wand back in her pocket, she continued a little more calmly. "Look, I don't like their relationship any more than you do. But... they are happy together. Can't you see that?" |
"Any man who sleeps with a girl less than half his age is scum in my books, Kristi and I dont give a hoot how happy they were, he's not here now. Because he tried to hurt me, unprovoked. And you still defend him? You're impossible." he said, shaking his head at her in rage. "Just get out!" |
Kristi stood rooted to the spot. She wanted to say something, anything, to defend the actions of her father. But, truth be told, she had thought the very same thing. Finally, too frustrated to say anything else she slammed the door as hard as she could behind her so that it swung open again as she stormed out of the room. |
Darrin breathed a sigh of relief, glad she didn't appear to know what his intentions had been and still were for Marcella. Swinging from his room, he looked down out of the window and spied Marce sitting under a tree. Racing down the stairs, he pulled on a jacket and sat outside with her. As he came up beside her, he took a finger to her chin and guided her head up slowly, placing a kiss on her lips. "You haven't said anything to Kristi, have you?" he asked, knowing she fully well couldn't. |
*ANdriel was confused and didn't know what to do. She had been away for a long time, so everything had changed a bit. She found an empty room and sat down on the dusty bed. Suddenly she could hear voices in her head, it was Marcella and Darrin. She didn't want to listen to theirs conversation, but she couldn't get the voices out of her head. She burried her face in her hands and a silver tear ran down her cheek. She wasn't crying because she was sad, but when a close friend of her was unhappy, then she began to cry without wanting it.* |
*She wiped the silver tear away and stood up. She walked over to her trunk and opened it. She found a black leather book with a emerald red writing on that read "VAMPIRES". She walked to the window and looked out, there she saw MArce and Darrin sitting under the tree. She sat down on the bed and began to read* |
She shook her head in response and then pulled her chin from his hand in small defiance. "You know you've stopped me from being able to tell, even if I wasn't too ashamed to say anything anyway." she scowled. "It's for your own good. You'll learn one day, that your problems, what you want, is insignificant. We work for what He wants, not our own petty selfish needs." Marce snorted in response, she found it hard to believe that he didn't find using her for his own pleasure selfish. But she regretted it a second later, as he struck her across the face with the back of his hand and swore at her, a look of disapproval deeply seeded in his face. Rising immediately, she fled from him and ran back to her room, where she responded by slamming and locking the door tight. |
Kristi ran down the stairs. She wanted to leave this house and run far away from this complicated mess. But, there was no where for her to go and her father and Marcella needed her. She settled for sulking in the living room, frustrated that she couldn't find out what Darrin was up to and feeling guilty that she hadn't been able to defend Snape to him. |
Archie shimmied down the rope and into his room . He flicked his wand at the rope and it disappeared in a whisp of smoke and walked back down into the kitchen ,fists trembling. |
Archie was feeling terrible .He lowered his head and buried it in his hands and sat silently. He couln't have felt worse. |
Archie buried his head in his hands .He sat silently ,he couldn't have felt worse. |
Some hours later, having been sat at the windowsill, she watched as Darrin re-entered the house and waited for his door to slam. Then she crept down to the kitchen, her stomach retching with hunger. Entering the room a little too quickly, she jumped aback as she caught sight of Archie, sat alone, once more. |
Feeling hungry, Kristi wandered out into the kitchen and grabbed something to eat. She noticed Archie and Marcella, but ignored them. She was tired of trying to deal with people and their problems. Kristi just wanted to get back to Hogwarts so she could try and figure out a way to bust her father out of Azkaban. The libraries here just weren't extensive enough. |
"Dementors feed off people's emotions, they're feelings." she said, more randomly than to anyone in particular. "The way you are now, you wouldn't last a minute there, let alone bust him out." she sighed, making it clear that thought had well and truly run through her mind more times than she breathed. |
*ANdriel was tired of reading the book so she walked down and found the kitchen. She entered and saw Kristi. She ran over to her and hugged her since she hasn't seen her in years* KRISTI! |
Noticing how Kristi failed to take heed to her words, she cast her eyes aside as Andriel rushed in, clearly not taking note of the dampened atmosphere in the room. Remembering that she didn't know, she gave a weak half smiled and whispered, more to herself, "She doesn't know." |
Kristi sneered at the back of Marcella's head. And then jumped in surprise at Andriel's hug. She pat the girl on the back before stepping away, "I didn't think you liked me." |
Marce narrowed her eyes toward Kristi and sank down onto the bench next to Archie, squeezing his hand to prevent her fists from doing anything she'd regret. She bit her lips to prevent her mouth from saying anything she'd regret either. |
*Andriel's smile faded and she turned to Marcella* What do I don't know, MArcella? |
"Look around, I presume you've noticed people around the house. The person missing.." she sighed, "The depressive atmosphere..." she finsihed, flicking dirt from her nail, her clench on Archie's hand becoming stronger. |
*Andriel looked down* Snape's missing... |
From down the hallway, he could hear a few female voices coming from the kitchen, one of which sounding fiery. He knew instantly who it was and caught up with the conversation. A hand lazily holding the door, he walked in and mumbled, "Yes, because he tried to kill me." Marce scoffed and started to say, "Only because..." but one warning look from him, a glint of evil flashed in his eyes and she was silence, amazingly. |
Kristi caught the look Darrin shot at Marcella. She narrowed her eyes and stared at him from across the room. Nothing. She couldn't pick up anything at all from him; which only aroused her suspicions further. What was he hiding? Or was he really just that upset about Snape and Marcella's relationship and was naturally closed off? |
*ANdriel didn't know that Darrin was an evil person, so she walked towards him and smiled. Then she shook his hand saying* Hello... |
Frustrated that he had silenced her, but unable to comment further, she settled for dodging his eyesight, preferring to pretend her were not there. "I dont believe I've had the pleasure of meeting you..." he said, taking her hand and kissing it. "I presume you're one of Marce's friends. She has so many and yet never introduces me. One would think I meant nothing to her." he commented, sickening smile creeping upon his perverted face. |
*ANdriel looked at Darrin and smiled, but taking away her hand* My name is Andriel by the way...Andriel Mortlock |
"The pleasure is all mine." he said, obligingly before moving around her, saying, "Excuse me, but all I wanted was a quiet word with Marcella." He stood next to her and slipped a note into her pocket, unknowing to the others and whispered to her, in a low sneer, "I trust you'll be staying the night again, dear." Then he turned and walked from the room, but not before giving her a final glance. |
*Andriel looked at MArce and Darrin and could smell that something was wrong, but she ignored it and looked at Kristi* Kristi, how is it goin? |
Kristi looked at Andriel, "Snape is in prison. How do you think it's going?" Kristi took a deep breath. "I'm sorry Andriel. I didn't mean to be so short. It's just that everything is so worng and I don't know what we're going to do to fix it." |
*ANdriel looked down and thought for a minute then she looked up at Kristi* I tell you one thing, soon everything gonna be ok. If there is something then you can always trust me. I will help you as much as I manage... |
ooc: Just a little note concerning Darrin and my feelings on the other characters' interactions with him: Kristi knows that Darrin is the reason why Snape was sent to Azkaban, even if she wasn't there because of the explaining that was done at the cottage before the end of P&P. So, that is why I've been playing it like Kristi is suspicious. Not because she actually suspects Darrin's true motives, but because she's still suspicious about that incident in the HW with Snape. Archie was also there, so of course he'd be a little suspicious as well. However, Andriel was unconcious during the entire time and I think Nick was out of the loop as well (is Jenn playing him once we get to Hogwarts? I know she doesn't have much time now with her new treatment...) So, they probably wouldn't be suspicious at all. |
The following day, she swore at her own stupidity as she awoke to find Darrin laying next to her. Standing up, she tied her robe around her body and fled from the room immediately, not daring to look back and see if he had witnessed her running away. Lighting a candle with her wand, she rummaged rather noisily in the library, desparate tears clinging to her broken face. |
Kristi was in the kitchen sipping her coffee and still trying to figure out a way to bust Snape out of Azkaban when she heard a noise coming from the other room. She walked in to see Marcella rumaging around in the library. "What are you looking for?" Kristi asked. |
Slamming around 10 books onto one of the old, worn , wooden library desks, she heaved a sigh and then stammered, "I cant take this much longer, there just has to be a way to get him out." She then plnked herself on a chair and started to shuffle through the index of a book called, "How to appeal against a ruling by the Wizengamot." Letting her hair down, she dug deep into her pocket and handed her the note Darrin had slipped her. "It's from Dumbledore, concerning the sentence he's been given. Something along the lines of a decade, if not more.." she coughed, due partly to the dust and to the anxiety. "No wonder why he was so pleased to give it to me." she hissed, flicking through the pages. |
Kristi stared down at the paper Marcella had handed to her. So that was it then. Sentenced. She slumped down into a chair next to Marcella and banged her head on the table in frustration. Then, pulled one of the books over and opened it up. "Do you think this will work?" she asked Marcella, sounding doubtful. |
"Something has to work. There just has to be grounds for an appeal. I mean, if people who're as guilty as sin can appeal, then why cant those who're innocent have a right to appeal too." she choked, feeling her eyes fill up. Tearing to the end ofthe book, she picked up another which contained details of previous appeals made by convicts. |
"Yeah, but isn't that the point of calling them Unforgivable curses? There is no appeal because there is no excuse for using one," Kristi said angrily. "I doubt there's even one case where someone got off." |
"But what if they were provoked.." mused Marce, concentraing so hard on the pages in front of her that she forgot to watch what she were saying. Hoping Kristi would dismiss the reamark, she looked up and said, "I'm sorry if I've been short of late. I'm really just not altogether here, I feel so lost without him." |
"I don't think they care about provocation. Besides, I don't think using the Cruciatus Curse on someone who is annoying you counts as provocation," Kristi said. Kristi slammed her fists onto the table, "What I don't get is why Dumbledore handed him over after helping you two escape. What is that about? I thought Dumbledore trusted Snape!" |
For the first time, being faced with this question she had previously had no answer to, she gaped then shook her head in disbelief. "I think...only....no. I mean, what if he found out about, Snape and mysef? hat would've been more of an incentive to have him locked away where neither I nor Voldemort could get to him." she pointed out, not quite believing her words. Sweeping the books aside, she mumbled shortly before exiting the room, "I'm gunna go see him. I want answers." she means dumbledore by 'him' lol i'll be back later |
Kristi got up and followed Marcella out of the room. "Mind if I come along?" |
Archie woke up got dressed into black robes walked out of his bedroom only to bump in to Marcella and Kristi "where are you two going in such a rush"Archie asked . |
"Dumbledore." was all Marce found she had time to say as she fell face to face with his door. Rapping upon it loudly, folding her arms impatiently, she tapped her foot on the floor as she awaited for his reply. |
Dumbledore sat behind his desk in the corner of his spacious bedroom. The four posted bed stood in the opposite corner, which allowed the room to be separated into two distinct areas: one for sleep and relaxing, and the other for work. He heard a knock on the door and knew who it must be before he called, "Enter," and the two girls walked in. |
"Where have you been these past few days? I haven't seen you here at all! What could've been so important?" she demanded, the feisty side to her taking hold of her entire body. |
Kristi stood just behind Marcella, backing her up. She didn't say anything, but settled on sneering at Dumbledore and nodding her head in agreement at Marcella's remarks. Dumbledore looked at the girls from over the top of his glasses and motioned them to sit in the chairs. "Why don't you two come in and have a seat?" he asked. |
"I'd prefer to stand." she said, refusing to back down and look as though she were agreeing with him in some way. He'd made a grave mistake and she so wanted him to see that, in her eyes, he were no longer a good man. |
Archie followed them in. |
Sh shifted uncomfortably as Archie stood behind her for support. she knew he wanted to be there for his sake and her own, but there was something about the thought of discussing Snape in front of him that made her feel awkward, guilty even. |
Dumbledore looked up at Marcella, dissapointed. But, he couldn't blame the girl for being so upset. "As you wish," he relplied. Then, in answer to her previous questions, he continued saying, "I'm afraid I've been rather busy with affairs that do not concern the three of you." |
"Then maybe you can spare your precious time to help us in affairs that concern us. What on earth posessed you to hand him over to them?" she asked, a look of desparation clearly shining through her broken face. |
Archie folded his arms and stared at Marcella with one raised eyebrow. |
Archie stood apprehensively behind her, increased the pressure upon her and she thought she were about to pass out from the sheer amount of stress she were under. Reaching, backward, she clasped his hand as her rage bubbled further. |
"I'm afraid that is between Severus and myself," Dumbledore replied, his eyes fixed on Marcella. But, then, out of the corner of his eye he saw Kristi move forward. Kristi couldn't stand it anymore; sstormed over to the desk and pounded her fists on it. "What do you mean it's between you and Snape? You have no idea, do you?" she screamed and then looked back at Marcella. "You scheming old man. Marcella is a wreck! You have no idea how much he meant to her!" |
"come on now Marcella ,Professor Dumbledore here must have had decnt reasons for doing what he did ,mustn't you?"Archie said squeazing Marcella's hand slightly for support. |
"How much he does mean to me." she corrected her friend and then pleaded with him, "And he was supposed to mean something to you too. All those times he risked his life, so he could help you in your fight against the Dark Lord. he brought me here, he's the reason I'm alive this day and you're not even grateful for that!" she cried, feeling herself becoming hysterical. Hearing Archie's comment, she tore her hand from in his and hissed, "You're no better! Neither of you can comprehend the suffering we went through, just to have our kidness, our loyalty thrown back in our faces!" |
Dumbledore looked up at the two girls. "As a matter of fact, I know very well how much Marcella and Severus mean to one another," he said seriously. Kristi's jaw dropped and she turned around to look at Marcella's reaction to this bit of news. He knew about Snape and Marcella? How? |
"And yet you still tore us apart?!" she scoffed, disbelief shadowing over her. Shaking her head, she fell into the chair he had offered, balancing her head in her hands and sobbing quietly. |
Archie frowned and looked out the window "Marcella we are trying to do what is best for you ,at least snape could be spending a decade in azkaban instead of a life time which is what most people in there get" Archie said his voice slowly rising. |
"And by the time he emerges, he'll no lnger be the man I knew." she sighed, sniffing. She knew Archie couldn't grasp her desparation, she knew they had been wronged terribly. Losing her temper, she scowled, "If he is to be locked up, then so should Darrin! He provoked him into it!" she accused, not caring that the boy in question could probably hear her. "Severus told me so." she said, using his real name to show the impact he had on her. |
Kristi wanted to ask how he had known, but figured it was a stupid question really. Dumbledore had his ways. "So, you just let them take him away? What are we supposed to do without him? Marcella needs him! Can't you do something? Anything? A lighter sentence?" Kristi spurt dozens of questions and Dumbledore just sat there looking at her with pity in his eyes. "I dont' need your pity, old man," she spat, shaking with rage and frustration. "Can't you at least arrange it so Marcella can visit him! You owe them at LEAST that much for what they've been through!" |
"There's not a question to be made of it Kristi. I will see him, as often as possible.." then she turned her eyes toward Dumbledore. "With or without your help, although with will be easier." |
Dumbledore looked between the two girls, yelling all at once. he held up a hand to silence them and was surprised when they actually complied. "Very well, Marcella, Kristi. I will see what I can do about getting Severus a lighter sentece. However, I must caution you not to get your hopes up. Severus was very lucky indeed to get off with such a light sentence already. But, I should be able to arrange a short visit, should Miss Riddle wish it." |
She couldn't pretend she were best pleased at the use of the word 'short' but she nodded her head curtly, at least paying attention to the fact that however little it was, he was making some effort. "And what of Darrin?" she spoke boldly, "He gets off scot free?" |
"Mr. Fletcher had done nothing to warrant an attack and therefore, does not need to be punished," he replied, giving Marcella a look that said there would be no further argument on that matter. |
"Maybe not to you, but he's violated me beyond reason..." she sighed, so quietly that her words were unhearable to any but Kristi. Reasoning that this was as much help as she would get from him, she rose shakily and turned to him, "I shall want to see him today." she said, her eyes telling him that she meant her words. Muttering about how wrong the justice system was, she threw sarcastic comments around herself as she left the room. |
Kristi followed Marcella out of the room after giving Dumbledore a scathing look. She pushed Archie out of the way and linked arms with Marcella. "He's violated you?" she hissed into her ear so that no one but Marcella could possibly hear. |
"Dont pretend you haven't noticed the way he talks to me, treats me. Like he's forgotten entirely that he's the reason I'm hurting. But dont bother your mind with scum like him, Snape needs us now." she said decisively, leading them to her bedroom. |
Kristi let Marcella lead her into the bedroom. "Right," Kristi said, taking a deep breath and sighing; for a moment she had thought Marcella was talking about an entirely different kind of violation. "So... what are we going to do? Dumbledore is obviously not going to be of much help. I don't think he strusts Snape anymore..." |
Rushing her travelling cloak on and slipping her feet into her trainers, she spoke quickly, "You're completely right. We need someone else in authority to help us. Lupin, he never was great friends with him, but he's a fair man and is in the guard that are to escort us to Kings Cross tommorow, we'll talk to him about it on the train ride up to Scotland." she said, decisively. As soon as she were ready, she walked down to the front door, determined she were going as soon as she possibly could. |
Kristi followed Marcella down the stairs. "Do you really think Dumbledore will let you go today?" she asked, but before Marcella could answer, they turned to see Dumbledore walking toward them. "It has been arranged. You may have a half an hour with him," Dumbledore said to Marcella. |
************** I'm skipping to azkaban now to speed things up a bit. She wrinkled her nose as the damp dingy walls of this rottening castle gave off unfriendly fumes thatwould remind one of death. Sweeping past a dementor, she shivered and closed her eyes as coldness drowned her briefly and she were reminded of the night they tore her from him. As suddenly as the memory had returned, it were gone and she found herself being lead down a gangway between various cells. Keeping her head facing the floor, she allwoed her tears to flow as she were led to a room, guarded at the doors by 2 dementors and then, inside, guarded by two Ministry Officials. Dumbledore clearly wasn't taking any chances with this. Her eyes searching the room, her vision distorted by her tears, she could just about make out a thinning dark figure, sat at a table, his hair far greasier than she had remembered it to be. |
Snape slowly looked up when he heard the door open. He was weary and the door had been opened so many times before... But, it was never her. A girl walked in and he blinked as he thought he saw her standing there; but it couldn't be her... As she came nearer, Snape stood up and reached out a hand to touch her, to see if she was real. Relief swept over him as his hand felt the familiar softness of Marcella's cheek and he enveloped her in his arms. He closed his eyes and hugged her close; never wanting to let go. |
ooc- you managed to make my eyes fill. omg Her heart no longer capable of standing it, she buried her head in his chest and placed her arms around him, her arms shaking as she did so. Wiping the tears from her angrily red face, she sobbed long and hard as he held her. Looking up into his eyes, she saw that they were starved, starved of love and affection and all signs of caring. Taking a hand to his face, as though to touch, to kno it really were him, she choked, "I love you." |
Snape took Marcella's hand and held it to his own cheek and closed his eyes briefly before looked into Marcella's eyes. She looked so worried. He kissed her fingers and held her hand to his chest. "I know," he whispered and took her in his arms again. He fought to keep himself from crying, but the dementors had already begun to take their toll and a tear streamed down his face as he brushed his cheek with Marcella's, their lips brushed and he whispered, "I love you, too," before pressing his lips against hers in a passionate kiss. |
Intensifying the kiss, holding him tighter than she had ever held anyone in her life, she held onto him as though her life truly depended upon it. The couple were only broken apart when one of the officials coughed and tore them apart, guding them toward chairs, dismissing their desparation. Still clinging to his hands, she sat and placed her knee in between his, blinking back her now over-flowing tears. Shaking her head, she lifted a hand to his face and said, detrminedly, "You cant stay here. This place, the atmosphere alone is slowly killing you." she commented, her tears now running freely down her cheeks as she felt ashamed of the way she had let Darrin treat her, whilst he were trapped here alone. "Kristi and I, we're working on an appeal, we're going to get you away from here." she choked, her eyes stinging once more, the desparation clear in her broken speech. |
He held her hand to his face. He wanted... he needed as much contact with her as he could right now. "It's no less than I deserve," he said, staring at the table. Then, he looked up at her and brushed the tears from her face and smiled at her. Those were his girls. They were fighters. "I know you'll try. But, don't worry about me when you fail. I'll be okay," he lied. Snape didn't think he could stand it in here another minute. Even as he sat there, gazing at Marcella, the images of the things he had seen and done danced in the forefront of his mind. |
"We wont fail." she told him determinedly. "We're not going to give up. I wont.." she choked, her words becoming caughtin her throat again, "I cant leave you here like this...every day that you're not there, a part of me dies and I know, that if we never get you back, then I'll be as good as gone. You've been there with me from the start, no-one else can help me now. I need you. We need you. Dumbleodre needs you. Kristi needs you. We have to fight the wrong that has been done." she sighed, wanting so despartely to rise up out of her chair and embrace him again. The closeness she couldn't live without, was all that kept her words going at these moments, but she could not guess for how much longer the man would survive in this god forsaken building. |
Snape held onto Marcella's hands from across the table. "Don't wait for me Marcella," he said, looking her in the eyes. As much as it hurt to say it, he didn't want her to stop living because he was gone. She deserved to have a normal life. With him locked up for the next ten years, she could finally be forced to leave him, and to be with someone her own age. He'd rest easier knowing that Marcella was happy; knowing that at least one of his crimes hadn't led to destruction. She didn't need him; not really. She only thought she did. But once some time had past, she would forget all about it; or so Snape hoped. Pulling himself together, Snape buried his feelings, returning to something resembling his former, sneering, self. "Go and live your life, Marcella," he said, giving her hands one last squeeze before pulling his hands away and breaking free of all physical contact with her. |
ooc- That was painstakingly beautiful. Stifling a sob, she raised the hand he had once held, to her face and cried briefly into it. The harshness in his voice bewildered her, but she knew his reasoning. He wanted her to move on. It would lessen the pain for both parties, but still, this could not convince her that she needed to move on. "We wont stop trying." she said, more of a statement than a question. "But," she sobbed, tears streaming down her cold cheeks, her hair gripping at the wet trails, "if you want me to let go, I have no choice but to." she said, possibly sounding the maturest she ever had in front of him. No longer able to look at him, she turned in her chair and wiped her eyes with a handkerchief handed to her by one of the officials. |
Snape didn't trust himself to say any more. His emotional control was hanging by a thread and he just couldn't risk saying something he would come to regret in the long nights to come. He looked away from her, unable to bear the tears that streamed down her pale face. He had been hoping she would scream at him and be angry at him for what he had just said; but instead, for the first time he could remember, she had merely accepted what he had said. Just as he was about to finally speak again, the door to the room opened and the dementors swept in to take him back to his cell. |
Standing to watch him as he left, she slipped her hand into his briefly, and squeezed it lightly, mumbling shotly, "Look after yourself. We'll all be thinking of you." she said, generalising because she didn't think he wanted her to say anything too personal. But, her emotional side taking over, she sighed and mouthed the words, "I love you." And she limply let go of his hand, regretting letting go and wanting to hold it again as soon as she had let go. |
In some ways, Snape was glad to be taken from the room. Her presence had been reassuring at first, but as the visit progressed it was far more effective torment than all he had suffered so far. To be so close and not be able to hold her. To have her so near and know that he could not have her, that he'd just be going back to his cold, dark, dank, empty, lonely, misery-filled cell.
