The year is 1976, and Dumbledore has just announced a formal ball exclusively for the 6th and 7th years. The twist? The boys must ask the girls to the ball by means of an anonymous letter, and it is the letter alone the girls must use to determine who will be their date.

With rushes of excitement and anxiety, the males of Hogwarts begin to write their letters, and James Potter is confident that by writing the perfect letter, he will be able to make Lily Evans go to the ball with him. However, Lily also receives another letter: one from Severus Snape, hoping that if she chooses his letter, it could lead them into something closer than friendship. In the event that he’s foiled by James yet again, he also writes a letter to Astoria, knowing that she and Remus have had longtime crushes on each other. Having a little crush on Astoria himself, Severus believes that if he can stir up trouble between Tori and Remus, at least one positive thing will result.

Who will go with who? Only this RP will tell.

Sirius rolled his eyes and shook his head, shaking his bangs into his eyes. "Na. I wown't tel 'ew." He said in a rather harsh Spanish accent. "And besides... if you didn't ask Lily.. we'd all start digging our graves now.." Merely joking, he laughed heartily and walked closely behind the two, looking back every now-and-then to make sure Severus wasn't following..

"I don't think I can recall any female but Lily that Prongs was ever in love with," commented Remus with a raised eyebrow. "You have to admire that consistancy. I think," he added on, with a little chuckle. As they rounded a corner he directed his gaze back to Sirius. "Which of course means it's only too fair that Padfoot tells us who he asked. Since it's quite obvious who Prongs and I are going to. And besides, we got you out of that crowd who wanted to know."

"I'm with Mooney! Now out with it. Anyway, I already wrote my letter, weren't you paying attention?" James was getting ancy. He wanted to know who Siruis asked, but more so what Lily thought of his letter.

Jessica smiled up at him and said "During break I spend time at home. Since my dad usually only gets time off over summer, and that's when we travel. Mom is always writing for the Daily Profit, so she spends a lot of time doing that. I will usually do school work or read a few books. But every evening during holiday me parents take the evenings off and we all eat dinner together. What muggle sports do you play?"

he smiled." that sounds nice." he couldnt remember the last time that happened at his house, years actually. since his mother died... and his siblings. all that was left was his and and him He hadnt told anyone about it, he kinda wanted it to stay that way. He didnt want any pity party." well. their isnt any family gathering's at my house but your welcome to come over . Its mostly just me at my house during the breaks. gets kinda boring, thats why i go into the muggle community.Im a quarterback for a local team, im a quarter back. basicly i through the ball to other players to get scores. If you want to, your welcome to come." he told her. He teased." yeah that and modeling." it was a good thing she didnt know what that meant. " anyway...What does your family do for fun." he asked her. He didnt know what families did to be honest. it would be nice to know ,that way he could make up some stories.

Dear Letross, Oh, what else? I'm extremely flattered that you asked me to the ball. I have to say I am quite interested in figuring out who you are, but I suppose you won't tell me until I see you at the ball.
Excited already, Charlie Well, that would have to do. And off she sent the letter.
Blake saw Jessyrah pass by, probably on the way to her common room, and wondered if she had a date yet. She was so pretty, she was bound to. He didn't know her very well, but they had some classes together, and she was smart too. But would she say yes if Blake did ask her?

I know, Tori! I'll come back and do it tonight, since I'm just gonna start his post off with writing the letter, but I only have about a minute here before dinner.

"Oh... did you?" asked Remus distractedly at James and the thought suddenly dawned on him that everyone had probably written their letters already. It was hardly the afternoon yet! "Maybe I'll just... erm, I have to go. I'll see you guys in a bit." He walked off from them, and instead of going to the Gryffindor Common room as planned, headed to the good ol' reliable library.

Elvira sighed and nodded glumly. "He needs to reach out to new opportunities," She said, her eyes watching him from under he eyelashes. "He needs to taste the other flavours before he picks his favourite. Infact, I think I would be his favourite flavour," She said, turning back to Cecilia with a defiant expression. "If I were an icecream that is..."

Elle smiled as she listened to Damien and Cecilia. Both genders had it hard with these types of things. Sure, the girls didn't have to do much, other than sit and wait, hoping that they will be fortunate enough to recieve a letter. Of course, the girls who didn't went down a few notches on the popularity scale.

Elvira smile at Cecilia and withdrew the note again. "I have no idea who it's from," She said. "I don't recognize the writing."
She paused for a moment, and glanced through her veil of dark hair to peek over at Severus. She quickly turned back to Cecilia, hoping she didn't notice.
"I'l have to think about it, accepting I mean," She said, knowing her friend would see right through her.
She took the opportunity gladly and smiled at Damien. "I suppose the guys don't talk about it nearly as much as we do."

He saluted Remus as he parted from James and him. "Make sure you don't actually panic in your letter!" Teasing partly, he chuckled looking at James with a raised eyebrow. "What do you think Prongs? Think he'll sink or swim?" Referring to the letter he figured Remus was about to write..

Victoria looked around wildly for Sirius. Where was he when she needed him? Her eyes searched her surrounding, not able to stop the boy. Ria had been hoping that she might just be able to catch his eye and accept his invitation then, but that did not seem to be happening. Oh, well. She would simply have to write he letter later.

Remus arrived in the library and heaved a sigh as he sat down at a deserted table near the back corner of the room, which also happened to be the corner in which he liked to sneakily eat chocolate every once in a while, despite the library rule. But not now. Now he had more pressing matters to attend to.

He took a glance around the library and gave an inward laugh; while there were students from the younger grades around who honestly seemed to be trying to do a good job on their homework, he spotted some 6th and 7th year boys who appeared to be hard at work on a letter.

After pulling out his quill and ink, Remus stared down at the blank parchment in front of him and wondered what he would say. It should have been so much easier this way...

Dear Astoria,
You are an intelligent girl, and therefore, it is quite likely that you already know what this letter is to be about. There is no one else I would be as delighted to escort to the ball than you. So there it is, simple as ever, but full of truth. To be around you makes my spirits rise, and I sincerely hope that you do not find it superficial of me to say that I think you are very beautiful, because I honestly do. Everything about you is striking, and I cannot help but be intrigued and hope that we two may have a wonderful night together.
Of course, if there is someone else you intend to be going with, do not feel guilty or upset. I would understand completely, and above all, I hope you will have a spectacular time at the ball.
But if you are accepting my invitation, then I would be most enchanted, and will see you the night of the ball.

Remus read over this, his heart pounding faster and feeling a little warm in the face, and did not know what to think of it. It seemed okay, and yet, he couldn't help but feel ridiculous in writing something like that. Suppose Tori thought his writing was stupid, or the things he said were laughable, or more importantly, just didn't want to go with him? Still, he'd finally gotten it written out, and it was now or never, wasn't it? It was time to be more daring in the romantic department as James and Sirius had always been.

He folded up his letter, sealed it in an envelope, and rushed to the owlery to borrow one of the school owls. Once he'd written 'Astoria' on the envelope and secured it to the owls leg, he watched it fly out with a feeling of anxiety rising inside him. Then he returned to the Gryffindor Common Room, and let himself collapse into an armchair near Lily's. "Hey, Lily. How is that essay going?"

The Hufflepuff common room was rather deserted, and although Alexei was normally the type of person who enjoyed rooms full of people, for once he enjoyed this more personal atmosphere. When Dumbledore had announced the ball, he was already sure of who he wanted to ask. He was sure of what he would say to her. The only thing he couldn't be sure of was her response, especially with the house she was in.

As he moved his quill closer to the parchment, he spotted the fourth year Hufflepuff boy that had been staring at him as he'd began writing his letter still watching him in awe. Alexei arched an eyebrow up at the boy. "You know, Derek, it's really not something as nerve-wracking as you appear to think it is. If Dumbledore had felt that not just the older students need a time to relax, dress up, and have fun with each other, I'm sure that you would have been able to handle it." Derek just shrugged at him. Alexei continued on. "I mean, I'm sure that if Dumbledore wanted to be fair, he might let the first through fifth years have a ball of there own. The Yule Balls from Triwizard Tournaments in the past have always allowed fourth year and above to attend. Perhaps he's just of the opinion that those of and about your age don't need to be bothered with the nerves that go with having to ask girls to a ball like this... anyway, didn't Professor Flitwick assign a Charms essay to you? You ought to go work on it. Flitwick can always tell when someone's finished it up at the last minute, and you don't want to be one of his last-minute slackers. Hurry along, now."

With Derek out of the way, Alexei reread what he had begun of his letter, and then finished it up.

Cecilia,
I am not like you, and you are not like me. However, it is differences that bring people closer together, and I would like to be brought closer together with you at the ball. I enjoy your sharp wit that radiates your beauty, and though we do not know each other well, I am sure that if I take you to the ball, we can have a fantastic night that you will never forget.

Yes... that sounded about fine. He knew Cecilia was a proud Slytherin, but he could be just as ambitious, sly, and cunning as her if he'd liked to be. And besides, it wasn't as though she actually had to know his house anyway. He doubted she even knew who he was, and that was a painful feeling. But Alexei was confident that just one night could give them a great time together, and by the end of it, a Hufflepuff going to the ball with a Slytherin wouldn't matter at all.

Alexei folded his letter carefully, and then took a walk to the owlery. He called down his tawny owl, fastened the letter to her leg, and set her on her flight.

"Swim," James replied with out hesitiation. "She likes him too, so it should be easy to write to a girl who already likes you. Now, I don't know if your mystery girl likes you, so we'll see when you tell. As for Lily, that letter had to be perfect for her to even consider going with me. I didn't even sign my name to it, but I think she'll know it's from me."

Peter was sitting in the common room when he received his date's letter. he wished he could be more excited about it but after this long he was wondering if something had happened. to be honest , he felt like she was just being nice to him. he took it out and read what she had wrote. she sounded really excited. peter sighed and took out parchment and wrote back to her.

I was beginning to think that you were never going to write back.I appreciate you writing back but if you don't want to go with me then you don't have to . Obviously your not particular found of the idea since you took so long to respond. I don't want to be a person that holds you back during the ball if you really want to go with someone else. He closed the letter and then attached the flower to the letter.it was then that he attached it to his own bird to deliver the message. He didn't want to be second best to anyone.

"Charlie, I think... I think he meant to be nice. I think he was trying to compliment you, he thought you'd like if he said you were pretty..." that was what Blake was hoping anyways. Please, please let him be right... "Just, go with him. See what he's like..."

Peter received the letter and read what it says. she was hard to impress, or he was just completely doing it wrong. he packed up his things and headed to the great hall. He of course was dressed in blue headed for the table with all the green colored characters. he saw where she was and then sat right next to her." who says i don't believe in myself." he said to her just breaking into it. which probably wasn't the best way but he was a bit irritated." its a bit hard to believe anyone would want to go with anyone when someone waits a week to reply to someone. i know it wasn't the best letter in the world but forgive me i don't write love letters all the time. Besides the letters are suppose to be anonymous. thats the point." he said to her but not in a harsh tone. He really couldn't be mean to her, even if she was a slytherin. " i just don't want to be second best to anyone,especially to you. i want you to be happy." he explained the reasoning for his letter.

Charlie was shocked. This must have been Letross. She shot a glare at Blake, he clearly knew who he was. Charlie was speechless, she actually had no idea what to say. Finally gaining words back, she scolded him, "Maybe I just didn't know what to say." Then, she turned back towards her table.

"maybe i didnt know what to say when i wrote my letter. its not exactly easy to write a letter to someone you really like , let alone someone who is smarter then you are." he said then sighing and looking at the table like she was.he smiled at her." Jessica was truly interested, and hung on his every word. She had no idea he had a life in the muggle world. "Oh! I want you to tell me all about what football is, and what modeling is. It sounds interesting! Oh, my family and I do the usual. We eat together, like I said. Oh, um, well, when my parents can we fly together. In the summer we go on out vacation. I've been to America, Irland, France, Italy, and Egypt. It's really fun!" She said as she started to shiver a little because of the cold snow all around her.

Blake nodded at him. "And don't argue with her, if she said you yelled... you yelled." Charlie glared at him. Making her look bad already. Blake only nudged her with his elbow. "No problem." he responded.
Charlie kind of coughed, and turned back to her cup of coffee that seemed to be following her everywhere. She sipped it, and looked down into it so she wouldn't have to say anything else.
