The year is 1976, and Dumbledore has just announced a formal ball exclusively for the 6th and 7th years. The twist? The boys must ask the girls to the ball by means of an anonymous letter, and it is the letter alone the girls must use to determine who will be their date.

With rushes of excitement and anxiety, the males of Hogwarts begin to write their letters, and James Potter is confident that by writing the perfect letter, he will be able to make Lily Evans go to the ball with him. However, Lily also receives another letter: one from Severus Snape, hoping that if she chooses his letter, it could lead them into something closer than friendship. In the event that he’s foiled by James yet again, he also writes a letter to Astoria, knowing that she and Remus have had longtime crushes on each other. Having a little crush on Astoria himself, Severus believes that if he can stir up trouble between Tori and Remus, at least one positive thing will result.

Who will go with who? Only this RP will tell.

Jackson sat in a chair in the Slytherin common room and began writing a letter to Elle. She was very pretty, a Slytherin, in his year, and seemed like she would say yes. He wrote:

Dear Elle,
I've been watching you, and you've been watching me. I know I want to go to the ball with you. I'm to shy say I've got a crush on you, but I hope you feel the same way. If you do, please go to the ball with me.

Elle felt the familiar peck of an owl's beak on her elbow and turned to see a tawny bird with a note in its mouth. She shrieked and grabbed the note, seeing her name scrawled on the front.
She shook it infront of Cecilia and opened it quickly. She read it through fast, then glanced up the table at Severus.
But then her face fell, it couldn't possibly be Sev, he was sitting right there, and she would have seen him write and send the letter.
She pocketed the note so that she could think this through. It wasn't as if she had to respond right away or anything...

"Aww now. C'mon Moony! We all know whom you fancy. It's not like it's not obvious or anything..." Sirius rolled his eyes and mock-glared his friend. "Besides, if that's not true, I know you have at least an inkling of an idea of whom you're going to ask.."

He then scoffed dramatically, staring at Remus. "And you won't have a problem getting who you want either.. It's not always about looks you know..."

He watched James come back in, right after Lily and Jessyrah's arrival. Chuckling he pat his mate on the back. "James, you think of it all.. don't you?" Marveling over how logical James was apprehending the matter, he really did need to take some time and think over who he was going to ask. Problem was, he knew that by the time he actually did get around to asking.. the girl of his choice would be taken. Of course, this was the fear among most of the guys anyway.. which made him feel somewhat better.

Damien lifted his head slowly to look at Cecilia after the fact she had hit him with her foot. Grunting, he sighed softly and shifted in his seat. "Course it's the ball Cel.. What do you think?" He mumbled softly, quietly going back to eating, but looking up at her in expectation of a reply.

"I was actually thinking of not going..." Suddenly he admitted this outloud to her, but regretted it immediately. He knew how excited she was about the whole ordeal in the first place. Quickly, he looked back down at his plate.

Victoria watched as the boys left for class. She knew she should be going with them. Sighing decidedly, Ria stood and exited the Great Hall, spotting the boys and Jessyrah as she walked by.

Amanda looked around the Great Hall, starting with the Gryffindor table. Deciding to slip over a few seats, she found herself in the little group that consisted of Remus, James, Sirius, and Jessyrah. She assumed the main conversation was revolving around the ball. Really? What else was everyone talking about? "Hey you lot," she said with a grin.

Kevin quickly entered the Great Hall and slipped next to Amanda. He gave everyone a wave before his eyes travled up and down the four house tables. This ball was putting alot of stress on him. He wasn't sure who to ask. And even if he did know, how did he know that she would say yes? Maybe staying in the common room would be a good idea...

"My dear ol' Padfoot you are right. I do think of everyhting!" Looking around he spotted Lily and thought to himself, everything except for what to say to Lily in that letter. "So, we all know who I'm asking and who Moony's asking," he said clapping remus on the sholder. "Who are you asking, Padfoot?"

Victoria stopped mid-step at James's question. Curious, she walked over to the group and eyed Sirius with mild interest. "Yes, who are you taking?" she asked teasingly, lifting a thin eyebrow at the boy.

Blake had been leading the way and Charlie following, but as they passed the Gryffindor table on the way out, she couldn't stop but listen to who Sirius was taking to the ball. She could always blame it on curiousity, but deep down Charlie knew it wasn't. Every girl had a soft spot for Sirius Black.
Blake had heard the question too, and he knew Charlie would stop to hear the answer. Truthfully, Blake himself wanted to know who Sirius would ask, just so he didn't try and ask the same girl. He didn't stand a chance against Sirius.

"Morning, Jessyrah," Remus said, readjusting himself on the bench as Jessa made room for herself. As two more newcomers joined the table, he smiled in greeting to them. "Hello Amanda, Kevin." And then in all predictability, a most intriguing conversation pertaining to the ball began again, and Remus turned his head back to the direction of it. "I don't know, Padfoot's got an audience now," he said with a slight grin, glancing around at the faces before resting his eyes on James. "You think he's really going to let us know here?"

It was then that peter and josh walked into the room with smirks across their faces. they were obviously up to something. peter was walking straght when josh pushed him into charlotte. "sorry." he said to charlotte then glaring at josh." your charlotte right?" he asked her.

Josh just smirked as he walked over to the rest of the gang. "Hey remus! " he said then sitting down." so ... big question of the day... who has the brilliant man picked out?" he asked grabbing some pumpkin juice.he had hardly noticed that their was new people." Oh hey, sorry. hi!" he said but going back to remus.

James grabbed the stitch that was forming in his side from laughing so hard. "It's alright Sirius. No need to answer in front of an audience. Didn't mean to put you on the spot there, pal," he managed to say through his laughter. "Well boys, let's get on to class. Hooray for Muggle Studies!" he sarcastically exclaimed.

Cursing under his breath, Sirius looked around at everyone who was staring at him. He was definitly put on the spot. "Er..." He mumbled, looking down at the table, staring on one spot, making it look like he was interested in it. "I.. well.. I haven't quite thought of it. Yet." Finally stating, he nodded with a quite pleased expression.

Hopefully that was enough to bugger off James, Victoria, and the others, but for some reason he didn't think so. His head began to hurt as he went to thinking of who he could ask. Who was there left that he knew of.. that wasn't going to already recieve a letter?

Staring at James as he went off to class, he sighed heavily, stood, and saluted to the others. "I'm with him." He said in hopes of getting him out of the spotlight. "See you." Firmally stating, he swung his bag over his shoulder and followed James out of the Great Hall.

"Oy! Prongs! .. Wait up!" He called after, shuffling along quickly to catch up with his friend. "Dude..." He started, making a disgruntled face. "It's not like I wouldn't of said who I would be asking... but I need to know who I'm taking first!"

James was a bit taken aback and his face showed it. "I'm sorry mate! I thought you have had it all worked out by now. Hope you're not mad. If you need some help choosing a date, let me know. I'm sure the Marauders could pick out a bloody fine lady for you!" James opened the door to their Muggle Studies class and stepped back for Sirius to go through first. "See I have it all worked out that I'm going to write my letter to Lily, and Moony's writing his to Astoria, no question about that," he said with a bit of laughter. "Wormtail might need a bit of help with the ladies I'm afraid to say," he added in a hushed voice as they slipped into the class room.

"Yeah..." Sirius paused to look ahead and stare as they walked. "No, I'm not mad. I'm just.. confused. I mean.. who's there left to take to this thing?" He asked aloud, stepping infront of James to enter their class. Surely there were still plenty of ladies to choose from to take.

As class would start soon, Sirius sat down in his seat next to James and made a mental list of all the girls he could think of that still didn't have someone to go of. That he knew. At least. Victoria, Charlie, Jessyrah, Jessica, Amanda, Isadora, and Madeline. That he knew of. Oh.. bugger!

Letting his head fall to the desk before him, Sirius groaned and turned his head to James, then as suddenly as he had turned his head, he stood. Smacking his forehead, he saluted to James and said, "Catch you later mate, I know who I'm going to ask!" And with that was out the door. Blast class, who needed Muggle Studies anyways?

He ran up through the halls back towards the Great Hall, then towards the Gryffindor Common Room and to his favorite chair by the fire. Jumping in it, he began shuffling through his bag for parchment and a quill. He was hoping it would get to her in time...

Setting both supplies before him, Sirius went to start writing, but had an extremely difficult time doing so. What would he write? What would he say to her? How would he go about asking her? Taking a very shaking and nervous breath, he started writing:

Dear Victoria,

I was really hoping to escort you to this coming Ball. Honored would I be to have you at my side for the evening. And I'm not just saying that to be all heart-swooning, or pretend that I'm the most dashing of them all...

I really mean it. Maybe you'll take it into at least some consideration? Or maybe you've already been whisked away by some other lucky guy? .. Either way, let me know A.S.A.P.

There! That wasn't.. so.. bad...
Re-reading the letter nearly a hundred times, he was starting to wonder if that would be good enough. He put into words what he felt and would've said to her. He thought so anyway.

Folding the letter neatly, he went his way towards the owlery now, climbing to the top and running half-way, reaching a free owl in no-time.
Then out of breath, and with a knot in his stomach, he made his way back down towards the Great Hall. The owl would reach her in no time, and he didn't know if he wanted to actually be in the Great Hall when she recieved it or not. Then everybody would know...

Instead, he hide outside his Muggle Studies class and waited for James.

Josh went to the owlery to give his owl a letter with Jessica's name on it. He had asked peter to write the letter for him so that she wouldn't know it was him. This way she wouldn't think that he was asking because she hadn't been asked yet. Peter kept saying that she would know that it was his own hand writing and think that he was asking her. Josh was convinced other wise. He would just have to wait till she figure it out. he looked at it once more

Your the smartest girl in hogwarts, so im sure you've got a box full of letters from guys. I look at you everyday , and you don't even know how much i like you.If i could tell you one thing, its that i look at you and i know that the world was beautiful. josh shook his head, she wouldn't think it was peter. he folded it up and tied it to the leg of his owl. He grabbed his things and headed off to class.

Blake looked at his sister and quietly exited the room. He'd get a head start up to Defense Against the Dark Arts class. He still couldn't think of who to write to. Why was this so difficult?

Blake did a double-take. Wasn't that guy just talking to Charlie? "Yeah, I'm Blake. Who wants to know?" he asked, well, it was more of a grumble really. Blake didn't talk to many people, and wasn't used to anyone looking for him.
That was quick, and weird. He just said hi, and bye... oh, and asking who Blake was, but... well, that was weird in itself, honestly. Her head was practically spinning. But what had Sirius said?

Peter just ignored his grumble." Im Peter Letross. im the one who asked your sister to the ball. I was just wondering if you could tell me what her favorite flower is. I want to do something special for her. Oh and if you could keep it a secret that you know who i am, that would be great." he said, but then thinking,' well , if she says yes, then i will be taking her." he said waiting for him to answer.

When Sirius jumped up and left James got slightly confused. Since he wasn't there he decided to take notes for Sirius as well as himself. When the lesson was over James opened the door and stepped out of the class room and was face to face with Sirius. "Padfoot! Why did you leave? Who did you write to?"

Jessica walked out of Muggle Studies and went quickly to Gryffindor Tower. She didn't have a class in between Muggle Studies and lunch, so she always did some homework in the gap. When she got up to the common room she took her favorite seat, took her work out, and began to read her assignments. Then she heard a tapping at the window. She got up and opened it. It was an owl with a letter for her. She patted the owl on the head, "Thank you." She went back to her seat and unfolded the paper. She read the letter and wide grin broke over her face. Someone thought she was smart and beautiful, and he wanted to take her to the ball. She grabbed a small piece of parchment and wrote, "YES!" and drew a heart next to it and, "Please tell me who you are, please." She folded it and tied it to the owl's leg and sent the owl back to the sender. When she went back to her work she found it hard to concentrate.

thanks." he said with a smile. he really did like his sister. he started off but then stopped asking again." eh... one more question. how bad was the letter?" he asked him, he was sure it was probably going to get a bad review."oh and does she like snow?" he shouldnt probably be asking him questions about his sister but he wanted to be secretive.

Josh felt his bird land on his arm as he was sitting in the library. he took the note and read it with a smile. she said she would go, that was a good sign. he smirked, he could have fun with this right. he took out another parchment and then starting witting.
that would take away from anonymous part. I have the next class with you, see if you can pick me out. -anonymous. he smiled and then tied it to the birds leg, sending it off to deliver the message.

Now peter made a grumble." thats what i thought." he said then looking a bit sad about it." thanks ." he said with a smile. " i'll see you later." he said then heading off for good this time. He headed to the commons to think up some ideas.

Jessica could no longer concentrate on her homework, so she put it all away and went up to her room. She pulled out all of her clothes and way in the back was a dress her mother had bought her over the summer. It was a beautiful, strapless, blue, gown. She loved it and decided that would be what she would wear. She heard a familiar tapping and reopened the window to the same owl. In different writing she read the note. She smiled to herself and sent the owl off. She got her things together and went to lunch early.
