*PLOT*
Morpheus Howl is a reclusive wizard with few friends and many enemies. His castle is rumoured to contain a hoard of magical knowledge untapped by the Wizarding World. While he dodges Ministry officials on a daily basis, Howl has agreed to take 5 promising young students from Hogwarts over the summer break and teach them some of what he knows. It will be a springboard for their magical abilities, but first they have to adapt to his rather peculiar methods...
*Ashwinder's Role*
Similar to a Game Master in Dungeons and Dragons, my role will be to RP as secondary characters and nudge the plot along. I will not be forcing actions on any characters. If a scene is slowing down, I will PM the people in that scene and suggest they wrap it up so we can move to the next one.
*Characters Needed*
Much like the kids with the five golden tickets, the five users who join will each RP as one of the five chosen students. There are a few guidelines (and I do mean a few) in character creation:
1. Your character must have completed his/her OWLs. This means they must be at least 15.
2. Please try to mix up the houses.
3. NO animagi or metamorphmagi (though if it's their goal to become the former that's fine). Howl is a suspicious man and wouldn't let either type of magi in his castle.
Please PM me (Ashwinder) if you would like to join this RP.
*Important Note*
This is an RP for HYPERactive RPers. This means that people participating in this RP should be willing to play at least 4 nights a week, for at least an hour or two each time. I know this sounds pretty intense, but it keeps the plot moving at an equal pacing between characters. If you would still like to play but don't think you can spend that much time, PM me and we'll try to work out a smaller role.
3. Personality: Liatris is a keenly observant girl who can be rebellious when she chooses. She tends to be quiet and solitary but does have a few friends and gets along well with her fellow Ravenclaws. She is keen on self defense and wit, possibly inspired by her mother's tales of fighting in the Battle for Hogwarts. Liatris also dislikes others being picked on, hated, ridiculed or stepped on-- she will defend, when it is nescissary for her to do so. She is keen on learning, and soaks up as much as she can.
4. Physical Appearance: Tall thin girl, long reddish-brown hair to her shoulderblades with simple cut bangs, hazel eyes. She has peirced ears. Wears her hair down most of the time and only puts it up in a small half ponytail or completely up in a twist when she is doing detailed work, like potions or studying.
5. Magical Strengths: Charms and Transfiguration, decent with DADA.
6. Magical Weaknesses: Potions, History of Magic, Potions, and would like to continue improving on DADA.
7. Goals: Would like to become an Auror, so is interested in learning more skills surrounding intuition, defense in both physical, verbal, and magical, would like to learn more spells and dueling, learn about different kinds of magic and how it functions in Howl's world, and improving her Potions and general knowledge of the world around her, both wizarding and muggle.
8. Background: Liatris is half muggle half pureblood. Her mother Gloria fought in the Battle for Hogwarts and was critically injured and makes frequent trips to St. Mungo's. When she is well, Gloria works in Diagon Alley in the bookstore and occaisionally works in Hogwarts as a research aid for the students. Liatris's father Johnathan is a muggle, who works in the postal service in a higher level position. Therefore, the Greyfeathers are middle class family who can provide a decent living for themselves. They live in the small village of Haye-on-Wye in Wales, where Liatris works in one of the many bookstores over the summer-- she works here because her grandmother, (her father's mother) comes over frequently to take care of the house, and because Liatris wishes to help contribute to the family, and, so she has money to bus herself into Cardiff to get away from her grandmother and spend some time observing and talking to fellow witches and wizards. Liatris has a few friends in Hogwarts, most of which she gets along with very well; however she tends to prefer her solitude. Liatris has learned to put up with her nosy and condescending grandmother and wants nothing else for her mother to be well. She appreciates her father's respect of her mother and of her, since he found it difficult to deal with his wife and daughter being witches; Johnathan is doing everything he can to support both of them, despite the fact his mother wants him to divorce Gloria and put Liatris into a private year round boarding school to get a real education. Liatris is a Ravenclaw, like her mother, and has friends in Gryffindor and Hufflepuff.
9. Expectations of Howl: To learn about his world, his way of magic, to learn his style of self defense, particularily interested in his non-wand casting of magic, and, to simply get out of the way of her grandmother.
10. Miscellaneous Stuffs: Liatris has a black cat called Mozart she takes to Hogwarts with her.
Text Cut: McKey Hall
1. Name: McKey Hall
2. Age: 17
3. Personality:Have you ever heard of the term: inside voice? Yes? Well, McKey doesn’t have one. Ultimately, he is just loud and often obnoxious. He is oblivious to the feelings of those around him. Something of a Potions Master (or you know, Iron Potions Chef if you ask him), McKey sometimes finds himself away from normal civilization for days. Inside his robes, he carried dozens of little vials of potions “just in case” he’ll ever need them.
4. Physical Appearance: see above
5. Magical Strengths: Potions
6. Magical Weaknesses: Charms
7. Goals: World Domination. Or, you know, at least have a book published. That would be awesome.
8. Background: Muggleborn, McKey is the only son of a currently defunct marriage. He lives with his Mother, Augustine Rogers who works in a bra manufacturing company. His mother wasn’t very much surprised when they received McKey’s Hogwarts letter. She always felt that his Father was hiding from her. There were also a few sentences about his personality that shouldn’t be divulged to children.
9. Expectations of Howl: To learn how to rule the world or you know, at least get his book published. He’s a simple man with simple needs and wants.
10. Miscellaneous Stuffs: He likes to eat salty chips with chocolate hazelnut spread. Ask not.
Text Cut: Nadia Kharie
1. Name: Nadia Kharie
2. Age: 16
3. Personality: A fighter till the end; strong willed; stubborn; no tolerance for authority; rebel; never been one to turn down a dare or challenge no matter if she is matched for the task or not; always takes risks; extremely protective of the small group she ‘rolls’ with and has little tolerance or care for or about anyone outside of that group; distant and refuses to open up about anything; lives one day at a time; bright and intelligent but lacks the patience and tolerance for studies; advocate for the merging of imagination and reality; private dreamer though she’ll never admit to it
5. Magical Weaknesses: Astrology, Potions, Herbology, Divination, History
6. Goals: To get out of Hogwarts and school; doesn’t have any goals or plans beyond that as she doesn’t see the point in making any, as anything can happen at anytime to screw things up
7. Background: Abandoned at a London hospital shortly after being born, Nadia grew up in an orphanage for a good portion of her life before jumping between foster homes. Having no memory of her parents or knowledge of her family, Nadia never really found a place to call home, nor did she have any idea of her magical talents. At a young age she fell into a bad crowd of street kids and spent most of her time with them, becoming a skilled parkour and slowly learning of her magical abilities and putting them to use (mostly through transfiguration and charms). Every foster home she was placed in, she got removed from due to either her lack of tolerance for authority and her time spent with her friends on the streets, or because the home wasn’t suited to her. At the age of 11 she was caught by police for vandalism and while her friends escaped, she was pulled into the station. A former Professor from Hogwarts working at the Police station reviewed Nadia’s case and made a deal with her that if she came to Hogwarts with him she would remain out of juvy, and if she graduated then all charges would be dropped. So, she went to classes and was placed in Ravenclaw despite her expectations for Slytherin. Her first time around anyone or anything magical besides herself, it was a difficult adjustment and she remained solitary, except for Liatris who became her grounding foundation at Hogwarts, helping Nadia with homework and staying out of trouble. To try and tame her wild side she was offered a chance to be on the quiddich team and, achieving the position finds it the closest thing to parkour she can get at Hogwarts, though she still practices the street running. She has remained on the team since, becoming Captain and Chaser ; they and Liatris make up her only family at Hogwarts and she will protect them against anything; Professor, student, buldger or death
8. Expectations of Howl: None, as she expects of most people.
9. Miscellaneous Stuffs: Has a Raven as a pet/familiar; hates dogs; prefers to wear regular ‘street’ clothes rather than school uniform and will do so as often as possible; is a night owl and hates mornings, especially early mornings; is an abstract artist and photographer; Captain and Chaser of Ravenclaw Quiddich team
10. House: Ravenclaw
11. Blood Status: Unknown
Text Cut: Kathrynna Knight
Name: Kathrynna “Kit” Knight
Age: 16
Personality: Goes by the name of Kit. Don’t call her Kathrynna, don’t call her Knight. Just Kit. Sometimes grating, Independent and with no care in the world when it comes to others opinion on her, Kit is not the kind of person to get into verbal arguments, so she prefers to be the bigger person and walk away. She would not, however, walk out from a physical altercate; extremely fond of sports and exercising as she is, Kit would most definitely jump into a fight even if it has absolutely nothing to do with her.
When stressed out, she often resorts to compulsive baking, which leaves her smelling like sweet cake batter. Very outgoing, Kit is far from being shy and a wallflower. She does have, however, a fairly competitive side to her, which tends to bring the worst in her, for she adores winning and will not stop at any means to achieve her goal.
Physical appearance
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Dark, wavy and cut in layers
Complexion: Pale, almost unhealthily so, but not quite.
Build: Slim, bordering the line of skinny
Height: 5’6
General appearance: There is nothing particularly striking about Kit Knight. She can be pretty if she tries, certainly, but Kit doesn’t - she just does not care for such trivial things and therefore, her looks just falls in the mildly attractive category. Her hair is usually pulled up in a high ponytail or just worn down. Clothing is fairly simple: Jeans, clean cut blouses and flat shoes are her BFF’s.
History - Background: Kit’s parents work abroad, so she was raised by her older sister, Kaythlinn. Still lives with her, as a matter of fact, and thinks more of her parents as some second cousins she likes and enjoys to be with, but hardly knows a thing or two about them. That doesn’t mean, however, that Kit scorns for them, because she doesn’t; she’s just slightly resentful that her sister DID get to grow up with them, when she was not granted with such an opportunity. But it’s all good, since she’s rather content with the life she’s currently got.
Extras: The Knight’s are strictly middle class.
Text Cut: Shaydrach Park
Name: Shaydrach Park
Age: 15
Personality: Shaye is... eccentric. That's really the best word for it. An avid and intelligent teenager, with a rather high IQ, he's nonetheless a bit weird in his peers' eyes. He has a deep love of mice, and claims any mouse that he comes across as his pet. He's also fairly obsessed with Inferi and their muggle counterparts, zombies. He believes that he can control them (he can't), and that he has a large amount of them at his disposal (he doesn't), but he chooses not to invoke them in most cases. Teenagers and their petty spats aren't worth it.
Magical Strengths: Decent at charms and other spells, particularly defence spells.
Magical Weaknesses: Easily distracted sometimes so... yeah those defence spells? We need to work on the timing for those. Is nearly incapable of identifying plants in the wild/greenhouses.
Goal: Obtain a greater grasp on magic so he can control the Inferi more efficiently.
Background: Born into a middle-class Wizarding family, Shaye is the son of the Korean-born wizard Park MinHo and the English-born witch Kristina Truttle. He has two sisters; one older named Ariella (22) and one younger, named Sun (7). From a young age he boasted an over-active imagination and love for Muggle comic books, especially comics about zombies and the ensuing apocalypses associated with said creatures. Hyper and talkative, he was the bane of his teachers' existences as he would rarely sit still for an entire class, choosing instead to move about the classroom under the desks, putting beetles on his classmates' knees and performing other small acts of silliness or slight vandalism. Despite his hyper demeanor and his strange habits, he was nonetheless a friendly child, and after receiving his first mouse-ear hat at the age of 8, he offered to let the people in the class that he liked wear it whenever they wanted to. When he was 9, his first real explosion of magical activity occurred. His family had been shopping in a mall and had gone into a pet store to have a look around (Ariella wanted to have a look at the rabbits, as it was her 16th birthday and she wanted one); the owner of the store was in the process of feeding a snake. Shaye's attention was caught by the horrific act and he watched as the owner dropped a few mice into the tank for the creature. He'd always liked snakes, and he loved mice... but not together. As the snake struck to eat one of them, the tank exploded, killing the snake, and all the glass tanks in the store that contained mice disappeared. All the mice, urged on by Shaye, made a break for it, as the owner stood dumbfounded by what was happening in the wreckage that had been his store. Rumour has it that the mice are now living happily in a field somewhere and have erected a shrine in Shaye's honour, but as the rumour came from Shaye's own mouth one cannot be sure if it can be trusted.
Now older, Shaye still has a deep love of mice, and will not stand to see violence taken against them. His favourite accessory is his mouse hat, which he wears every so often to class (and doesn't seem to think this is a strange thing to do, either...); if you're a friend, he may offer to let you wear it for a little while, if he hasn't forgotten that he's wearing it himself. He enjoys flying and attempting to draw his own comics. Most of them are gory tales of Zombie Apocalypses which all end with one man becoming the King of the Zombies. Curiously, this man is almost always wearing a mouse-ear hat. He is still rather eccentric and odd, and he fireproofs his boxer shorts with a charm, daily. Because... we all know there will be someone who wants to set his crazy butt on fire one day, won't there be.
Expectations of Howl: Shaye expects Howl to teach him methods of timing his magic, how to better control magical creatures (Inferi!), and he expects Howl to not be cruel to mice. Also he expects Howl to not touch his head. Ever. EVER.
Headmaster Eridia Fortenbras paced back and forth in her office, not quite able to look at the man standing by the window. To say that she was irritated would be a very serious understatement. It was practically the end of term at Hogwarts; the children in 5th, 6th, and 7th years were all finished their examinations, and were just waiting for the younger students to be done. Instead of spacing the exams out evenly, Eridia had crunched the older students’ exams together at the beginning of the testing period and crammed the younger students’ tests in at the end. It was a stressful time for everyone in the castle, and why had she done it?
For this man. Who was now saying he was having second thoughts. The students had been competing for the five coveted spots as interns for him since the first week of school. Now was not the time for him to be considering backing out!
“I’ve already sent the five students letters asking them to meet me here. And to meet you. May I ask why you’re suddenly getting cold feet? Don’t forget our agreement…”
He looked over his shoulder at her irritably, “I remember it. Take five interns for the summer, or take a teaching post here for a year. I didn’t think you were serious.”
“Morpheus Howl, I may be older than when you were my student, but I can still tan your ungrateful hide.” She smacked her wand across her palm in a decidedly unfriendly motion, but her next words were reassuring, “These students are Hogwarts’ finest. They’re bright children willing to learn. Like you were.”
Chewing on a peice of muggle gum, Nadia probably looked rather out of place in the hallways with her near-knee-ripped jeans, faded and scruffed leather jacket unzipped halfway to reveal a black t-shirt with dull silver script across the chest and white, tribal patterns extending from the shoulders. She could have cared less to adorn her school uniform and conform with the rest of the students milling about the halls or scuttering off to exams; she was finished with classes and to her that was the same as being finished with the uniform.
Weaving easily through the swarm of students, using the side ledges every now and then to dodge a particularly slow group or sudden stop, she made her way quickly and effortlessly up to the Headmistresses office. It made no sense why she had been 'chosen' for this 'adventure'. She had put little effort into her exams and cared less about being the top student. All she wanted was to get out of the school, and this summer assignment...thing wasn't helping any; it was just a big, unneccessary interference.
Pushing her hair to the side of her face she side-stepped a particularly lax group of second years and bounded up the steps to her destination. Not missing a stride as she muttered the code word to the gargoyles, catching one of their horns with her hand to give her leverage to slip inside and up a smaller flight of stairs. Yanking the crumpled note out of her back pocket, Nadia rapped smartly on the door before dropping her back against the adjacent wall and shoving her hands in her pockets to wait.

"Magenta Dutch," he enthused, hands in his pockets. Extraordinarily enough, nothing was going on with the petrified gargoyle. "Huh." Rocking back and forth on the balls of his feet, McKey cast his light eyes down the hall.
That's what the note had said, hadn't it? Was there a slight chance that he, Merlin and Morgana Forbid, had made some kind of error? He really should just get another remembrall. After all, he had lost the 68th one the night before yesterday; or was it the night before yesterday night?
Hair was perfectly tied in one high ponytail, that hung loosely around the middle of her back. The uniform was impecable, and she'd even made sure to watch a house-elf from the kitchen as it did their version of ironing her robes. Really, Kit Knight had never felt more ready in her life.
Yup, she was ready to face ... whatever it was that she'd have to face.
Brunette head held high as she strolled her way to the Headmistress' office, and having to kick a few people out of her way in the process, the Gryffindor muttered the password to the Gargoyle and up she went. To the meeting.
And now that Kit thought about it, her nerves were slowly, but surely and thickly kicking it.
Of course this sort of luck would befall Liatris Greyfeather. Of course she had packed her best school uniform in the bottom of her trunk and it just so had to happen that she had to meet with the Headmistress. It did not help either she had stayed up late the night before packing her trunk and attempting to catch her cat, Mozart, and trying to keep him in the vicinity of her sixth year dormitory.
But, dispite this, she had passed her exams. The knowledge she had come out of the exams as one of the five top students countered the frantic unpacking of her trunk, hurried dressing and a quick check in the mirror before she hurried past celebratory Ravenclaw fifth years and wove through the crowds of stressed looking students up to the Headmistress's office.
When she arrived she noticed there was a boy standing with his hands in his pockets and sizing up the gargoyles, and, he clearly appeared confused. Liatris looked up at the gargoyles, then back at the boy.
"Password's Magenta duchy, if you need to see the Headmistress." Liatris said with a small smile as the gargoyles revealed the staircase.

Reason: totally didn't see McKey, spelling fail
Tugging on the pom poms, each tug setting his hat off-center to the opposite side, Shaye made his way out of the dorm and up to the Headmaster's Office. It hadn't been a difficult decision to wear his uniform at the very least. More difficult was the task of finding one that was fully clean. Thank Merlin for cleaning charms in a pinch.
"Magenta duchy." He spared a glance at the person standing there, staring at the gargoyle as if he could move the thing by sheer mental will. "You've got to say it aloud, mate."
With that, he made his way up to the office. There was a girl already waiting outside of it... Someone he knew for sure, but he couldn't be bothered at the moment to remember names. It was safe to assume she'd already knocked, so Shaye paused next to her, eyes trained on the door.
Howl wanted to respond to his former professor, even if it was a rather cutting answer, but the unmistakable sound of knocking came from the door and he turned his back to the window, leaning against the frame and crossing his arms. As she moved to the door he called, “How do I know you’re not going to make me take these kids now, and then later make me teach here as well?”
She turned her nose up at him, “Learn to trust, Howl.”
And with that she opened the door and took in the students gathered there, “Why, look at you all! So prompt! Come in, come…” her eyes lingered on Nadia briefly, but she didn’t comment. Instead she stood aside to let them into the room, “I’d like all of you to meet your mentor for the summer; Morpheus Howl.”
She gestured to him and sent a message through her eyes that clearly said ‘be nice.’
Liatris followed the others into the Headmistresses office, sliding up beside Nadia. It was no suprise her friend was here too-- Liatris had stayed up most nights with Nadia "studying", which meant Liatris had to keep her on track and from getting distracted. She was greatly pleased her friend had made the top five.
Tugging on Nadia's jacket sleeve Liatris whispered hurriedly into Nadia's ear. "Congrats, but why didn't you tell me? And you could have at least worn a better pair of jeans."
Nadia was about to settle into the room she loathed so much, when a sudden tug on her sleeve forced her to take a step back from the desired floor space she had chosen. About to snap at whoever had done such a thing Nadia began to snatch her arm away when she realized who it was.
"Liatris." Blink blink.
Of course Liatris. She honestly hadn't suspected she herself would be on the top five, but Liatris was a definite bearer of that title. "I just got the note today. And what's wrong with these?" She shook out one of her legs and shrugged. "They're comfortable."
School uniforms were not comfortable. And it didn't look like the the attire the man at the window was adorning was either. She could feel her face scrunch up in distaste at the outfit. So this was Howl. The one Morpheous Howl that was taking away her summer for a ride on a floating castle. A heavy breath escaped her and she glanced at her friend. "I hope you have enough excitment for the both of us, because I've run dry."

Magenta Dagger? That would have been amusing. The password was not a weapon possibly used to murder someone with an allergy to shocking pink colors though. It was more of....
"Magenta Duchy," repeated McKey after the girls, mouth twisted in disgust, eyes wide with horror. What sick Headmistress were they under?
Oh, yeah. The very same one he had been for seven years. Then folk wondered why he turned out the way he had turned out. Hall barely caught the last end of the speech as he hurried up the steps.
Standing by the...err...smart looking one (go figure!), McKey panted. No one would notice he was late, right? It was a pity he hadn't brought that potion with him. "Morpheus?" repeated the young man, stepping into the office he had visited far too often. Heh. Who knew Potions accidents would be attention-grabbing?
Blow up a few too many cauldrons and you'd have the Headmistress stalking you in your sleep. Not that he minded. Rawrr. "That sounds intimidating. Don't you agree?" he whispered to the nearest faceless student. Faceless, they all were to him. "MORE FEE US. I almost feel like handing over my galleons to him. That can't be normal."
Pushing away from the wall, Naida was about to slip away from the wall and settle into the room she loathed so much when a sudden tug on her sleeve forced her to take a step back from the desired floor space she had chosen. About to snap at whoever had done such a thing Nadia began to snatch her arm away when she realized who it was.

Liatris followed Nadia's eyes to Mr. Howl. He was staring at them all as if they would all suddenly turn into scavenging nifflers. Given his outfit he looked as if he'd stepped out of a very odd fairytale book-- Liatris was pretty sure robes like his were not sold at Madame Malkins. Nonetheless, he was the man she wished to learn from, fairytale robes or not.
"Oh come on Nadia. It isn't that bad. Just think. You can spend all summer with people instead of holing yourself up in Hogwarts." Liatris didn't bother responding about the jeans. There wasn't much point in getting into an argument about it. Instead she shifted herself a bit behind Nadia and observed the three other students and further studied the odd Mr. Howl.
It wasn't by accident that Shaye stood away from... everyone else. He was the youngest. All of them... were older than he was.
He wasn't intimidated. He just... didn't talk to any of them, was all. Which meant they didn't know that he was in charge of... everything. Didn't matter that he was only 15. He... was... yeah.
Eyes on the Headmistress, he straightened his hat, trying to make the fair bit of space between him and one of the girls less-noticeable.
...what a funny outfit. Shaye did his version of sneaky staring, eyes flitting from person to person, lingering only slightly longer on the person of interest.
Kit was purposely ignoring everyone. Or at least, she was ignoring everyone under the age of seventeen.
Instead, the Gryffindor focused her attention on the so-called-Morpheus Howl person, and realized that just like Nadia, he wasn't particularly pleased to be there. But then Morpheus expression didn't seem of one to be displeased, either.
Huh. Kit couldn't quite figure out this man that was to be her their mentor during the summer.
So she instantly resorted to dislike him. And distrust him, too, of course.
Eridia sighed as the students whispered and stared at Howl, and he stared right back. Honestly, it was like they were all first years. She ushered them in like a mother hen, closing the door firmly behind her. From the momentary panic that crossed Howl’s face, she could tell that he’d thought she was going to leave him alone with his charges. Not that she hadn’t considered it.
“Well now, here we are!” She jostled the five into a line and moved down it, tapping each one on the head as she went, “Liatris Greyfeather, Nadia Kharie, McKey Hall, Shaydrach Park, and Kathrynna Knight.”
Howl’s eyes met briefly with each student as Eridia introduced them, and he couldn’t help but raise an eye at the boy with the mouse hat. Hmm, that was a strange one. Saying nothing about the girl in baggy boy’s clothing, of course. At least the other two young ladies were dressed nicely. Although one was staring at him with a facial expression he recognized as his. He practically had a patent on it.
Eridia was staring at him, so he cleared his throat and stood up straight, holding his hands together behind his back, “Well, none of you are bothering me so far, so I suppose this wasn’t a complete mistake.” He could see the headmistress getting ready to hex him and hastily added, doing a little half-hop away from her, “And! What I mean by that is that I was hoping for inquisitive minds and it looks like I got them.” Mouse hat. “So… what ah… how do you normally spend your summer?”

Because he definitely spent his away from people.
Liatris ducked a little after the Headmistress patted her head, not expecting the touch. She fiddled with a corner of her kilt as she watched Mr. Howl give Eridia a panicked look before he folded his hands behind his back. If he was nervous now, and didn't like the looks of them, how on earth was he going to put up with them for a whole summer? Mr. Howl wasn't making himself a friendly person to approach. Bothersome? A mistake? Inquisitive minds? Well. She'd show him her mind all right, if he dared to do anything insulting...
He asked them a question. Liatris gave herself a mental shake to bring her back to the present, and decided to be the first to answer. " I usually spend my summer working--small bookstore in Haye-on-Wye." Liatris answered, "Mr. Howl." she added afterwards. She didn't like to add in she worked to get away from her irritating grandmother.
Oh but it was a complete mistake. Common everyone, lets just fess up and admit that this is all a waste of time. That no one really wanted to be there. Well, maybe perhaps Liatris and...Nadia glanced around her friend to peer at the other students. Okay maybe some of them did, but from Morpheus Howl's expression she knew he didn't. Which suited her just fine. The sooner he wanted to be rid of them, the sooner they could end this escapade.
"I spend my time as a prisoner in Hogwarts." She was about to direct her attention back to Howl when she noticed a younger boy standing a ways off with a rather peculiar hat. A small smile touched her lips; she liked the hat. And no it wasn't a joke. No nice bookstore job for her. Well, she supposed she could get one if she really wanted to, but Hogwarts seemed, despite her words, the better bet. "I like the hat."

Oh.
That was a good question. McKey grinned sheepishly, twisting his body to not look directly at Morpheus Howl. McKey Hall's summers were questionable. It all depended on what he was working on next; world domination or a collection of potions?
Licking the corner of his lips, McKey was momentarily distracted by...a mouse hat. "Last summer, I set the neighbor's field on fire."
....Cricket. "Normally, I just read up on plants and their properties."
"Just Kit. Not Kathrynn. Kit," Knight was promptly correction the headmistress in regards of her name before being able to stop herself. Well, what could one do when you simply detested the name your progenitors had decided to give you before eloping away and dumping you with your irresponsible and happy-go-lucky big sister that didn't even know how to fry a bloody egg or make a sandwich?
... Breaaaathe.
Kathrynn decided to instead focus on the other kids - and instantly regretted her decision.
A delincuent and a pyromaniac. And some brat with a mouse hat.
She ignored the Mouse-Hat kid and instead fixed her gaze momentarily on both Nadia and McKey, thinking that perhaps she should not feel particularly special about being chosen. Since ... she'd be spending her entire summer with troubled adolescents unlike her accomplished self.
Fail.
"I usually spend my summer with ... my sister. " Doing nothing. Well, she had to clean the house and just do chores in general.
Like a maid. Another fail. "And also work part-time in the local muggle-diner." Yeah. Professional Busgirl here. "I'm sorry, but how exactly is that relevant to our summer experience with you, Mister Howl?" Kit's tone was cautious and walked the fine line that separated polite from rude and demanding.
Shaydrach did his best not to flinch. Even through the fluff, he could feel it. Nobody was allowed to- well some people were, but none of them were here. Stare.
"Depends on what my family decides, where summer goes," he finally said, eyes flickering to the girl who said she liked the hat. Obviously his hat. Everyone liked his hat. Mostly girls and younger students, for some odd reason. "Last summer we went to America..."
He trailed off, recalling fondly that he'd managed to destroy a snake pit and let a wild gorilla loose less than a year ago. Accidentally, of course.
They really should stop feeding those snakes with mice.
"Thank you, girl person," he added, tugging on one of the pom pom strings. "I like it too."
Well that was interesting. He was rather fond of books - though the snobbish side of him doubted the store she worked at sold any in particular he'd want to read - and a fellow book-lover was always a good one to have around. They tended to be rather emotionally stable. He wasn't, but she looked it. Oh, but that name...
"No mister. Just Howl. Thank you, Miss Greyweather."

"A convict!" Howl declared with amusement.

"...and a pyromanic! Headmistress, you never told me you had such interesting students here! I had no idea!"
Eridia's eyes narrowed as she took in his misplaced glee, "Neither did I."

"A family man," Howl commented. Then again, he did look the youngest of the bunch. A kid, still? The mouse hat certainly suggested it. "Which America would that be, North, South, or Central?"

A family girl who actually didn't like family? And she worked a job that she disliked. And now she was questioning him. Thank you, Merlin, but using Geminio on someone and making the clone a young girl is a violation of magic. You all-seeing turd.
"Again, just Howl. And it's relevant because before I give any of you the potential of ruining my summer, I'd like to know that I'm not ruining yours. Mutual ruination is hardly the way to get people to cooperate with each other, is it?"
He looked at all their faces, "Really, you don't have to come. If you'd rather spend your summer with books or burning things you're entitled. This isn't school and if you don't want to come I don't want you."

McKey totally tuned out after he spoke. See, he didn't really care about how everyone spent their summer. He just wanted to know what their summers had to do with him. All the same, he tried his best to appear interested.
He hoped the rocking back and forth on his heels would give the right extra effect; or not. Apparently, it only managed to turn him into a pyromaniac. Raising his brows, Hall stared at his Headmistress for a bit.
He...was going to let them all think that. Right? Right? It probably made him look cool! Like a Rebel.
Rawr. He supposed rebel girl had the hots for him now. Hu Hu Hu.
"Well, I wouldn't want you to think I don't want to, sir!" enthused the young man, hands in his pockets and...fell silent.
Oh Nadia, Nadia, Nadia. Just had to say 'prisoner', didn't she?
Liatris gave a sigh. The other students were... interesting. Very interesting indeed. The girl with the ponytail also worked in the muggle world, and she seemed a bit... closed off. Hm. Mouse-hat boy was cute, she had to admit, albeit a bit odd. The other boy... well. He mentioned something about setting fire to a feild. Strange. Liatris wasn't sure if they could learn to cooperate with each other in such a competitive environment; then again, Liatris and social skills were not the best of friends.
This Howl however continued to intrigue her; he really did appear to want nothing to do with them. He called her Greyweather--mistake or not paying attention? Further observation, Liatris surmised, was needed. But she did notice he faked it rather well-- at least he tried to show some willing to be interested.
So, when Howl announced that he actually didn't have any need for them or had no desire to teach them over the summer, it came as half a suprise to Liatris. Having good sense Liatris grabbed Nadia's sleeve to make sure she didn't book it out of the room. Frowning slightly Liatris decided to hold back the comment on the tip of her tounge-- for now.
And there was Liatris, grabbing her sleeve again. Really, don't touch the leather. But then it was Liatris, and she was an exception. Kid with the mouse hat might be too, might; he seemed fairly down to earth.
Glancing from the pom-poms to 'oh-fashion-defined', Nadia gave an uncaring shrug of her shoulders to Howl's words. So she had gotten in trouble and was being forced to stay at Hogwarts; generally how prisoners were defined, but convicts worked too she supposed. That and she didn't really have any say in the matter of whether she took up the offer to spend time at his castle for the summer; it was like a transfer from one cell block to the next and then back again. At the very least it would be a change of scenery. Her eyes flicked around again; and some interesting company.
"So," she began, tilting her head to smirk at the older boy who kept glancing at her, "How does it make sense that a becoming-botanist burns down a field of fine samples and study?" She gave him a mischevious smile. "A little counter-productive isn't it?"
