Default Criminal Minds : The Wizarding World

BMI

The Bureau of Magical Investigation (BMI) is a detective and law enforcement agency that serves both as an independent investigative organisation and a supportive body of criminal investigation and intelligence agency for the British Ministry of Magic, mostly interacting with the Department of Magical Law Enforcement within the Ministry.

The BMI is roughly organised in the following departments :

• Office of Director
• Intelligence Agency
• Criminal Investigation Department
• Office of Magical Law Enforcement and Ministry Security Cooperation
• Private Investigating Department
• Human Resources

This is the general profile of the organisation and each of the departments had its own divisions as i planned it before but i will not focus on all of them since our RP will take place in the Criminal Investigation Department which has the mission of investigating all kind of violent and serious crimes, mostly the ones involving Dark Arts.

_Plot and Characters_

Plot : Senior Agent Rita Vasquez and her team of experienced BMI agents are always up and willing to solve the most complicated cases that are specially granted for them by the BMI director himself. (Maybe not always but they are trying to do so, its their job ). So during the RP we will portray the Office lives of the BMI agents and try to solve some cases with them every so often.

Notes on the Plot :

* I will plan the cases and play for the supportive characters like suspects etc. When necessary. PM me if you would like to share your own ideas on cases or if you would like to help with the supportive characters.

* PM me if you would like to play for the Director of BMI or some hard to catch criminal (e.g a serial killer) as an antagonist.

* There might be cases or events related to or interacting with other SS characters (School or Ministry). [ I am open to this if admins and moderators are okay with the idea of course]

Characters : I am looking for agents to form Vasquez’s team which are made up (obviously ) with bios of following format :

Extras : (Things you want to add)
Notes on The Characters :

• Please no agents under the age of 23 since being an employee in BMI requires some specific experience and training.

• Romantic relationships between the BMI agents are against the regulations of the organisation. But this does not mean there won’t be any. Have your own risk

• You can play as a detective or a crime scene investigation officer or both. This is totally optional. But we will mostly focus on guesswork on the criminal’s acts instead of working in a laboratory because there might be flaws on the process for i might not be creative enough to plan it all with magical scientific details all the time. Of course i will mention it when there should be a forensic laboratory work needed so the characters with the respective professions can handle it. This is why i chose to get the concept of Criminal Minds.

• Every character has the freedom of investigating and producing guesses/ideas on the cases as they wish. I categorised the professions in order to help with character building and working field preferences. You are free to choose more than one but this cannot exceed the limit of 4 professions per character. It is also optional to choose from both categories.

The Professions to choose from

_Forensic Social/Magical Professions_

- Forensic Psychology and Wizarding Sociology
- Forensic Charms and Transfiguration
- Forensic Divination
- Interrogating

_Forensic Scientific/ Magical Professions_ (Mostly for CSI officers)

- Forensic Potions
- Forensic Herbology
- Forensic Study of Magical Creatures and Beings
- Forensic Magical Medicine
- Forensic Wandlore (This also can be related to the first category since a wand might be helpful with identifying and analysing personalities)

We will start once we have enough people to form a team of investigation. PM me for any questions

_Characters_

- Senior Agent : Rita Vasquez (Lara_The_Firelady)
- Agent : Melanie Silvar (individual)
- Agent : Cara Leonora Holden (Cerise)
- Agent : Spencer Reid (TrophyKill)
- Agent : Thor Caer (Sinclair)
- Agent : James Terry (Deniiz)
- Agent : Oliver de Winter (Ashwinder)
- Agent : Chione Ann Raewen (Tazenhani)
- Agent : Kale Bernard Plum (gustka48)

*Supporting Characters*

- Director of BMI : ?
- The Inspector/ Detective Coyle of Private Investigating Department

Case Information

Case #1 : Mystery of the Emerald Necklace

- Cooperating with Private Investigators (Coyle)
- 2 dead men found in differents hotels. Thomas Griffin; (found by Juliette Brown; the landlady of The Black Corner). Edward Thompson (found by Detective Coyle in The Gardenia Hotel, stole Lady Greengrass' necklace)
- Positions of both bodies are the same, as well as the blood filling the mouth.
- They are claimed to be poisoned but no substance could be declared by the Forensic Potions experts.

Extra Inner Plot Fun Challenge (Detectiving Bonus: Observation Skills Award) :

*Find who Agent Vasquez is referring to by 'Mr. Arrogant', why Vasquez cannot stand him and the relation between them by using your Detective's Observing Skills. Clues may be found among the supporting characters that would appear here and there in the posts.

Disclaimer: I do not own anything related to the HP universe and Criminal Minds TV series. At the case of latter i only took the concept of precedence of behaviour analysis when working on a case. Whereas the BMI is fully my own creation and i'm proud of it

Kale had listened to the case by word of mouth. Not something he was used, but it felt good none the less. There was alot of intereasting facts around the case. Yes the blood in the mouth could not have been from coughing or joking on it. Kale did agree to that. Kale was glad to have the case to for his mind's full attention. He reached out with his mind to try and find anything he could. When he saw the flash he needed to speak up. "The maid at the 'The Gardenia Hotel' has more to tell then what she has told." He muggle minds were so easy to break, the maid wasn't thinking about it exactly she just felt very very guilty and was thinking she should have told the police. "Was the maid questioned at all?" Kale couldn't believe he was talking this much. Maybe becuase the people he had wored with thus far were so unfond of the mind. 'Pity' Kale thought, the mind was such a powerful thing.

Even Agent Thor being the potions master that he is was stumped. Two dead bodies, dying apparently of the same cause...and a missing emerald necklace. A case indeed, this was probably going to take up a lot of time to figure out. If we figure it out at all. Lets hear the details.. He thought. Thor's posture went from stoic to intensely interrested, he sat upright his attention turned fully towards The Inspector and Agent Vasquez.

James still couldn't figure out why they had moved to this room and how some people became friends so quickly. He was just getting used to this place while some of his mates looked to have moved on to the getting to know each other more part. Their adaptability amazed him. He was about to join their conversation when Vasquez started talking on the case.

Oooo. This looked interesting. He listened as he wrote down the names--he'd remember the events perfectly but he failed at names, usually because he paid no attention to the people. Poisoned? This would suggest the killer was a woman, mainly because women liked romantic deaths. Though that blood might disgust her. He left that thought for a moment and checked the picture. Surely it was such an expensive necklace that would attract not only women but also men. He wrote down the new names and thought about any questions. There wasn't. Maybe he was the fool one that couldn't think of anything else. He only had one... and he wasn't sure if it had been mentioned in the briefing. He guessed not. He almost raised his hand when he noticed he wasn't in a class. Riiight.

"Are there any other relationships between... the two men besides way of dying?" Shoot, he'd already forgotten the names. He should study them this evening, right before going to bed. Sleeping on the studying always worked.

Oh, c'mon now. And he had thought they were better than this, the agents here. He suddenly felt he wasn't the fool here. Of course he could be wrong, but he had a good feeling that he was right. He peeked at Vasquez to see if it was OK to answer in place of her. Though everyone voiced their ideas on it... so his idea wouldn't matter, would it? Naaah. He decided to speak.

"Guys, guys..." he said as if trying to point out something very simple. "This is magic." Duh. Of course it could kill just like that. "Doesn't avada kedavra--" or whatever the incantation was, another thing he could never get right, "--has the same effect to kill in less than a moment? Why wouldn't a potion too?" As he talked, a theory started to form in his head. He glanced over at Vasquez again before going on. "Maybe it was a poison that could directly pass to the blood from the skin? It's the easiest way to infect a person and even Muggles can produce such poison." He had once watched such a film. The killer had poisoned 100$ banknotes and set them free in an airport to kill hundreds of people. *Shudder* "And about the blood... it is common knowledge that when the blood from the brain can't come out from the nose, it drips to the mouth. Same applies to nose injuries, why do you think you never lie down when your nose bleeds? Because it directly goes to your mouth." Seriously. They should know these basic details. Or of course he could be awfully wrong, but if the case was in the way they saw, surely the Senior Agents would have mentioned, no? Oh and, one last thing. "Of course the killer might have changed their positions to confuse us as well."

Spencer thought for a second, once the other man had finished speaking. "While the killing curse does kill quickly, it doesn’t leave a mark on the victim." He started, images flashing behind his eyes. "Look at the victims of the famed Lord Voldomort. All found spread-eagle style, eyes wide open, like a dog playing dead. If these two men were killed with the same curse, the blood would have to be staged, because there would have been no physical trauma to cause them the bleed internally like that." He rambled, looking over the notes he'd taken.

"And for the direct absorption from skin-to-blood, it'd take a lot of poison, and prolonged exposure to get a reaction like that." He looked at the picture of the necklace again. "And other then the initial grab of the necklace, I don't know weather or not the victim would have had enough contact with the poison to get the correct dose. My guess it not. What reason would they have to hold on to, or wear the necklace if their men." He once again looked over the picture, looking for any kind of pocket, or place their un-sub could put a mass amount of the toxin. But from the distance, and the angle of the photo, he saw nothing.

He looked back to Agent Vasquez, with a quizzical look in his eyes. "Agent Vasquez, by any chance was there an autopsy performed? I know it's not standard practice in magical communities, but if there was, I'd like to see the report."

Default Now this is what i call a long post. Should be satisfying after the waiting period:D
9 3/4 ticket holder / The SS Mentalist / Sherlock / The Master Of Everything / Josh + <3 = Ev

While Coyle seemed a little bit puzzled, he had only worked with one person after all not a huge team of agents, Vasquez was smiling around contently evry time the agents rose from his or her chair and asked many, many good questions for it meant she had good agents to work with this time. And it felt like this case was going to be well investigated if only she could kick...never mind. From the corner of her eyes, she spotted Coyle taking a deep breath to answer the questions so Rita went on with examining the papers in the Brown Folder. The both cases had come from his department after all so she was letting him to pour out everything he knew before, she with her team started to work on it properly. Yes, this meant private investigators did not work properly and Vasquez was always ready to argue about this if anyone should disagree.

It looked like Vasquez had found the perfect team for herself, Coyle thought, they liked to attack people with words like she always did. However, as he glanced at the group again, they seemed easier to handle for him than his partner in business. At first place he was beginning with the one who asked a lot of questions and he could not help but smile at the beautiful woman which was followed by Vasquez's wild glare at him. ''You made it sound like the murders and the theft have a certain relation to each other Agent...'' he glanced at the ceiling for a moment ''...Raewen. And what you have suggested at that point is quite rational but on the contrary; we, me and Agent Vasquez, believe that, in actual, they do not have a direct relation because poor Thomas Griffin has no relation to neither Lady Greengrass nor the necklace and the un-sub, as you say it, shows the signs of a serial killer instead of a murderer over property. And no, there was no food, drink or pieces of plants in the room but i remember a herbal smell once i broken into the hotel room. It was something fresh like peppermint.'' he stopped and looked at Vasquez since her next question was completely out of his profession and privilege.

''No, tecnically we are not so sure because the agents working at the magical forensic laboratory, as far as i could get from these papers, failed to determine what exactly the substance that is found in the victims' blood. But it looks like since it is not something naturally found in human blood they categorised the death as caused by a foreign substance which is in other words poisoning'' she glanced back at the detective. ''Take your part back Coyle''

No one could object when Vasquez told them to do anything? ''The positions, which is a good question again Agent Raewen, were no wonder adjusted by the un-sub. Head, hopefully because i would be sick to see the otherwise, at its proper place, arms streched open on both sides just like the legs were. My partner suggested that he looked like a star arms, legs and head being the 5 corners but the CSI agents laughed at him.''

''No surprise. If he once manages to stand serious for a moment maybe they would consider him as an adult''

The blond man cleared his throat ignoring Rita's comment on his partner. ''So it is not possible to deduce from his position if he suffered any internal pain or how he suffered being killed as a whole. The pool of blood being ante-mortem or post-mortem is still a matter of debate. But personally i believe it to be post-mortem for the reason you have just mentioned.'' He smiled at the woman again as she sat back and an intimidating muscular man rose to speak.

''Ah, you just pointed at a very good spot Agent De Winter'' Rita jumped at to answer the man's question though she knew there was no need to since it again regarded the laboratory which was under her privilege ''I was expecting to find out that it would be the blood of some magical creature but it turned out to be human blood, the men's own blood'' right after answering Oliver's question, she looked at Melanie who was the next agent to rise and ask questions and that question was Coyle's again. !!!. When was he going to just stop smiling sooo sweetly at the women inside the room especially at her agents???!! It looked like his low down partner affected him so much.

''As i said before no food or drink was found in the room and you are quite right. I have seen many other means of poisoning like venomous animals or by respiratory tract with poisonous gas. But as Rita...sorry...Agent Vasquez said before we have found no tangible evidence to make sure it was poisoning.'' he blinked at the woman a few times right after what she had said next and he quickly looked at Vasquez who seemed to be angry again for some reason, probably because he accidentally called her Rita. ''I think we should consider what Agent...'' another short ceiling gaze ''...Silvar has brought up''

''Yes, thank you Agent Silvar i think your theory will be one of the possibilities that we will work on.'' Rita said directly speaking to Melanie and ignoring Coyle. Because currently she was working hard not to kick his butt out the room. She took a deep breath and looked at Agent Reid to listen to what he had got. Oh, he was mentioning the kind tat Coyle would reply but not she was not going to let him speak this time just to annoy him. Plus she had already collected enough information to respond ''Well...as Coyle mentioned before Agent Reid, we are unable to infer information on how he died by the position because the victims had been moved and positioned so though it looks unlikely that they died choking, i don't want to eliminate it yet.'' and what he said next was another good idea. '' I think so... It should have been symbolic since the bodies were specially positioned and looked like a star'' she glanced at Coyle ''as your Sherlock suggested. Tell him that i believe in the star thing so he'd be happy. And we are considering this theory, as well.'' And who was peaking next? Ah, it was Agent Plum. It was, indeed, good to see him speaking but what he spoke, this time, was out of her job for it was Coyle who paid a visit to The Gardenia Hotel. Let him speak then, at least he was not going to be able to smile like that at this guy.

Now the guy who was speaking was a weird looking one, anyway, he was Vasquez’s agent so what he looked like was none of his business . ''Yes, i have questioned the maid though it took much of our time because she was deeply in shock with the reality that magic, and magic as a violent crime, has been performed in where she worked. She is a Muggle, after all and it turned out that she knows nothing of a body being in one of the rooms till we happened to mention it. So, i assume, i am the very first person to see the body at the position the un-sub left''

Both leaders of their recpective departments in BMI just kept listening as the agents discussed the matter Discussing and sharing ideas, facts and evidences were the most useful and crucial means to enlighten a case which was why private investigators were tend to fail if you asked Vasquez's idea. Okay, back to the agents the discussion they brought up sounded to be of use but there were still points to be clarified. ''We usually know when they use the unforgiveables and they generally do not send the case to us if it is a case of an unforgiveable because its too casual, nothing to take much of our time. The issue whether the men were poisoned or how the killer, the un-sub, murdered them is one of the mysteries we have to solve as it seemed to me, Agent Terry and Agent Reid, and yes it is no wonder that the victims were moved and it makes our job harder. Maybe the un-sub is trying to mislead us.''

''Quite possible if he or she is aware that BMI is following which i think would be possible if the un-sub has the necklace. It is well known in London that Lady Greengrass' necklace is lost and there are people looking for it.''

''Yes, and we are also not sure that the killer has the necklace, so there's a lot to investigate. The authopsy report...'' Rita opened up the folder and looked for the autopsy report inside it ''...should be here somewhere.'' ugh! where was it? She could swear that she had seen it in here yesterday but now there was no authosy report in it and...also the Auror's report was missing. ''Coyle..'' she said with a firm tone ''Where'r the authopsy report and Auror's report?''

''In the folder''

''Really? Do i look like an idiot? They are NOT in the folder!''

Chione listened quietly as she fiddled with the Lotus on her folder, taking notes with her free hand. Her brow was creased in a small frown as she debated over the points being brought up and the evidence brought forward, not noticing Agent Coyle's smiles towards those in the room or Agent Vasquez's apparent disgruntled state.

The same style of murder, but possibly having no connection to the necklace. Perhaps the offender had changed tatics, had a personal grudge, or an apprentice. Copycat maybe. Peppermint smell? Something in the room perhaps, an air freshener or perfume. Incense. Her frown increased as she sketched a peppermint leaf in the margin of her page, followed by a man arranged like a five pointed star. Maybe it wasn't so much that the offender was trying to evade them, so much that he was mocking them. Perhaps.

Blood in the mouth, but the man's blood. Herbal smell. Five pointed star. No tramua to the body. A cult practice? She traced a light circle around the sketch of the man; a pentagram, used for invoking and evoking depending on its orientation.

Looking up she was about to ask about anything else that had been in the room, when Agent Vasquez and Agent Coyle barked at each other about a missing autopsy report. Clamping her mouth shut she blinked between them. Either someone had misplaced them or someone really didn't want them brought forward.

Default Jeez, longest post ever! But interesting...

Spencer listened intently, taking in every word and storing it in his mind. At the mention of the star shaped body, his eyebrow quirked upwards. Da Vinci? The Vitruvian Man? Hmm. He'd read a muggle novel about a killing similar to this once. Maybe there was actually some kind of cult that would do this. Not to self: Look into it.

The peppermint could have been any number of things. From a woman's perfume, to the victims shampoo, to a cleaning product, or even a chocolate left on the pillow of the hotel room. But he'd still consider it part of the obvious ritual trend that was emerging.

When Vasquez began looking for the atuopsy reoprt for him, and discovered it wasn't there, he again raised an eyebrow. And the Auror's report? The two most improtant doccuments in a case file just happened to be missing. Now what was just too weird. He eyed agent Coyle for a second, thinking perhapse he tampered with the file, but brushed the thought off. He was an officer of the law, he wouldn't mess with his own case...

Unless....

Oliver didn't particularly want to admit that he was lost, but he was. He was a little disappointed that the mens' blood was their own, as it ruled out the more intricate methods of an artistic killer (that also made said killer easier to track down). But beyond that, he hadn't a clue. Theories were flying every which-way and there didn't seem to be a lot of material evidence for them to look at. And the folders were missing? This just wasn't his day.

Among other things, Oliver was a hands-on kind of guy. Theoretical talk was fantastic and all, but he preferred leaving the throwing around of ideas to others. When it came time for the legwork he'd be the first to volunteer.

Moving back to her spot of leaning on the wall, Melanie continued to mutter details towards the quill and notepad, her eyes fixed on whoever was speaking at the moment. There were a lot of good suggestions that she heard, but for some reason, none of them in her mind seemed to really click. Ah well, just another step in the process of figuring this out.

So this man knew everyone's name? Not that that was of any importance to her, she was just curious. Okay, back to the report. A smell of peppermint? Well peppermint could be used in a lot of things whether it be potions, or to cover a different smell up such as perfume or other such products. Heck, maybe the killer was a woman? Another thing that should be taken into consideration. So, it was the man's own blood, nothing unusually about that really. Wait what? They couldn't figure out what was in the guy's blood? So, this killer guy must be well educated in the art of potions and poisons to even fool the magical forensic laboratory. Or the people working in the forensic laboratory were just...completely missing the answer right in front of them.

Aaand, she had been spacing out until she heard her name being called. He knew her name? She didn't mind of course, though she wondered just what else he knew about her, and everyone in here. Did everyone here know everything about everyone...here? Talk about confusing... Whatever. Having the quill circle her own suggestion on the notepad, she flipped the page and took the quill in her hand, deciding to write normally instead of muttering things to it. Completely missing the different expressions that seemed to be playing off both Agent Coyle's and Agent Vasquez's faces, she stared at the floor as they continued to speak, specifically listening on the part of how no one knew what position they originally died in, and the fact that both were positioned as a star would. Perhaps, either to throw them off target? Or the killer was actually really stupid and that was his 'signature'.

No unforgiveables were used, a...muggle? maid, and...there was no autopsy or auror report. Perfect. Made it more challenging! But she was curious on the missing reports from the folder. Either someone misplaced them, or someone was covering something up for someone or themselves specifically. "Perhaps, they had dropped out of the folder on accident while walking, detective Coyle? Agent Vasquez?" Innocent unless proven guilty she'd always hear, but from what she listened to everyone else speak of so far and got a taste of what their minds were like, this guy was not going to get off that easy. An autopsy and aurors report. Big stuff there.

An idea struck Spencer suddenly. He sat up a little and jotted down a few notes, to see if it really made sence. When it did, he looked up at the lead agents. "Maybe we're not looking for any kind of potion." He started. "Muggles have chemicals that their bodies metabolize so quickly that after a few hours, theres none left in the blood stream. Maybe the un-sub knows a lot about this kind of thing, and used a muggle poison instead of a potion."

He continued to think back to the star-shaped bodies. Maybe there was some kind of cult ritual to this after all. But the missing reports were still bothering him. As were the unsettling looks between the lead agents. It was almost like they were subtly trying to kill each other with glairs... Or flirt somehow.

The blonde man was rather odd as well. He was the only other agent who'd come to brief them, yet they ALL had to change rooms? That still didn't make much sence. But oh well.

Okay, it was now official that these people were like super genious. And James seriously felt like he was really zoning out. While he could barely keep in mind what that cheerful and friendly woman had asked, the agents were answering her and he couldn't keep that much information in his mind. It just didn't work. He still tried his best though, and thought he managed to remember some of them. Taking notes wouldn't help either, because he wasn't fast enough to keep up with them.

As he didn't have any other question to ask, he just looked a little worried. Documents missing? That wasn't right, was it?

Kale was searching the minds of all those involved to try and find something that they may have overlooked or missed all together. The maid was a very important aspect in this case he was sure of it. She held the answers that they were looking for. An agent suggested a muggle poison rather than a potion. That was interesting and had great potential. "The muggle maid would know all about chemicals if she had to do the cleaning" Whether or not any one believed him about the maid being invloved he didn't care, if he had to crack the case by himself he would do just that. He tried very hard to concentrate on what the muggle woman was hiding, but she seemed rather gifted at thinking about several things at once and he was unable to pick out anything specific. "So what do all have going on here? Let's get the ideas out there and on the board to look at and see what we can rule out and link together" It was the most Kale had ever said in one sitting. He was aware that being with this group of people was changing who he was. He didn't like it, but really needed this job. His last boss told him this was his last chance to get along with a group. Other wise he'd be out of a job and broke.

Feeling Vasquez's pressure on himself Coyle immediately started to sweat and the tense look took over all his face. ''They should be in the folder. I don't know'' he said with a timid tone to defend himself before the killing glare of the woman. Just in time, Agent Silvar's words came to his aid and he immediately turned facing her with a slightly relieved expression. ''Yes, yes! Possibly!'' he exclaimed at the agent and took a few steps towards the door. ''Better i look for them before someone...''

''No!'' Rita Vasquez's firm voice was destined to made him halt. ''You are not going anywhere out from my sight.'' This warm-up case was slowly turning out to be a pain so she was not going to let any other flaw block her way. Right after shooting him another glare of 'If you move anywhere, i'll kill you', she faced Agent Reid and listened to him with great interest. Smart boy this Reid was. ''That's right. We have too much possibilities and even the Muggle stuff could be mixed in this case.'' She glanced at Agent Plum at that part who also, later on, mentioned Muggles interfering ''So, we have to consider that, too. If the Ministry officers have not mended the Muggle maid's memory, we can talk to her again which possibly was an information present in the Auror's Report.'' Another glare at Coyle...

...who seemed to be quite fed up with it ''Okay! That's enough, i am the head of Private Investigating department and you have no right to treat me like that just because you have the privilege to request the information i have. I might seem to be doing an unimportant job running after lost necklaces but i am an officer of BMI, too and do not deserve to be insulted like that before a huge team of agents.'' he stopped and glanced around the room with an offended expression pausing the gaze on Vasquez and the next moment the blond man left the meeting room before anyone could say anything slamming the door behind him.

Nodding slightly towards detective Coyle for a split moment before turning her attention back to her notebook to look over the information, she was suddenly broken out of that at Vasquez's tone of voice. Completely different from Coyle's nervous wreck one...

Staring at Agent Vasquez as the woman spoke, Melanie went over the information in her head instead, and since they were on the topic of muggles, she might as well go over all the possible poisons as well that wouldn't leave a trace which then led her to the different plants and such that could be used for such a thing. But again, she didn't get far in her thought process when another loud voice interrupted her, making her sigh in frustration. If there was one thing she hated, it was her thoughts being interrupted.

Ohh, Mr. Grumpy face. "I think detective Coyle needs a hug." Melanie said, staring sadly at the slammed door. He seemed so upset. Aww. And now reports and poisons were the last thing on her mind....

Spencer couldn't help but laugh at Melanie's comment. "I'm fairly certian a hug is the last thing he wants." He said to her, a quirky smile on his lips.

But though he was laughing, the sudden death glare from Vasquez, and the outburst from Coyle. There was clearly something going on between the pair. Maybe she was suspecting Coyle of hiding, or even destroying, the reports he'd requested to look at. That would make anyone upset, paranoid even. But still, the way he automatically burst out like that was a clear sign of guilt. As a profiler, he could pick up on a lot of things, just by the way someone spoke. And the defence in Coyle's voice suggested he was guilty, or at least was hiding something.
