Malachi Brown is trying to settle into a new life in London after spent his entire adult life indulging his wanderlust and working his way around the globe. It seems that he may finally have to grow up though, as his teenaged daughter Esme has appeared in his life. She was rather unceremoniously dumped on him by her mother. Malachi had no idea that she existed until they arrived in his rented flat.
Now Malachi has to get used to playing by the rules; as a father, as a friend, as a division head and now as a husband. Buying a flat of his own and sharing it with new wife Frida, whom he loves dearly, might just be the first step to truly admitting that he's an adult.

Malachi smiled easily when Frida said that she would do the same in his position. He actually wanted to hold her close and never let her go again... something else occured to him, but he didn't know if right now... maybe...
He was pulled out of his reverie by her next comment. Impressed by her spellwork, because his surely couldn't have lasted this long he asked "Really? That's... Brilliant." He gave her another sloppy smile. The image of Esme rolling her eyes made him sober and clear his throat as she sorted out his hair. 'I must have made it messy.' He thought.
He picked up his own wine glass and the bottle, putting them down on the small coffee table in front of the sofa and settled next to her, entwining the fingers of his right hand with those of her left one. He then covererd her hand with his own left one, stroking the backs of her fingers, wondering if he was brave enough...

Frida hadn't replied until after they had both settled down on the couch. "Mhm." She mentioned as she took another sip of wine, a rather large one. "I shrunk them down too after I used an empty ink vial as a vase. They're rather cute looking...it's like they belong in a doll house or something." Frida sipped her drink again as Malachi busied himself with holding her hand. "Okay, maybe they aren't that small, but still, I love them." She smiled a little and then leaned on his right side.
Her eyes had closed a little bit, she wasn't paying much attention to what Malachi was doing, since he was a man, and...well...they sometimes had weird habits. 'Like messing with his hair.' Frida thought as she took another sip, almost draining what was in her glass as she started to grin again at the thought. She sighed easily and leaned a little more of her weight on Malachi, resting her head on his shoulder. It really was quiet. They could probably hear a pin drop if the music was a tiny bit softer.
Frida's right hand; still holding her glass, reached up and took hold of the locket around her neck with two fingers; feeling the details along the edge.
And was that a clock she heard ticking? "It is very quiet. And so calm.", she whispered. However, in all honesty, Frida was thankful for that right now. Any additional hassle that wasn't involved with work would drive her mad. Frida finished the last tiny amount of her wine and sent the glass over to rest on the coffee table.

Malachi wasn't really listening as Frida talk about the flowers, not because he wasn't interested but because he was contemplating something rather serious. As she leaned back against him, he started to stroke just the back of on finger in particular: the one next to her little finger.
When Frida spoke softly, he kissed the top of her head. "You're my calm, my quiet." He carried on stroking her finger. "Y'know, this feels a little bare." He reached into his pocket and took out a small leather box that looked old but well cared for, as though the item it contained was very important. "Maybe you could wear this?" He opened the box, revealing a ring, which looked antique. He bit his upper lip with his lower teeth, holding his breath.

Frida smiled a little bit and replied, "I'm glad I can be." Truthfully, she wasn't always quiet...or calm. She tilted her head back and was able to kiss Malachi's chin.
Frida stopped as she was about to readjust herself on the couch, watching Malachi for a moment. "Well...um..." She didn't have much of a response there, especially since she'd never worn anything on that finger before. She could feel her heart start to pound in her chest.
'What's he-?' '!' Frida's eyes widened when they spotted what Malachi had taken out of his pocket. It was a good thing she had set that glass down when she had, because otherwise she would have just thrown it away from her. Her eyes started to water, Frida could barely see any more, so she dabbed them dry with her sleeves. "Ma-Mal..." Frida's words were caught in her throat. "A-are you asking me t-" She stopped and dried her eyes again. Darn stupid happy tears. "Of course I'll wear it." Frida forced out and threw her arms around Malachi's neck. There was enough energy behind that hug to throw them both over the arm-rest on the man's side. However, it wasn't likely going to end up that way.
She was shaking a little bit as she held onto Malachi.

Malachi watched her reaction intently. 'Tears... oh that can't be a good thing... can it?' When she started to ask him if he was proposing, he nodded emphatically, unable to speak. Her hug caught him off guard and rather than being able to hold on to her and stay on the couch, he held on to her and fell of it instead, gripping the ring box tightly. "Is that a yes? You'll marry me?" His voice shook with emotion and he babbled slightly. "I know I should have spoken to your father and done the whole romantic thing, flowers and moonlight and all that stuff but I've had that ring out of my vault for ages and I couldn't not ask you anymore." He swallowed, tears welling up in his own eyes. "It... It was my grandmother's. She sent it to me on my seventeenth birthday." He kissed Frida on the forehead, "She would have liked you, she liked people with spirit."
He looked at her and wiped away her tears, "Frida Grace Bok, will you be my wife?" He gave a shaky laugh because it was still coming out wrong. "Will you marry me?"

'Uh oh.' Those two silly words drifted to Frida's mind as she and Malachi fell to the ground. *Oof* Ah well. No bruises, no broken bones, or scrapes...no biggie.
She sniffled a couple times and started to laugh, "Sorry." Frida said and chuckled some more. "Didn't mean to throw you around like that." It was honest, but there was also a huge grin on her face, even as her eyes still swelled with tears. She dabbed her eyes dry again with her free hand, the one that wasn't still around Malachi's neck, "I don't need any of that stuff." Frida said in response to Malachi saying he should have done things the romantic way, or in other words, the 'right' way. What did that mean anyway? 'Right'? Phooey. Who needed fancy things to be happy? Or to make certain times in one's life more precious? Not Frida.
'His grandmother's.' That made Frida smile even more, and she looked towards the ring again. It did appear older, but it was in very good shape and had obviously been well cared for. "It's gorgeous, Mal." She swept her long hair away from her face and sniffed again.
Frida chuckled some more when she turned to Malachi again. It was sweet how he seemed all nervous, even tearing up a little bit. "Yes." She replied, biting her lower lip and could feel her own eyes watering up again, "I love you, of course I'll marry you." Frida gave him a kiss on the bridge of his nose, she couldn't help it.

Malachi thought suddenly of some scruffy oik asking Esme to marry him without having spoken to him first and how annoyed he might be. "Are you sure that your father won't mind though?" He made no attempt to get up, instead wraping his arm around her. 'I'd gladly stay here forever.'
"It's goblin made, platinum." Malachi knew he could never have afforded anything like the ring if he had needed to buy it. "But we can go buy a new one if you'd prefer." He made the offer without thinking, and then held his breath, hoping that she would say no. When she kissed him, and properly agreed, he let out a shaky breath, slipping the ring out of the box and onto her finger. "I love you." He stroked her hair for a moment before kissing her softly on the lips.

Frida nuzzled her face in Malachi's neck, "I'm sure." She sighed a little and tried to relax some more, but her nerves were all wired up now. "If you're so concerned why not ask him? Shall we go visit them this weekend; my mum and dad?" Frida knew all too well that her parent's wouldn't try and be too much of a pain with things. Her aunts maybe, but not her own parents.
She had just dabbed her face dry again when Malachi started speaking. 'Platinum.' Frida thought, 'The one thing that lasts longer than gold or silver. Never rusts.' "I'd never ask for a new one, Mal. You know I wouldn't." She said and let herself calm down some more when Malachi took a deep breath, though she nearly started to cry again when he slipped the ring on her finger. "I wouldn't have cared if it were made of copper wire as long as it was from you." Frida kissed back, and then suddenly had the urge to get up and go somewhere, anywhere, get things accomplished. "You've been thinking of asking me for a long time?" She asked, pushing some of the man's messy mop of a hair style out of his eyes. "Have you mentioned things to Esme?" She had this strange feeling that Malachi hadn't spoke with his daughter about certain matters. Though, with time if it was needed, things would be settled.
Canon Niffler || Neville's Yorkshire Pudding | | Teddy's Biographer || P + R = ♥
Malachi grinned widely as Frida nuzzled his neck, her hair tickling him a little. He held his breath in, knowing that he should want to tell her parents, to speak to her father, but he didn't want to, not really. "Of course, of course we'll go." He said, trying not to sigh. Parents were not his strong point.
He did let out a sigh of relief when Frida said she wouldn't want a new one and kissed her again when she said that a copper ring would have done, a tear leaking from his eye. "Esme? Errm, no I haven't."Yep, that's another person I should have spoken to first. That's great, a little list of them. Without a conscious thought he asked, "Will you move in with me?" Once the words were out and echoing around his brain, he had no idea of why he hadn't asked sooner. He looked at her hopefully, wondering just how traditional she was.

"Hmmm..." It was more of a sigh than anything else, and then Frida finally lifted herself off the floor, and Malachi for that matter, and sat on the floor directly behind the man, leaning over his head. "I'm so glad that you'll go. It'll be fun, don't you worry. I expect they'll want to invite some others over, but I'll make sure they don't...just for comforts' sake."
She leaned closer when Malachi made to kiss her again, letting him. "I'll write to her then...let her know about things." Frida pushed her fiance's hair out of his eyes, "She should know too." But then Malachi asked her something else, something that left Frida a little surprised. "Move in?" She repeated with a little glance around the living room. There wasn't a lot of furnishings, but there surely wasn't enough space for her to bring all her belongings...well...maybe HER things in general, especially since most of the furnishings where she lived now came with the home. Perhaps Frida would make another trip to get more if Malachi agreed. But she would wait...in order to be polite. "I-" Her words were lost for a moment, then Frida smiled and carefully wiped the tear that had formed from one of Malachi's eyes a moment before. "Sure." She found herself saying and pushed herself away carefully, standing up and walking to the fireplace, "Be back in just a moment." It was before Malachi could even respond. But why should he? He had offered.
Frida was swallowed by green flames, and disappeared for about five minutes.
----
The woman reappeared suddenly, nearly jumping out of the fireplace. 'Hate those things.' She thought to herself and walked next to Malachi; that enormous smile of hers was still on her face. Frida had a rather large pack over her shoulders...one that would be used for hiking or camping. "I brought someone...I couldn't bear to leave him alone. The rest of my animals are at the other house still." Not to mention, Bogey was the only one Frida could locate...since he spied her out on his own. Frida would be sure to check on the others every day though...that was until she managed to grab them all and bring them along too. "My owls should find me easily enough."
Frida set the bag on the floor gently and opened the largest flap. She reached inside and brought out a beautiful tabby-point siamese cat, who blinked his blue eyes and looked around...all the while reaching out with his front legs as though wanting to hug Frida around her neck. "This is Bogey." She kissed the cat on his head and allowed plenty of time for Malachi to see while she held her pet close.

Malachi looked up Frida, feeling unbelievably lucky. He entwined his fingers with hers and grinned. "For comfort's sake?" he asked, wondering quite what she could mean.
Malachi nodded when Frida said that she would write to Esme. It was probably easier for him to let her do that, perhaps they would start writing to each other, get to know each other a little. Or perhaps Esme would explode. Either way, Esme needed to know and Malachi felt that Frida would be better at delivering the news. He wasn't very good with those sorts of things, not really. He smiled again when she said that she would move in, before springing up and vanishing into the fire, leaving him on the floor, he was baffled. "After agreeing to marry me, she can't be scared of living with me, can she?" he muttered wryly, getting up and sitting on the sofa, taking a sip of wine. He looked around the room, realising that he should probably decorate or put up shelves or whatever it was that domesticated people did.
When the green flames jumped up and Frida stepped out, Malachi grinned. "I thought that you didn't like the Floo?" but when she produced the cat, he understood. "Hello Bogey." Malachi said with a grin. He decided not to tell Frida that muggle children sometimes called snot 'bogies'. He stood up and stroked the cat under the chin, fairly sure that he was just a cat and not part-kneazle. "Do you have much furniture?" he asked lightly, wondering how much redecoration he would need to do, or if they would need to move house.
♥My Very 1st Tag | ~Filofax:Forever~ | ~Evil Slythie~ | Chris' Caretaker♥
Frida nodded, "Yes. Wouldn't want you to come by when all my relatives are around. I figure things would be nicer if it's just the four of us." Some uncomfortable feeling tugged at her heartstrings. Her mind had started to think of her deceased brother, who, in all honesty, would have and should have made five people. The members of Frida's most inner-circle should all have been able to be there...'It's not fair'. But she pushed those unhappy thoughts away.
"I don't like the floo." Frida agreed as she stroked her precious cat's luxurious fur. "But it's a lot easier than flying all the way home, or apparating and having to walk all the way to the front door. I wanted it to be quick."
Bogey's startling blue eyes peered around the room and landed on Malachi. His ears and body flattened, so much so that he almost looked fused with Frida. Though he looked rather nervous, he wasn't making a sound.
When Malachi started to stroke him under the chin, Bogey's eyes narrowed a little, his ears still flat back, and he remained silent...however his tail slashed through the air and smacked Frida a couple times.
"Oh hush." Frida said quietly and pecked Bogey on his head. "I have a few pieces." She added and set Bogey on the floor gently, "I didn't bring anything with me right away though...I wanted to wait and see what was needed."
Bogey looked as though his paws were planted to the floor. He gazed back and forth between the two humans and then trotted off and slipped under the couch. His face was still visible from underneath.
She chuckled slightly, "He'll be okay." Frida mentioned and linked arms with Malachi, "If you want we can head back and pack up a few things to bring over. I have a bookshelf, dining set, sofas, china cabinet, a couple of little tables..." There was more possibly, but Frida's voice trailed off.
Canon Niffler || Neville's Yorkshire Pudding | | Teddy's Biographer || P + R = ♥
Malachi gave a soft 'oh' of understanding. He did sort of understand, his family had never been the sort to meet and greet others, and he was sure that he would meet her infamous Aunts later. A little voice whispered in his ear that her Aunts would be right to dismantle him, as they surely would.
"Very true, you wouldn't want upset him on the Knight Bus either."Uh oh, the cat doesn't like me, Malachi thought to himself, suspecting that this could be the acid test. "He's a proper Siamease then, territorial?" Malachi kissed Frida lightly on the cheek as the cat settled under the sofa. "Well, why don't we think about the practical stuff later and just celebrate tonight?" He wound his arms around her waist, drawing her into a hug, thinking that their little house was too small for all her things.
♥My Very 1st Tag | ~Filofax:Forever~ | ~Evil Slythie~ | Chris' Caretaker♥
"I've never actually been on the Knight Bus to tell you the truth." Frida said with a shrug, "Never had the need, and I wouldn't want that thing anywhere near the family property line."
She leaned into Malachi's little peck of a kiss and watched as Bogey stared at the two of them. Honestly, Frida felt a little guilty that Bogey wasn't the center of attention anymore. She hugged Malachi back and nuzzled her face into the man's neck again.
There was a soft thudding sound coming from under the couch as (apparently) Bogey had started to flick his tail back and forth again, allowing it to land heavily on the ground.
Frida rolled her eyes at the sounds her cat was making, "Sorry, he's just being moody...he doesn't like to share me with anyone else." 'Not even my own parents for crying out loud.' "Celebrate?" Frida repeated questioningly and moved back a little, tilting her head slightly. Ah. Erm. "Yeah, our engagement and your birthday that I just recently found out about." To think all of this started just because Frida came over to deliver a birthday present. 'Way to show me up, Malachi.'
*Grrow* Frida blushed a little as her stomach growled. "Erm...right. Maybe we should both have something to eat?" She gave her wrist a flick and summoned her wine glass into it, then took a sip as she turned away from Malachi briefly, not wanting to crack his nose with the glass stand.
Canon Niffler || Neville's Yorkshire Pudding | | Teddy's Biographer || P + R = ♥
Malachi smiled. "I'd rather go on muggle transport than have to take the Knight Bus. It's a bumpy ride." He took a deep breath, savouring the feeling of Frida in his arms, still not quite believing the way that the evening had unfolded. He felt as though he was about to wake up and find that he had imagined the whole thing, as though it was an elaborate day-dream.
Malachi grinned brightly. "Yes, both!" He was seized by the urge to shout from the rooftops that this beautiful young woman loved him. He twirled her around like a ballroom dancer and then hugged her again. "Oh, Bogey'll be fine. He'll get lots of practise in for when we have a baby that way."
'WOAH NELLY!'
Malachi gulped several times. 'Too fast, much too fast' At that moment, he heard Frida's stomach growl. Trying to continue as though he hadn't said anything at all, Malachi stuttered, "S-s-so, s-s-supper? Umm, eat out? Get a delivery? The italian place, Casareccia on Kilburn High Road is really good." He looked at her expectantly, hoping that she would help him out of the pit he was digging for himself.
♥My Very 1st Tag | ~Filofax:Forever~ | ~Evil Slythie~ | Chris' Caretaker♥
Frida had opened her mouth to respond to Mal's statement about muggle transportation, but she was suddenly spun around the room. She gasped slightly after being caught off guard and practically clung to Malachi since she was afraid she might be thrown across the room if she didn't.
Bogey's eyes widened more and he slinked farther underneath the couch...though his eyes were still visible.
He bolted out after a moment and found a safe place on the mantle above the fireplace. The cat simply watched the humans act like a couple of fools.
Frida laughed once the spinning stopped, secretly glad not to have been hurled like a javelin. But then- "What?" She looked at Malachi, a little, no, little wasn't the right word...totally surprised. Frida blinked her eyes a few times and fought back the urge to jab the man in his ribs. Hard. "Hmm..." She hummed and bit the inside of her cheek and raising an eyebrow, "Thinking a little far ahead are we?" Frida tried to stop herself, she really did, but she started to laugh. "I'm sure the cat'll be used to sharing before that happens."'After he attacks the neighbors and Mal a few times that is.' Maybe tonight Frida would let that happen to Malachi...accidentally-on-purpose. 'It'll be a chance for them to boooond.' A sort of evil smile tugged at the corners of her mouth for a brief moment.
After calming herself from that rather unexpected 'outburst' from Malachi, she shrugged and finished taking a drink of her wine, (the glass had apparently refilled itself before being summoned to her hand) "I'd rather not go anywhere." Her eyes landed on Bogey, who was now cleaning one of his front paws...all the while watching his girl and Malachi.

Malachi saw the cat streak across the room from the corner of his eye. 'There goes the wood work' he thought with a wry smile.
Mal thought that Frida took his moment of... insanity with a good spirit. He nodded when she said that she wanted to stay in. "Right I'll go get something from that Italian place." He kissed her on the cheek and almost ran out of the door, grabbing his jacket.
A while later he returned with a bag of steaming food. Letting himself in he called "Frida? I'm back." He called tentatively, heading for the kitchen. He started to unpack the food, warming the plates with a charm. He pulled a bottle of red wine out of the bag, and started to hunt for the corkscrew.
♥My Very 1st Tag | ~Filofax:Forever~ | ~Evil Slythie~ | Chris' Caretaker♥
"Erm...uh...okay." Malachi was gone before Frida could say anything else. She smiled a little bit and turned around to face Bogey, who had leapt down from the mantle and was weaving his way in-between Frida's feet purring loudly.
"Come 'ere, you." Frida said sweetly and picked the cat up, then sat down on the couch. She stroked his fur with her left hand and stared at the ring she now wore. 'It all happened so fast.' Then again, she and Malachi had known one another for quite a while. A year and a half was enough time.
------------------
Bogey had fallen asleep on Frida's lap by the time Malachi had entered the home again. Frida turned around in her seat and smiled, "Hey." She gently picked the cat up and set him down on the warm seat, then made her way into the kitchen. "Oh my gosh." Her eyes landed on what Mal had started to unpack, "Now I'm really hungry. Can I help with anything?"
Canon Niffler || Neville's Yorkshire Pudding | | Teddy's Biographer || P + R = ♥
Malachi smiled when Frida said she was hungry. "I umm, only realised that I hadn't asked you what you wanted til I was ordering, so I got the house special. Chestnut gnocchetti with creamy cheese sauce ", he said as he hunted for the black pepper and parmesan cheese. "I brought some red wine incase you wanted a glass, I know you prefer it and there's tirasmisu for afterwards."
He realised that he had sort of taken control of the situation, which some women didn't like but it was his ham fisted way of trying to make up for using the B word. He looked around the room. "I'm sorry there's not somewhere nicer to eat this. Maybe we could extend the house with a bit of magic? What do you think? It's your house now, as much as it is mine or Esme's." He reached across and took her hand, running his index finger over her ring.
♥My Very 1st Tag | ~Filofax:Forever~ | ~Evil Slythie~ | Chris' Caretaker♥
"Oh that's okay." Frida said with a smile and made sure that her clothes didn't have any cat hair on them. "I'm not too picky unless I'm actually eating-in somewhere." Then she was a complete nutcase.
Her stomach growled again as she smelled the food. "Sounds good to me. And that was very sweet of you." She mentioned and took the wine bottle, and with a flick of her wand *pop* the cork came out and clacked against the ceiling before landing on the countertop. "Tiramisu?" Frida repeated and her eyes brightened up. If it were up to her, she would eat nothing but that. Not that she was addicted or anything. "Brilliant."
She poured herself a glass and asked, "Would you like some as well? Or are you staying with what you had before?"'Oh gosh! I'm gonna start salivating soon...ew.' Drooling out of the corner of one's mouth was never very attractive. "Don't be silly." Frida said and gave Malachi a very kind smile, then came to stand next to him and pecked his cheek. "I wouldn't want to be anywhere else right now." And then he mentioned extending the house...which was a very intriguing thought. Smiling gently as Malachi held her hand she stated, "I think that's a grand idea actually." A bit more space never hurt, and Esme might really appreciate more privacy...if that was likely an outcome of the expansion. "Which way were you thinking of expanding?"
Canon Niffler || Neville's Yorkshire Pudding | | Teddy's Biographer || P + R = ♥
When Frida said that she was only picky when they ate in restaurants, Malachi managed to swallow a knowing laugh, instead saying "I hadn't noticed that," whilst busying himself with the plates. He had been under the impression that the waiter at the Passage To India restaurant in Leicester had been rather intimidated by her rather unique way of ordering, although he doubted that Frida had noticed. She was just particular about her food, that was all. Her reaction to the pudding didn't go unnoticed and he nodded by way of answer. He wasn't totally oblivious and he knew that as far as Frida was concerned, tiramisu was a food group by itself.
When she sent the cork shooting out of the bottle, he raised his arms over his head protectively and watched as it clattered around. "A glass of red would be lovely, I'll put a stopper in the other one later." No need to be wasteful after all. Not if he had a wedding to finance.
When she said that she wouldn't want to be anywhere else, he snaked his arm around her waist and drew her closer, kissing the top of her head. "You don't know how happy it makes me to hear you say that," he murmured, his voice slightly strained. "But where ever we are, you're home to me." He held her for a moment before saying, "I thought about both actually. Out and up. That way when there's three of us here, we won't feel like we're tripping over each other all the time." He pulled away finished dishing up the food, presenting it as attractively as he could. He pulled out a stool for Frida, smiling at her, brimful of happiness.
♥My Very 1st Tag | ~Filofax:Forever~ | ~Evil Slythie~ | Chris' Caretaker♥
At the 'I noticed that' comment from Malachi, Frida slapped him playfully on the arm. It wasn't her fault that she liked things a certain way, and felt that if she were paying for her food, that it should at least be made the way she liked it. "Cute, Mal." She added and summoned her fiance's glass into her hand, filling it half-way with wine, placed it on the counter for Malachi, then filled her own glass.
As far as the other bottle went, Frida summoned that into the room with a wave of her wand. "I'll take care of that for you." The woman searched a little bit for a stopper and found one after a moment, then sealed the one bottle of white wine and put it in the refrigerator.
She slid her feet across the floor when Malachi drew her closer, not wanting to roughly bump into him. Frida tilted her head up and gave Mal an 'Eskimo kiss', "You make me happy." She couldn't quite figure out what to say next, so Frida turned her head up again and kissed Mal more passionately than she had before.
Once Frida came to her senses she repeated, "Out and up." Then nodded her head, "I think that would be good." She smiled and took a seat when Malachi pulled it out for her, then she flicked her wand, making Mal's stool move out a little as well.
Frida picked up her fork and sipped her wine, then stabbed at a couple pieces of gnocchi...she couldn't help it, she was sooo hungry. "I suppose if there's a strong likelihood of there being four of us in the house by next year, then it would be a very good idea to maybe add another room or two as well." She ate a bit of food, enjoying the taste and glancing over at Mal with a raised brow, the corners of her mouth raised a tiny bit.

When Frida slapped his arm, Malachi flashed her a winning smile to show that yes, he was cute. Very much so. He took the opportunity to watch her move around the kitchen, so happy that she felt comfortable.
The passion in Frida's kiss surprised Malachi a little and he returned it gladly, pulling her closer still, only breaking off when he realised his skinny hip bones were probably causing her to be uncomfortable.
Mal was just tucking into his gnocchi when Frida mentioned four of them being in the house. "Four? Who's four?" he asked before his brain could catch up to his mouth. "F-four? You mean... four. As opposed to three." His hand was suspended between the plate and his mouth, a steaming piece of gnocchi sitting on the tines, waiting to be eaten. He blinked slowly. Their courtship had been very traditional and Malachi had respected that; Frida was far too special for him to mess things up. "Four... You want us to be... a family?" He said slowly, making sure he understood her.

"Har dee har har." Frida said, clearly amused by Malachi's expression and glanced out towards the living room. It was odd, Bogey hadn't slipped his way into the kitchen looking for Frida yet. 'Could be sulking'.
Once Mal had let go of her, a rather strange thought went through Frida's mind. 'Needs to put a little more meat on his bones.' It caused the woman to look the man over...unnoticed. It wasn't really that she was concerned, since a lot of men seemed to be on the thin side. It was more due to curiosity...she could remember how he looked when she had first met him. One could only describe Malachi's appearance back then as having 'wasted away'.
Frida was glad that he had filled out considerably since then, and in a healthy manner.
'Who's four?' The woman thought to herself once Malachi said it, swallowing her first forkful of food. She chuckled a little bit and sipped her wine while listening to what was being said. "Of course I do." Frida replied with a smile.
It wasn't like Malachi was opposed to the idea, not with that little (ginormous) slip he had before.
She ate another forkful and felt something rub against her legs. Frida looked down and saw Bogey, resting his front paws on her left leg and staring up at her. 'He can't have this.' Frida reminded herself mentally and ignored the feline, put her fork down, then reached over and placed her right hand on Malachi's left. "I'm not as wounded as I once was, Mal. I'm okay with things now."
Which meant, in a nutshell, that Frida wouldn't tear the man's head off when the topic of kids came up.

Good Merlin I'm lucky! Malachi thought as he looked at Frida, a silly grin plastered on his face as he ate his meal.
Best to be sure though, couldn't hurt to double check. "Just so that I've got it right, you, Frida Bok, want not only to live with me and my insane midget daughter but you also want to marry me and have a baby with me?" Malachi tried to sound nonchalant but he certainly didn't feel it. In fact, his palms were sweating. He finished his gnocchi and put down his fork. "I'm ready for tiramisu when you are." He smiled at her again.
And you living here. And a wedding. And babies, lots of babies.
