| | |  Wizarding World theme park Dragon Challenge roller coaster to no longer 'duel'
Due to construction problems and accidents, the Dragon Challenge dual roller coaster at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter will no longer ride simultaneously, as it was famously known for, but more as a chase of one coaster after another. The Orlando Sentinel confirmed from Universal Orlando Resort that the ride will now be labeled as a "high-speed chase between two coasters."  That decision follows an internal investigation into two summer accidents in which riders were apparently struck by loose objects while aboard the attraction. One was gruesome: A 52-year-old Puerto Rico man suffered a lacerated right eye and ultimately had to have the eyeball removed, according to his lawyer.
"We believe this is the best path forward for our guests and for the attraction," Universal spokesman Tom Schroder said of the decision to permanently alter Dragon Challenge.
Precisely what happened in the two incidents remains a mystery. Universal will not discuss the findings of its review, though the resort's statements in the aftermath of the two incidents — in which it reminded guests of its long-standing policy to secure all loose items before boarding the coasters — suggest that they may have been caused by items falling out of guests' hands or pockets as the coasters raced along their tracks.
It's a substantial change for an attraction specifically designed with the near-misses in mind. Dragon Challenge is even programmed to calculate the weight of the two coasters after they are loaded with riders to ensure optimal timing.
"Nothing is more important to us than the safety of our guests and our team members," Schroder said. "This attraction has been through extensive safety inspections and continues to live up to our high safety standards."

i rode back when the were simultaneous and it was cool but i also went on in early September when i went to WWOHP and it was so much cooler cause it's like you're in GOF it didn't bother me at all i thought it was still really fun, besides you can ride both sides and it's two very different rides haha

Awww....but the simultaneous thing's the best part of the ride! Especially if you're seated in front because it'll feel like you're gonna hit the other coaster. But I guess it is better to be safe than sorry. Good thing I got to ride it before this. WWOHP ROCKS!!!!  | |

awww i loved going on that ride! there wasn't any problems when i went on it. i went on it like four times because i had a early morning pass last year. it was a great ride. i am sad that you can't duel and it is unfortunate with all the problems the people had because of the ride. i guess a high speed chase could be fun XD

I rode the dueling dragons when they had it in the same area. Nothing but breakdowns and people getting hurt. Im shocked that they were still keeping this ride alive using a different name

I can understand the change if there were construction problems, but as far as objects flying the persons carrying the objects should be help somewhat accountable.
