Videos: Tom Felton explains the Robin Hood Tax proposal's significance
Earlier this year, Harry Potter actors Tom Felton and Bill Nighy shot short films to promote the Robin Hood Tax proposal in the UK (it can be watched here). Today, Tom spoke about the project with Sky News, and how he believes it could change the world.
Quote:
A lot of steam is building up in Europe. France has signed on. Germany has signed on. There’s some talk in the moment in Brussels. Yes, really some key cities are getting involved. The online campaign is fantastic. There are over 150,000 Facebook now and it’s all I ever see on Twitter every day. So it’s a really popular … everyone that I speak to … I haven’t spoken to one person who thinks this is a bad idea yet anywhere.
I’ve always felt a slight distance from the politician’s world to those of a young adult. I felt a lot of it sometimes is a bit tricky to digest and it’s not maybe written in the plainest English. So this is a great incentive for a lot of young … a lot of young people understand the Robin Hood Tax. It makes perfect sense to them and it seems to be a thing that should’ve been in place for years to come. It actively involves them in politics. Now I’m more interested in whether parties are going to take it on. And if one party does take it on moreso than another, I will be swayed for my vote.
UPDATE: Tom recorded a quick video earlier today to promote the Robin Hood Tax. It can be seen below.
If you want to discuss your views on the tax, keep it VERY civil and do not argue with one another. This is NOT a forum for political debate. Thank you.
