Ain't it cool news has run an article concerning the rumor that Jean-Pierre Jeunet is in talks to direct OotP. Quote:
"'Jeunet told us he had today to met Warner's officals to talk about' a little boy who learns magic and flies on a broom" But of course, he said he wasn't interested in it, and had no idea about his next movie.
"Jeunet was here last night,( I live in nantes, the greatest french city!) it was a premiere, and we asked him about his plans. he said he didn't have any ideas for a next movie, but he added that he had a
meeting today with american executives about a movie with, and that's what he said: "a little wizard with his broom". Given that his latest movie is a Warner movie, it is not hard to guess who he was talking about."
His credits include the BAFTA winning film, 'Amelie'. UPDATE: Variety are now also reporting that WB have approached Jean-Pierre about directing OotP: Quote:
The helmer also is mulling what film project to tackle next. Warners has been sounding him out about the next "Harry Potter" pic, Jeunet said, but it is hard to think clearly with "A Very Long Engagement" (his most recent film) still in his system.
"Making a film is like a love affair," said the helmer. "I'm not capable of moving straight on from one to the next."

He directed the fourth movie in the Alien series, Alien Resurrection. It was a decent movie with some great special effects. So now we have two rumored directors. Has John Lucas popped up yet? I love to see him or Steven Spilberg direct one of the last books in the series. That would rock.

I love Amelie, but I'm not sure someone of Jeunet's style will be good for the HP franchise. Also, Ain't It Cool News is a respectable site, but they print every rumor in Hollywood... That might be an interesting choice. I loved the movie Amélie, and though it's nothing like the Harry Potter series, it's never a bad idea to have someone with a different perspective take over for a bit, and show us what we love from a fresh angle that we hadn't seen before.
To anyone who suggests George Lucas - a big fat NO on my part. I'm sorry, but I just can't respect his latest work. I know that he'd be working with a story that wasn't of his creation, but I still can't trust him.
Somebody mentioned Gore Verbinski, director of Pirates of the Caribbean. I think that'd be a great idea. But I'd also like to see Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio work on the screenplay, because those two are just great when they work together. Although they do mostly comedies, they do have the ability to carry out the more serious stuff too.

Ditto. Well except for the part about Cuaron...personally I'd love to see him direct another HP movie...you just make it sound like he's bad...he's not. And it would have been cool, Amelie is one of my favorite movies...he would have brought this whole different vision to the movie...I wonder why he wouldn't I'd jump at the chance... I would like to see what Tim Burton would do with an HP movie. It's kinda of nice to have a new director for each movie. It lets you see how other people view HP. I was talking to my friend about possibilites for directors and I thought Tim Burton would be perfect for book 5. He would great for the darkness of that book. But, I would rather him stay away from HP. I would rather die than see George Lucas directing ANY movie, let alone HP. He is a horrid horrid horrid director. I don't even know why they let him near sets. No Steven Spielburg either. Don't like either. To Hollywoodish

I think it could be really good! Jean-Pierre Jeunet is an amazing director. he's directed two of my favourite films EVER!!! Amélie and Delicatessen. His style is incredibly visual.It's beautiful and if he can go from those two films to Alien resserection (not the best film ever, but well made) i think he could be really good for OOTP.
Tim Burton is an amazing director, but he i think the chances of WB getting him are slim to none. I think they should "leak" the ideas of those they have in mind so we can let them know whose pitch we like the best!!
George Lucas, Steven Speilberg, Chris Columbus and even Alfonso Quáron should not be let near a HP film EVER EVER again or even in the first place.

Steven wanted to cast hayley Joel osment as Harry and refused to do the films if he wasn't cast in the part. Needless to say, that does not sound to me like someone whose dedicated to the true spirit of the story.

I haven't heard of Jeunet, but I heard that "Amelie" is a wonderful film... I think it won an Oscar? :unsure:
Hmm... I'm not really picky with whoever gets to direct a HP film... Just as long as the magic of the story doesn't fade and the scenes are closely related to those in the book, 'tis fine with me...
