| | | Mike Newell: I'll bring my own touch to Harry Potter Summary:
Mike Newell: I'll bring my own touch to Harry Potter Article:
Thanks to Contact Music
British director MIKE NEWELL is determined to bring his own vision to the fourth HARRY POTTER film, but has vowed to keep the identity of the previous movies.
The FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL filmmaker is looking forward to adding his personal touch to the blockbusting franchise when he makes HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE, set for release in 2005.
He follows in the footsteps of American CHRIS COLUMBUS, who made the first two films, and Mexican ALFONSO CUARON, whose HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN is due out later this year (JUN04).
He says, "Each of the first three films were made by a foreigner with a very particular view of England.
"Chris Columbus saw it as a wonderful kind of NEVER-NEVER land. Alfonso Cuaron thinks of it as somewhere dark with a lot of stress, and rain, in it.
"But there is a progression there which I am going to follow." |

hey i liked alfonso, but you never know change could be good, just like it was when alfonso took over from chris. I mean the first two movies brought no justice to the books, but the third book looks pretty good and promising.

hmmm I'm not so sure about Newell directing the 4th movie.
Columbus did a pretty good job in my opinion, and if you've seen A Little Princess, then you'll be as excited as I am to see Alfonso's take on it, it's going to be awesome.
but Newell... I dunno, with the type of movies he normally directs I just don't see him capturing the right mood, I think he's going to gloss it over too much. to bad Alfonso didn't sign on to do the 4th one as well

Didn't Newell direct Mona Lisa Smile? If he did, HP 4 is going to be fabulous because Mona Lisa Smile was fabulous, also.
I have faith in Alfonso that he will stay true to the books.

i agreee with the lass three of u...i had alot of doubts wid the third movie because i was used the way chris did it and alfanso seemed to change everything...the uniforms and stuff...it'd be kinna weird it's like..dats weird a traditional skool changed their uniform...soo yea...and mike newall...it seems he's a bit prejudiced wen he sed...der finallly would be a british touch to it...it always seemed british to me...wid an american touch...but not soo much...juss the right amount..to let the whole world feel...united cause like it seems dat like the americans give some people connection to another culture...cause america is made up of soo many dif races and backgrounds...so everyone kinna coulfd relate to harry potter...whoops too much of a blog...sorry...i kinna rushed it soo..sorry if i like sed anything i didn't really mean...

Cools. What I love about these films is that you get to see the same world, but portrayed differently by different directors....

I'm feeling alot of hostility towards the U.S. and Chris Columbus
He did fine And he still has a lot of say in what goes into the movies because he is now a PRODUCER which means he has a lot of imput.
So to all the Brits out there quit being so anti-american

But this is no place to discuss things like this. People just don't like what Chris did and there allowed an opinion, we are not being anti-USA.

Ooookay, I thought at first the Mike Newell was gonna kill the HP stories and make them ruddy by the title of this article. Freaky.
Other than that I'm overjoyed that someone from Britain who's directing them. Maybe it'll do some more spice to the movies.

Sorry but my point is this. Chris is a producer his money is going into making these movies. (most expensive ever) He gets to override any director thats what a producer does JK Rowling gave him that power over the directors. If you dont like the first two movies because of him you need to realize that he is still apart of the movies and he has a huge say in what happens because it is his money that is paying for the movie to be made. Face the facts no matter who the director is it is still an American at the helm of the ship.

That's like saying Columbus screwed them up by using School Uniforms in the movie when J.K.Rowling intended for the kids to have normal street clothes under their robes.
Cuaron is just going back to the way JKR intended it to be. And he has her blessing.

Chris doesn't put a dime of his own money into these films. That's not what a producer is for.
Warner Bros is putting up the cash. Chris is just there to see to it that everything runs smoothly.
