It's silly to say that he screwed up the films by changing the costumes.

That's like saying Columbus screwed them up by using School Uniforms in the movie when J.K.Rowling intended for the kids to have normal street clothes under their robes.

Cuaron is just going back to the way JKR intended it to be. And he has her blessing.
