In the second part of his interview with Pottercast (The Leaky Cauldron's podcast), Matthew Lewis has discussed his character Neville Longbottom, with particular emphasis on the new hairdo that he has in ' Order of the Phoenix'. The curtains, as they're known in this country, were first seen in the scene that was performed by Dan, Rupert, Emma and Matthew for the Queen's 80th Birthday party in June.
The interview can be listened to by going here. Below is a summary of what Matt said.
- Matt says Neville's hair is how it is because of a new hairdresser, who chose to have it as it was in the Queen's Handbag sketch. Matt said he was horrified by the new haircut (said he missed the long locks), but eventually did get over it, then showed it to David Heyman and David Yates, who gave their approval.
- Matt says that he's not sure what's going to happen in the Department of Mysteries scenes, so he hasn't prepared himself for it yet.
- He talks about script revisions and how, as a fan, he does get annoyed if things are cut out, but realises that not everything can be kept in the final project. He says he gives input about his character, taking into consideration what was written in the book (talking to David Yates about scenes where he could add a thing or two), trying to add canon bits that were taken out of the screenplay to keep it more in-tune with what was written in the text.

I love Matt's hair the way it is, but if it's cool with Matt (I don't care about the director's, haha) it's cool with me. He does sound like a real fan (he always has been anyway) and I'm excited for the extended screen time he gets in the new film.

See. That is why I thing it is a great idea for the actors/actresses to have read the books, so they can help keep their character real as possible to the story. There have to be many checks and balences, and the fact that Matt knows Neville is excellent. I like him more and more each time I hear an interview!!!

Matthew with a short hairdo...OMG ! I loved it when it was long! All the HP boys look great with at least ear length hair-do's to me...oh well. If he can get over it so can I.
See...actors are fans too..I'm glad he gets annoyed but knowing that he tries his best to get over the fact that everything can't stay...helps me do the same.
