At a press conference in London today to reveal Pottermore.com, J.K. Rowling announced officially that she has completed her run on writing new books on Harry Potter or the wizarding world, and will not write any kind of sequel to the seven-book saga.  Quote:
“I do have closure with Harry,” Rowling told reporters in London at the launch of www.pottermore.com. “I have no plans to write another novel. I'm pretty sure I'm done on the novel front … But it was fun while it lasted.”
On the beginning of Pottermore: Quote:
“It is my view you can't hold back progress,” Rowling said of the electronic launch.
“Ebooks are here and here to stay. Later than a lot of people, I for the first time downloaded ebooks and it's miraculous for travel and for children in particular. I feel great about taking Harry into this new medium.”
"It's a great way to get back to the Harry Potter readership," she told reporters. "I had more than half of the new material already written."
'I wanted to give something back to the fans that have followed Harry so devotedly over the years, and to bring the stories to a new digital generation.
'I hope fans and those new to Harry will have as much fun helping to shape Pottermore as I have.
'To add to my input into the website, everyone will be able to join in by submitting their own comments, drawings and other content in a safe and friendly environment – Pottermore has been designed as a place to share the stories with your friends as you journey through the site.'
"We knew there was a big demand for ebooks, but...I wanted it to be something more than that," the author explained.
"I wanted to pull it back to the reading, to the literary and story experience...I've had a lot to do with virtually every aspect of it."

I'm not surprised either, because she had she had said this before. I hope she just meant she's done with Harry novels, not all. I'm looking forward to reading more by her.
Pottermore sounds fun. Now to find out how to get a chance to be in the lucky few who get early entrance...

I am happy with her decision on there being no more Potter books  I think with the final book, there was closure and it was the perfect ending to the perfect series. If she went and released anything more, the fans would be thrilled, but I know the media will be heckling her for being greedy and just putting out more books for the sake of money. Gotta love how the media works, no?  | |

i am glad about pottermore! i can't wait till october! but i am not shocked she isn't writing another book though. I knew she wouldn't since she ended the saga on a great note and felt the ending was appropriate <3, i hope she writes the encyclopedia though! every fan i think deserves that at least :]

I understand perfectly well why she doesn't want to write another one. I'm currently working on my second novel and after I write the third, I really can't see how the story can continue on. She gave the story such great closure, there's nothing more to be said. The characters are all completely developed, there's no secrets left, she's shared her complete imaginary world. You're an inspiration to me as a writer Jo Rowling!!! <3 | |

I am with that 100%. Harry Potter does not need a sequel. It was an excellent series with the best of endings. But I don't see why we couldn't have a prequel,maybe about James.

Still...I want that encyclopedia she talked about I actually think prequels focusing on the Marauders school years would have been interesting, ending with the night James and Lily were killed. But I can fully understand why she needs a heckuva break! And I agree 100% about the encyclopedia. She already has the information, it's not a
"new" book, it's almost like a handy dandy reference book. I sincerely hopes that she will put out that book one day. There are still so many people whose lives we don't know about after the war, like Dolohov, who I would LOVE to have seen AK'd, Lavender, Dean, Seamus, the rest of the Malfoy family, all the Weasleys, the remaining twachers, Ministry staff, what happened to the Dementors.....

I'm not actually sure how I feel about this. I definitely wouldn't want to see more books featuring Harry, but I'd love to read a prequel type novel, set during James and Lily's Hogwarts years. I think it would be a lot of fun to get to know Harry's parents from a first person perspective, rather than through Harry's eyes.
