As we reported this past summer, Warner Bros. has decided to pull Harry Potter DVDs from store shelves in 2007. This has been confirmed on davisdvd.com: Quote:
The first three films - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - will go on moratorium on January 5th, 2007. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire will become unavailable beginning on January 22nd. There is no word on when they will become available again, though rumors state that there may be Hi-definition special editions in the works. | |

Typical marketing plot to make more money. I say this because, although I have not seen them, The Lord of the Rings makes comebacks seems like every year and the latest was a limited edition of each of the 3 movies with several discs in them. Disney does this so you can buy the new and improved versions. I own all HP on DVD and the first 3 on VHS as well cause I didn't have a DVD at the time but still kinda sucks. But ebay is always a good source. If you go to walmart I think the DVD's run about $9.96 here in the US. GOF would be more expensive if you get the 2 disc set.

I have all of them so I am not bothered but I think this is kind of silly. I think that if they are going to do it, do it in a little while so people DO have the chance to get out there and get them, even though it was reported last summer. I think it is kind of a good idea but also REALLY bad!

First off, eve though I own all the movies on DVD, I think it's a really stupid idea to say "oh hey kids, we're pulling all four of the Harry Potter movies in just a few days!" I don't see the point in it except for money (*scoff*). Second: Although I think it's a bad idea, I guess it's "reasonable" to pull the first THREE movies because they came out long ago (or what feels like a long time ago). However it's ridiculous to take away the 4th movie because that came out only...10 months ago? That seems too soon to take away the GoF. Absolutely ridiculous.

You guys are right in stating that it is for money. But WB messed up the first time around. The Harry Potter DVDs are really "crappy" in terms of a good DVD. Warner Bros is also doing this for fans and not for money, they will be rereleasing it with more stuff and not just games! They will include commentaries and more documentaries. Believe me, there are studios who rerelease movies and is purely for money because the new edition is crappier than the first.
