| | GoF too 'commercial' for Franz Ferdinand?
An update on the official Franz Ferdinand website seems to suggest that the boys in the band are divided on the issue of contributing a song to the 'Goblet of Fire' film. Quote:
Huh? They're saying that the boys have split opinions over contributing a song to that Harry Potter movie- Oh that again! What do you guys think? Is Potter too commercial? Or is it cool to think of all those fledgling witches and wizards congregating in some back alley somewhere, exchanging bogey flavour Bertie Bott Beans for Franz Ferdinand cds?
Could happen...
Ireland On-line also has a short piece on the issue; Quote:
Scottish rockers Franz Ferdinand have fallen out with each other over a decision about contributing a song to the soundtrack of the next Harry Potter movie.
The Take Me Out quartet - Alex Kapranos, Nick McCarthy, Paul Thomson and Bob Hardy - are divided over whether donating a track to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire will diminish their credibility or not.
An insider says: "Opinion is split as some of the band think it is a great move while others think it is all too commercial."

Well, if they're thinking that way then its better if they dont take on the project. Obviously they dont really believe in HP if they're having doubts about it. Yeah, HP's commercial value is huge, but that doesnt mean that its quality has diminished, or that HP has nothing substantial to offer.
Again, first to post! |

I can understand. I mean, the band is rather alternative and anti-commercial. And HP is commercial. Still, I think it's a pity. I really like them and their music.

^They're not anti-commercial...I went to a bookstore last night and they had photoshoots for two different music magazines. Their music videos are pretty mainstream, and they tour, so I don't see what the big deal is about writing a song for an HP movie. It's not like they'll suddenly lose their underground-ness (which don't have anymore, anyway. coughHyprocritescough

Well, the movies gross millions upon millions of dollars. So donating a song to a hugely grossing movie couldn'thurt their pockets too much.

I am pretty sure that Franz Ferdinand is commercial group. So, it is
their main goal to make money. If someone there inside the group thinks in different way from the others, he ought leave.
And Potter is commercial, too.
There are little things that are not commercial.
And that`s a pity!

i can see their argument but as for being commercial, well if they appear on top of the pops then yeah i would say they are, its not like theyre really underground, you can walk into hmv and spot 100 copies of the album if you walk round for 2 mins

It would be great if they were involved but if they think they're too good for it then that's their problem

I like Franz Ferdinand, but I can't say I really care if they do a song for it or not. I'll be watching the film for the story and the actors, not for whatever bands are doing the music.
