Question (Q): Can you describe your character?
Evanna Lynch (EL): She is in 4^th year and new to Harry. Her father works in the Quibbler. She is forgetful and close to Harry. Everyone thinks that she is different, but she tries to impress nobody.
Q: Why did you want to play Luna?
EL: Because it is very unusual to find people like her. The majority of us possess a [the best way I can translate this would be “false face” or a “mask” or a “different face”] to others, but she does not, and she is conscious of it and is happy.
Q: JKR has said that you are the perfect Luna Lovegood. Do you have some type of contact with her?
EL: Yes, I have, I have questioned her about some of my theories about the books. She always listens to them but never tells me anything.
Q: You have asked her more about your character, for example like your Patronus or your birthday? Some actors like Robbie Coltrane and Alan Rickman know more about their characters. Can you tell us anything?
EL: No. [laughs]
Q: Evanna, this should be like a fairytale to you. How has this whole experience been?
EL: It has been incredible. Everything has turned out different from what I imagined, so unexpected, it is strange.
Q: How did your parents react to that girl of 14 years who was so determined, especially with this situation about wanting to go to London, to this casting?
EL: As always, they assented and smiled. [laughs] When my mother saw that something disappointed me, she told me that was it, I tried it, and went to London and obtained it.
Q: And how did you prepare for the casting, since it was something so important for you?
EL: I did not prepare specially. I read the books, that was my preparation… Well [Bueno], I tried to remember some things.
Q: Do you consider yourself to be a very amusing person?
EL: Yes, and and besides I am a great fanatic, I wanted to demonstrate it.
Q: What are your next goals now that we already know you obtained the role?
EL: I want to know Tim Burton, and also the fans. I want to direct, but that will be in many more years.
Q: Are you sure?
EL: Yes, a girl director. [laughs]
Q: Good, you could be the first one. You have not thought about continuing your career as an actress?
EL: Hmm… Yes, I could be, among other things.
Q: And how did your friends react when you told them you obtained the role?
EL: Well, they were happy for me, besides they know me and the thinks that I want. I haven’t changed, and they haven’t either, so there haven’t been problems. They are interested to know if what has happened to me is something interesting or if I am nervous. Also, if I know something more, because they think “she is in the movie, she should know something!”
Q: Do you visit Harry Potter fansites?
EL: Oh, yes! Mugglenet is my favorite! I feel that I owe them a lot. I like The Leaky Cauldron but, through Mugglenet, I was informed of the casting.
Q: …And the fans want to know if you chat or comment in the forums with another name.
EL: Yes, I used to but not anymore.
Q: Will you be in the 6^th Harry Potter movie?
EL: I hope so and to be until the end. Yes… or even if not… [laughs]
Q: Did you expect to see yourself with this wardrobe in the movies that is a bit different from that of the books? Did you work on it also?
EL: Yes, in all the wardrobe and in others. The people from wardrobe were friendly, everything was perfect, and the hair stayed the same as it was described in the books, they dyed it for me so that it stayed how it was to be.
Q: Where will you be on 21 July and with who?
EL: Oh yes! I will go with my cousin and my sister, we will make shirts and we will go crazy with everything, I think that we will go to London to wait for the book, where everyone will be, in the street, so it is more exciting.
Q: Then you will go to a book launch party in London?
EL: Yes, but I’m not sure about it, I still have to think about it, I already know that there will be many fans and they will probably recognize me and surround me all the time.
Q: We know that you like the ship Harry/Hermione, but what about for Luna?
EL: My ship is for Luna/Dumbledore, but I already know that he is dead and was a little older. So I don’t know what will happen with Luna…
Q: And what about those earrings that you wear? You made the same ones, like the ones in the movie?
EL: Oh, yes. But J.K. Rowling gave me these in person. [says while indicating hanging one: a hare and a silver moon].
Q: Ah, it is your Patronus!
EL: Yes, the hare!
Q: Why does it appear to be a horse in the trailer?
EL: But that is not mine. I don’t know whose the horse is, but mine is the hare, I saw it.
Q: What do your parents do? Creative works also?
EL: They are professors, but my mother, she could be it [creative]. She reads poetry.
Q: And like the fan that you are, you notice all the details of the decorating when you are in the studios, like the tapestry of the Blacks?
EL: Yes, I looked at it all!
Q: What do you think of Daniel?
EL: I believe that he is an amazing actor because I was sitting there thinking “Oh, God, what happens with Harry!” but then I realize that it is Harry all the time, not Daniel. So yes, it is impressing. He is also a good person.
Q: And to finish, if you attended Hogwarts, what House would you be in?
EL: Gryffindor, I believe that I am valiant and perfect for some situations although the situations would make me be brave.
