| | Empire reviews 'Goblet of Fire' DVD Empire has reviewed the ' Goblet of Fire' DVD to coincide with the release of the film in the UK. The DVD is awarded 3 stars out 5. The entire piece can be read here. Quote:
This is certainly not a movie for young children, however engaging its characters and comic touches. Teen angst and relationship problems are pretty boring if you’re six. But it’s not the burgeoning sexuality that’s landed the picture its 12A certificate, rather its genuinely darker vein of fantasy horror.

While he [Steve Kloves] was at it, it’s a pity he didn’t also delete tabloid hackette Rita Skeeter — however much one likes Miranda Richardson — since she obviously functions as author J. K. Rowling’s dig at celebrity-stalking gossips, adding nothing more than running-time the story doesn’t need.
Quote:
It looks as if several scenes were filmed at greater length, surviving in quick snippets that are frequently unnecessary.

It’s refreshing that Potter 4 aspires to be a paranoid thriller rather than yet another detective mystery. House points, too, for the movie's terrific effects and considerable charm, but, once again, you can’t help wishing the filmmakers had been bolder with the adaptation.

If they only gave it 3 out of 5 they must be out of their minds were have they been all this time did they even watch it all the way through? i would have given it a 5 times infinity it was amazing it is the only movie that has ever made me cry, literally balling, i bet they were all guys and just got jelous because when they saw Daniel in the tub they saw that he was better looking that they've ever been in theyr whole life. if there would have been a girl there they probably would of changed their mind and gave it what it deserves a 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The part with Moaning Myrtle and the bath was definately not something younger children should watch, but oh well. Personally I'd give the move a 4/5 and the DVD5. Love the collectors edition!

I'm not going to slate the guys at Empire because i'm a regular reader of the mag and i love 'em all! Having said that i am a fair minded person and feel it is only fair that i point out what i feel to be the flaws in their review. Namely that they only gave it 3 stars (when they gave HP1 4 stars - work out the logic in that if you can) and that there comment about Rita Skeeter is i think a bit unfounded since a) she's meant to be anoying, i'd like to meet the person who doesn't find her to be as shiver inducing as nails on a chalkboard, and b) she isn't just J.K's pop at the media (although Rowling probably did get a sense of satisfaction out of writing a character that typified everything she disliked about the press) but actually plays a key part in the book, creating the foundation upon which the Daily Prophet builds their propaganda war against Harry in book 5 and providing Harry with the means to tells his story via Rita's article in the Quibbler.
Take that you ever so witty and talented film critics you!

No commentary, a couple games, and the BTS stuff is mostly things that were aired on TV before the movie release. For such a huge franchise, the extras are rather minimal, and the extras are part of the attraction of DVDs.[/QUOTE]
