A dozen white feathered Pekin ducks could be found gracefully swimming or sunning themselves in this pond in this pond. With their orangish-yellow legs and feet and short yellow beak, this particular variety of feathered creatures is among the friendliest of its species you will ever come across.
The rocky ledge surrounding the pond allows you to take a seat. You may even dip your feet into the pristine water if you like, just beware of the ducks wanting to take a nip at your feet for the fun of it. Or maybe they’ve mistaken your toes for a tasty treat? Speaking of treats… have you brought along a snack for these magnificent creatures? While bread is not high in nutritional value for them, they will accept fresh and small pieces of it. Lettuce, oats, seeds and cooked rice will also suffice.
Play nicely with the ducks! While they are social, they will not take kindly to anyone being cheeky with them!
OOC: You are free to RP for the ducks though there should be no serious injuries!

Viano usually felt most at ease while on the Great Lake in one of those boats Professor Khanna kept in tip-top shape. There was a brief and silent debate about whether he wanted to laze about in a boat or say hi to the ducks. The ducks won. So, here was Vi, sitting on the end of the pond. His shoes were off and the bottom of his trousers were rolled up, safe and sound from the watery depth that was the home of these cute ducks.
That’s right. The sixth year found the feathered creatures cute.
Speaking of… the immediately began crowding him. Their eager quacking filled the air, and just maybe the sounds would have been annoying or too much for some, but Vi actually didn’t mind. “Let me guess,’’ he said, shoving strands of his long, dark hair out of his face. “You lot are hungry.” The quacking definitely rose an octave. Grinning, he fished out a small clear bag from a pocket. “Luckily, I brought some treats. Here, have at it, my friends!” A handful of crisp, lightly tan oats were thrown. Viano watched as the oats settled atop the water and the ducks scrambling for them subsequently. A light, bubbly feeling erupted in his chest; he knew he was doing some good and making the animals happy.

Hi hi! Have a Gabby! <3
Otter This World ♡ Catpurrccino ♡ Slotherin ♡ Pandamonium
Now, when it came to where Gabs usually gravitated to on grounds, nearly everyone should know that was the duck pond. There was just something about sitting at the edge of the water surrounded by ducks that was so calming. Being a fifth year now, calm was what she needed anytime she could get. This was a big year, one to actually truly prove herself. And that would be done once she aced all her OWLs at the end of the term. Thankfully, this was still months and months away. So no harm done in taking a walk down to the water to visit her friends.
Gabby had hardly made it halfway to the pond when the sound of very excited ducks could be easily heard quacking away. Normally she would simply say that they were so loud because they sensed she was coming to see them. Only.. as she got closer did she see someone was already sitting there feeding them. Well, that explained that. So much for them knowing over her presence beforehand.
As for that other person, it didn't take her long to recognize who they were. A grin spreading across her face as she quietly made her way closer. A finger held up to her lips as if to tell the ducks not to alert the person of her arrival. This was silly though as they likely didn't understand this. Either way, she plopped down on an empty patch of grass at Viano's side. "Hey you," Gabs flashed him the normal smile, gently bumping her shoulder against his in greeting. "Trying to steal my friends away, hm?" This was said with a much more teasing tone even if her face remained completely serious.

Viano did, in fact, know that Gabs favoured the Duck Pond. He was always well attuned to what his friends favoured, even if he may not always address it verbally. She would be right in thinking there was something peaceful about the place. Perhaps it was the water, perhaps it was the ducks. Perhaps it was both. Either way, Vi was internally grateful that Professor Khanna maintained the place so efficiently.
Now, the Gryffindor wouldn’t say that the inhabitants of the pond were… psychic, or anything of the sort. Did Gabs really believe that? Or did she think that they somehow sniffed out her scent as she approached? Vi for sure had no clue of her arrival, being so enarmoured with the feathery creatures. He continued throwing fistfuls of oats at them - it was a good thing that he had brought a more than a decent amount.
Until Gabs plonked herself down next to him, that was the moment he became aware of her hyper little presence. “Gabs.” Vi smirked then bumped her shoulder back. “Oh?” He arched an eyebrow in pretend skepticism. “What makes you think these are your ducks? They’re clearly mine. Look at how much they love me.”

Gabs could be rather closed mouthed about certain things but her love of ducks was one she didn't mind the world knowing of. Ducks were so adorable, the way the waddle about and quaked as if answering whatever it was she said to them. If left to her own devices, she could absolutely sit near the pond all day. If at anytime assistance was needed in caring for any of the ducks, she was the girl to ask.
Excuse him? Of course she believed that! Yes, and perhaps that too. These were certainly some of the smartest ducks she knew. The main reason being simply because they liked her. Ha! Why wasn't she surprised that he didn't notice her arrival? Vi was a fantastic Quidditch player but when it came to paying attention to things off the pitch, well, she thought her older friend could miss things right in front of his face.
The gentle returned bump to her own shoulder made her grin at Viano and lightly nudge him once more. Yes, she was in a good mood and her playfulness showed it. "..." Gabby tilted her head slightly. "I never actually said they were 'mine'. I said they were 'my friends'." Dark eyes sparkles with amusement as she laughed softly. "I'll let you think what you like but I'm pretty sure they only want the oats you're throwing for them." It was fun teasing Vi just the way she did her brother. Especially since Vi was never afraid to tease her right back.
Even with her gentle joking around, Gabs immediately took notice of which ducks had already come up on land to have a nice snack. Hungry little duckies, weren't they?

Wesley Blackwell had quickly learned that Hogwarts was never truly quiet.
The castle breathed with noise; distant laughter echoing through corridors, suits of armour clanking at odd hours, ghosts drifting through walls mid-conversation, and the constant buzz of students who already seemed to know exactly where they belonged.
Wesley didn’t.
Not yet.
So when the castle became too loud, too crowded, or too overwhelming, he found himself wandering farther and farther from it without really meaning to. Today had carried him all the way down to the duck pond, where the world finally seemed to slow down enough for him to think.
Or at least try to.
The cool autumn air nipped at his cheeks as he sat beneath one of the old trees near the water’s edge, one knee pulled up while a thick book rested forgotten across it. He’d originally brought it with every intention of reading, but the page had remained untouched for nearly twenty minutes now.
Instead, his eyes followed the ripples spreading across the pond as a pair of ducks drifted lazily through the darkening water.
Canada felt impossibly far away tonight.
Ilvermorny. Familiar faces. Familiar skies. Home.
Everything here still felt strange in a way Wesley couldn’t quite explain. Hogwarts was impressive. It was enormous, ancient, alive in ways he’d never expected, but stepping into a school where everyone else already had history together was like arriving halfway through a story everyone else understood.
He exhaled quietly through his nose, rubbing absentmindedly at the corner of the page with his thumb.
Maybe that was why he liked it out here.
The pond didn’t expect anything from him.
No introductions. No questions about why he transferred. No awkward conversations where people tried to place his accent. Just cold air, rustling trees, and enough silence for his thoughts to untangle themselves a little.
One of the ducks suddenly let out an aggressive quack near the shoreline, causing Wesley to blink before a short laugh escaped him unexpectedly.
“Yeah,” he muttered toward the bird. “You get it.”

Vi knew that Gabs found the ducks intriguing and cute. That’s why one of his next gifts to her - birthday or Christmas, who knew? - would be duck related. He just wasn’t sure exactly what that gift would be. Oh well. Plenty of time to figure that out! And ummm… what, Gabs? He was quite observant off the pitch too, thank you very much! Vi would just blame the ducks for him being distracted. Sorry, feathered friends!
In all honesty, Vi felt he and Gabs could be bumping shoulders all day and neither of them would wind up getting tired of the back and forth gesture. “My bad,’’ Vi said airily, and by way of apology. “They’re your friends, they’re my friends.” They were the friends of every occupant of Hogwarts Castle; maybe even the felines and other creatures that lived there.
“Oh yeah? Well, I don’t see them abandoning their meal to greet you.” So maybe they didn’t like Gabs as much as she thought? But Viano doubted that; the ducks were always friendly. “Want to feed them to?”

The absolute cutest! Oh? Well if it counted for anything, the Christmas holidays were first. Like her big brother, her birthday wasn't until the very end of June. Anything duck related would be greatly loved! Uh-huh, right, right, sure. Blame the poor darling little duckies that did nothing at all but look adorable.
Truly, that was some solid thinking. Not only was it fun for her but it was pretty much a habit now as a form of greeting from her to him. Gabby rolled her brown eyes at the tone of Vi’s voice. ”Sure you are,” she scoffed lightly in reply. This she knew but she liked to tease him whenever she could.
Gasp! Rude much, Viano? Gabs nose scrunched up and she stuck her tongue out at him childishly. ”Because they're hungry. They shouldn't have to stop enjoying their meal. I know how much they like me.” More often than not, ducks have sat very close to her. Some even enjoyed settling down on her lap from time to time. Nod nod. ”Sure.” Why would she turn that down?

The sound of footsteps reached the pond before CJ himself did. They were not even remotely subtle and the sort accompanied by the occasional loud CRUNCH of leaves, a stage muttered 'who put a ROOT there?!', and at one point the unmistakable noise of someone nearly eating absolute dirt before recovering with an equally eloquent 'whoa-ho-HO, still got it!'
"YOOOO! Wil' Wil' Wes!"
The words cracked across the quiet pond with the sheer emotional force of someone discovering civilization after months stranded at sea.
CJ appeared through the trees a second later looking wildly overjoyed, scarf half hanging off one shoulder, tie loosened like he hadn't even bothered to tie a knot that morning and hooted at his fellow displaced Pukwudgie immediately.
Without invitation or shame, he promptly dropped down onto the grass beside Wes with enough force to probably startle nearby wildlife... which meant several ducks went quaking and scuttering to the other side of the pond.
"Dude, this place is INSANE." He gestured vaguely back toward the castle behind him. "I got roasted by a painting this morning because apparently I 'walk with the confidence of someone who cannot read.'" CJ stared off for a second in genuine bafflement before looking back at Wes with both hands out helplessly. "What does that even MEAN? Like… I can read. Pretty good, too. Slow sometimes and hate doing it aloud in front of people. But STILL."
He dragged both hands through his hair before scrubbing them dramatically down his face with a groan.
"Maybe it’s a British thing."
That conclusion visibly made the most sense to him.
"The girls here keep saying weirdly threatening smart people stuff to me too." he continued, lowering his voice slightly like he was sharing survival intel. "Like I'll just be standing there minding my business and suddenly BAM.” He paused for a hot second. "One of them threw a goblet at my face, bro. Another called me stupid straight to my face, apparently."
He demonstrated the trajectory with both hands like a sports commentator breaking down game footage, complete with a slow-motion duck that almost sent him off balance. Another hot second pause followed while he straightened himself back up.
"Pretty sure that could have been flirting though."
He pointed vaguely toward the castle again, except the gesture kept drifting off target because he was too busy talking with his whole body.
"And the portrait lady? Ancient. Massive powdered wig. Very busy and important, or something." He spread both hands outward around his own head, miming the extravagant size of it. "Thing looked less like hair and more like a birdcage. So honestly I don't know if she hated me specifically or if British ladies are all just kinda… INTENSE by default."

Wesley’s head snapped up at the crashing through the trees just in time to hear, "YOOOO! Wil' Wil' Wes!" And just like that, something in his chest eased.
"CJ?" The grin came before he could stop it. Watching CJ nearly eat dirt while still talking at full speed made Wesley laugh under his breath as the other boy dropped down beside him, scattering ducks across the pond.
"Still got it, huh?" he snorted. For the first time all week, he actually felt lighter. As CJ launched into his chaotic rant about paintings, flirting, and British witches being terrifying, Wesley laughed again, shaking his head. "No, the paintings here are actually unhinged," he said. "One told me I looked like I had the attention span of an overstimulated kneazle." He leaned back slightly, watching CJ gesture wildly.
"Yeah, I think British witches are just built different."
A quieter pause followed before Wesley glanced out over the pond. "Not gonna lie, seeing you here helps," he admitted. "This year’s been… a lot." Then he looked back with a small grin. "But yeah. This is better."

Gabs need not worry, his secret plan was already well planted in his head. The chances of him forgetting that a duck themed gift would be happening was zero. Vi snorted in amusement as she rolled her eyes. “Careful,’’ he warmed in playful seriousness. “Another eyeroll and your eyes might get stuck staring upwards forever.” The corners of his lips twitched. Viano always enjoyed teasing Gabby. It was her own fault that she approached him and started babbling during her very first year at Hogwarts.
Okay, now THAT reaction sent the sixth year into laughter. Honestly, some things with Gabriella Rustokova would never change. He couldn’t help but think yet again how different she was from her brother. Sure, Feliks could be funny but Gabs added a different sort of flair to it. Both differences were good; Vi liked the siblings for their individuality. “Whatever makes you sleep at night.” Vi booped her nose with an index finger before handing over the bag. “These guys have such huge appetites. You’d think that being fed by Professor Khanna plus students, their tummies would be full. Want a piece of Chocolate Frog? I brought a treat for myself but I can share.”

Worry? Viano should know her waaaaaaay better than that by now. Gabs wasn't one to worry about much. Unlike her brother who worried a fair bit about things that she didn't think were important in the least bit. A brow was raised as she scuffed in response. ”Right, right. If that were true it would've happened ages ago.” She aimed a finger at him as if to poke him playfully. Oi! That was his own fault! Plus, if she hadn't done so that day he would've ended up meeting her at some point anyhow.
His laughter had her smiling. Vi was more than welcome for the joy that she had brought into his life. Joking. Nah, but really though, hanging out with Viano was always a good time. Even if they were only teasing one another. ”Milk and cookies before bed are always nice.” It soothed the soul. For her at least. The immediate response to having her nose booped was to playfully ‘attempt’ to bite at the offending finger. Obviously she completely missed on purpose. ”Next time I'm gonna bite you.” Gabs grinned. She had probably told him that a few times before and never had. A hand reached into the accepted bag of duck food, tossing some onto the grass in front of them. ”I think the more everyone feeds them, the hungrier they all get.” Duck could eat for ages and ages! ”No thanks, I'm good.” As much as she loved chocolate she was still full from eating in the great hall earlier.

A quieter pause followed before Wesley glanced out over the pond. "Not gonna lie, seeing you here helps," he admitted. "This year’s been… a lot." Then he looked back with a small grin. "But yeah. This is better."
CJ barked out a laugh at that, loud enough that several ducks honked their surprise and visibly reconsidered staying nearby.
"Okay, BUT, see? That a pretty GOOD burn though," he admitted through another snort, pointing at Wes like the portrait had earned points. "Overstimulated kneazle is brutal. But also… yeah, maybe they had a point. I think you should just own that description. I would."
He leaned back on his hands, shoulders lifting in a loose shrug.
"Easy for them to get all judgmental when they've been staring at the inside of the same castle walls for like eight hundred billion years or whatever." He gestured vaguely toward Hogwarts again. "Meanwhile we're out here ferreting around every corridor like confused raccoons because the stairs keep MOVING."
CJ let out a dramatic exhale through his nose and tipped his head back toward the tree, squinting as the sun hit his face just so.
"That's for sure," he muttered. "Judge and jury's still out on whether that's a good thing or not, but I kinda enjoy the challenge."
Minus the goblet to the face though. He would have much rather Marinara just go all soap opera dramatic and splash his face with the pumpkin juice. Still would have got the point across without boinking his nose and making it bleed.
"BUT, makes me feel like I might actually grow a little over here once I figure out the money system and stop losing things in translation."
The joking tapered off when he looked back over and really noticed the shift in Wes' expression. The homesick (maybe?) sort of heaviness sitting there around his shoulders.
"Hey." he said more quietly, scooting a hair closer to his friend. "There's actually a fair few transfers here, just like us. Doesn't really stop it from feeling weird sometimes." He studied Wes for another second before nudging his shoulder lightly with his own. "You wanna talk about it?"
Then, because he physically could not leave sincerity sitting undefended for too long
"Not super good at advice," he admitted with a small shrug and easy grin, "but I cleaned my ears this morning so they’re pretty primed for listening."

Of course they would have ended up meeting regardless.
Viano had no doubt that Gabs would have sought him out in some manner, whether she realised it or not. He couldn’t help it if she was drawn to him. And that she liked being a smartmouth around him, maybe a tad more than others. Yet again, he was drawn to the fact of how vibrantly different she and her brother were. “Uh huh, sure,’’ Vi remarked skeptically. “There’s a first time for everything, you know, Gabs.” He smirked, wondering if he was convincing her that maaaybe there was a chance of her eyes getting stuck.
Okay, the Gryffindor wouldn’t deny that, yes, his younger friend brought joy to his life - and in more ways than one too. He definitely would say the same about hanging out with Gabs: it was always a good time! “And now I know your secret. I would think that the sugar from the cookies kept you up all night…?” He eyed her curiously. Maybe he ought to gift her a couple dozen duck shaped cookies at some point in life. Seeing her sharp and pointy teeth, it didn’t scare him and he had made no attempt to pull away his hand. But he did laugh again, this time when she said that next time she wouldn’t miss. “Don’t tempt me to boop you again,’’ he replied flirtatiously.
As for the ducks?
“I think they’re like cats. Have you seen how much they eat as well? They’re eating machines!” If there was such a thing. “Your loss. I suppose I’ll have to share the Frog with Fel later then.” He side-eyed Gabs.

Oi! Conceited much? How did he not know that he would've seeked out her sheer awesomeness first? She was quite good at attracting attention when she wanted to. Usually with her loudness but that wasn't really important. Awe, how sweet of him. Viano was so very welcome that she was different in almost every way from her brother. ”Ifffffff by some chance it ever does happen, it'll be all your fault for jinxing me.” Gabs answered with slight cheekiness to her tone.
Ha! She knew it! Had he said that out loud she'd certainly be doing a happy dance and telling him she “told him so”. It was only fair though to admit that he brought happiness into her life as well with his friendship. ”Not really, no. Eventually the sugar rush wears off and I crash.” Hard. Which may or may not be a good thing. Omg! Now that would be a wicked gift! Blink. Blink. Gabriella held back her giggles at his words. ”Go for it.” She winked at Vi. Two could play this game.
Cats. That was one way to describe them. Nod nod. ”Trust me, I know how much they all can eat.” Cats and ducks. What?! Gasp! ”Hey! That's not fair.. using my brother to get to me like that.” She knew that wasn't at all what Vi was doing buuuuuut she liked annoying him as much as he liked bugging her right back. [B]”Speaking of Feli though.. do you know where he is?”[B] Yes, she had looked around for him a little bit earlier and hadn't found him. It was kinda surprising he wasn't with Vi.
