GroundsHave a case of cabin castle fever? Best to take a break from all the stone corridors and go hang out by the lake, or explore the expansive school grounds. Don't forgive to send your regards to Bartholomew Henry!
Standing squarely in the middle of an otherwise featureless lawn is an immense oak tree with sprawling, high-reaching branches, its foliage thick and rich with natural colour, depending on the time of year. The tree is taller than it has any right to be, and seems ideal for climbing. That is, indeed, what your benevolent groundskeeper had in mind when he grew it.
The very lowest branches jut out six feet or so above the ground, but if you can't reach or haul yourself onto these, there are little nooks and conveniently located knots in the trunk to get you started. Up in the higher branches, you'll find platforms and maybe a basic treehouse structure or two, but the real fun to be had is in traversing the tree itself.
Climbing tree though it is, this area also serves as a pleasant meeting place, the vast canopy of leaves providing plenty of shade in the summer months. A plank swing dangles from one of the lower branches, and a tyre swing from another.
It's pretty difficult to confuse this tree with the Whomping Willow. For starters, you're in an entirely different part of the grounds. Not to mention, the climbing tree is an oak, and (presumably) won't maim you for trying to climb it. All the same, you're expected to treat this place with respect. Don't act like a fool, especially when you're high up in the tree. If you do happen to fall, the slowing and softening charms in place around this area will kick in, and you will come to no great harm.
Do as you please here, as long as its within school rules. Relax. Have fun. Go wild (but maybe not too wild).

The climbing tree had easily become a spot that Daciana frequented. She had been doing so since last term, her first year, when she discovered it. It hadn't been in any of her mum's or Aunt Eloise's stories, so Daciana deduced that it was a more recent addition to the castle grounds. Not that her mum and her aunt were old!
But here she was, making sure her little sling bag was safely secured around her, before scaling the tree carefully, her little hands and feet familiar with the nooks and knots to support her weight. Daciana had debated between sitting low or going all the way up, but with winter nearing and the current wind, it was safer among the low lying branches. Doesn't mean she won't consider going up later, though. She still might - the views of the grounds from up high were pretty, though it could never beat the one from the castle balcony or the astronomy tower.
How she loved everything from high up. The view. The breeze. The wonder.
Maybe she could write her letter home from here, too. Daciana hadn't replied to her mum's latest letter. It's a good thing she came prepared for anything. All she could ever need was exactly where she was, up a tree with a charmed bag full of everything.

Quidditch practice had ended nearly half an hour ago. Which meant he should have already been back inside the castle and getting ready for his tutoring session. Instead, here he was taking what could generously be described as the scenic route.
The broom was technically tucked beneath one arm... for some of the time, at least. You see, he kept alternating between walking and hopping onto it for short bursts of flight whenever the mood struck him. Twenty feet through the air. Back to walking. Another lazy lift over a bush followed by a slow loop around absolutely nothing. Back to walking again.
Maybe he would just skip the stairs entirely today and just fly up to Gryffindor Tower...
CJ's stride stuttered as the enormous oak caught his attention from halfway across the field.
"Yo ― duuuuuuuuude."
His path altered immediately and wandered closer with his broom balanced across his shoulders behind his neck, both arms draped over it lazily as he craned his head upward through the canopy.
"Holy —"
The rest died in his throat when movement caught his eye. Movement belonging to a blonde girl, specifically.
He stopped beneath the branches and squinted upward at her for a moment before, without a second thought, CJ swung onto his broom and kicked off from the grass in a smooth rise adjacent to the branches until he hovered roughly level with her perch, one foot hooked casually over the broom handle while the other dangled freely beneath him.
"Hey there," he grinned, extending a hand toward her from where he hovered beside the branch. "I like your style."
Meaning the location.
"CJ Miller. Nice to meetcha."
Another blonde British (question mark?) girl. Would he go three for three or would he experience his first miracle at Hogwarts?

Daciana had shifted into a comfortable sitting position on the branch she'd chosen when she finally let her notebook and pen out so she could write. The most she'd written was 'Dear Mum and Tată, I am doing okay but' until her attention had been drawn towards...
...A dude. A drawn-out duuuuude. Verbally, and physically.
She watched him carefully, only for a moments, trying to recall if she knew him. From a class? No, definitely not. He wasn't a classmate - Daciana did not forget names or faces. Thus, she decided not to draw attention to herself and proceed with writing her letter home. Except now she wasn't sure what she wanted to continue the sentence with. But? What but? Now she'd have to improvise and think of the but-that-got-away.
And then there was said dude hovering beside her, which she hadn't expected. Most people would just get on with their day, gawk at the oak tree if they were a new student, and climb at their own pace. Other people were like this boy. That's okay. Company wasn't unwanted at the moment. "Hello." She said, finally taking him in. It is confirmed. He was not familiar to her, except for the fact that he was on one of the Quidditch teams, it would seem. What style? She was wearing what was quite literally some very basic clothing - a jumper, jeans, and a pair of sneakers. "Uhm. Thank you." The compliment wasn't necessary.
And 'style' and 'location' weren't synonyms. So.
But he seemed nice for now, so the blond just offered him a little smile. Full names in the first two minutes. Felt like something. "Daciana Romanos. Nice to meet you, too." The more she spoke, the more noticeable her mixed accent probably was - because while she was born and raised in England, she lived in a multilingual household and she had family in Eastern Europe. Still, Daciana considered him for another moment. "Are you new here?" He didn't look like a first year, but he'd been wow-ed by the climbing tree, which made him sound like a walking new kid alert. No judgment.
