| | | Quidditch Pitch If you follow a winding path from the Training Grounds, eventually you will arrive at the Quidditch pitch. The oval structure itself is a rather remarkable sight to see as it stands at five hundred feet long and a hundred and eighty feed wide. Because of the popularity of the sport, the pitch is used quite regularly. Here tryouts are held, in addition to scheduled team practices and a number of inter-House matches throughout the term. When the pitch isn't booked, it is available for general use from anyone who wants to casually fly around or play various broom games.
The maintenance on the pitch is of utmost importance. The three silver goalposts at each end of the pitch are regularly polished so they shine brightly in the sunlight, and the white markings outlining the exterior of the pitch as well as the middle are regularly painted. During the fall, spring, and summer months, a lawn mower has been charmed to cut the grass of the pitch mid-morning every three days just after the dew has dried. When it is winter, the mower is set aside and a magical snow blower is used to clear up as much of the pitch as possible. To keep the pitch in prime condition, all are asked to do their part as well by not littering or vandalizing it in any way; otherwise there will be consequences to face.
Anyone who wishes to use the Quidditch pitch is allowed do so, but it is expected that all rules regarding it are adhered to at all times and the curfew listed is followed. These rules can be found posted on the noticeboard at the entrance of the pitch. ooc: please do not play for the flying professor: PhoenixRising

| ❄ Chasing Waterfalls & Wonder ❄ | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers Quidditch Tryouts :: Term 72 Jasmine was amped up and ready to go for another quidditch season. She barely had any caffeine that morning but quite honestly, she didn't need it. Sure the house teams lost a couple solid players, but that just meant new talent was on the horizon and she hoped to seek it out. Which was most definitely reason for the high adrenaline levels that afternoon was wondering where she'd find the new talents.
Aerial hoops were arranged at scattered points throughout the pitch, Jasmine herself was seated side-saddle on her broom, hovering about a foot in the air, offering a welcome smile to everyone. "Welcome, welcome, so glad you could make it. Take a few moments to stretch if you haven't yet before mounting your brooms. There's a few tasks today, testing your flying skills, your ability to work together as a team but individual efforts too will also be noted. No attacking keys today." That comment was mostly for two slytherins, but for all. "Precision and control will be important to showcase, you'll see here I've arranged some aerial hoops thoughout the pitch, most are stationary" But there might have been a trick one that moved up and down to catch one off guard. "Demonstrate flying through the hoops in forward and if you'd like, you may attempt reverse flying." Not mandatory, but it could potentially be a tiebreaker decision for if one were to make the team or simply reserve. "Once you make it to the end of the aerial hoops, there's some quaffles to test your scoring abilities. If we have a keeper hopeful, take position at the goal hoops to defend against oncoming quaffle throws." She looked around for presence of Olivia Rodriguez*, Jakub Patterson*, Indigo Flower*, or Janice Walker* - her four keepers from last year. Surely at least one would be available for defending the hoops this term. {Side note: These were NPC names Term 71 roster that you're welcome to use in your RPing endeavors. Also preference is given to actual site characters over NPC characters, so if your character is interested and has reasonable skills, they can bump these slots} "Beater hopefuls, as you're flying through the aerial hoop obstacles, there will be some bludgers release at intervals. Show your defensive skills in diverting the bludgers away from yourself and teammates. There are bats available for use if you don't have your own. And if you don't have a bat, there will be ones charmed to float that you can grab as needed." "Seeker hopefuls, you're to fly through the aerial hoops as you search for the golden snitch. There will be at least two buzzing around." "If there are no further questions, you may begin."
ooc: If you made it this far, thank you so much for reading. This is the official start for tryouts, which will be open for 10 days. If you haven't done so yet, check out the guidelines for full eligibility requirements. Any questions may be directed to myself or the Wizarding World RP Admins (sweetpinkpixie, Charely Potter). Also, as with previous terms, if your character isn't trying out, feel free to use the stands to cheer on your character's friends who are trying out

Diego was nervous. He knew that he had a lot to live up to in switching sports teams this term. He clutched the newest Andromeda broom his parents bought for him, tightly, as if they were supporting him right here. He looked around, remembering some of the coolest players were no longer around. A couple had even made it to play professionally. Maybe someday he would too... if all went well.
Diego gulped before smiling at those nearest by. Eventually, Professor Springer arrived, quickly ready to begin. He listened attentively to the instructions and began wondering if perhaps he'd have competition for Keeper. Though that was his top choice, he wouldn't mind switching it up to try out Seeker or even be a Beater.
Once they were told to begin, Diego mounted his Andromeda broom and flew up to where Janice was stationed. She gave him a questioning look before she moved away, granting him to spot. He whispered her an apology, since she likely wanted to keep her position. But she told him not to worry about it.
He was ready to defend.

| Levi Singh-Phora :: Hufflepuff Keeper hopeful ~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ Claimed by Bits ❤️ ~ Queen of Typos ❄ Magical Mosh Pit ❄ Levi was nervous but only because Radhika was up there in the Stands. Why did he always have to care so much about what his older sister thought of him? He hadn’t told anyone prior to the summer but she was the reason he hadn’t even made an attempt to try out last term. But over the holidays, he had spoken to his dads, and they had encouraged him and helped clear his doubts, along with Dee. So, here he was, clutching his broomstick and trying not to be intimidated by Radhi. He instead smiled broadly at professor Springer before doing as she instructed: getting a few stretches in. Arms, legs… yup, basic stretches were quite comforting and boosted one’s confidence. At least for him.
The Hufflepuff was hoping to give Keeping a shot, and since Diego had already taken up a spot at the hoops, Levi opted to have a moment with the aerial hoops. He’d just wait until the Gryffindor was with his tryout. So, off he zoomed, taking great joy in enjoying, as he usually did, the wind whipping his face and making his hair all messy.
The hoops were suddenly right there in front of him. Levi easily shot through the first three as they were stationary. The fourth though, was a moving one. It moved upwards, so he headed in that trajectory but then the hoop slid slightly downwards. The second year was unable to completely manoeuvre to correct his path and… well, the result was Levi’s head and left shin colliding with the hoop while passing through it. Owie. |

| Tiffany Rose, Slytherin Beater hopeful ❄ Chasing Waterfalls & Wonder ❄ | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers Was Tiffany completely indecisive right up to the moment that she decided to waltz onto the pitch? Absolutely. She could hear Calliope's words replaying in her head. Wind doesn't wait for you to decide. Bludgers don't either. Be sure. And the other thing that was simultaneously playing in her head was that a certain Forsfelle was only trying to impress Iris. It stung a little, but also was a driving force to her being here today. He might not have been trying to impress her, but she wanted to impress him. Or smack that smug look off his face. Perhaps give him another bump. Yes sure he was on her team, but that didn't mean she couldn't make it look like an accident.
She nodded at Professor Springer in greeting, followed by nods to the pair of younger boys - Diego and Levi, whom she hadn't recalled seeing play last term? Which meant she wasn't the only new one trying out. She was going to take the few moments to stretch though before getting started. Give a moment too for the bludgers to be released before she'd see if her practicing paid off. ooc: Will post Jasmine responding tomorrow morning. As mentioned in the announcement, but adding some clarity, you'll have until the close of day on the 20th to partake in quidditch tryouts. See the initial intro post for guidelines information.

The best part of any new term: quidditch tryouts.
Calliope had been waiting for this since the last whistle of the previous season for this moment. She'd also spent the better part of the feast and the days leading up to today helicoptering one particular bémol with a forehead injury to make sure he did not sabotage it. JT's bump wasn't just his problem, obviously - it was a potential liability to her season.
Satisfied that he was unlikely to concuss himself again before mounting a broom, Calliope's attention snapped back to where it belonged: the pitch, the brooms, the quaffle, the hoops, the air. Which was why she noticed the new faces at tryouts immediately - Tiffany's in particular. The older girl's presence registered more as the wrong kind of noise, like someone purposefully clapping off-beat to a drum solo. She could admit that she barely knew the girl - the feast probably being the only actually exchange of words they had had - but there was just something in the way Tiffany hovered at the edge of the pitch, in the way her eyes kept flicking elsewhere, that set Calliope's teeth on edge. Something that made Calliope thing she was not here for the game itself and Calliope hated that.
As Tiffany stepped forward to stretch, Calliope sauntered past at juuuuuuuuuuust the wrong angle with her shoulder turned juuuuuuust slightly... juuuuuuust enough for some timing impeccable. Their shoulders clipped, juuuuuust enough to jotle her a little, and Calliope barely looked back while offering a chaste "WhooOOops."
She rolled her shoulder once, loosening it for flight, obviously, and tugged at one wrist and then the other as she always did before she was about to do something that required copious amounts of dexterity. She then mounted her broom in one smooth motion and kicked off the ground, rising easily into the air with a small satisfied hum that was almost audible if you were close enough to her. She angled toward the aerial hoops and slipped through the first hoop dead center, then the next, then the next, her broom responding like it was an extension of herself. When she hit a moving hoop, she adjusted without breaking rhythm, banking just enough to glide through with barely a half inch to spare.
She soon found herself tailing the second year, which meant she had he unfortunate pleasure of watching him collige with one of the hoops. "Make yourself smaller" she called out. "Really squish yourself against the handle. More aerodynamic" A beat. "And maybe don't lead with your head next time. The hoop - or a bludger - will always win that argument." Enemy team or not, Synergy camp habits died hard - sportsmanship drilled in by repetition and one very firm lecture about learning moments and being an actual teammate from one Zinnia Shacklebolt Skeres. Selective application of said advice very much in progress. "But..." she added as she flew backwards a couple breaths to come up alongside the Hufflepuff. "...also good job staying on your broom."
Good Samaritan deed done for the moment, Calliope took off at full speed once again to retrieve a quaffle and see what this Gryffindor keeper hopeful had to offer.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Marina García Massey Gryffindor Second Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Adrian García Massey Slytherin Fifth Year x5
| Marina Garcia Massey | Keeper, Gryffindor *sappysapper* MAJNOO, YO! Marina lingered at the edge of the pitch longer than she probably should have.
Not out of nerves exactly. More… irritation. She watched the brooms lift, listened to Professor Jasmine’s instructions, tracked who moved with confidence and who moved like they were trying to convince themselves they belonged in the air - a scene similar to her own last term. Reserve Keeper.
The memory sat unpleasantly sharp in her chest. Showing up to every practice. Standing ready. Then folding her hands and watching matches go by while someone else guarded the hoops. Cheering when she meant it, pretending it didn’t ache when she didn’t. Quite frankly? It had sucked.
Yet... she was here again.
Her dad would say she didn't have anythinng to prove, yet she was here again.
When the signal came, Marina mounted her broom with a sharp kick-off - nerves clearly catching up to her.
The hoops came fast. SOmehow, she took them faster.
Not recklessly, but with that particular Marina-brand urgency, cutting angles a little too close. The moving hoop dipped and she overcorrected, then over-overcorrected, then snapped neatly through it with a little dance mid-air. By the time she reached the end of the course, her hair had come loose and her breathing was just a bit uneven.
Slowing down, her eyes flicked toward the goal hoops where Diego and Janice had already stationed.
Oh.
Of course.
But nope, she was so not just sitting on the sidelines thhis time, “Hi,” she called, waving once,“I was reserve Keeper last term and I’m trying very hard not to emotionally spiral about it, so could I please take a turn in goal?”
Or were they REALLY fighting for it?

| Zephyr Amstern, Ravenclaw Seeker Baguette | there is no D in my name | TRAITORclaw | Queenie of Narnia Tryouts time once again!
Eager as always, Zephyr had arrived early, and though he had already stretched his muscles and jogged down to the pitch, he did a couple quick arm and leg stretches when Professor Springer suggested. Didn't hurt to do a few more! Then after a few shoulder rolls, he mounted his broom and kicked into the air.
He immediately scanned his surroundings as he rose, primarily for any glimpse of the snitch. But as there was no sign of it just yet, he was also assessing the others who had joined the tryout so far. There were quite a few new faces participating with Diego, Levi, and Tiffany, which was exciting. Even if none of them were in his house, Zephyr was eager to see what talents they might have in store. He was much more familiar with the confident flying of his fellow fourth year, Calliope, and maybe less so with Marina, but that made him all the more curious to find out what the second year might be capable of too.
These thoughts floated through his mind only for a few moments, his focus honing in on the aerial hoops. He aimed for them soon after Marina had completed them and zoomed through the first few easily enough. Stationary hoops were no problem.
The movement of the last hoop led him to point his broom downward, and he leaned low over the handle as he picked up speed, wind whistling in his ears. Then he was through the hoop - he pulled up sharply and banked left to avoid the ground and move into another open part of the pitch.
Now, with that first obstacle complete...where was that sneaky little snitch?

| JT Forsfelle, Slytherin Chaser Hopeful Swedishfish Girl! ❄ Page-Turning Seamstress ❄ Jess's Soul Sister! Sweetest Swede! Quidditch tryouts were here and JT was there too stretching his arms and legs as suggested by Professor Springer. He made sure to not knock his head on his broom or something similiar since the feast incident had been enough. The way Calliope had been on his case day and night to make sure JT's bump dissappeared and that he didn't do something else stupid was like having a second kidsister.
JT shot up in the air on his broom on signal hovering in front of Professor Springer as she gave them tryout instructions. He also noted that Tiffany was there trying out for beater, good for her! And that Olivia Rodriguez was there to defend the green hoops just like last year. JT of course also saw Zephyr, Marina, Levi and Diego up in the air, but his main focus was on the quaffles, hoops, bludgers, Calliope and Tiffany and Olivia's actions as well as his own.
JT felt the air in his face and the joyus feeling in his entire body as he swooped towards the aerial hoops on his broom tailing Calliope. He flew forward through the first two hoops easily and then on to the next. When he came to a moving target JT flew in reverse through the hoop barely missing the edges with a few inches to spare. Catching a quaffle in mid air JT flew his broom effortlessly toward the hoop where Olivia was hovering in front to defend it, stopping by Tiffany to give a thumbs up first. "Go Tiffany! Smack the bludgers with the bat. I'm sure you'll hit them." then JT proceeded to glide towards Olivia to attempt to score his first goal of the tryouts.

| Levi Singh-Phora :: Hufflepuff Keeper hopeful ~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ Claimed by Bits ❤️ ~ Queen of Typos ❄ Magical Mosh Pit ❄ And just like that, there was suddenly a lot more activity on the pitch. Levi supposed he should have expected this, given what he had witnessed at last term’s tryouts but actually being in the mix of the flurry of whipping robes, hoops, the shrill sounds of breeze whistling in his ears and everything else… it was an entirely different experience. The good type of experience. Even better, there were others who hadn’t tried out last year. Like Tiffany. Not that Levi remembered that fact just about then, though he briefly paid her some attention before he had started this mad confrontation with these hoops.
Levi was concentrating so diligently on them - or attempting to - that he nearly missed the fourth year closely trailing him. Oh N.O. That meant she had surely seen his calamity seconds before! The thought made the blood rush to his face, especially since a hurried glance over his shoulder told him who it was: Calliope, one of the talented members of last year’s Slytherin team. The realisation slapped him in the face and upped his embarrassment. It was why he took a moment to process her words of advice. Thank goodness the next few hoops were stationary; he started to fly through them without issue. Smaller… squish himself against the broom handle… not lead with his head, literally.
Calliope’s words echoed in his mind and as the next moving hoop loomed. Oddly enough, he felt less nervous now. Perhaps it was the compliment that had helped? He needed to see to what degree it had. Levi, in addition to tucking his legs in a tag more, leaned forward so that his chest was just about parallel with the broomstick. The Hufflepuff shot through the hoop without issue, a lot more smoothly than he would have expected, in fact. “THANK YOU FOR THE ADVICE AND COMPLIMENT!” he yelled as the Slytherin peeled off. His respect for her had just grown; maybe one day he would be able to return the favour.
Levi finished zooming through the rest of the hoops - all without any more bumps - then headed off to see if he would be able to have a shot at Keeping next. On the way there, he noted that Marina, Zephyr and JT were also focused on accomplishing their goals, as much as he was. |

| ❄ Chasing Waterfalls & Wonder ❄ | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers It didn't seem to take too long before some students arrived. Still seated on her broom, although in further consideration Jasmine probably ought to observe tryouts from the ground so she could better take notes and keep out of the way of stray bludgers. It seemed there was going to be some more interest in the keeper position this year compared to previous years. With Diego heading to goal hoops to take over from Janice and show what he'd got, which given his experience with gobstones, Jasmine wasn't going to lie that Keeper seemed like an odd choice. Chaser or Beater seemed as if it would offer more transferrable skills, if she was honest.
Another new player, Levi was next to arrive, who seemed eager to get started. She had noticed him eying the goal hoops but decided to try the aerial hoops first. Which was a nice test of flying skills, without needing to be too over-the-top. Oof, she felt bad though when she noticed him collide into the hoop. But he seemed to shake it off, true sense of quidditch ability was how well one could shake it off when obstructions happened. Tiffany hadn't kicked off into the air yet, having taking a few moments to stretch. Which was more than okay, there was no pressure to be first, it was more about quality of abilities rather than speed. If they had the right form down, the speed would come. What was a small concern was the way Calliope sauntered past her housemate and bumped her to catch the older snakette off-guard. Jasmine's eyes narrowed in concern, but with no shouting or crying, she wondered if maybe it was just an accident? She'd keep an eye for any unsportsmanlike behaviors, but for now, there wasn't really anything to be concerned with. Calliope had offered some sound advice to the younger Hufflepuff, so the jostle was likely accidental.
Hearing someone from the stands cheer for Marina, it was then that she noticed the Gryffindor second year had joined the fray. She knew last term that the girl had talent and the reserve keeper wasn't meant to sour anything, but merely a learning experience. With her sense of urgency, she heard the girl confidently ask Diego for a turn in the goal. She'd wait to see what Diego would answer, but she hoped they would rotate without having to force anyone's hand. She wanted to see what both had to offer, after all.
Unsurprising was the presence of Vashti's grandson Zephyr whom Jasmine took note of immediately on his seeker instinct. The boy was a natural, and she didn't need to take too many notes on him, since he was definitely focused more on his own flying and the snitch rather than some of the other prospective players.
Another seasoned player, James JT seemed rested enough and was in the air before she could say quaffle. She appreciated him cheering on his housemates as he made his first scoring attempt. Calliope's samaritan efforts had been appreciated by Levi, who seemed to find greater confidence and zoomed towards the hoops. "There's another set of goal hoops at the other end, one keeper hopeful can head over to that end and chasers can rotate between the two in attempting goals." Although there were at least four keeper hopefuls, so they would still need to rotate, but it would give them a little more time in front of the goals. "You're all doing great so far!" And was there a glint of something gold hovering in front of Cat in the stands? ooc: Apologies for the delay in my feedback. A quick note about the quaffles; the intention is that there are 2 that are levitating at the end of the aerial hoop course, so once your character flies through the aerial hoops, they can collect one before aiming. Since we have several keeper hopefuls this term, your character can start at either end of the aerial hoop course,... there will be 2 quaffles levitating at each end of the hoop course, just indicate which keeper they're targeting at.
You have until the close of day on the 20th to partake in quidditch tryouts. See the initial intro post for guidelines information.

Diego typically played Keeper during leisure games, when he was helping his friend Viano practice during summers. As for Gobstones, he felt like more of a hindrance, having been benched the previous years he played. He waved at Marina flying his way. That's right, she also played Keeper before as Reserve. "Hi Marina." Take turns? "Of course!" Diego had no problems with that and he could feel the energy of intrusion. "I hope you don't end up on the bench again." Which was his way of wishing her luck, as a fellow bench warmer, he knew the feeling. Who knows, he could play as a different position, maybe even as Beater.
Diego's eyes did flash toward something gold by the stands admist the show with the other Chasers. Hmm.. who would go for that first? He wondered. |

| Ariel Scamander: Gryffindor Chaser Bathes in Maple Syrup | Dancing Lobster | Moy Pomidor | Seneca's Beard | That Is So Fetch! Ariel had arrived late.
Not dramatically late. Just... Ariel late. A few minutes at most. Strolling onto the pitch with her broom over one shoulder, her red hair half-tied, the girl's expression hovered somewhere between awake and hazed from a night of sleeping on a textbook and drooling on parchment studying. She nodded at Professor Springer in greeting—the kind of nod that said yes, I know what day it is; no, everything is fine; yes, I know what needs to be done.
The day for tryouts had come again. If things went her way, this would be her third term on the Gryffindor team. She was not nearly as sentimental about it as other players, but Quidditch had a way of anchoring her at Hogwarts. Especially this year.
The phrase 'OWL year' had been floating around her head since the moment she'd boarded the train in September, mentioned by professors, pinned to study schedules, stamped into every conversation about the future. Everyone else seemed to be treating it like a looming storm. Ariel mostly treated it like the weather. It would happen. She'd deal with it. No point in panicking ahead of schedule.
Quidditch, at least, was familiar. Predictable. Air, motion, instinct. Much easier than trying to memorize the many details about Goblin Rebellions.
She paused just long enough to stretch. One arm crossed her chest, the other following. There was then small twist at the waist and a roll of her shoulders, without a grand warm-up routine or pep talk. Ariel was just easing her muscles awake like she'd done a hundred times before.
Moments after, she swung onto her broom in one smooth motion and lifted off the ground with minimal effort. There was no explosive takeoff this year. No dramatic ascent. Just a steady rise, as though the air itself had decided to accommodate her.
She drifted toward the aerial hoops, letting others rush ahead so she could take in the pitch, noting where the wind tugged a little harder near the stands, how the moving hoop dipped on a delayed rhythm, and where bludgers were being released.
With all the information she needed gathered, her calculations complete, she nudged her broom forward and darted off at full speed toward one of the aerial hoops.

| Zephyr Amstern, Ravenclaw Seeker Baguette | there is no D in my name | TRAITORclaw | Queenie of Narnia With the completion of the hoops obstacle course, Zephyr took to flying around the pitch in search of the snitch. It allowed him another perspective of the rest of the players trying out, glimpses of moments as he raced on by - JT aiming for the hoops, Levi calling his thanks to Calliope, Professor Springer observing, Diego hovering by the goal hoops, Ariel zooming for the obstacles...
And a glint of gold by the stands.
Zephyr turned sharply towards it, leaning low on his broom as he picked up speed, cutting across the pitch. The students watching from the stands rapidly came into focus, though he didn't let himself dwell on picking out who was who. That golden sheen held his full attention - not quite a tunnel vision, because he was still aware of his surroundings, though it was more subconscious, instinctive.
But would he reach it before it zipped off again?

Hogwarts RPG Name: Marina García Massey Gryffindor Second Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Adrian García Massey Slytherin Fifth Year x5
| Marina García Massey | Gryffindor, Keeper hopeful *sappysapper* MAJNOO, YO! Diego's oh so casual comment got to her, but Marina forced a grin anyway. Coping mechanism, hello. “Statistically speaking, it would be impressive if I managed to repeat that exact tragedy twice in a row.”
She nudged her broom a little closer to her end of the course, eyes flicking briefly toward the stands before she looked back at him, determination slipping in between the jokes. “Let’s make it harder for them to ignore us, yeah? Worst case, we both scare the quaffles a little.”
Then she straightened, before pointing at the levitating balls near her side. “I’ll take these first. You watch, judge silently, pretend you’re not rooting for me. Then I’ll do the same for you.”
And then, jokes aside, she softly and sincerely added: “And for what it’s worth… same. I hope neither of us ends up warming furniture this year.”
With that, she kicked off properly, lining herself up with the hoops, expression sharpening into focus. Time to fly like she meant it.

| astronomizzle ♧ gryffinDORK | & the rest is drag ♣ #badluckDerf Yeah yeah. Yada yada. He was welcome.
Calliope was mid-zip, broom balanced easily beneath her, attention split between the hoop course and keeping a peripheral eye on JT like a hawk guarding a particularly accident prone fledgling, when something in the air shifted.
Her gaze flicked instinctively toward the edge of the pitch just in time to catch a flash of red hair and an all-too-familiar stride. Scamander. Calliope's grip on her broom tightened without her realizing it. She told herself it was annoyance - simple irritation at someone turning up late to tryouts - that had her so riled up right now. That explanation sat neatly in her head even as her eyes tracked Ariel's movements far more closely than they had any right to.
Calliope exhaled slowly through her nose, jaw setting as that hot, familiar competitive instinct flared in her chest. She adjusted her flight path, nudged her broom forward, and snapped her focus back to the course, posture straightening as she prepared to finish her route through the hoops. By the time Calliope cleared the final aerial hoop, her focus had narrowed to something sharp and singular: grab a quaffle. The course spat her out at the far end of the pitch, wind tugging at her robes as she leveled her broom. She reached out, fingers closing decisively around one of the two levitating quaffles as she swept past, tucking it against her side without hesitation. Ahead, a blonde girl had just taken up position between the goal hoops. A second year, if her quick glance was right (and it almost always was) one of last term's benchwarmers.
Unfortunate for her.
Calliope adjusted her grip, rose just enough to line up the shot, and then drove forward, putting her whole body into it - core tight, shoulder rolling through the fluid motion as she hurled the quaffle with everything she had. The ball tore through the air toward the hoops, a statement as much as a shot. And yet she didn't linger to admire it - or perhaps was just too presumptuous to. Instead she was already pulling up, eyes flicking back toward the pitch and the other flyers: toward the next obstacle, the next metric, the next person she might need to outfly. And just maybe wonder if Scamander had seen that.

| Tiffany Rose, Beater hopeful + Professor Springer responses ❄ Chasing Waterfalls & Wonder ❄ | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers Mid-stretch was when she felt the shoulder collide into her and Tiffany did everything in her power to keep her balance. Which wasn't too challenge thankfully in part due to the hours she'd spent climbing up their treehouse back home. Other credit was due to having siblings and she always needed to be on-guard. She doubted it was on purpose, because even though Calliope had given her those warnings, surely she wouldn't want to sabotage a future teammate? Except in the couple years she'd observed Calliope she definitely seemed very much self-preserving and doing what would benefit herself. So if for whatever reason she thought that Tiffany would sabotage the Slytherin Quidditch Team, then Tiffany had no doubts the girl would do whatever she could to make sure she didn't make the team. And she was here to prove her wrong in that she did deserve to be here, that she could do it. If nothing else, she was prideful.
Kicking off into the air, the sixth year flew carefully guided her broom towards the first aerial hoop, her gaze was on one thing thought. Except she got momentarily distracted by the glint of something shiny in near the stands, but she wasn't going for seeker. Taking one of the hovering bats, she paused in the air, waiting for the moment. Once the bludger shot towards her, she swung and allowed the bludger to fly off and towards that spot of gold she'd seen. One goal as beater: prevent the seekers from capturing the snitch, right? Jasmine was pleased that Diego didn't seem too offended when Marina shooed him away. Although from what she'd observed of him in Gobstones the past couple years, he seemed very relaxed. Chill. Perhaps even a pushover? She hoped he wouldn't be so on the quidditch team and he'd be able to find his place. She did see him flash towards the stands and Jasmine followed, wondering if he would make a dive for it. The interesting thing about tryouts was even if you didn't normally play seeker, there wasn't anything that prohibited one from attempting a practice snitch capture. Versatility was important, Jasmine had learned.
She wondered if Ariel would show and was pleased to see her although she was disappointed that girl didn't offer and dramatic flair this afternoon. She hoped she wasn't stressed yet because it was way too early in the term to stress. But the confident nod was enough for Professor Springer to not bee terribly worried (only minor).
The tricky part was navigating snitch captures when they were close to the stands, because you had to to make sure to not fly too close to the stands where you risked flying into innocent spectators. Zephyr seemed to navigate with purpose and professionalism, however the golden object seemed unwilling to be captured so quickly, zipping upwards and away... for now. Or perhaps the fourth year would follow its trail and capture it anyway.
Watching Marina with interest, she did appreciate the camaraderie from the younger lion. There was an air of teamwork about the pair that Jasmine just knew they'd work well together. She was curious how she'd hold up against Calliope who seemed determined to outshine, which was actually no surprise. "Twenty more minutes." She shouted, after a sharp whistle, hoping they could all hear her. ooc: Due to some unforeseeable site downtime over the weekend, you'll have until close of day on the 21st now. See the initial intro post for guidelines information. This goes for gobstones and quidditch submissions.

| Ariel Scamander: Gryffindor Chaser Bathes in Maple Syrup | Dancing Lobster | Moy Pomidor | Seneca's Beard | That Is So Fetch! All the observations she'd gathered snapped neatly into place, and her earlier lethargy was replaced by the quiet clarity that flight gave her. OWLs, essays, Goblin Rebellions, all of it dissolved beneath the roar of air in her ears. Up here, there was only trajectory, timing, and instinct.
She shot through the first hoop with ease, centre clean, her robes snapping behind her. The second came fast and much closer than expected, but she dipped a shoulder and let momentum carry her through. The third required a sharper lean, a slight twist of her wrist, a subtle tightening of her core to keep alignment.
By the time the redhead reached the last moving hoop, she was already adjusting, anticipating its delayed dip. She waited half a heartbeat longer than instinct screamed to, then cut through as it lowered, all while she felt the faint brush of displaced air along her sleeve.
Ariel didn't bother considering whether that had been the hoop's rim or a bludger hissing past. She simply rolled her broom in a tight spiral and levelled out again as if nothing had happened before plucking a Quaffle, tucking it under her arm as she turned toward the goal hoops.
That was when she noticed Calliope. The Slytherin's powerful throw, the unapologetic drive, and the way she flew away spoke volumes.
She quickly flicked her gaze away, expression unchanged as she stored away the information, and angled her broom, taking the long curve around the pitch rather than cutting directly. It was a slow, measured approach. Deliberate. Testing distance. Testing the keeper's response time. Testing herself.
As she reached range, she lifted the Quaffle one-handed, posture loose, almost lazy. Then—
There was a sudden snap of motion. Ariel accelerated just enough to shift momentum, pulled the Quaffle across her body, and released it low and fast toward the right-side hoop.

| JT Forsfelle Slytherin Chaser Swedishfish Girl! ❄ Page-Turning Seamstress ❄ Jess's Soul Sister! Sweetest Swede! JT knew Calliope was keeping a eye on him even now during tryouts, it was hard not feel her staring even if she seemingly was occupied with showing off her chaser skills to Professor Springer. Blocking thoughts of his fellow irritating snake chaser out JT nuded his broom forwards as he retreated back to the start of the aerial hoops course.
It was then that something red whipped past him in the hoop course which JT identifed as Ariel of Gryffindor. It was good that he was alert, and able to swerve sideways or they would have collided in the air which could have ended miserably for the both of them. One bump was enough. JT gave Ariel a head start in the course before he nudged his broom forward, leaning over the handle as he flew through the aerial hoops without effert. At the end of the course he neatly plucked a hovering quaffle out of the air before aiming for the goal where the dark haired youth from hufflepuff (Levi) hovered. Pulling his arm back JT thrust forward on his broom, and released the quaffle with all his strength and speed toward the left goal hoop. Did he score? JT didn't wait to see, to make room for the next chaser hopeful.
