User Notes: what are they and how do I leave one?
User notes are fun little things to stick in another member's profile. For example, "I have so much fun RPing with you in Diagon Alley! Cant wait to do it again!"

There are two ways to leave a usernote:

1. Go to the user's profile page.
2. Scroll down below the signature section to the Forum Info box
3. You should see something that looks like: User Notes: 208 [View] [Post User Note]
4. You may view that member's usernotes (yes, they're public!), or leave your own usernote by clicking on the appropriate link.

1. Click on a username while in a thread
2. A drop down menu will appear and you should click on the last option, "Add User Note"

What are referrals?
Referrals are the number of people a member has referred to the site. When someone is registering, they are asked if a current member told them about the site, and if they were referred, then they can put the username of that member.

What is a tag and how do I get one?
Tags are the words and quotes located above a member's post. These words are given by an administrator (such as a joke/for fun/at random). The limit is two tags.

Unfortunately, tags cannot be requested by members - except during very special occasions. Please do not PM site moderators and administrators asking for a tag - be patient and your tag will come.

What are public groups?
Public usergroups are special groups that you can join. We currently have fan clubs which you can join. Some of these groups have special privileges, such as special forums to post in. You have to be approved by the moderator to become part of a group.

Can I change my name?
Yes, but it's not that easy. In order to change your name you must be a member of the site for no less than a year. You also must have at least 4000 posts and NO warnings. We do not encourage you to change your name, however we know that sometimes your tastes change.

To request a name change, please fill out the request form . Further questions should be PM'd to an admin, who will review the situation at their discretion.

Please note that will no longer be allowing the use of special characters in usernames (such as hearts, stars, Chinese characters, etc.). Those members that already have usernames with these special characters will be allowed to keep their current name.

Moderators and administrators may also change their username; however, the requested username must be similar to the current username or something that members already know you by for recognition purposes.

What is my member number?
Your member number is located in your profile url and is a number that is unique to each member. The quick and dirty way to find it is:

1) Hover your cursor over your member name at the bottom of the screen or in a post. If this does not work, click into your profile and look at the url in your browser.

2) At the bottom of your browser you will see your profile's url.

3) The url should look like this:

4)The number following your username is your member number (this member's number is 11507).

If someone is sending me hate mail, what should I do?
First of all, let the SS admins deal with the issue. Immediately forward the message to any admin. Try not to take it personally, you know every where you go in life there is a bad egg in the carton. We ask that you please not respond in any way to it. Replying to hate mail may actual put you in jeopardy of breaking SS rules, as well.

What are the +'s by people's names?
Those are people you have listed as buddies. You can add members to your buddy list using the Buddy/Ignore Lists tab in your User CP.

Why are there annoying adverts/popups?
As you can imagine keeping a site as large as SnitchSeeker running can be very costly. We have always relied upon adverts and popups to help supplement our income; i.e. they raise money for us and are a large part of why we can be here for our members. You will notice that most sites you go to will have adverts and popups as well, it is very common. These advertisements should not seriously take away from your enjoyment of the site and are a small price to pay in order to keep the site we love. However, if you find them especially distracting there are many popup blockers to be found on the internet for download.

Why can't I PM another member?
You are most likely trying to contact a member of the "Newbie" usergroup. You need to have ten posts AND be in the "Members" usergroup before you can use Private Messaging.

Another possibility is that the person's inbox is full. There is nothing you can do about this until the person deletes some of their PMs. Try contacting them via email or instant messaging if that information is available in their profile to let them know they need to clean out their inbox.
