Whoever said the petting zoo was just for kids? At Diagon Alley's Summer Street Festival, the Magical Petting Zoo is for children of all ages- from 0 to 900. Behind the pastel gates of the petting zoo, adventurers can enjoy an array of different exposures to see the critter creatures of the magical world AND get the chance to feed some animals too...with Mum and Dad's permission, of course.
Upon entering the petting zoo, there is a flobberworm cage straight to the left where you can watch flobberworms make mucus all day long. For our slightly more adventurous critter lovers, there are several gated areas to watch and feed winged-horses, nifflers, porlocks, augureys and llamas.
To feed our creature friends, there are several machines located around the petting zoo filled with food for each specific creature at only a knut a piece!
Enjoy the creatures and pet a flobberworm. They're very hospitable.

"Look! You found your calling. Marcus Branxton: Granian whisperer. Ooooh. Sounds legit." Cat jumped down from her perch and hurried over to grab up Mo's camera. She was getting a picture of this.
It was something he had been pretty cognisant of since the time he could look in a mirror, which had been a long time. And for many years, he had been hitting markers of greater attractiveness. His ever growing height was one, the filling out of his jawline, his just face in general...it was all part of his package. But for the past few months he had been stuck. There wasn't much more he could DO to get any more good looking, just wouldn't be fair, yeah? Smirk.
Then it hit him. A beard. It was manly too. And he was one of those, so a beard he would grow. As soon as he could figure out HOW to grow one. Nothing too rustic, but some light hair...oh yeah. Smirky smirk. He'd rock that.
And that was what he was thinking about as he leaned on the llama cage. More like loitering 'cause he could. A beard. Hmm.
This wasn't a place she'd choose to visit, really, mainly because her favorite animals were along the line of dragons, and she believed none would be found here. There was only a little hope, and lots of disappointment right now.
However, she found another specimen that was just as impressive and interesting as dragons. Even Aidan would agree, surely. And since Ascanius was the next impressive thing in the festival then the direction she took was extremely obvious. To Ascanius. She cleared her throat the moment she stood next to him, since the fellow seemed to be deep in thought. "Hey, A." Because why not?
And he was looking at llamas? Probably not. Hey, Tag's sister likes llamas. And that was very random so she'll keep that to herself.
"Finding you here. It never crossed my mind." Not so random thought. That one she could share.
Dropping her bag on the floor, because she didn't want it swinging around and hitting the girl in the face, Emily bent down at the knees. "It's fairly straight forward," she started, holding out her own hand. "Just lay your hand out flat like mine, and try not to curl your fingers up... or he might want to nibble on those too." And then she sprinkled a bit of the feed on her own palm, modelling how to hold the feed out.
Yoink. Bag gone.
Henry crawled through the crowds and stuffed that bag into his own, which was all extended and stuff and could fit a billion and a million different things in it. He'd look and see what was in it later.

See? This was his calling, wasn't it? Mo turned to grin at Cat for the picture, carefully ducking his head so he didn't get a wing to the ol' cranium, but he nearly fell over anyway when he saw a tiny figure disappearing into the crowd with his camera.
Nonononono. That was his Alice-camera birthday gift from last year, one of the first camera's he'd ever owned and the only one small enough for stuff like this and it was gone. Mo gave Cat a completely devastated look before pointing in the general direction of his camera. "Come BACK with my camera, you rotten little... rotten thing. I'll call the constabulary immediately." The Aurors, in other words. He knew one personally.

The Hogwartian just nodded and looked around. Honestly, what are you doing here, Ascanius? Had he, like Lottie, hoped to find something else? Llamas weren't that interesting, you know? Unicorns were more interesting than llamas, by far.

Lottie did have a question to ask him, though! "How's that motorbike, car, whatever thing doing, by the way?" In other words, how's your summer going? And, no, she wasn't asking so she could go and tell Aidan all about it. She was going to try and stop that for a while.

Oh, what the hell. She wouldn't be at the carnival alone so she would survive.
Schuyler bit her bottom lip as she smiled at her, a dead giveaway that she was pleased. And happy. And just glad that Olly confirmed their new friendship. Not only would they be confusing together, but they would make confusing look GOOD.
"Of course it's a thing," she answered, slinking her arm around Olly's and lightly tugging them both in the direction of the festival. "It's like one of those unwritten rules.." At least when there were festivals around. And when one of the friends was in the mood for cotton candy.

The candy man handed them their cotton candy at his little stand that was situated just outside some sort of zoo. Odd placement, but he got their business. And not only did they get pink cotton candy, but they had also gotten its equally tasty counterpart: blue. It had been swirled around and created in that strange machine, and now each color was sitting atop a little white, paper cone.
"You do like cotton candy, right?" Schuyler had never really asked..

She held her hand out, caught somewhere between brave and nervous.
Though she was focused on entertaining Lola, and ensuring said llama didn't eat the girls fingers, she did spare a few glances at the girls father. A small part of her wanted to roll her eyes at him, but she didn't. Instead she returned her gaze to Lola's hands. "That's it... see this way, while it eats the food it won't accidentally get your fingers caught between its teeth." Not that a llama would actually eat fingers on purpose. Emily wasn't the llama expert Rusty made her out to be, but she figured mundane beasts such as these weren't exactly on the finger eating list. More to the point, while she was a kick-butt auror, Rusty was an unknown. How protective of a father would he be? At any rate, she wasn't about to let the girl be harmed on her watch.
Emily couldn't help but chuckle though. Menace? Punished by dragons? Merlin Lola was cute. A little fire cracker in the making, no doubt.
"That's it, keep your fingers curled down and let him come to you a bit," she encouraged, "he might sniff at you a little bit, but that's just his way of getting to know you."

Between watching Lola, and looking at Rusty, Emily didn't bother getting up to chase the little brat, she was off duty, and it was petty theft... boring.
It wasn't as if there was anything valuable in the bag anyway. Just a copy of the Prophet, some receipts and half a box of Bertie Botts. Anything of remote importance she kept on her person. Money, keys, misc.

Olly's skin tingled slightly where Schuyler had slung her arm around hers. She wasn't exactly used to people touching her. At all. But she'd relaxed slightly by the time they'd reached the carnival and bought their cotton candy. It was Schuyler. And surprisingly enough, she was her friend now. So she would have to get used to the touching thing.
At least the cotton candy stand wasn't like BAM right in the middle of the festival. It was somewhat to the side which meant that there weren't THAT many annoying little children other people there. And the cotton candy looked really delicious too. Despite the pink. "I would have said if I didn't." Olly replied with a small smile. "I don't tend to spend my money on things I don't really want." Like, say, one part of a two-way mirror. Ahem.

He smirked broadly when she winked back at him. See, he didn't need the beard to elicits a response obviously, but he amused by the thought of what would happen when he grew one. There was something really dapper and he dared to say manly about a beard. Being that he was both, this would work. Perfectly.
As for the wandering here by accident, he shook his head. Had he wanted to end up here? Yeah, no. But he didn't do anything without purpose so if he was here then he was here. Yeah? So no, Lottie. Wrong.
And he could have replied to that comment, but he was just going to smirk. 'Cause, they didn't do the talking thing much, did they? 'Ceot one time. And that was all summed up by one word- mauve.
"The repair shop?" he clarified. Aka, his summer job. He had gotten a job assisting in a muggle repair shop, which was dirty and disgusting and manly. "It's good. I'm helping build a motorbike from scratch. And you?" The summer thing.

Cotton candy was almost like magic for muggles. Instantly melting in your mouth like that. And every time Schuyler ate it, she felt like she was a little kid again. She tore off a bit of the pink and a bit of the blue and placed them both in her mouth. Was it bad that she could not distinguish between the two? They tasted the same. Hmh. She would ask Olly. "Is the blue supposed to taste different from the pink?"
Olly's comment, the one about not spending money on things she didn't want, hadn't really registered in Ky's mind until a second or two later. Perhaps the pastel pink and blue had distracted her. But when the words did sink in, and her mind skipped to the mirrors they'd just bought, the corners of her mouth turned up. Her eyes moved up from the cotton candy to consider the other girl, and Schuyler thought she was much sweeter than she let on.
Schuyler found herself in front of the flobberworm cage with Olly, and she pushed her lips to the side as she examined the closest one. "Mostly gross, though.." She scrunched her nose up a little. Or at least the mucus grossed her out some. But she smiled then and shrugged. She still thought flobberworms were very nice creatures. Harmless, just rather sloooow.
But next were the nifflers! "Oh, they're so cute." With those tiny, long snouts. She swerved around the corner of the cage and got a little closer. She took her wallet from her bag and retrieved a knut. Maybe it would be shiny enough to catch the attention of one of them. And sure enough, a niffler snapped its head towards the coin and even began creeping towards it. "They sure like their bling," she grinned.
Fern turned around at the sound of Tallulah's voice and stuck out her tongue. Then she returned her attention to the winged horse and stood on tiptoes to scratch its neck. When her cousin asked a question, the 11-year-old rolled her eyes dramatically.
"That's stupid," she answered softly, "Abraxans are way too big to race. Unless, well, maybe if you're a half giant or someone cast an Engorgio charm on you or something. But I don't know what race you'd enter, and anyway, you know we only raise-"
Fern was cut off by someone yelling, and she immediately pulled her hand out and turned around. Her immediate inclination was to warn about the dangers of being loud around unfamiliar horses, but then the person's actual words sunk in.
Fern stared at the girl. Then she whipped her head to the side and was about to glower at the giggling boy who had suddenly appeared, but he looked sorry already, so she returned her attention back to the girl.
"Free them?" she hissed, hands balled into fists, "And then what? Can't you tell these horses are already well taken care of? Look at how nicely groomed they are. Their coats are shining, and their manes and tails are untangled and clean. Their eyes are clear, and I bet if we checked their hooves, they would be good too. And you want to take them where? Out in front of the muggles? Winged horses? And Abraxans? Even ignoring the wings, regular horses aren't this big. Clydsedales are big, and even they aren't this huge. And horses don't just go walking through London everyday, you know. So what are you going to do, if you can even get them out of fair, cast a Disillusionment Charm?"
And no, Fern wasn't going to let the girl know how super cute her dress was, because she was ANGRY.

Olivia, in a fleeting attempt to not show weakness, decided to keep talking. Yeah. Keep talking. Something will eventually come. That's what the lady said, right?"Pfft.... No! What I was going to say was... that... They, um. WE... could stand here, and tell them to... free them." PRONOUNS! "Me and you... tell the zoo people... to free the animals."
"Oh! And I don't know how to cast charms. But good thinking!" She paused, "Future ally..."
Olivia looked over her shoulder to make sure her dad couldn't see her. He wasn't in sight, but Olivia took a confident step back toward the girl, to try and recompose her position.

Rozanna smiled at the girl and boy she had been trying to calm down, and it seemed to be working for now. She almost said goodbye when she saw a rather small person doing something peculiar. SEE, this is why she needed eyes on the back of her head. Or at least an assistant to come and help her.
Kids. Who'd have 'em?
"HEY! HEY YOU, LITTLE MR!" Rozan yelled as she actually ran after the little thief. Looking like an utter fool as she did it. She slowed down along the way by the victims of the crimes, "So so sorry, I will have your things back right away!" She sure hoped so anyway.
Aaaaaaaaaaand... she was off again.
BUT WHERE DID HE GO?
HELP.... SOMEONE HELP........ is what she wanted to shout, but instead, she offered the guests warm smiles along the way. Because she had this TOTALLY under control... totally.

The communications between them during the end of the year and an earlier run-in with her at the start of summer had clearly show him that. Which in turn bothered the cursebreaker seeing as he played off her feelings. Not to mention he had plans for this summer...for them...and he would like to have her happy for them.
And everything else of course.
And so, he had made the decision to have fun with the summer and their time together when Fina at least was free from her job obligations. Addison had invited her to the street festival for an afternoon, himself free after a morning at Gringotts. On a lark, he had suggested meeting by the animals for lack of another idea coming to mind. Besides, animals were cheerful...right?
Dressed somewhat between work and casual, Addison made his way through the crowds to the meeting place. His gaze passing briefly down to look at his watch to check the time.
Josephina was running late, but it totally wasn't her fault. She was distracted mostly because since the kids boarded the train for King's Cross, suddenly she felt relief and energy that she'd been missing ever since ... well since the day the groundskeeper got soul-sucked. So with that energy she'd been busy tidying up her classroom and the Puff Common Room for the last couple weeks, up until ... well an hour ago, when she'd finally realized she better call it quits if she wanted to meet Addison at the Festival thing. Which she totally did! The rest of the tidying could totally wait; she only got Addison during holiday breaks and occasional weekends, so she had to make the most of it.
Donning a long white maxi dress and slipping on her heels, she apparated directly to Diagon Alley from Hogsmeade, and scanned the area. Where had he said to meet again? OH ... Creatures! Durrrr...!
Then she saw him, just as his gaze flickered down to his wristwatch, which meant; perrrffecct. She could sneak up on him.
Cautiously walking closer from behind him, she reached her arms up swiftly, to cover his eyes with her hands, thankful her heels made it easier, and whispered into his ear, softly. "Guess who?"

Fingers entwined with Felix's she pulled him along, trying to get him to keep up. This wasn't just a regular petting zoo, it had magical creatures!!
"I hope they have all kinds. Do you think we'll see a unicorn or are those hard to source?" She'd seen them at Durmstrang but she didn't know how available they were or what licences were required in order to have one. It was for that reason that she settled in herself that even if they had none she would still enjoy everything else they had.
Freya was just about convinced she'd led them in a circle when she spotted IT. "Eeep! Come on!!"
And of course there was more pulling.

He let Freya tug him along as he looked at other things while they passed by. The mechanical hippogriff looked cool. The pie eating contest looked cool. All the food looked amazing and his stomach agreed every time he got a whiff of the deliciousness. But the petting zoo...
"I don't know." he muttered, looking longingly back to the vendor selling meat. Though the sudden tug had him jogging a little to catch up. Oh, she found it? DID THEY JUST PASS WORMS?? What kind of place was this!? He really did make the effort to catch up with Freya, walking along side her as he warily eyed everything. "You see any unicorns yet?"

Addison might have questioned the happenstance had the whispered words not followed the occurance, a smile gracing his face in response as he knew exactly just who it might be. But he wasn't about to let her off easily. No...not when she was apparently in better spirits then she had been in previous months.
"Hmmm...Aurora?" he questioned, suppling his older of two sisters that were in fact younger than him. At least she was a safe guess given the female voice maing it fit but not a way to get Fina jealous at him naming another woman. This one's even more friendly than the ones in the forest." Just trying to reassure him. He didn't seem very enthused about petting them the last time they'd run into one.
...Something about the horns and them not liking males as much. Pfft, no. Her day was technically complete now. Just had to pet it then feed a few winged horses. "We can grab something to eat and watch you take on the mechanical hippogriff but fiiiiiirst the unicorn!" It was of the very most importance.

His favorite badger actually but he wasn't about to be all cheesy, especially so out in the open amongst plenty of her current and former students.
"Did Wenlock live in the 13th century?" AKA duh in arithmancy talk. It was tough at times being separated by the school term and each person's separate responsibilities. And usually it had been his job overseas that put distances in his relationships.

With a great heave of a SIGH Cat returned over to stand with Mo, looking all sad faced like that had been her camera. It hadn't, but she knew it was important to Mo and stuff and now he was SAD.
So she gave him a hug cause well... what else COULD she do?

She figured he'd appreciate the compromise but part of said compromise involved him actually petting this thing. Freya looked over at him. He'd stopped short of the fence. It reminded her of that other night, he hadn't wanted to get close but that was why he needed to now. She'd told him to last time and he didn't leave the forest with any new puncture holes. He should have been more willing to listen to her.
His question had her giggling. "If it weren't friendly they wouldn't make it so you can pet it. He's probably been bred in captivity, harmless. Might not even know how to use its horn." She ended with a teasing grin.
The odds of him being viciously attacked were slim...well actually no they weren't but given the look on his face she wasn't about to tell him that. Instead she reached her hand toward him. "Come on, you've pet a wild one and got away from an acromatula, this should be nothing."
Except it was everything and completely amazing and she couldn't see how he could NOT like unicorns of all creatures.

She was trying hard, really she was but soon she was laughing. Felix was being even more ridiculous and she couldn't help but roll her eyes at his dramatics. "Alright, he knows, but he also knows not to use it."....She hoped. They were usually such lovely creatures.
Theeeeere was the smirk she liked seeing. Her little pep talk worked, yeah? It looked like it. He just said he had this so even with him only barely inching toward the fence she had no real reason to not believe him. When you thought about it, even if he freaked out the chances of the unicorn freaking as well were also slim. He was fiiiiiiiiiiiiine.
She held her breath waiting for him to give himself the final push but just when he was close enough she saw the unicorn rear up on its hind legs.
Knowing fully well that the fence was enough she didn't flinch but her mind was now actively worrying about the boyfriend who'd only just gotten enough courage to step this close. Freya shook anything negative out of her head. He said he had this, the fence was in place. No overreactions.
They would wait for the unicorn to settle then try again. Nod.
