Today’s DADA lesson was among the first on your schedule. Professor Khanna would hope that you’re wide awake by now, and packed with energy as the topic was a particularly interesting one. You wouldn’t want to be asleep for this one!
As you arrive at the Dueling Arena, there doesn’t appear to be anything that gives hints about the topic. In fact, even though the entire Arena wouldn’t be in use, the setup resembles that of a classroom quite closely: neat rows of desks and chairs, while your professor’s desk and the board sit at the front. Professor Khanna is casually leaning against that desk, anchored by their palms resting on either side of them. As usual, they greet you with a smile.
OOC:Welcome to term 72’s DADA lesson! It's certainly not the first one IC-wise, however. Just a gentle reminder to read the Rules and Guidelines, paying particular attention to the first rule that falls under the OOC category: labelling your posts with your student's name and House. In addition, please keep character chatter to a minimum.
We'll get started in about 30 hours CLASS HAS STARTED!

Paul was feeling alright these days, with Idris close by per usual. When he arrived at the Dueling Arena, he could see there would be quite a spectacul today in the lesson.
"Hello, Professor." Paul greeted. He would smile, but it was still hard these days. So his lips tightened from the effort with a nod. They sure seemed happy at least.

Defence Against the Dark Arts was always fun, and Aurora enjoyed it even more because she was fond of Professor Dhruv, having known them for a long time. She was glad that she was feeling wide awake, as she always suffered when she went to a lesson tired. She wanted to be at her best for whatever they had in store for the lesson.
”Hello, Professor!” she greeted cheerfully as she made her way into the Duelling Arena. Aurora waved to Paul and Idris before going to sit by them. As usual she glanced around the room, but she couldn’t find any hints as to what they would be studying. Oh well. She’d know soon enough.

Nathaniel covered a yawn with his hand as he entered the classroom. He'd gone to sleep late last night, partly from studying and partly because he'd had trouble falling asleep for whatever reason, so the fatigue lingered. But this was a subject he liked, so he had no intention of sleeping during class even if a nap would be nice. It wasn't worth missing potentially crucial information for his exams.
"Mornin', Professor," he said. He noted the students who had already arrived, like Paul and Idris and Aurora, and offered a casual nod if they happened to look his way, but otherwise he was silent as he found a seat in the back row to sit in.

And there came the first student. Correction - students, as Idris was in tow. “Hello, Mr. Rocker.” The Hufflepuff’s demeanour came as no surprise. As they greeted Idris, a knowing look passed between them and the Gryffindor: it was one of understanding that they would both continue looking out for Paul.
SPOILER!!: Aurora!

And here was another face that Dhruv knew out of the School. They were pleased to see that Aurora seemed awake; perhaps scones had provided her with some extra energy. “Good morning, Ms. Bay.” It was always lovely to see her in such good spirits, and it was certainly no surprise to see her take a spot with Idris and Paul.

Dhruv may have missed the yawn but they were certain they did not imagine the look of tiredness on Nathaniel's face. They had a feeling that the fifth year had been up last night, focusing on studies. "Good morning, Mr. Hensley." They gave him a keen look. "Remember to take breaks in between your studies for yourself. Power naps wouldn't hurt, provided they don't occur during any lesson, naturally."
It was that time when the lesson was to get started; so, using Wandless Magic, the door to the Arena was shut. Smiling, they moved around the desk and into the mix of desks, chairs and students - the latter of which they preferred the best. “Welcome to another Defense lesson,’’ they said, as always, genuinely pleased to be hosting one. “I know you must be curious about today’s topic but please, hold onto your patience just a little longer as we begin with the first question.” There was a hint of jest in Dhruv’s tone. “Magical or mundane creatures, which would you consider to be a nuisance to households? Why?”
OOC: Thank you for your posts! Feel free to have your character list one mundane creature or one magical creature or both! We’ll continue in about 24 hours! If you have questions, you may PM/VM or reach me on my socials {Facebook/IG} or Trillian if you have me!
Since the lesson has officially commenced, please do not announce the late arrival of any character. That is, unless you would like them to face any consequences
They were talking about… household nuisances? Cat almost laughed at the question. Almost. Defense Against the Dark Arts was a class that she was even less confident in than others, though, so she knew she should trust the process with it.
So. Household nuisance animals.
She raised her hand. “I suppose mice would count. They get into things and sometimes can spread disease. And they make messes and stuff.” They’d had some break into their house a few times throughout her life. Her mom always hated it.

Paul didn't think too deeply on the situation, focusing instead on what the class would entail today. Patiently waiting until the lesson finally began, the first question seemed to bring up some memories.
Thankfully, he was okay enough to handle the memories before he answered once it was his turn, "Nifflers wouldn't be wise to keep in the house, especially if you own jewelry." Thinking of the time one managed to sneak into their home, it took ages to find them beneath the mess left over.

Household nuisances? Aurora wasn’t sure where this was going in terms of the lesson, but she knew that it would make sense in time. And she always enjoyed Professor Dhruv’s lessons.
She raised her hand. ”Ashwinders are a big problem because their eggs can set a house on fire.” So yes, they were a huge nuisance. And also dangerous.

Had Cat laughed, Dhruv would have chuckled; however, like they indicated earlier, the students needed to be patient a little longer. All would be revealed soon enough. “Quite correct. Mice pose many problems to humans. They will consume our food, and even non edibles like soap, paper, electrical wiring. Diseases are spread through inhaling dust containing dried droppings, and this is just one manner in which they can be spread.”

They next called upon Paul, quite unaware of the memories the questions had unintentionally dragged up. Dhruv would have apologised otherwise. “Nifflers certainly pose that threat of destruction, and injury to one wearing the jewelry.” They gave the Hufflepuff a nod of approval before moving on to the next student.

She raised her hand. ”Ashwinders are a big problem because their eggs can set a house on fire.” So yes, they were a huge nuisance. And also dangerous.
Said next student happened to be Rory. “Ah, yes. Ashwinders, which are born the remnants of a magical fire that left burning without supervision. If these Ashwinders roam freely and lay eggs, the eggs can ignite leading to a fire which may potentially lead to a catastrophic fire.”
After checking that there were no other hands raised, the DADA professor moved to the front of the class for the next question. “Now that we have established that there are numerous creatures that may be considered nuisances for whatever reason: when they interfere with the lives of humans, they cause damage to buildings or other belongings, or threaten health.” As they spoke, these three main points appeared magically on the board.
“Our topic today… ghouls.” Yes, ghouls were considered a nuisance for one particular reason. “There is a host of information available to us about ghouls. What do you know about them? Or about Chameleon Ghouls in particular? You may share one piece of information about either.”
OOC: I appreciate your posts, guys! <3 I hope Dhruv and I have made the instructions clear enough; if not, call me, beep me, if you wanna reach me! Where are all my fellow Kim Possible fans at?! xD We’ll continue in approximately 24 hours!

Nod. This is why her mom had taught her and her sisters to never leave a magical fire burning without supervision. And honestly that was just common sense even without the risk that ashwinders posed.
Oh, they were learning about ghouls. That made a lot of sense.
Aurora was glad that they had managed to avoid having any in her house, and she hoped that she would never have to deal with them.
She raised her hand. ”Chameleon ghouls are a kind of ghoul that can disguise themselves as everyday objects.” That made them a lot harder to detect, obviously.

Paul thought his classmates' answers were interesting. He couldn't (well, he could, he just didn't want to) imagine Ashwinders taking space where he slept, and thankfully, mice wouldn't be too much of a nuisance when you have cats around. Professor Khanna seemed to always maintain this calm energy. The energy was relaxing him while he thought about the next question.
Ghouls were the topic of the day... "Ghouls are quite noisy... they're kinda like boggarts in taking up space in the crevices of your home, but usually the attic." Paul said. From what he heard about them, they really were a pest.
Ghouls? It was… unexpected. Though, to be fair, most DADA topics were unexpected for Cat. She sat quietly for a moment, wracking her brain for any information she’d read about the creatures.
Aurora’s answer triggered a memory in her, and Cat nodded in agreement with the older girl. When there was a moment, she raised her hand. “The Revelio charm can help find chameleon ghouls that look like something else!” She beamed, proud of herself.

Lux certainly was a wise woman. First up, it was Rory Dhruv called on, having seen her hand raise before the others. “Quite true,’’ they said with a smile. “That ability to blend in, so to speak, is what makes them so difficult to detect and appropriately dealt with. Nicely said, Ms. Bay.”

Dhruv would always be willing to let Paul borrow some of their energy, as they would with any student, if needed. “Wonderful, Mr. Grunt. Also correct. In addition to attics, they also share a preference for barns. Ghouls are known to create some degree of havoc when they think their surroundings have gone too quiet. There has been mention by Ronald Weasley, in our history books, that the ghoul used to impersonate Harry Potter sometimes took to knocking on the pipes for that exact reason.”

Cat’s was among the last whose hand raised, and the answer provided was just as an excellent one as any other. Dhruv returned her beam with a smile of their own. “Indeed. Quite a handy spell, I like to think. Very insightful, Ms. Webb.” For now, they said no more on the matter.
As the discussions were happening, notes continued to appear on the board. “A few other points to note about ghouls. They are classified as beasts and are described as resembling slimy, buck-toothed ogres. Their diet consists of bugs and other household pests, so despite their reputation of being a nuisance, ghouls are rather helpful in this manner.” It was rather astonishing and fascinating how the circle of life worked. “At the British Ministry of Magic, a Ghoul Task Force once existed within the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. Its purpose was to remove unwanted ghouls from houses which were passed on to Muggles.
“Earlier Ms. Webb mentioned the spell which will be a focal point of our lesson.” Yes, nicely done, Cat! "This spell can be somewhat tricky in the manner that it requires heavy concentration. Therefore, it is very important that you focus solely on the spell and your intention when performing it.” Dhruv didn’t doubt for one second that the students could each master the spell at some point. “You will find the necessary information for said spell…” A wave of the hand occurred. “On the board.”
Quote:
Spell: The Revelio Charm Incantation: Revelio {reh-VEL-ee-oh} Wand Movement: Uppercase ‘R’ in the direction of target Light: Yellow
“The incantation is pronounced ‘Reh-VEL-ee-oh’, adding some degree of stress on the syllable ‘vel’. The wand movement? An uppercase - or a capital - R. Like so.” Removing their wand from the holster, Dhruv traced out the letter. “For the next ten minutes, you may practise both separately. I will be around to assist, simply raise your hand if you need me.”

Paul quickly jotted down the Professor's response as part of his notes. As well as the Charm they'd be working with today. The Revelio charm. He was quite curious to find out how it would work on the Ghoul? So he quickly wrote everything down.
Reh-Vel-ee-oh Rolled off the tongue, easily enough. Followed by the 'R' movement. Paul gave it a few tries in the next couple minutes before feeling comfortable. He was then about to start the wand movement wordlessly when the thought came to mind. He rose his hand, "Professor.." Waiting until he got their attention, "I noticed the name is quite similar to the Revealing charm. Does the Revealing Charm, Aparecium, also work as well?" He was very curious to know this.

Paul had taken diligent notes, and his practice? Dedicated. This pleased Dhruv a lot as it told him that the Hufflepuff continued to remain committed to his studies. “Excellently done, Mr. Rocker. A very good question too. The Revealing Charm, Aparecium, brings to light secret messages written with Invisible Ink, as well as any other hidden markings written using Concealing Charms or other means, but not Ghouls. It is interesting to note, however, that the Revelio Charm, in addition to revealing Ghouls, hidden or invisible objects, also works well for messages. Another point to note is that the focus Charm for today does not have any effect on someone in their Animagus form.” A knowing look passed to Paul and Idris.
The professor took a quick look at their watch before addressing the class once more. “If you will please place your belongings, save for your wand into your bags and gather around at the front of the Arena.” They gave the students some time to do this before using Wandless magic to neatly stack the furniture and bags in one corner. Now there was much more space to work with, which was exactly what the students would need.
“Hidden and invisible around the Arena, not just the space void of furniture, are Chameleon Ghouls - not to worry, I assure you they aren’t aggressive. Your task? To first use the Revelio Charm so that the Ghoul becomes visible. Afterwards…” Dhruv paused to give a broad smile. “Comes the fun and creative part. Usually, our lessons are filled with you practicing spells to defend yourself so today, we’re going to do something lighthearted. As mentioned earlier, our history books have documented the story of the ghoul that took Ronald Weasley’s place in his home while Mr. Weasley was away Horcrux-hunting with Harry Potter and Hermione Granger.” A wave of their hand revealed storage bins beside their desk. “In each of these bins are clothing. Not only will these ghouls allow you to give them a fashion makeover, you also get to study them up close. The second part of your task requires you to convince the ghoul you discovered to let you dress them as Mr. Weasley. The first three students to complete the activity will be excused from having to turn in homework that will be given today. You may get started.”
OOC: Hey, guys! The final part of the lesson is up and will last until Monday 16th February, in the evening! Please do not role play for the ghouls

Levi was not a fan of Defense Against the Dark Arts. It wasn't to any fault of Professor Khanna, just the small second year preferred anything involving puzzles or linguistics, which is why he'd taken a liking to subjects like arithmancy and potions. But as this subject was a mandatory subject through his first five years, he was here.
And apparently using a charm to help them locate ghouls? And dress them up? He vaguely recalled from history class the names that Professor Khanna mentioned, but they were historical figures from a century ago. Also, he normally wouldn't want to forgo his home assignments, but one less assignment for Defense class was definitely motivation to want to be one of the first to complete the activity.
"Professor... when you say... Mr Weasley, which Mr Weasley are you referring to?" Because Ronald, if he recalled was also a Mister and he did have like five brothers that would also be Misters.
"reh-VEL-ee-oh" which was easier to say in his head than aloud because the extra emphasis on the vel did not roll so easily.

Paul nodded, making sure to jot all of that information down quickly. Soon they were told to pack up, as he did, keeping his wand at the ready when approaching well, the Ghoul, once he appears.
Paul turned to the question asked by the younger Ravenclaw, "I think it's supposed to be Mr. Ronald Weasley? But the Weasley men all looked alike right? Freckles and red hair at different length?" He suggested. As for clothes, well, that'll be something else. As he gave the bins a quick glance, seeing a bundle of stuff. Was that a wig in them too?
Paul gave his wand the 'R' shape before saying, "Revelio!" Watching the yellow light and- wow, the Ghoul was not easy on the eyes. He had a moment of wanting to gag at the sight, but barely kept his composure.
"Erm... Mr. Ghoul. Would you like some free clothes?" Everybody liked free, right?

Dhruv would reassure Levi that it was okay if DADA was not their cup of tea; everyone had their own preferences. They were only just making their way towards the Ravenclaw when the question was asked. An answer was about to be made when Paul provided one to the question. Naturally, Dhruv provided confirmation. “Mr. Rocker is quite correct,’’ they said gently. “Mr. Weasley was mentioned by his first name earlier.” It was okay to miss details; what was important was that the confusion was sorted out now. “That is true, the Weasley men did tend to look alike, though of course, there are various ways to tell them apart. Arthur, being thin and balding; Percy, who wears glasses; Bill, who was tall and wore scars of his bravery from the Wizarding War.”
