The Origami Room, aka the Office of Ben Cobblesten The office once occupied by Madeline Grau is now being used by the current Department Head, Ben Cobblesten. As you walk inside, you see a modestly decorated area, with a light wood desk taking up most of the space. There are two navy blue armchairs in front of the desk, in case you wanted to have a seat! The bookcases are filled to the ceiling with interesting reads, and every once in a while there is a picture frame, filled with a number of blonde people--quite obviously his family. The most interesting decoration, of course, are the paper origami swans hovering near the ceiling. At first you think they're memos, but no, they're just there for decoration. On the desk is a giant nameplate, gleaming brightly in the afternoon sun streaming through the window: Well, come on in! Don't be shy! Have a nice cup of tea with Mr. Cobblesten! |
A Ministry Interdepartmental memo soared into Madeline's office and landed lightly on her desk, bearing this message: Quote:
|
Leila had taken the elevator from the first floor down to the third to speak with the Head of the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. She needed to check in and make sure that everything was alright. Any happenings had to be reported to the Minister Tout de Suite. THAT part, she wasn't looking particularly forward to. Alas, she did have a job to do. Walking up to Madeline's office though, she realized that the woman was out. She quickly jotted a note, asking Madeline to contact her, either in person or through the inter-office mail, about anything going on with the department. And to most certainly keep Leila up to date on any future events. But also to have a fabulous week. Her note finished, Leila made her way back to her desk on the first floor. |
Madeline arrived back at her office, and immediately found a note in her mailbox from Leila. Smiling, she poked her head in her office just to see if anyone else was waiting. It was all clear. My employees can behave themselves for a bit while I pop out for a visit, she thought to herself. With that, she headed towards the elevator to head down to the first floor. |
Brianna walked down to the office and put the folder with their completed assignment on her desk, laying the letter on top of the others in the folder. Quote:

Mona stepped quickly into Madeline's office, leaving her division's folder with their current excuse: Quote:

Cackle. Cackle. Cackle. Oh, get a grip on yourself, Corranda darling, darling, darling. Corranda Melvicks sauntered into the Department Head's officer, her pointed, witch's hat tilted a little to the right, her dark, deep grey robes in a state of perfection. Puffs and bangs of white hair emerged from beneath the sides of her tall hat, and her toothy smile was wide. Very wide. The place was empty. Groan. Corranda helped herself to a chair, hoping it was used to carrying as much weight as she possessed - Oh, how flimsy and thin and weedy all of those employees were, these days! - and looked around. Then she took out a pipe of sorts from one of her many dangling, robe pockets, and popped it into her mouth. Where is that accursed head? |
Madeline walked up to her office and found herself--predictably--with an overflowing mailbox. My goodness, her employees worked fast! She had only popped down to level one for fifteen minutes and some were finished with their assignments. She picked up the folders and entered her office to find another surpirse; Corranda Melvicks, who she knew only by face, sitting in one of the chairs with a pipe in her mouth. Or, at least, what looked like a pipe. "Oh, hello," she said happily, walking over to her desk and dropping the folders haphazardly on the mound of papers she had yet to look over, "How can I help you today?" she asked. |
She was so - maddening, Madeline. her voice was sweet and her figure was thin and her eyes were pretty and her job was big - big, big, big. How awful! Corranda just hated her, now. She tipped her hat towards the left, because it was leaning too far to the right, and then took the pipe out of her mouth. "Hullo. How may you help me?" Her voice was half wheezy, half soft. Sickly sweet, in a way. "Yes, help." She shifted in her seat, making herself more comfortable. "Now, then, Head, I have a very useful charm to present to your Committee on Experimental Charms. Very useful indeed." For Corranda, not for Madeline. But she wasn't going to tell the Head that, of course. |
Quote:
|
"A surprise?" Corranda repeated, her beetle, black eyes narrowing silkily. These thin, new employees knew nothing! Nothing at all. It did not even occur to Corranda for a moment that, being the Head of a Department, the woman must have quite a lot of knowledge to be on the post. "It shouldn't be a surprise," she said, overly sweet. "I'm a very good witch. Maybe I should show you one of my charms. How about your desk for an object? Or maybe that's not such a good idea-?" Paperwork? Paperwork for Corranda? To put it mildly, Corranda Melvicks was not at all pleased. Quite the contrary, actually; indeed, this was most disgruntling. So now they required her, Corranda Melvicks, to fill out papers. How maddening! Corranda stood up, deciding she had better go along with the paperwork, if it was such a huge necessity. "I think I'll head over to your Experimental Charms division, after all," she said, not very cheerfully. "Paperwork, and all." |
Leila walked down the hall from the office for the Muggle Worth Excuse Committee, and made her way to Madeline's Office. "Hi, Madeline. I'm so sorry to bother you again. Do you have a moment?" |

With what was happening outside the department, Jason was fed up. He didn't want to stay there and watch those people argue about not letting the man in. Sighing, he did what the head had told him and entered her office. He was an obliviator and he could help with what had happened. Hopefully, Ivan won't get too mad at him for disappearing. Jason surely wouldn't want his boss to be upset with him. |
"Yes bring them in here and talk to them here who knows what could happen out there" said Dan |
Madeline walked back into the office with a sigh and saw that Dan and Jason were already there, much to her relief. That saved her a trip to their offices. "Good, both of you are here," she said happily. She sat behind her desk and waited for Doyle and the young Slytherin girl to enter, "When they get in here, I'm going to ask them a few questions, and once we figure out what is wrong with him you two can perform whatever spell you need to to fix him," she told them. |
Jason gave a weak smile the moment she entered into her office. She seemed relieved about something, but he had no business to know what made her happy. He watched her as she sat down behind her desk and clearly spoke to them about Doyle. "Ye--Yes," he stuttered pushing his glasses up. Looking sideways at Dan with a frown, he wondered what he was doing here. The man worked for the Accidental Reversal Squad. Madeline wanted Obliviators. Not that he didn't like the other department, but... Dae and Katya don't like them. Get them out of your head, Killin. |
"Um Jascon is something wrong?" asked Dan seeing him look at him in a paticular way |

"Doyle Branxton!" Cassandra Rae walked past the office and then paused in the doorway. "Excuse me... Doyle? Are you in here?" |
Doyle turned away from the Department Head's desk at the sound of his name. "Yes, I am here, but I am quite busy at the moment so, if you'd just wait outside until I'm finished I will be with your shortly," he informed the vaguely familiar witch in the doorway. |
Quote:
|
"Madame Grau! How good of you to take care of Mister Branxton," Rae slid a step further into the room. "He's being quite rude to me, considering..." |
He ignored the woman in the doorway and looked to the witch she was talking to, the one speaking to him. "It was an office at Hogwarts and I do not remember anything between being at my desk in the Ministry and suddenly appearing behind a desk at Hogwarts. I do remember everything after that." |
Cassandra, who'd followed Branxton in the office, recoiled bihind him as she saw the Headmistress's head pop in. Don't let her see me, don't let her see me... she kept thinking with her eyes closed. After all Cassandra was a small girl, she just needed not to move. Why didn't she go to her first... this would have all blown over... it was an accident... why did she have to try to fix it on her own! She was going to lose her prefect status and she'd worked so hard to get that. She was ready to cry. |
"No, no--nothing at all Dan." Jason said with a weak smile as he looked over his shoulder, wondering what in blazes was happening outside. This was taking quite a long time. Maybe Mr.Braxton didn't want to come inside and he had to be persuaded to be brought it. A possibility that Jason started to think on. While deep in his thoughts, he was suddenly interrupted by Doyle stepping into the room. That didn't take very long, now did it? Something he should think about, but not at the moment. At the mention of the minister, Jason raised his brow and eyed the man. The Minister? Dear. They'd have to fix him up real quick then before the Minister sees what had happened to Doyle Braxton. Pushing his glasses up, another person other than the student (which Jason had kept in mind) and Doyle appeared by the door way. It took him a few moments to realize that it was the Headmistress that was standing there. Merlins this day was very... active. Swallowing the big lump that had appeared , he watched as Doyle tried to dismiss the Headmistress while she had been trying to talk to the man. Hearing his name, he looked up with a "Yes?". The moment an order was given out, he nodded his head and took out a small notebook and a pen that he had found in a muggle shop. It would be a lot more easier to buy these things other than write with a parchment and quill. "Si--Sir." Jason interrupted, knowing that it was somewhat rude. "If you don't mind me asking. W--Who is this wom--woman?" He asked, pointing his slightly shaking hand to Rae. |
"That Jascon is the headmisteress of Hogwarts and I beleive Doyals wife. Well Doyle I see that you don`t remmember anything so what about you little girl did you have anything to do with this" said Dan as his pen started to scribble."Oh and nice to see you Rae was it?" |
An Interdepartmental memo soars in and lands on Madeline's desk: Quote:
|
Madeline sighed and put the memo on her pile of "important" papers. She would have to respond to it later. "Miss....." her voice trailed off when she realized the student had not given her a name. Who could blame her, though? She was probably terrified. "I cannot guarantee that you will not get in trouble, but if you do not help us figure out what went wrong, I can assure you, you will only be making the situation worse for yourself," she said sternly. "Now, could you kindly tell us what happened just before the spell in question was cast?" she asked with a smile. |
Thomas walked past the Head's Office and looked in. "What kind of party are you people having in here?" he asked jokingly looking at all the people in the office. "Oh well, I brought everyone coffee. Thought you might all be thirsty," he said passing out coffee to everyone in the room. |
Quote:
Quote:
She sighed coming out from behind Doyle. "Afternoon Headmistress," she said in greeting to the woman at the door. She turned to Miss Grau and gave her a please-don't-let-her-kill-me look. After all she (Trel) had been the cause of Doyle forgetting his love for the Headmistress and their daughters. "We were in his office, and he was helping me perfect my memory charm. I was practicing my wand movement first, then when he asked me to voice the incantation... I guess... out of habit from having done it over and over, I just... well... then he asked me why I was at the ministry and... and..." Cassandra's breathing just became more labored and she started hiccupping trying to get the words out... but for some reason, she just couldn't... What if they couldn't put him back. What if they couldn't fix him... this was all her fault! Stupid memory charm! Stupid wanting to better her skills... and now... look at the mess she put herself in. |
"Goodness, Cassandra," she blinked as the girl seemed to materialize from nowhere. "I'll take her with me, Madame Grau. Issues that occur at the school must be resolved at the school." She offered her hand to the girl. "Come along, dear. It's not your fault. I think we'll leave this great lot of officials to their business." Her tone was dripping with undisguised scorn. |
"Wife?" Doyle turned in the direction of the voice who had introduced the witch as the headmistress of Hogwarts. Then, the student was speaking again and his head was spun again. "My office? Working on a memory charm? This is all highly irregular." He turned to the department head and started cleaning his glasses furiously. "Something must be done, immediately." |

"They'll fix him," she put her arm around Cassandra but stopped to pull something from around her neck. She stepped forward to drop the object on the desk in front of Doyle. "Please," she addressed Madame Grau before turning and putting her arm around Cassandra again. "Let's go." |
Cassandra looked up to the headmistress and nodded... but as she turned to leave she looked back at Branxton. "One moment Headmistress." She said to the woman beside her. She took a step forward. Not so close that Branxton could reach out to grab her, but close enough. "I... I'm really sorry professor..." she said to him. She then bit her lip and, turning back towards the open door, walked out. |
Professor... Merlin's beard but, that was most odd. He reached out and picked up the object the headmistress had left on the desk. It was a locket and when it popped open he was staring down at himself, the headmistress, and two young girls. That was just completely absurd. |
"Well, then, it looks as though we're dealing with an Obliviated memory..." Madeline said with a sigh. These were the most difficult, most diffcult indeed. "I think I'll only be needing Jason, sorry Dan," she said with a sympathic smile. "Why don't you go to your division so you don't miss out on the fun in the shopping mall?" "Anyways, Jason, I want you to try and retrieve the memories. I take it you remember the incantation? If that doesn't work we'll have to go to more extreme measures..." |
"You take it he remembers the incantations?" Doyle asked with surprise. "I apologize for being rude but, if all this is true, I would much rather have someone with more experience dealing with this issue. He could permanently damage my memories and that is only best case scenario. I could completely lose myself if he fails." No, for this he would even go to Cooper if he needed to in order to get someone fully qualified, though Cooper might purposely botch the memory recovery..... Doyle took out his handkerchief and began cleaning his glasses. |
"Well miss Guru good day and Jacson cast a sleeping spell on im he talks to much actually I`ll do it and don`t worry Doyle everything will be ok" said Dan then he muttered something with his wand out and the man fell asleep and Dan walked out. |
Quote:
Hearing Dan's voice once more, he turned to face him and blinked at what he said. Was the man serious? Letting Doyle fall asleep? That's absurd! Before Jason could object on such action, dan had already gone and done it. Quickly, Jason dropped his notebook and put his arms under the man so he wouldn't fall on the ground. "Help." he breathed, looking at Madeline. Boy was Doyle heavier than he looked like |
Doyle had no idea what the man was ranting about but, he soon fell asleep, a victim of the spell, and didn't worry about it anymore. ooc:  |
Quote:
"Alright, Jason, you know the spell, so go ahead and give it a shot," she said as she resumed her seat. "If it doesn't work, we can try it again and I'll add the spell as well, so the strength will double. And if that doesn't work, we'll have to try something else," she finished. "Whenever you're ready Jason. Doyle, I ask that you please sit still...I swear it will not hurt, and nothing can happen to you, I promise." |
Quote:
"Will do, ma'am." Jason grinned, walking a bit closer to where Doyle sat. Placing his wand between his eyes. "This won't hurt a--at all, sir." The nerd said with a smile, and with a quick wave, he muttered the spell. Waiting for a few seconds, he bent down on his knees and stared at the man. "Do you have a wife, Mr. Braxton?" Jason asked, hoping the man would answer with a yes. Usually, people do give him the correct answer. And at the moment, he hoped he'd get it again. |
Doyle came to and was about to give the woman an earful when she interrupted is train of thought and insulted him yet again. "I know enough to stay still, Ma'am," he curtly answered and cleaned his glasses before the wizard stepped up and stuck his wand in his face. "I know it won't hurt but, I can still fear for the integrity of my..." His final sentence was interrupted by the performance of the charm. His eyes went unfocused again and it took several moments before they cleared and Doyle could process what the wizard had asked. "Of course I do," he said, a bit confused.[/color] |
Quote:
Jason gave a sigh of relief once Braxton gave him an answer he wanted to here. Standing from his knees, he turned to face Madeline with a grin. "I think my job here is done. Mr. Braxton, I suggest you should lay down a little bit, since your head might be aching a bit," he told him, smiling down at the man. "And..." Jason started, "I suggest that you tell him every detail that happened to him, Miss Grau." |
Thomas walked into his Ms. Grau's office to find it empty. He sighed. I guess I can just leave a note, she's nice and I'm sure she'll understand, he thought. He quickly wrote a note and placed it on her desk before leaving the office. Quote:
|
ooc: They're still in the office, people just haven't been online to post. ;) Speaking of which, I need to get Doyle back to Hogwarts soon so, he's going to move on. "I don't have time for that. I need to speak with the Minister and get back to the school," Doyle announced, standing up, though he was a bit dizzy and out of sorts. he rested his hand on the back of the chair as he regained some of his equilibrium. |
Quote:
She gloomly turned to the ever growing pile of memo's on her desks. How had they slipped into her office? She was sure she had sealed the door shut...oh well, time to get back to work. |
"Thank you," Doyle inclined his head as much as he was able before hurrying out of the office as quickly as he could safely move. |
A memo containing details of a completed excuse lands gently on Madeline's desk: Quote:

Ivan's note circled around the office before coming to a crash landing on the desk, knocking over an ink pot. The top page was on his personal stationary, with this note jotted in semi-legible handwriting: Just got this in my office. Any idea who Molly is? Maybe this is a job for the police? Ivan Callistus Oblivator Headquarters Division Head Underneath Ivan's wrinkled note was the original missive: Quote:
|
Edith walked up to the door of the Department Head's office. She knocked, waiting patiently. She wanted to introduce herself and give Madeline the flyer about the conference. |
*gaspth* What has happened to Madeline Grau? Something fishy is going on here...her office is empty and it looks like it hasn't been used in months. There are memos everywhere, and when you knock, there is no response. The only thing that gives you a hint to what is going on is posted on the door outside. Quote:
ooc: Check the Annoucements board for more information ;) |
Dan had wanted to go and see his boss but then had a look at the notice. Somethings fishy very fishy. He went to poke his nose around for anything he could find. |
Arriving at the office, he could see that the note was still there and by the looks of it the new head of department hadn't arrived yet. Lance wanted to make this as fast as possible so as he kneel in front of the door, he slide in the piece of parchment that he had in his hand. This wasn't exactly the way he wanted this to happens but this was the only thing at the moment to do. Quote:
|
A tall, blonde man holding an overflowing box approached the office and kicked the door open a bit with his foot. My goodness, this place was a mess! Typical Maddie, leaving the place a wreck. There were memos and papers everywhere, and the place had obviously not been used in a while. Sighing and placing his box down on his new desk, the man flicked his wand out of his pocket and waved it. Instantly, the dust was gone from the shelves, and the papers and gathered themselves on the corner of the desk. Ehh, he'd sort them out later. After that, he got to work, pulling out pictures frames of various blonde people and a giant lamp as well, which he accidently dropped a second later. "Blast!" he muttered to himself. Feel free to stop in and say hello--this is your new Department Head, after all! |
Dan decided to see his new boss he wondered who he or she was he cameup to the door and knocked. |
Alicia knocked on the door and waited. She wanted to start work but didn't want to make the wrong impression. She backed away from the door and stood, waiting. It opened. "Hi, I start work here today... What am i doing first??" she asked nervously |
Dan looked at the new person "Arn`t you the new person in our department?" he asked. |
As a knock sounded at the door, the man jumped a mile in the air. Visitors already? He hadn't even unpacked his desktop calender yet! "Come in!" he called. "Well, hello," he said with a grin when two people entered, one man and one girl with very bright hair. "How can I help you two?" he asked, looking at the man, and then at the girl. |
"I'm new new girl that works here and i was wondering what i was supposed to do, and then i met this lovely young man here" She said smiling at the man standing next to her. Alicia walked into the room further and stood ther waiting for a reply. She put her nicest smile waited. |
Dan said "The names Dan Weasly I work in the Accidents & Catastrophes department I was wondering why did Madam Guru leave?" |
Alicia looked from one man to the other with a confused look on her face. "Umm... can i ask who Madam Guru is?" She looked around her, taking in the room. She felt out of place because of her brightness. She raised her hand and flicked a strand of blue out of her vision. |
"Madam Guru was our old head of department" said Dan |
Quote:
"Ah, very nice to meet you," the man said with a grin. "I'm Ben Cobblesten, Department Head. As for what you're supposed to do...Maddie didn't leave me any memos that said any division actually had a mission going on at the moment, so I guess you'll just have to take that up with your Division head," he replied, taking out a framed photo of a young brunette girl holding tightly to the arm of an internationally known American Quidditch player. "What division might that be?" he asked the young woman. Quote:
He stopped and blushed when he realized he had been rambling. It was probably just nerves of being the new Head--yes, that was probably it. "It's nice to meet you Dan, Accidents and Catastrophes, huh? I hear they just got a new Head as well." Quote:
|
"Hmm gyrifindor prefect I`m sure my son mentioned a Gryffindor Prefect over the summer nice boy heard got into a fight at a party with a cheesecake slythrin" he said "But that doesn`t matter. I`m really sorry to hear that she left maybe I could visit her some time. Yeah herd we got a knew head Becca or something and I was just getting used to Jake too bad. Nice to meet you Ben" |
Quote:
As he straightened out the neck on his new flexible desk lamp, he spoke again. "I've heard a lot of employees from all around the Ministry are quitting. I wonder what's going on?" he said aloud, even though he didn't mean to. |
Jake's head was spinning as he made his way to the new Department Head's office. Jake hadn't even met the guy, and here he was walking into his office to ask for a leave of abscene, one in which he didn't even know how long he'd be gone. "Yeah that will go over wonderfully" Jake sighed to himself. He couldn't think about that now though, he had more pressing matters on his mind as he knocked on the door. |

Jake entered the office and was thrown off to see a man sitting behind the desk. Of course he knew Madeline had left, but it hadn't set in for him until he actually saw the new face staring back at him. "Erm..." Jake began, this was definitely a strange day. Jake was never lost for words, yet here he was trying to gather his thoughts. "I see you're busy sir, but if you just have a moment. Jake Reilly sir, Division Head of the Accidental Magical Reversal Squad." Jake said as he quickly introduced himself, "I'm sorry to meet under these circumstances, but I just received an urgent interdepartment memo . . . something about a family member in grave danger." Jake said with a worried look, he could feel his heart racing and his head pounding as the endless thoughts raced through his mind about what could be happening. He did his best to surpress them. He needed to focus. "I'm sorry I can't be more specific sir, I wish I had further details myself, unfortunately because these bloody memos are monitored," Jake huffed, "I don't even have any other information. All I know is that I need to ask your permission for an indefinite leave of absence sir, at least until this is all sorted out." |

"Oh!" Jake quickly turned back, shaking his head once again. "Forgive me, I have no idea where my head is at today. I assure you this is not like me at all. Anyway sir, shall I tell the employees? Or will you be breaking the news to them?" |

Edith looked at his confusion and frowned slightly. She smiled though and shook his hand. "Nice to meet you too, Ben," she said, walking into the office and sitting in the chair opposite the desk. She crossed her legs as she sat down and got her notes from her bag. She took out the flyer from her pile of notes and handed it to Ben. "This is the flyer. I gave one to Maddie, but, you obviously didn't get given it," she sat back and looked down at her notes. ooc: Flyer!! http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/c...entionMemo.png "Okay, so the International Wizarding Conference is being held in the Ministry. So we are needing to showcase how we do things around here, pretty much. And we need to brush up on things that are going on around the world. I got specific instructions from Reagan today." she said, rummaging through her notes, seeing what is exactly appropriate. "Got all that so far, before I go onto specifics?" she asked sincerely. She didn't want to sound forward or pushy, but she just wanted this over test. |

"Okay," she said after taking a very deep breath. "Last thing. In Bulgaria, Muggles have been clearing woodlands and disturbing the centaurs living in those areas. Their land is being decreased, so naturally, they are unhappy. Not to mention that if a Muggle sees a centaur, they could end up cutting off a limb instead of a tree and that would be much more difficult to fix. We don't want it to get to that point, so we need to develop a gameplan. We need to come up with a variety of solutions to relay to the Bulgarian Minister to avoid the Muggles and appease the centaurs. Okay, I think that's it," she said, looking down at her notes, breathing heavily. "Yep, that's it. Well that's it for now. Who knows, I could have completely different instructions tomorrow," she laughed. |

"That's fine. I hope everything goes well. If you have any questions, send me a memo. Well, I've got to go. It was lovely to meet you, Ben," she smiled, standing up, shaking his hand and walking from the room. |
Ivan knocked - a tentative knock - on the Department Head's door. In his hand were the notes and files he and his staff had cobbled together. Suggestions for solutions to the Peruvian and Bulgarian problems - from an Obliviator perspective, of course. These were, in his opinion, solid. It was the other things - his files on past missions - that Ivan wasn't so sure about. He reached up to straighten his tie before remembering he'd forgotten to wear a tie. Ivan knocked again and shifted the files in arms. |

"Come in," Ben called. He was seated at his desk, reviewing the employee list for his divisions and comparing them with the records of employees that he had received. My goodness, a ton of people were leaving! |
"Hello, sir." Ivan poked his head in, checking out the scenery before the rest of his body joined him. "I have those files you wanted. And the sample memory replacements." Ivan readjusted the stack and held it out towards his new boss. That was when he noticed the large coffee-mug ring stain on the topmost file. Oops. "Ahem..." Ivan flipped the stack over and placed it on Ben's desk, nervousness causing Ivan to speak a tad more quickly than usual. "I think you'll be pleased. Ms. Wood feels certain her dress-up party idea will work in Bulgaria. And I did my research - Scarlet Fever can induce hallucinations, so I think people would believe the dragons were just fever-induced." |
