Welcome to the Atlantis FAQ thread, an information thread dedicated to clear up all the bits and bobs during the IC 2108 Ministry Plot. This thread will provide information specific to the use of this forum as well as overlap on some overarching plot details. This thread may be updated as the plot progresses and whenever that happens it will be bumped.

Who was taken captive by the merpeople?!
A total of 12 hostages were taken by the merpeople:
- Alessandro Toussaint (pundantic)
- Damian Pendragon (Helios Sunrider)
- David Truebridge (BanaBatGirl)
- Eros Sweeting (Samia)
- Gabriel Melo (Waddles)
- Gunnar McCarthy-Toussaint (emjay)
- Joana Veiga (sweetpinkpixie)
- Kingston Dolph (Charely Potter)
- Oceanus Zunther (Kolyander)
- Sam Gusey (Cassirin)
- Skye Tamerlane (SilverTiger)
- TiaMarie Mancini (PhoenixRising)
These characters were selected at random from
spinnerwheel.com in which every character posted was entered into the draw. Some were contacted after the draw because their character's actions placed them in a position where being mernapped was very plausible. Possible victims were all contacted by PM to explain the situation and asked their permission of participation.

WHY did the merpeople do this?! Wasn't the event supposed to be about making friends?!
You may recall a
Daily Prophet article some time back that touched on some tensions among the merpeople of the wizarding world. At the gala itself, the merchieftess accused all of stealing something precious from her kin. Then there is the strange behavior that several ministry personnel have been exhibiting, not only at the gala but before as well. How, if at all, are all these things connected? The bread crumbs have been dropped...see if you can follow them before they get too soggy

The Ministry gala was IC January and it's already much later in the IC year [May as of the time of this forum's launch], so have these characters been missing for months already and the Ministry only starting to act now?!
It was never the intention to keep any characters for such a prolonged period, like one year. The truth of the matter is that IC time simply moves much more quickly than OOC time (the gala opening in IC January and the RP now progressing forward in IC time), and we ask that everyone be a little flexible with their TLs during this plot. Our aim was to give everyone the time and opportunity to be able to play their characters in a meaningful way during the gala event and appropriately react to the plot, which means it is simply not possible to contain all these enriching RPing experiences within a narrow window of OOC time to remain within the IC month’s parameters. Along that same vein, we are asking no one to retcon any RPs with their characters that have taken place within the IC months that have passed since the opening of the gala thread. Characters are asked not to post in the RP areas on site until this plot is resolved to avoid conflicting timelines henceforth, and they'll only really be gone IC for a limited amount of time (several IC months) rather than an entire year...that is...assuming the merchieftess' demands are met! From the moment the remaining 'land dwellers' returned to the surface, efforts would have begun in earnest to rescue those taken. A little flexibility will help everyone enjoy these developments and the plot to its fullest.

WOW! Can I post in this subforum?
For the time being, posting is exclusive to those 12 members whose characters were taken captive. Any other posts will be deleted. In the future, there may be opportunities for other characters to post in Atlantis as the Ministry's plans for rescue come to fruition. You are welcome to view the forum and stalk in the meanwhile!

Is there someway that the captured persons' wellbeing -or lack of- are ever reported to their loved ones?
Once everyone else returned to the Ministry, the department heads (or their delegates) would have done a headcount to confirm who was missing. Based on their employee records, the head of MLE would have contacted their emergency contact. For those who were captured but not Ministry employees, the employee they attended the gala with or that employee's emergency contact would have sought out their next of kin.

My character has been captured...do they still have their wand?
Alas, wands were confiscated immediately and are being kept somewhere within Atlantis far out of reach of their owners.

Mernapping happened while everyone was all dressed to the nines and all fancy pants. Does this mean that everyone is stuck in those clothes during their capture?
Very bare essentials have been offered by the merpeople for options to change into. Clothing woven from kelp and other seaweeds would be an option, as would clothing discarded by humans into the sea or that found their way into the waters by other means. These items would have been collected by merpeople as a means of protecting the oceans. There is plenty of wiggle room for creativity here as to just what sort of attire characters have managed to put together for themselves. Or, if they wish to, they can stay fancy.
