600 Years of Diagon Alley CelebrationJoin us this summer in celebrating 600 years of Diagon Alley with a special festival hosted by the Alley's shopkeepers.
A traditional carnival game with a twist, the magical shooting booth hosted by Noltie's Botanical Novelties, Quality Quidditch Supplies and Ollivanders takes up a small section of the street, about halfway down the alley. The aim of the game is simple: using the wands provided, aim for the snitches zipping around the booth and knock them out of the air. The wands are not the regular kind, but designed to produce a knockback effect on the targets, no matter who wields them. It's not as easy as it sounds, but amazing prizes from the three host shops await, so why don't you give it a go?
Oh, and watch out for the plants on the side. They're not just there for decoration.

Sachin really didn’t mind that he had completely missed the snitch. Those things were super fast! How did Seekers even catch them? Still, he was rather enjoying himself as he usually did when the three of them were out together. He playfully scoffed. “I didn’t see you doing any better.” Sachin reached down again to tickle Radhika under the chin after she sent him into a round of laughter when she swatted at Conley. “See, Con? She knows how fast snitches can be in general.” That was his smart girl!
Sachin grinned at the shopkeeper who’d handed him another want. “Right. Thanks for the tip!’’ He eyed the vines and the snitch he was planning on targeting. Oh? The husband wanted him to go first? “Since you’re afraid of missing again…’’ There was a hint of a smirk on his face but it vanished as the look on his face was replaced by one of heavy concentration. Sachin was quite determined to win a prize today, for Radhika.
He eyed the vine, knowing that it most likely would try to block his spell. Quick thinking had him aiming for another snitch than the one he originally had in mind. And when the vine lunged at the decoy, Sachin seized the small window of opportunity to blast the first snitch. His plan worked!
A triumphant grin appeared on his handsome features and he winked at Conley. “Try beating that, Con.’’ A win meant that he would be collecting a prize, yes? “What does Radhi think?” the younger of the two men asked, stooping to be at eye level as much as possible with the toddler. “Does she want a toy broomstick?
As Sophie was walking through the festival, having just enjoyed a snack from the food stalls, she couldn't help but notice a ton of kids all crowding around one game in particular. As she approached, she saw its nap was Zap a Snitch. Okay, that sounded pretty interesting...Her dad was a huge Wimbourne Wasps fan so she had grown up going to Quidditch matches, although she'd never ridden more than a toy broom in her life. She knew her dad was hoping she'd try out for the Quidditch team as soon as she got to Hogwarts, but she had never been the athletic type.
This game didn't look that hard though. You just had to zap a few snitches with a toy wand. Anyone could do it. She stepped up to the booth and waved the attendant over.
"I'd like to try," she said. "How much does it cost to play?"

She lowered her voice. “Well, I already told him like three summers ago, so that bridge has already been burned.” She shrugged. ”Oops. Come after me, I dare them.” She stared up at the sky, as if daring the universe to do it. Nothing happened. Yeah, that was what she thought would happen. Ash, interestingly enough, kinda hated the statute of secrecy. She knew better than to reveal her identity to everyone she met, but Dustin and Alex were different. If the law said she couldn’t tell them, she’d just go ahead and break it. She wondered if she’d ever be arrested for this. She doubted it.
Anyway. This was a carnival, not a discussion about when and how she was going to be arrested. She aimed at the snitch but missed, only by a little bit. Dustin patted her on the shoulder. She shrugged. “I’ll try again after you two go.”
Lisa was both simultaneously relieved and sad that Ash didn’t want to rule the world too. Ash not wanting to rule the world meant that she didn’t have to compete with her friend-sister which was a relief. And she should focus on that. Yeah, it was good not to have to compete with someone over world domination. She nodded. “Queen’s have fun too.” Ash would still rule over something.
She nodded when Ash reminded her that there were other things Muggles could use. “That’s true...” Other items could be helpful for muggles to use if they couldn’t use wands. Lisa listened to her friend and offered her a secretive smile before chuckling. Heh. Yes. “I’ll be here with you. Wand at the ready with pink sparkly converse on.” She would always stand with her friends. With friends and love, they were unbeatable.
She offered Mr. Aguilar a smile and aimed her wand towards one of the Snitches. Narrowing her eyes to help herself focus, she then fired the wand at the snitch.

"I'm not calling them sucky. I was calling them what you called them. Suck-a-something," Sam batted at the tendrils mussing his CAREFULLY MUSSED hair. If people were going to be all sensitive, they probably shouldn't work in customer service. Like, for example, Sam would never work in a public facing job because people were terrible and annoying. He opened his mouth to protest his innocence again and then UGH plant to the face. Sam grabbed a tendril and gave it a very terse shake. "I APOLOGIZE FOR NOT KNOWING THE RIGHT THING TO CALL YOUR FRIEND, BUT MERLIN, LET OFF."
With a grumpy snort, Sam grabbed the fake wand and pointed it at one of the snitches. "I'm doing this for Re-becca, who is a very sweet and charming and lovely young woman and deserves a tiny plant in a pretty pot. So like, be a pal and knock some of those snitches my way, cool?"
Oh Merlin, this Nam child made him laugh! Nope, no breaking the law. Her comment helped him to keep his mind off some traumatising memories related to the statute of secrecy and the Neo-Alliance. Likewise, he respected Ashley's choice to keep the coupon as a trophy. It was indeed a meaningful gift that represented the survival of difficult times. And - wait, what? "Broomology for Beginners? Yes, I had the chance to write it when I worked for Nimbus Racing Broom Company. You can check it out at QQS." Huh, he had totally not expected that question, but it was a nice one.
"Good try, Miss Fox! Miss Nam? Dustin?" Camilo nodded encouragingly.

“If and when they come for me, I’ll be wearing pink socks to match.” To show that the two of them were inseparable allies!!! And also because pink was a great color.
Aguilar wrote a book. Huh. He had a life outside of Hogwarts. Who knew? Not Ash, despite the fact that he literally did not work at Hogwarts. “I’m totally gonna come and get it signed. By you. It will be annoying. Look forward to it.” She grinned. Even though she generally assumed that nobody would ever miss her, she’d make an exception for this moment so that she could hope that Aguilar would like to see her. And if he wouldn’t, she’d just be sad forever. No pressure.
While Ash And Lisa were talking, Dustin was aiming the fake wand thing. Then he cast the spell thing and... and... IT ACTUALLY HIT THE FLYING THING. HA. Anyone who said that muggles were inferior was wrong... was that it? You just... hit the flying thing? What did he do now? This victory didn’t feel as good as he thought it would. “I- I hit the flying thing. The snitch, or whatever. What do I do now that I’ve hit it?”
UM. That was her bodyguard right there! Making her so proud. And jealous. Mostly proud tho. She didn’t even want another wand, she just wanted to stare at her bodyguard looking shocked and impressed. Which she would be doing now. Thx.

She had not been known as the Snow Queen of Ilvermorny for nothing, Theodore Kinsley. Between that and the accusations that she was a veela (something that was surely based on her appearance alone), Valerie was not one associated with warm welcomes unless you were one of five people...including family. Even then the exact number was questionable. Her lukewarm customer service tone was about as close as one could hope for on any given day.
He was incorrigible, was he aware? She was still undecided as to whether or not this was a trait of his that she reluctantly enjoyed or suffered through. Unable to not gaze upon his beard for a couple of moments, her violet-grey eyes shifted upwards to engage with his. "And deny the required funding for the betterment of the Alley?" she tsk'd with the sharp clicking of her tongue against the back of her teeth. "Quite the bold assumption, Theodore. Or is it that you simply wish to take advantage of our..." She was about to say relationship, but the word caught in her throat like too much bread swallowed in one go. "...dynamic." And then she plucked his sunglasses right off the top of his head and slipped them on herself. If he asked, the shine from the snitches had been burning her eyes all day.
Still leaning against the booth towards him, Valerie found her attention drawn to a young girl [Nyx] who was waving as though she and her coworkers were familiars who were expected to come when beckoned. "Excuse me just a moment," she grumbled before moving away from Theodore and over to the wands to grab one for the new young blonde patron. Upon informing her of the prince (one that Valerie felt was a steal considering the quality of the items up for prizes), she handed over one of the wands. "You have one attempt per wand," she instructed, her eyes darting over to the QQS shopkeeper to please take over the rest of this.
That now taken care of, she resumed her position beside the handsome and rugged brunette man with her arms folded across her chest and his sunglasses still nestled on her dainty nose. "I hope, for your mother's sake, you have good aim," she taunted coolly while leaning just a bit out of the way so she could observe what was going on...and see how her plants decided to behave at his expense. Would they take it easy on him considering he was such a loyal patron to the shop...or hard out of jealousy?
And as for the other boy and his irritating girlfriend [Cassirin and lmao sweetpinkpixie], Valerie considered that situation appeased. It really was for his own good that she choose to ignore the duo the rest of their time at the booth.

Becky opened her mouth...and closed it. And then opened and closed it again. And again and again and again until she resembled a goldfish who had accidentally flung itself out of its bowl and was gasping for air. Her air was fine. She was simply wanting to point out that his delivery on the apology left much to be desired.
But still...it was...cute. Sam was very cute when he didn't want to be.
And because he was so grumpy, more so than usual, the Hufflepuff slide up to her boyfriend's side and pushed up on her tippy toes...and then pressed her palms to his shoulder so she could jump just a little and kiss his cheek.
"Good luck," she giggled softly. "And it's succulent."
He should...maybe repeat that to help commit it to memory. Just a modest retention suggestion.

Well… he would make it his mission to become the sixth member of that group of warm welcomes, already convinced that he was making progress. He playfully mimicked her tut sound. “Hey… Diagon Alley should be grateful that I’m even here right now. Or you should, at least...” He definitely had visions of him completely making her day by being here, despite her frosty tone. Her sudden closeness to steal his sunglasses got him a little excited for a moment. Was he expecting a peck on the lips instead?
AHEM.
Maybe…
“Huh.. they look better on you.” Theodore tilted his head and smiled at her. When she turned to do her job, and speak to one of the kids, Theodore stepped back onto his heel and away from the booth a bit. He couldn’t help but be annoyed that someone was getting in the way of their conversation, but he kept his cool and displayed that by running his hand through his slicked back hair.
Aaand… POW. He thought he had hit the snitch but it turns out it missed by a fraction. “Uhhh… almost.” Theodore laughed it off and returned to touching his hair, and then his beard as he got ready for the next round. “Give me another. Can’t let mother dearest down.” nor his PRIDE.

”Yarrppp….” She agreed with daddy nodding her head and patting papa’s leg with her pudgy little hand. And then daddy was tickling her and she squealed-giggled and hid her face against papa’s leg. Daddy’s laughter made her peek back out and then giggle some more. Were they laughing at papa again? She liked laughing at papa…
”Merci,” Conely told Aguliar as he got his second wand. At the mention of the plants he looked around making sure that Radhika wasn’t in danger. Everything seemed on the up and up and so he turned his attention back to Sachin. ”Ah, well, I never claimed I’d be any good at this. Not everyone can be as perfect as you.” His smile got bigger as Sachin worked a giggle out of Radhika.
”I’m a Gryffindor Sachin. There is very little I’m afraid of.” Healers and hospitals topped that list. No, something happening to his daughter and husband topped that list, followed closely behind by healers and hospitals. And then he quieted because he knew that look on Sachin’s face. It meant he was concentrating hard and he didn’t want to distract him.
Zap - It was worth goading Sachin on just to see that brilliant smile. He clapped. ”Bravo!”
Radhika clapped and squealed happily, not really understanding what papa was excited about. But she loved the energy. ”Bravvv!” she mimicked. Oh? Daddy was coming to pick her up. She let go of papa and reached for him. ”Yes!” Yes she wanted up. What a silly question daddy.
Conley chuckled. He also knew the look on their daughter’s face. She was ready to be carried. At least for, you know… maybe five minutes. ”She’s all yours now.” And with Radhika taken care of, he took aim and -
The snitch moved out of the way at the last minute. ”Looks like I’ll be cleaning the house.” Conley wasn’t mad at all. In fact he was a bit indifferent. ”I’ll even try my hand at the laundry again if you want,” Although last time he almost flooded the house with soap bubbles because he used too much detergent.

Why rule if you didn’t have fun? “Because knowledge and power are fun...” she pouted. “If you ruled the world, what would be your first decree, Ash?” She turned her gaze to Dustin. “And you Dustin?” She tired to be genuinely interested in Dustin’s answer but was distracted by Ash’s comment of wearing pink socks to be her ally. “That’s cause pink is the best colour... Lisa gaped. Dustin, the Muggle, hit the Snitch square on.

She then tapped Dustin’s forearm. “Hit another one.”

Was someone talking? It SOUNDED like someone was talking, but Ash couldn’t even care because she was just staring at Dustin admiringly for a real long time. She had so many questions. Why didn’t he tell her he was so good at aiming stuff? Where did he learn how to do that? Had he held one of those fake wands before? Was his dueling teacher giving him fake wands so he could put himself in a wizard’s shoes and learn some strategy? Were they giving him fake wands for a different reason? Was Dustin just a genius? Was it luck? Could he do it again? How many wands was he allowed to have if he hit every shot he took? Because part of this game was relying on the fact that most people weren’t very good at it. And she knew that Dustin would feel bad if he started winning everything. And she also didn’t really want a lot of the stuff here. So they probably wouldn’t be here very long if Dustin started hitting more shots.
Eventually she came to her senses. After that she just stared at Lisa. Could she believe what she was seeing??? Ash was beginning to understand what was happening... and then she just felt gleeful. It felt like Dustin was stomping all over Rosier’s grave right now and Ash was happy about it. Was thinking about revenge all the time unhealthy? Yeah, BUT IT WAS FUN. Alex was always trying to help her heal and move on and stuff. But Dustin had a lot more rage in his heart than Alex did. It seemed like it’d be the other way around, but... Ash had known the two of them for a long time. Dustin was a lot like her.
She aimed again. She missed again. So close this time though.
...how come everyone was staring at him? Hadn’t it been established that he didn’t like that? Sigh. He had to remind himself that these were both children. He bent down a bit and waved a hand in front of Ashley until she started paying more attention. “Wake up... Earth to Ashley, wake up...” There. That was better. Hey! “Lisa” was poking him. Rude. That is a child. She probably doesn’t mean to annoy you... Right. Okay.
Honestly, Dustin was quite confident that he could hit another one. But the pressure was kinda messing him up so he took a while with the next wand because his hand was shaking too hard... but he hit it again, and then he breathed a sigh of relief. It didn’t matter that he hadn’t hit the snitch as neatly. It didn’t matter that he had almost missed it entirely. At least he didn’t embarrass himself in front of a bunch of wizards who’d probably look down down on him just for being a muggle. “That’s enough for today.”
Ash raised both her eyebrows. Father may have been a pretty awful dad, but he had clearly gotten her some pretty great bodyguards. “Well. Somebody is good at this.” Two in a row? Really? “Are you sure you aren’t secretly a wizard in disguise?” It was a mostly genuine question. Ash had been in several situations where she and another witch were pretending to be muggles to each other. But... this didn’t feel like one of them.
”Yes.”
Huh. “If Alex was here he’d be impressed.”
”Course he would be impressed. That was impressive and I probably looked super cool.”

Well… he would make it his mission to become the sixth member of that group of warm welcomes, already convinced that he was making progress. He playfully mimicked her tut sound. “Hey… Diagon Alley should be grateful that I’m even here right now. Or you should, at least...” He definitely had visions of him completely making her day by being here, despite her frosty tone. Her sudden closeness to steal his sunglasses got him a little excited for a moment. Was he expecting a peck on the lips instead?
AHEM.

“Huh.. they look better on you.” Theodore tilted his head and smiled at her. When she turned to do her job, and speak to one of the kids, Theodore stepped back onto his heel and away from the booth a bit. He couldn’t help but be annoyed that someone was getting in the way of their conversation, but he kept his cool and displayed that by running his hand through his slicked back hair.
Aaand… POW. He thought he had hit the snitch but it turns out it missed by a fraction. “Uhhh… almost.” Theodore laughed it off and returned to touching his hair, and then his beard as he got ready for the next round. “Give me another. Can’t let mother dearest down.” nor his PRIDE.
She will neither confirm nor deny these convictions of his nor the current status of his progress. Or lack there of. Though he certainly was presumptuous to assume she would be doing that in this setting. "You have an enormous head," she retorted with a subtle and coy smirk. Was she talking about his proclamation as to who should be grateful for his presence? Or was it in reference to the size of his sunglasses in juxtaposition to her own slender features? The answer was, in actuality, both, but she did dip the sunglasses down to peer over them playfully and indicatively at him before going about her job.
Was she please he had come? Yes. Would she tell him this? He should be able to infer that himself. Would she reveal to him that she had been looking for him in the crowd earlier? No, absolutely not.
Back over to his side of the booth, arms folded across her chest and finger lightly tapping her elbow, she watched as her vines took it easy on him and did not get too much in the way of his attempt - a result she was not entirely sure how to feel about that. "Certainly could not have you becoming a disappointment on my watch..." Another multilayered statement that he could relish in unpacking and over analyzing. Valerie watched him fuss with his beard for a moment, distracted, and then handed him another want to take his second shot.
