Melanie's hand went up to brush her hair out of her face out of habit before feeling Landon's beanie on her head and her heart sinking even more. She heard him take another step closer and closed her eyes. He was going to yell at her now, wasn't he? He was going to call her stupid which was okay because Melanie understood that could be quite stupid at times.

But instead, he just asked her what she said. And she tried to repeat herself but no words came out of her open mouth. Again, her voice failed her when she needed it most. Hearing the word 'look' made Melanie look up though. So she did. She looked up and saw Landon one step closer than he was before but it didn't make Melanie feel any better.

"You liked her though," she muttered. It was more to herself than anything. Landon had liked Emilie. That much had been obvious. He might not have cheated but he liked her and Melanie didn't want to compete. She didn't want to compete back then and she didn't want to now. They Gryffindor felt a lump in throat and it wouldn't go away as Landon kept talking. "You could be my boyfriend." There. She said it. It was quiet but she had said it. And right after she said it she focused her attention back on her shoes.
