Default Transfiguration Lesson III

As you enter the Transfiguration classroom you notice that, this week, it is in it's usual order. All the desks and chairs are in place, in their neat little rows. At the back of the room, instead of the dummies of the last lesson, Professor Magnus' desk is back, standing proud and cluttered with paper as usual. On top of that desk are two glass tanks.

Professor Magnus herself is stood to the side of her desk, rummaging around in the mess looking for something, and mumbling under her breath. "I'm sure I had the board eraser here earlier. I put it on there, I know I did." Seems that she's lost something. But the thing you are most likely to notice is what is slithering around her free hand. An albino corn snake. Meandering it's way through her fingers, it occasionally stopped to taste the air near her face, before going back around her hand.

CLASS HAS STARTED.

Helpful links:
Two new spells (Amplus Vermis Verto & Succurro Pedes) & first question.

Second question about cross-species transformations.

PRACTICE! Wand movements and incantations only - no snakes yet (Please make sure you only do the one for your age group!)

Come and get your snake!

OOC: I'm opening now so you can all have your characters enter and take a seat. The lesson won't actually begin until Sunday 13th @ approx 2pm GMT. Oh yeah, and *cough* the eraser is NOT in the room.

Oh, but maybe pairs weren't so bad after all, as long as the other one was holding the snake? Even if her partner was a puff.... Tori supposed she could survive.

"All right, all right," she agreed to the girl begrudgingly. "I guess that could workkk........"

Still. Snakes. Puffs. Ewwwwwwww.
Alyssa smiled at Victoria. She did find it ironical that a Slytherin would be afraid of snakes. 'But then again, Slytherins are still humans like the rest of us, even though they sometimes don't want to admit they are,"Alyssa chuckled to herself. "Cool! Just call out when it's time to pick up your snake, Victoria and I'll be right over,"Alyssa told Victoria before going back to practicing the wand movements and the incantation.

This time she decided to try using her wand. Unholstering it from her leg holster, she moved her wand straight down starting from top to bottom and then said the incantation,"Suc-cur-ro PED-es". She was glad that nothing happened when she did that. 'Now here's hoping that when it's time to do the spell, something does happen and the snake does change into a walking stick like it is supposed to.'Alyssa thought to herself.

Jasper...

Yeaa...

Eyeing first the snake in the professor's hand then the ones in the tank, Josh wondered if there was any other reddish ones in the tank just like Jasper because it would have been fun to show off the Slytherins in the class that he had a Gryffindor coloured snake.

Hehe...whatever.

This was the time to do whatever the professor was telling them to do anyway and since he was a big seventh year, he knew he was supposed to try practicing the spell that turned snakes into worms. Well...yes, indeed. This one could be a VERY useful one, Magnus was right. It'd come very handy if you were living near a forest just like Josh did. So, yeah, he was up to this.

Then, unhostering his wand he pointed it no where in particular before carefully performing the exact wand movement Professor Magnus had shown to the class. ''Amp-lus Verm-is Verto''

Hmmm...wait. He had a question. So before trying it a second time, he lovered his wand. ''Professor, would this spell work on a Basilisk? I mean if it does then it means we can deal with such a dangerous creature in an easier way. Just avoiding looking at it and casting this spell. Would the worm form be dangerous to stare too? I mean, do the magical properties change as well?''

Kurumi had been deep in thought about the concept of cross-species transfigurations and wondering if they were somehow related to crossbreeding. She had done a fair bit of reading on the subject, mostly because of its relation to her History of Magic final project, but had become rather interested in the field herself. Sure, there were plenty of dangers when it came to crossbreeding. The most obvious were those associated with the different genetics of each species and this certainly seemed as though it would apply to transfiguration. After all, the genetic make up of a rabbit was severely different than that of a baby beluga whale. Not that those two species would be able to breed to begin with, but you might need to transfigure one into the other for whatever reason. Maybe...

In crossbreeding, it is possible that genes could go all terrible and the result could be very harmful and produce terrible defects if the genes do not match up. While magic worked differently, Kurumi supposed that lack of concentration or not understanding the "construction" of the two animals being transfigured could result in something similar. Oh Merlin...she was going to blow up an animal...

The shock of this thought carried the young Gryffindor through the conversation and the next thing she knew, class had moved on and they were discussing wand movements and practicing.

MEEP!!

When Professor Magnus mentioned 4th years and above, Kurumi set her quill down and began watching as the woman demonstrated the spell. Left to right, from the bottom to the top, in a diagonal line, then straight down.... Kurumi copied her movements a few times with her own wand in hand until she felt comfortable with the movement and was more fluid with her movements.

Now setting her wand down, Kurumi repeated the spell in a sort of chant. "Amp-lus Verm-is Verto....Amp-lus Verm-is Verto....Amp-lus Verm-is Verto"

Just as Kurumi was about to combine them together, she heard Josh ask a question of Professor Magnus about Basilisks. "I always thought that Basilisks shared similar traits with dragons in that their hide was too strong to be penetrated by magic. It simply reflects all spells cast on it," Kurumi said, cocking her head to the side. Gummy worms though...could be effected, right? Wait, probably not since they were talking about animal transfigurations. Flobberworms were certainly included for that though, she assumed.

Now...back to practicing the wand movement.

First, she finds out that Professor Magnus' snake was a named Jasper.
Then their teacher explains the Latin words to them which she did not have any idea what was all about. Okay, so it meant turning legless creatures into worms and the other one would turn them into walking sticks.

Now that was rather crucial. Them going to transfigure a snakes structure needed caution and rather spell mastery. It could just go haywire and there might be a tendency that the snake would turn into something unimaginable for a snake to turn into. They would need lots of practice if they would like to succeed, otherwise they could deform those fraaagile creatures.

STARE.

They were going to play work with snakes? Really? Like the one their Professor was holding? There were still lots of those cute creatures? Oh, goody!

And that made her more excited for the lesson.. With that, she listened carefully as Professor Magnus had given them the instructions. She deliberately glued the Professor's rules inside her head. Too bad though, they would only be dealing with making the snake walking sticks. Oh well..

Beatrice then started jotting notes on her parchment, writing down the Incantations and Wand Movements that they had so far. After doing so, she grabbed her wand from its wand holster and started practicing the wand movements while saying the incantation. "Succur..Suc-curu.." Another try. "Pedes.." She cocked her head on the side and started figuring out how to correctly say the incantation. Then, with a flick of wand from north to south, "Suc-cur-ro PED-es!"

"Better." She said to herself and continued on the task.

"You are all correct, of course. Changing the anatomy and structure of one animal, into that of a completely different one, requires much more focus, skill and concentration. The slightest lapse and you could end up killing it, or splinching it in some very bad way - like Ashley said - a head for a leg." She gave the Slytherin a grin and carried on.

"Turning it into an inanimate object still requires you to be focussed as usual, but you are having to worry less about getting the molecular structure of another animal correct for it to work." With a flourish of her wand, Isabelle produced a little twig like stand that she carefully wound Jasper around.
---------------------------------------------
"I would like you all to practice the wand movement and incantations before coming to collect your snake. It will be easier, believe me," she chuckled, taking a quick glance at the slithering beasties. "I shall demonstrate them without the aid of Jasper for now, and then draw them on the board for you all to have a visual reference."

Picking up the chalk she drew some lines next to the incantations to signal which way they needed to put their wands.

SPOILER!!: WAND MOVEMENTS ON THE BOARD

"As you can see they are fairly simple - but PLEASE just stick to the one I have assigned your age group." Issy looked around at all of them. She knew that a couple of them had tried to do the older students spell in the last lesson, and truthfully she hadn't been happy. "Now, you do the wand movement and say the incantation afterwards. Those of you in 4th year and above copy me - left to right, from the bottom to the top, in a diagonal line, then straight down. Amp-lus Verm-is Verto. Make sure you say it just like that, or you could eventually have problems when we move on." She wanted to make sure they all got it right.

"Those of you that are 3rd year and younger have the easiest wand movement," Isabelle grinned. Although really they were both quite simple. "It's a straight line from north to south. And once more, you say the spell after doing the movement - Suc-cur-ro PED-es."

"Everyone go ahead and practice that for now, I'll move on to letting you handle the snakes when I feel you are all comfortable with it."

OOC: I'm going to bed soon, so for now just practice into thin air, with no snakes. PLEASE DO NOT DO ANYTHING YOU HAVE NOT BEEN ASKED TO DO. ONLY PRACTICE THE SPELL FOR YOUR CHARACTERS AGE GROUP. Thank you! And no excessive chatter, if you please, Issy won't be happy about that.

Elise nodded, still rather terrified at the SNAKE part of the lesson.

Right... Okay. Practice into thin air. She could do that.

"Suc-cur-ro PED-ehs." she said, wand still in her pocket. "Suc-cur-ro PED-es."

She'd gotten it! "Succuro PEDes." Now, for the wand movement.

North to south.

Pulling her wand out of her pocket, she traced a straight line from north to south, making sure not to think of the incantation. Non-verbal was just as dangerous as verbal.

Issy carried on walking around while Jasper continued to coil himself around her arm, trying to get his head back up her sleeve. "When I was younger, and had just left school, I went on a trip around the world. And let me tell you, this spell came in very handy when I found a very large snake in my sleeping bag once. Removing a worm is so much easier, and less dangerous."

And as for the second spell, that was for the younger ones among them. Although how pleased they would be at having to do something different remained to be seen. "Succurro Pedes transforms an animal into a walking stick," she said simply, smiling at everyone, and checking to see if they were making notes. "And because we are working with snakes today - making something long and slim into a stick is much easier."

Isabelle walked to the front, and to her desk. Using her free hand she pulled the tanks closer to the front so hopefully all could see them. "In these tanks are the snakes you shall be working with today. I've kept all years in the same lesson for the simple reason that were will be using the same animal. But the 1st to 3rd years will be doing the walking sticks, and the 4th to 7th will be transforming them into worms."

Turning her back on the tanks, Issy looked around at the kids. "Can anyone tell me why it's harder to do cross-species transformations than it is turning an animal into an object?"
"Maybe because the animal we want to transform to another animal had different structure and anatomy?" she answered

Time to practice the spell! Raven practice the incantation first.
"Suc-cur-ro PED-es"
"Suc-cur-ro PED-es"
"Suc-cur-ro PED-es"

Then the wand movement. A straight line from north to south. North to south, north to south....

She couldn't wait to transform the snake became a walking stick! It will be fun!! That's why she really loves transfiguration.

Harvey was shocked, We HAVE to actually handle those THINGS!!! there is no way I am holding one of those, but WAIT we NEED the points. Harvey thought as he took a deep breath Well since we need the points I guess I can tolerate those..... snakes, BUT only because we need the points He looked at the wand movement and incantation he was supposed to be doing.
He moved the wand from north to south, that was the easiest part. Then he spoke the incantation "Suc-cur-ro PED-es!" he said slowly trying to get the incantation right. Incantation again "Suc-cur-ro PED-es!" he kept saying the incantation over and over and over again until he was sure that he was saying it right. But even then he carried on the practice "Suc-cur-ro PED-es!"

Ronnie had a massive fear of snakes. She hated them, and she real wished she was i the younger group so they could at least become a walking stick. On second thought, Ronnie seriously thought about ditching the class, but she was already here. She wished the professors would post what the class was going to be about. But on second thought, more students would probally skip then.

Ronnie had no idea about the first question, but she at least could answer the second. "It's harder to transform one animal to another because their anatomy's are different. Expect, there can't be that much differenece between a snake and a worm can there? Expect snakes have fangs"

Ronnie answered her question and then moved on to do the wand movement. Diagonally up and then striaghty down....no that wasn't right. Jeez Ronnie pull yourself together.

Diagonally up and then Diagonally down. What was the spell again? "Ampule Vermin." Ronnie said...oh jeez that was no where near right. Okay..try again. She did the wand movements one more time and then Amp-lus Verm" Wheew. Okay, much better. Ronnie practiced a few more times.

Salima took out her wand as she stood up, deciding wich one she would do, she thought the last would be eaisest for beginners; she put her wand in the air and practiced the wand movment waving her wand from north to south then once she was sure she had marstered that she mutterd the incantaion without her wand "Suc-cur-ro PED-es". "Suc-cur-ro PED-es"."Suc-cur-ro PED-es".

She would never tell her friend this, but she was glad that thing wasn't around anymore.

Copying down both spells in her notebook, even though she was only supposed to practice the one, Destiny pulled out her wand and rolled up her sleeves. It was time to practice. Although, it was kind of difficult to concentrate. All those snakes up in the tanks. She was already trying to decide which one she wanted.

Shaking her head and averting her eyes, she moved her wand in the same way the Professor had. Left to right, from the bottom to the top, in a diagonal line, then straight down. "Amp-lus Verm-is Verto. Amp-lus Verm-is Verto." Well, that seemed pretty easy. Except for the needing to concentrate part. Couldn't Professor Magnus cover up the snakes? They were distracting!!

"Professor!" she called out, raising her hand while still making the movements with her wand. "What happens if we use this spell on a worm? Or..what happens if we use this spell on a flobberworm? Or a glow worm. Will they turn into regular worms?"
Isabelle had been walking around the class, occasionally shooting a glance over at Jasper to make sure he was still happily winding his way around the fake branch. But mainly checking up on how the kids were doing.

No sooner had she reached Destiny's desk, than it seemed the girl was bombarding her with several questions at once. "Well, for a start, the spell changes larger legless things into a regular worm, so it would have no effect on an animal that already is one of those," Issy smiled. "And yes, that does include Flobberworms and Glow worms."

But yeah, there was the one GIANT snag with it. Wasn't going to work on a Basilisk. Hardly anything did - that was a well known fact. Just as Isabelle was about to answer Josh's query, Kurumi piped up and said pretty much what the professor was going to say. That girl would make a good teacher in a few years time.

"As Kurumi said, spells cannot get through a Basilisks skin. It is the right sort of animal for this spell to be used on - anatomy wise - but it's far too powerfully built, and dangerous to get near, to even attempt it. With all Transfiguration spells it does help to be able to see your target, as that aids the concentration needed. But as you're aware, it isn't advised with that sort of snake." Isabelle gave them both a warm grin before going back to the front of the room.
--------------------------------------------------

Picking up Jasper from his waiting spot, she let most of his short body hang down in front of her, while she kept a firm grip on his head. It was easier to show them how things worked this way, they could hold their snake as they wished, it made no difference to the end result.

"Now, the counterspell for both of these spells are quite simple indeed - Verto for the worm transformations, and Reverto for the walking stick. Those of you not familiar with those spells," although even the first years had probably done them at some point, "can ask myself or one of the older students to reverse their spell for them."

Holding Jasper out from her body, Isabelle cleared her throat and gave all the kids a quick look to make sure they were all paying attention. "I'll just demonstrate exactly how the worm spell should go, then the walking stick, so you all know what a successful transformation looks like....Then you can come and fetch your own snake. Now, please pay attention!"

Flicking her wand left to right, top to bottom in a diagonal line, then straight down, Issy aimed her wand at Jasper and said the incantation - "Amp-lus Verm-is Verto!" Almost immediately the snake began to shrink, and after a few seconds, she was holding a brown wiggly worm in her hand. Much smaller than the animal she started with. "Verto!" The look of concentration on her face was clear. Issy did not want to get it wrong and have to explain to her husband why his snake was not being returned to him.

"Now the stick!" she grinned, giving Jasper a little while to get used to being a snake again. But not for long. "Suc-cur-ro PED-es!" This time, instead of shrinking, the snake lengthened a little and stiffened out - it's skin turning into a smooth metallic colour. His head curved around to form a handle, no longer having the facial features it began with. Once the transformation was complete, Issy knocked it against the floor and smiled. "No longer a snake." With another flick of her wand, the stick began to change once more, back into good old Jasper.

Winding the snake around her wrist, Isabelle checked him over to make sure he was all right. Perfect.

"Okay, as you can see, when performed with the correct amount of intent, focus and concentration, the spells are quite simple. Waver for a second and you will have problems. Only attempt the spell on your snake when you feel comfortable enough to do so. For now though, please come and fetch yourself a corn snake," Issy moved to the side to allow them room to get to the tanks. "Acquaint yourselves with every detail of that snake, as I wish them to be returned in the same state you took them in. Then you may begin. Up you come."

OOC: As ever, please follow the IC instructions to the letter. Do anything Isabelle didn't ask you to and she won't be happy. Have fun!

A ship in harbor is safe — but that is not what ships are built for.

They're going to perform that on a snake? Turning a snake into a stick? Poor snake!

Victoria walked up to the front of the classroom with a stir of pity. She looked at the slithering, flexible bodies of the snakes, stirring in their cages. Victoria took a a regular, gray colored snake and went back to her seat. She had to admitt, that patterned snakes creeps her out a bit.

Victoria doesn't mind Transfiguration much, she just doesn't like performing spells on animals.

Ravenclaw Snakes? Snakes?! Snaaaaaaakes?!?! COOL!

Nate could have floated over to the snakes, he didn't know. All he could remember was hearing Professor Magnus invite them to retrieve a snake before he was standing next to pit, carefully searching for an attractive scale pattern. "Ah, here we are..." he said as he heaved out a mid-sized, brown and grey patterned snake.

His snake was happily hissing and wrapping itself loosely around Nate's hands and forearms. He turned and walked a short distance away from the bin, leaving room for the others to get their snakes. He pulled out his wand and practiced the motion and the incantation once more. Then, he held the snake out at arm's length. "You know, since I can't think of anything better to call you, I think I'll call you Salazar. It seems fitting. After all, you are a snake..."

Nate doubted the snake could understand him, but it seemed to smile a little as he said that. "Salazar it is, then. Sorry for this..." Then he swished his wand in a straight vertical line, top to bottom, and said, "Succuro pedes!" Salazar the snake became rigid in Nate's hand and straightened out, extending to its full four and a half foot length and becoming decorated wood, with a crisscrossing grain that matched the crisscross pattern of scales on the snake's back. "Cool!" Nate said as he inspected the walking stick he had just created. Finally, the pride of being able to perform the spell they were learning had returned to Nate after his failure in the Patronus lesson for DADA. Ugh.

Nate began tapping the stick lightly on the ground to see if it was, in fact, wood. He still somehow felt that Salazar could feel everything Nate did to this walking stick.

"Professor, any possible chance we can hold onto these snakes?" Nate asked honestly. He was somehow growing fond of 'little' Salazar. Holding the stick (which was more of a small branch) out in front of him, Nate pointed his wand carefully and said, "Reverto!"

In his palm the walking stick grew warmer, and eventually Nate could feel the heartbeat of the snake again. As he watched Salazar's features reappear from the wood, Nate saw what he interpreted as a look of discomfort on the snake's face. "Look, I said I was sorry before I did it..." he said. Salazar shook his head. "You're pretty sassy for a reptile..." he mumbled, putting the legless creature around his shoulders and looking towards Professor Magnus. "Seriously, is there any possibility whatsoever?"

Violet was still grinning to herself--snakes! This was going to be a great lesson, much better than pink flowers and things. She had been practising the (pretty easy, in her opinion) wand movement for the Succurro Pedes spell for a while to get it just right, and was now ready to meet her snake. She selected a small, leaf-green garden snake of some kind from a corner of the box, and returned to her place.

She gently stroked the top of its head with her thumb for a few minutes, looking down at the snake's half-closed, sleepy looking eyes. Then she carefully placed it in front of her, got her wand ready, made the north-to-south movement, and said, " Succurro Pedes!". Even though she had seen the professor doing it before, it still rather amazed her to see her new friend stiffen into a lovely, bright-green walking stick (just Violet's size, too! She was glad she had gotten one of the smaller ones, now).

She picked it up and held it in her hand, trying it from this angle and that, wondering if it would look good with a feather boa and a monocle?

Minerva went up the the desk and reached into the tank to pick up her snake. Smiling with excitement. Once she got her snake she looked at Professor Magnus "Umm Professor, William is very nervous about the snake would it be ok if I get it out of the tank for him so he isn't reaching down with all the other snakes?" Minerva tried to ask this without the other students hearing she didn't want to embarrassed William.

Ashley was so excited about this next part, though he willed himself to calm down before getting up to go and gather one of the snakes. How awesome was that, though? He thought about looking into getting one for himself to keep, but he realized he probably wouldn't take very good care of it. Well, he could try, though. The possibility of such a thing was pushed to the back of his mind to think about after class, since right now he had to carefully take one of the snakes out, and return to his desk so that he could get to work. Before he would perform the spell, however, he decided to go for another couple of rounds of practice.

Snakes...? Really? She wanted them all to touch snakes. Selina was entirely invested in the whole lesson from the Latin to spell work until she said the work snakes. She had a hard enough time dealing with Slytherin snakes let alone real snakes. There had to be something about Selina as a person that just did not mesh with snakes. They were slimy and gross and quite honestly the most useless animal in the world.

But alas, class was class and she really liked Transfiguration so she would do as instructed. She went to the front of the room and grabbed one snake that seemed to be slipping and sliding all over her hands. Why in Merlin all mighty did it have to move?

Finally when she returned to her seat she got a better look at the animal. It looked... bored. Well that was upsetting. At least she was hoping that the snake would look fearsome.

She lifted it in the air to examine the snake a little better. All the snake did was look down at her with a vacant expression. Did she get a broken one or something? Then the snake snuggled into her hand. Aww... it was kind of cute.

"Oh yeah, I'm naming you Eugene."

Kourtney warily eyed the container that held the snakes. She wasn't the biggest fan of such creatures, but the class was another chance to earn house points, so....she was just going to have to do it. She edged her way to the end of the line waiting to retrieve a snake, and when it was her turn, she chose a snake that seemed...well, one that didn't seem too wiggly.

Picking it up gingerly, she stared at it with a slight look of distaste, before turning and walked back to her seat. As she reached it, the snake slid across her hand and towards her wrist. Merlin's Beard.

Just hurry up and cast the spell so that this..thing could become less dangerous looking.

She transferred the snake to one hand, and repeated the incantation in her head several more times. Suc-cur-ro PED-es. Suc-cur-ro PED-es. Suc-cur-ro PED-es. And the wand movement was a north to south downward movement.

While she repeated the words, the snake continued to twist in her hand. It actually kind of...tickled. With a giggle, she watched the snake a while longer.

"Alright, snake....gotta turn you into a walking stick now. Hopefully this won't be too uncomfortable..."

She held her wand in her other hand, and concentrated hard. "Suc-cur-ro PED-es!" She cast the spell as demonstrated by the professor, complete with the required wand movement.

Meh.

Now why didn't it work? The snake didn't even stiffen a bit. Then again, it didn't do anything, so she supposed that was good in a way.

Maybe it was wiggling too much? She laid her wand down for a moment, and held the snake as the professor had, behind the head and allowing the body to dangle.

Again. "Suc-cur-ro PED-es!" North to sound in a downward direction.

The snake stopped its wiggling at once and its body went rigid, its skin turning a solid color, and lengthening just slightly. Whoa.

Gideon gave up his practicing when Professor Magnus spoke up trying to grab everyones attention back to her so she could show them a few more things before they worked on the spell in earnest. The counterspell seemed simple enough, though he was a little nervous about the main spell for he didn't want to harm the animal at all. Though perhaps he was being foolish seeing as it wasn't like he was horrible in transfiguration.

Relax and be calm and do the spell and no animal will be hurt.

Moving to the front of the classroom, Gideon figured to at least retrieve a snake as instructed. He reached into the one tank and gingerly picked one of the reptiles up from within and lifted it out. It responded by curling around his hand much like the professor's own. "Don't get too comfy..." he mused quietly to the creature as he headed back to his seat.

Hearing Selina giving her snake a name, he came up beside her amused. "Why thank you kind human..." he said with his voice disguised and hopefully quiet enough that only she heard and no one else called him out. His free hand doing his best to keep his own charge from causing any trouble on his arm, gradually getting used to it so he'd be more calm whn he eventualy tried out the spell.

Kurumi jumped a bit when Professor Magnus sort of appeared out of no where but not really since she had been in the front of the classroom the entire time to address her conversation with Josh about basilisks. They had been a common topic of conversation between the older Gryffindor and herself, but this was the first time it was in terms of Transfiguration. She supposed it was a nice change of pace.

She nodded in towards the professor when she confirmed and expanded a bit on what she had said. Kurumi may be called a dictionary eater, but the only topic she would really believe that in was Care of Magical Creatures which, well, was related to Josh's question. Basilisks were a very large magical creature of course.

Kurumi set her wand down and listened as Professor Magnus continued, doing a small demonstration before letting them all go ahead and try it themselves. Kurumi...was FREAKING out and all other sound in the room had vanished. Not to mention that everything went a bit blurry as well, everything minus the tank of SUPERADORABLE!snakes that is. Trembling like a leaf on the Whomping Willow, she made her way over towards the snakes, jumping to the side here and there as others passed with a new slithery friend in their hands. She peered over and looked at all the SUPERADORABLE!snakes alreading bowing her head in apology and whimpering to herself as she reached down. She would let one come to her...and if none did then that meant she wouldn't do the assignment...that certainly would keep all snakes safe from any potential melting, right?

When nothing came slithering up to her, Kurumi felt like breathing again and she was just about to remove her hand and ask Professor Magnus if she would just watch when....SOMETHING wrapped around her finger. It had better be a string....

Nope, certainly NOT a string.

"H-H-Hello there," she squeaked, looking at the SUPERADORABLE!snake wrapped around her finger. Why oh why did the snake have to choose her? Did it not know that she had a terrible history of melting things in Transfiguration? Forget that her wand was made for the subject, there had YET to be a spell in class where she hadn't nearly melted something beyond repair. Not to mention that the first lesson of the term she had...erm...cheated and used her own abilities to create the illusion that she had been using the spell correctly.

Kurumi returned to her seat, the little snake wrapped around her finger licking the air, and sat down. Her wand was held in her other hand, but she felt as though she were going to be sick. First things first, she needed to learn all about her snake, its scale's design, its behaviors, anything that could help her from NOT melting it into a puddle of corn snake goo - would that make it look like corn soup? Merlin she didn't want to think about that...

Flick your wand left to right, top to bottom in a diagonal line, then straight down and say the incantation "Amp-lus Verm-is Verto!"

Kurumi repeated the mantra in her head over and over again all the while looking at the SUPERADORABLE!snake.

Merlin help her...she wanted to cry...

Time to practice the spell with snake!! Raven picked up a corn snake colored green and silver, such a truly slytherin. Then she tried to Transform the snake into a walking stick and she practice the incantation in her mind while practiced the wand movement. North to south... north to south...

Suc-cur-ro PED-es
Suc-cur-ro PED-es
Suc-cur-ro PED-es

Then she tried it for the first time.

"Suc-cur-ro PED-es!"

WHOAAA

The green-silver corn snake was transformed become a walking stick.

Wicked!! she smirked.

Alyssa listened as Professor Magnus showed them how to change the snake into a worm and then into a walking stick. She paid more attention on how the Professor had changed Jasper into a walking stick because that was what the younger students, like her, were supposed to be doing in this lesson. She made note of the counterspell to change the walking stick back into a snake. "REVERTO", she repeated it over and over again, until she was comfortable with the incantation.

Once the Professor gave them the 'okay' for them to collect their snake, Alyssa walked up and waited until the student in front of her had picked up theirs before she walked up to the glass tank and looked inside. 'Actually when you think about it, they do look kinda cute. For the time being, I'm going to call you Mr. Bean,' Alyssa thought to herself. She reached down and picked up a snake using one hand to hold its head while using the other to cradle its body. Pulling it out of the tank, Alyssa brought it back to her desk where Tori was waiting.

Whaaaaaaaateverrrrrrrr. And ewwww. Pairs. Ewwwwwwwwwwwww.

Oh, but maybe pairs weren't so bad after all, as long as the other one was holding the snake? Even if her partner was a puff.... Tori supposed she could survive.

"All right, all right," she agreed to the girl begrudgingly. "I guess that could workkk........"

Still. Snakes. Puffs. Ewwwwwwww.

"See Tori, it isn't so scary after all." Alyssa told Tori showing the snake. "Mr. Bean meet Tori."

Alyssa first studied Mr. Bean. His tongue flicking in and out and she held his head. The way his body felt. From first looks his body looked wet and cold, but actually it felt warm to touch. Alyssa studied every inch of his body, every scale was kind of unique.

"Would it be okay if I went first?" she asked Tori. "I could practice changing him into a walking stick and then back into a snake and then when I'm done, I'll hold him for you, while you do the same." Alyssa told Tori.

"Okay, time to turn you into a walking snake, Mr. Bean. Don't worry I won't hurt you."Alyssa whispered to the snake. Picking up the snake by its head, she let its body hang straight down. First, she repeated the spell in her mind, 'Suc-cur-ro PED-es!' and then the reverting spell 'REVERTO'.

Once she was confident of both incantations and the wand movement, she took out her wand and pointed it at the snake. She moved her wand in a straight downward motion from top down to bottom, and then said the incantation,"Suc-cur-ro PED-es". Instantly, the snake stiffened out and changed. The head she was holding in her hand was no longer a head but the curved handle of a walking stick and its body, the stick itself. "I did it!!" Alyssa almost yelled out. She almost twirled the stick in her fingers before remembering that this really was a snake and not a walking stick and that the Professor would be upset with her for mistreating it.

"Time to change you back," Alyssa whispered to the walking stick even though she knew that it couldn't hear her. Holding the walking stick by its curved handle, Alyssa took out her wand, pointed it at the stick and said "REVERTO". Immediately, she was looking into the eyes of the snake, its forked tongue flicking in and out. As Alyssa looked at it, the snake seemed to wink one of its eyes at her, like it was congratulating her. "Thanks." she whispered back.

She let the snake coil and wrap itself around her arm before turning to Tori. "Okay, Tori, would you like to take your turn now? I'll hold it for you. Just do me a favor and don't point the wand at me,"Alyssa smiled to the Slytherin girl while holding out the snake by the head, a little away from her body...just in case.

"Verto!" Just call out when it's time to pick up your snake, Victoria and I'll be right over,"Alyssa told Victoria before going back to practicing the wand movements and the incantation.

"Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh............." Yeah, yeah it was definitely okay if Alyssa went first. Tori was SO not going to touch... to touch Mr. Beanface if she had to.

EWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEE so disgusting. SO DISGUSTING. WHY WAS ALYSSA OKAY WITH TOUCHING THIS THING??! WHY? ALL OF THEM? EWW!

The redhead scooted as far back from her desk as possible and avoided touching the snake. She shook her head and pointed the wand at the snake, totally forgetting the spell the instant she looked at it.

"Uhhhhhhhh.................?"
