SLEEP, MOTHER, SLEEP

Luna stared at her lifeless mother, staring at her blonde, slightly burnt hair; staring at the marks on her arms and face; staring at her eyes--staring at those silvery, blue eyes. There were no more burns present on her flawless face.

Daddy said she had to leave the world the same way she entered; beautiful.

He joined her.

What was he doing? Luna was perplexed, taking a step to the side when Daddy took out his hand and then leaned forward over her mother.

"Daddy...?"

He closed those silvery, blue eyes.

“There,” he wept, “now she could be sleeping.”

THEY'RE CALLED THESTRALS

“Don’t you see them?” Luna curiously asked the others as her head jerked to the other direction in the sky, pointing towards the magnificent, flying creatures.

Dozens of eyes were glancing up to the empty sky.

“They have the most beautiful wings—almost bat-like even—although their bodies' almost like a malnourished horse!—Daddy’s told me about them,” she went on, “they’re called thes—“

“What. A. Loon.”

“…strals.”

“Nothing there!” They sneered and started mocking her, “Blind, Loony?”

The bright red-haired girl beside her immediately rolled her eyes at the crowd, sighing, and dragged her away. “Come on, Luna.”
